View Full Version : NFL Combine Feb 18th-24th
Tahoe 02-16-2009, 01:45 PM I think those dates are correct. Its this week anyway.
Here (http://www.nfldraftdog.com/NFL_Scouting_Combine/2009_nfl_combine_list.htm)are the participants.
NFL Network will be covering it.
Wilfredo Ledezma 02-17-2009, 11:28 AM Brian Hoyer, Michigan State
Nowhere to go but up...
Wilfredo Ledezma 02-17-2009, 11:28 AM Morgan Trent, Michigan
Ditto.
DrRay11 02-17-2009, 12:22 PM Can't wait.
Zekyl 02-17-2009, 12:44 PM Someone actually rated Hoyer as the #5 QB in this draft.
They then went on to say that it just shows how thin this draft is at the position.
Wilfredo Ledezma 02-17-2009, 12:50 PM I think that McShay was the one who had Hoyer #5...
No love for Graham Harrell.
WTFchris 02-17-2009, 01:01 PM There would be if he had "pro" size. If Harrell was 6'3" instead of 6' he'd be a lot higher on the charts.
BTW, I heard today on the radio that some scouts are saying Stafford has the best arm they've ever seen in college. Take it for what it's worth.
DrRay11 02-17-2009, 01:02 PM Here's to hoping someone really, really stands out at the combine so we can trade out of the number 1 spot.
Wilfredo Ledezma 02-17-2009, 01:02 PM Yeah, I've been hearing alot more 'Stafford-praise' lately.
I suppose if I knew we were going to draft a QB, then I would take Stafford. But there is NOBODY else I would consider.
Mark Sanchez-- I wouldn't even waste my time with him.
WTFchris 02-17-2009, 01:04 PM Just remember some times good talent around the QB makes them look good (Sanchez?) and sometimes guys don't really show it until the pros (Stafford?).
It's possible. Look at Brady. he was just an OK QB in college.
Timone 02-17-2009, 01:04 PM MARK KNOWS HE'S GOING AGAINST THE GRAIN. THE STATISTICS DO NOT BACK UP HIS DECISION.
Glenn 02-17-2009, 01:06 PM MARK KNOWS HE'S GOING AGAINST THE GRAIN. THE STATISTICS DO NOT BACK UP HIS DECISION.
+4 MoTowns
DrRay11 02-19-2009, 03:17 PM So far on measuring day we have 3 of the big OT's:
Jason Smith: 6'5" 309
Andre Smith: 6'4" 332
Michael Oher: 6'4" 309
http://www.steelersdepot.com/2009combine/2009-offensive-linemen-nfl-combine-results.html
DrRay11 02-19-2009, 05:08 PM I've been hearing Andre Smith's arm length is 36 inches, which is better than most were expecting.
Glenn 02-20-2009, 06:17 AM How's his peenie?
DrRay11 02-20-2009, 03:34 PM Andre Smith, after measuring OK, decides not to work out (NFL Network). Bonehead move on his part, his stock has already been dropping.
Tahoe 02-20-2009, 03:40 PM I'm not liking that guy much at all.
Also, NFL Networks covering of the combine has sucked this year, imo. They used to just put cameras in and you could hear names called, so you knew who it was, etc.
I could be wrong on that, but I doubt it.
Zekyl 02-20-2009, 03:43 PM Smith said he didn't want to work out at the combine because he wants to get his numbers down. When reporters asked him why he didn't have them down before the combine (aka WHY AREN'T YOU IN FUCKING SHAPE FOR THE COMBINE?! THIS IS A JOB INTERVIEW YOU IDIOT!), he said it was because he just signed an agent 2 weeks ago. Now, I could be wrong here, but do you have to have an agent to stay in shape? I don't like this guy's attitude at all. I really liked what I read about Jason Smith and how he's handling everything though. I hope he has a solid combine, could push the Lions to take him. Make he and Backus battle it out for LT, loser moves to G and still gets to start.
