View Full Version : Michael Phelps
Tahoe 02-11-2009, 02:43 PM Hypothetical...If you were CEO of Kelloggs would you have dropped Phelps for his DUI? For using MJ? Niether or both?
Just the MJ use cuz its his 2nd time he broke the law?
Hermy 02-11-2009, 02:47 PM Seems the drop made huge news, I wouldn't have wanted that. I would have waited at the very least.
Wizzle 02-11-2009, 03:28 PM Hit the wrong one......I wouldn't drop him for either. The DUI was before the Olympics and that was obviously forgotten during all of the hype and this incident will be too.
Timone 02-11-2009, 03:29 PM You're still not over this Phelps thing, Tahoe?
Tahoe 02-11-2009, 03:38 PM I guess I'm a boring person cuz I think its interesting. Kellogg, marketing type peeps think they know what the rest of the peeps feel about these things.
I have no idea how the general public feels about it...and I'm thinking the WTF public is a sampling of the general public. I'm not to sure about you though.
Timone 02-11-2009, 03:41 PM Who cares about what I think?
Tahoe 02-11-2009, 03:42 PM oh come on, you know :we: do
Wizzle 02-11-2009, 03:43 PM and I'm thinking the WTF public is a sampling of the general public.
now that is a scary thought
Tahoe 02-11-2009, 03:45 PM ^ lol I was thinking about that when I wrote it
Timone 02-11-2009, 03:58 PM Holy shit. Speaking of Phelps, did you guys hear he was smoking weed at a party?
You are paying a lot of money for your brand to be helped by a celebrity endorsement. The last thing you want is some wacko fringe group using you as the poster child for some kind of moral corruption or for the pop culture to label you as some kind of "breakfast of pot-heads everywhere". Pulling sponsorship isn't about looking down on the action. It's about looking out for your brand. I would imagine they give a shit what Phelps actually does. Just what he gets caught for and thus what they might get labeled as.
Tahoe 02-11-2009, 06:01 PM ^ So why'd they sign him when he had a DUI? I don't know...something smells on this one, imo.
Did anyone remember the DUI charge before he got busted again?
I didn't. Maybe others did.
Tahoe 02-11-2009, 06:08 PM To be honest I didn't either, but Kelloggs should have.
But I guess that might be a good point, the public didn't remember it so they thought they'd attempt to cash in on MPs success.

These are pretty much my thoughts exactly.

lol, good stuff
your link isn't working UxKa, but I found it on youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHg5SJYRHA0)
Works for me. Your puter must just suck.
Vinny 02-11-2009, 09:50 PM Worked fine here too.
RegicideGreg 02-11-2009, 11:12 PM Damn I voted the wrong way. I'm stupid and misinterpreted the question. No droppings should've taken place.
MoTown 02-12-2009, 09:34 AM By the way, the last think he said was exactly what I've been saying all along: Who sells a picture of Michael Phelps doing a bong hit to a tabloid? That thought would never even cross my mind.
And why is this story such a big deal? I bet 90% of our country has smoked weed at least once. Nearly all of our athletes do it. What's so different about Phelps having fun at a party?
Nothing. Except that people pay gobs of money to put him in front of their stuff and so it's stupid to criticize those people for finding one of the other 5000 famous people to stand in front of their stuff when he does something dumb.
I would have sold the picture. Why shouldn't I?
Timone 02-12-2009, 09:40 AM AND HE'S A ROLE MODEL!!!!!!!!!!!
MoTown 02-12-2009, 09:48 AM I would have sold the picture. Why shouldn't I?
I guess I'm old school - I think that a picture of a guy doing a bong hit doesn't warrant 3 weeks of media coverage so I would have never even thought of selling the picture. I would have shown my friends my picture of our hero smoking weed, but I never would have called up the Freep.
So it's the person who sold the picture who's to blame for the media coverage? Not the media, the public in general, or the dude who was smoking the sticky?
MoTown 02-12-2009, 10:56 AM FYI - I'm not Glenn. You don't have to put words in my mouth to start a fight.
I never once said that it's just his or her fault. I simply mentioned my distaste for that person as well. If you would like the full list of who's at fault for boring me with a couple weeks of media coverage, here it is:
Michael Phelps: Not for smoking the weed, but for doing it in a room full of people with cameras.
The Public: For caring about this incident enough that it's still on TV.
Busybodies: The housewives and out of work people that don't have enough of a life to care about themselves so they focus on what's wrong with other people.
Every News Channel: For reporting something so pointless and continuing it. I also heard Michael Phelps utter a curse word at some point - we should crucify him for that.
Kelloggs: For dropping Phelps for something extremely minor.
USC: For allowing parties like that. College kids shouldn't be allowed to have fun.
The US Government: Because pot shouldn't be illegal.
The Taliban: Terrorists always win.
Fool: For arguing with MoTown.
I've probably forgot someone... I'll get back to it later...
Glenn 02-12-2009, 11:04 AM FYI - I'm not Glenn.
And you're no Gl'enn, either.
Gl'enn has swagger.
Carry on...
Tahoe 02-12-2009, 12:09 PM Nothing. Except that people pay gobs of money to put him in front of their stuff and so it's stupid to criticize those people for finding one of the other 5000 famous people to stand in front of their stuff when he does something dumb.
I would have sold the picture. Why shouldn't I?
But they hired him with a DUI.
So ... ?
I would add to that but Motown gets mad when I finish people's incomplete statments.
MoTown 02-12-2009, 02:54 PM Nah - MoTown appreciates when you add jibberish to people's statements... just not MoTown's.
Vinny 02-12-2009, 03:37 PM Whether or not those people are complete morons, the fact that thousands and thousands of potential customers could consider switching Cereals because of the bong rip makes it a no-brainer that Kellogs should drop him.
That doesn't mean that Kellogs necessarily thinks Phelps did anything wrong or to be honest even gives two shits what he did. But if someone is going to put their business at risk like that, they certainly shouldn't pay him more money to do so.
Vinny 08-01-2009, 12:54 PM Phelps just kicked that Serbian cocksucker's ass.