Tahoe 02-20-2009, 03:45 PM Smith is all about the money. He screwed up by talking to an agent before the bowl game too. He was ineligable for his bowl game, iirc, cuz he sees nothing but dollar signs... <--which would be somewhat hard to do.
Zekyl 02-20-2009, 03:50 PM They never outright said it was because of talking to an agent. That's just the rumor. But if you're looking for character in your players and looking for the guy that is going to work his ass off to live up to his contract, not the one that is going to take the money and get lazy until its his contract year, then he seems like someone to stay away from. Its too bad because he looked to have a ton of talen before all these red flags popped up.
Tahoe 02-20-2009, 03:52 PM Sounds like a Raider type of guy
DrRay11 02-20-2009, 04:10 PM re: the NFL network coverage ... they haven't really started any of the drills yet, that starts tomorrow (mostly just measurements & shit right now). This is all just the pre-hype, I think. At least I think.
Tahoe 02-21-2009, 11:46 AM ^ You are correct on the coverage.
I've looked a lil more of Freeman and I still don't see the hitch in Freeman. BUT, the clips I saw were from really far away. Looking forward to see him at the combine.
The reason Stafford didn't throw is there is there is nothing to gain by throwing. He's #1.
re: Lions...the best thing would be for Freeman or Sanchez(who is going to throw) to really have a great combine. The Lions could wine and dine a couple of QBs giving Stafford some competition. It might make him take less in contract.
Crabtree is out 10 weeks stress fracture, foot
Zekyl 02-21-2009, 12:20 PM Terrible timing for Crabtree. That's going to cost him some cash.
DrRay11 02-21-2009, 01:10 PM ^^For sure. I was pretty shocked to hear that this morning.
Tahoe 02-23-2009, 04:15 PM Cushing is having a good combine...damn it. I was hoping he'd be there at 20 as an option.
Tahoe 02-23-2009, 04:39 PM Rey Maualuga pulled up today too. Hammy or something
Tahoe 02-23-2009, 05:15 PM Terrance Taylor UofM had the most reps, 37, at 225. NFL Network was talking bout players might not have bought into the program but this guy bought into Barwis...or something like that.
Zekyl 02-23-2009, 07:09 PM :BARWIS:
Maybe Maualuga pulling up lame will drop him a bit. I doubt it, but it could help.
WTFchris 02-23-2009, 07:50 PM I heard Curry smoked his LB competition BTW.
Tahoe 02-23-2009, 07:59 PM He did and the other LB that everyone liked was Micheal Johnson.
DrRay11 02-23-2009, 08:08 PM Michael Johnson is a DE.
Tahoe 02-23-2009, 08:09 PM Worked out with the LB today on some drills
DrRay11 02-23-2009, 08:13 PM Yes, a couple of groups were a combo of two positions.
Michael Johnson will probably end up one of if not the first pure DE taken in the draft. The rest of the guys (Everette Brown, Orakpo) may be used as DE/OLB hybrids in a 3-4 scheme.
Tahoe 02-23-2009, 08:17 PM Yea, I saw that this morning.
Tahoe 02-24-2009, 02:20 PM QB Freeman moves ahead of Sanchez post combine competition at cfn, etc.
Tahoe 02-24-2009, 02:40 PM Sean Smith CB Utes...might be a good pick at 33. The other corners are undersized at 5'8" or something. Smith at 6'3" might be a safe pick if the Lions go QB, OT, LB or something with 1a and b.
He could easily move to safety.
Zekyl 02-24-2009, 03:22 PM QB Freeman moves ahead of Sanchez post combine competition at cfn, etc.
Starting to sound like we won't nab him at #20. What are people's thoughts on Sanchez at that spot if he's still there and Freeman is gone?
Tahoe 02-24-2009, 03:25 PM I don't like Sanchez in the first..or even at 33.
Zekyl 02-24-2009, 03:27 PM Lack of playing time in college? That's what makes me nervous.
Hermy 02-24-2009, 03:28 PM Lack of playing time in college? That's what makes me nervous.
I don't care for his lack of accuracy, or frankly anything to set him apart from Joe QB.
WTFchris 02-24-2009, 05:34 PM Lack of playing time in college? That's what makes me nervous.
Cassel was a career backup wasn't he? Granted he was undrafted for that reason, but experience doesn't equate to production always. I have concerns about Sanchez too, but he may be the best bet in that senario.
Tahoe 02-24-2009, 06:54 PM Wow the CBs this year are kind of sucking.
Bottom of the 1st round and were talking about 2 5'8" guys.
They were slow today as a group. No one really stood out.
Maybe CB can be addressed in FA or something.
Tahoe 03-01-2009, 02:16 PM Eugene Monroe might have had some bad medical examines at the combine on his bum knee. Plenty of time to check it out before the draft that seems like a hundred years away.
Zekyl 03-02-2009, 02:46 PM Per Scouts
When Jason Smith stepped to the podium during his press conference on the first day players spoke to the media, he said, “I’m the best OT in the draft, and I don’t think I have any flaws.” Those were big words for a man to live up to, but in the end he was proven correct and has emerged as the top OT in the draft. The word is that Smith was so impressive in his interviews with teams that the No. 1 pick overall has more value than it did before the start of the Combine, and some teams are interested in trading up for the right to select him. Smith’s athleticism is what initially jumps out at you and being a former tight end helps him tremendously. The 6-foot-5, 309-pound Smith showed his strength by posting 33 reps; displayed his athleticism by running an above average 5.22 in the 40 and did well in positional drills. Don’t be surprised if Smith ends up being the No. 1 pick in the draft.
WTFchris 03-02-2009, 03:07 PM Well if Smith is getting rave reviews it could be great news for the Lions with Monroe (bad exams Tahoe mentioned) and Andre Smith sliding.
Teams will know the Rams want a new LT. Anyone in the 5-10 range wanting a premier LT might try and jump the Rams.

I read that teams will float bad stuff about a guy so he will fall, but if its bull, then I'd expect Monroe's camp to squash that shit quickly. Hasnt happened yet.
Or we take Curry at 1 and if, its a big if on Monroe, Monroe or A Smith were to fall that far.
Tahoe 03-12-2009, 11:59 AM Andre Smiths workout was not great yesterday...that sucks.
Tahoe 03-12-2009, 12:01 PM oopsy poo
WTFchris 03-12-2009, 02:58 PM I wonder if the Rams swap picks with the Lions thinking they'll take Smith there. less money for Lions, plus they can grab an extra pick.
Tahoe 03-12-2009, 03:09 PM You mean Rams want OT J Smith? The problem is that Monroe is solid too. Unless they're really sold that Smith is worth another pick over Monroe, prolly not.
Those knee reports on Monroe had to be bogus
Zekyl 03-12-2009, 06:39 PM I typed up a big 3 paragraph response to this and accidentally hit my hand on the touchpad and went back a page. I don't feel like typing it all again so I'll summarize.
It wouldn't take much to get me to switch with the Rams. #1 for #3 and a 3rd? Rams take Jason Smith, Chiefs probably take Aaron Curry if Smith is gone (MAYBE Monroe, if they really want a tackle and feel good about him), we have the choice of Stafford if we really want him, Monroe or Curry (whichever the Chiefs don't take), Orakpo or Raji (not #1 pick worthy, but if we like them enough we could make a much bigger case for them at #3).
Edit: I was thinking the Rams were picking 3. I'd take their 1st and even a 4th or 5th to make the switch. Hell, I would even consider a straight swap of them just for money saving reasons if they were actually willing to do it.
DrRay11 03-12-2009, 07:47 PM The Rams will not trade up from no. 2, I will almost guarantee that. Unless we paid them or something.
