View Full Version : MSU Hockey...
MoTown 01-24-2009, 10:25 PM are a bunch of punks.
I just watched the Michigan/MSU hockey game. I'll preface the incident with this: the game was chippy. There were a lot of penalties and MSU was definitely annoyed that they haven't beaten Michigan in 5 tries this season.
But with just under a minute left in the game, a Michigan player had a good open ice hit against an MSU player and knocked him to the ground. Another MSU player following the play wound up and hit the Michigan player in the back of the head (without the UofM player looking) a la Bertuzzi to Steve Moore and knocked him to the ground. Then the MSU player that was hit on the original play got up and wound up and swung his stick at the Michigan player that was on the ground, hitting him right in the ribs. The refs kicked the one kid out of the game and gave a 5 minute major to the other kid.
What a bunch of pussy kids. As soon as I can find the play I will youtube it for you. If the MSU program has any credibility, these kids will be kicked off the team. At least suspended for the remainder of the year. What those kids did was criminal.
Did anyone else see this?
MoTown 01-24-2009, 10:25 PM BTW:
:gutsy:
Timone 01-24-2009, 10:27 PM I did not catch it. I caught a few seconds of the game, when UM was leading 5-3 in the 3rd with a little over 5 minutes left. Bunch of punks is right.
I assure you though that these MSU players do NOT represent the entire team or the university. Now, if it was UM players that did it, that'd be a whole other story...
MoTown 01-24-2009, 10:30 PM 5-3 was the final. The kids were "showing their frustration" by being cowards on the ice.
Timone 01-24-2009, 10:32 PM They actually showed highlights of the game on the BTN, which I'm watching right now. Whether or not they showed the incident I don't know... I wasn't paying attention.
Timone 01-24-2009, 10:46 PM Okay, so they didn't even show it.
Either way, I say we kill them.
bukdow: I say we let them go!
Zip Goshboots 01-25-2009, 12:57 AM The worst part of the whole thing? The UM kid is Jason Kamfer (SP?!) the same who was body slammed by Mike Modano and suffered a skull fracture as a result.
bukdow 01-25-2009, 01:07 PM Boo hoo. Go wash your panty hose.
Vinny 01-25-2009, 01:19 PM HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA HAHAHA POST OF THE YEAR BUKDOW!! GOOD SHIT. Damn, only Knockout is supposed to give beatdowns like this homeboy.

Is it fair to say you'd be calling for their heads if they were a couple of UM players?
MoTown 01-25-2009, 01:37 PM Boo hoo. Go wash your panty hose.
Somehow I knew this was coming. If it were U of M players, you would be calling for the death sentence.

Prayers for Steve Kampfer tonight

The Michigan-Michigan State rivalry, regardless of the sport is always heated. Unfortunately, at Yost on Saturday night, MSU's Andrew Conboy and Corey Tropp took that to a disgusting new level.
Late in Michigan's 5-3 win - a victory that wrapped up a 5-0 season sweep of the Spartans - Conboy and Tropp responded to a clean neutral-zone hit by Steve Kampfer by attacking him. Conboy skated up behind Kampfer and landed a cheap shot punch, knocking Kampfer (who just recently returned from serious neck and head injuries) to the ice. Tropp then added to the situation by apparently slashing at the laid-out Michigan defenseman, who then stayed down for several minutes while attended to by Michigan's trainer.
Kampfer eventually left the ice with the help of a pair of teammates, but he's not out of the woods yet, according to the Ann Arbor News' Kevin Ryan:
After the game, Kampfer was seen being transported via gurney to an ambulance with a brace around his neck. No further details on Kampfer were available. Berenson refused to comment, saying he didn't see the play unfold.
So to sum up, bukky: You're right. What a bunch of whiners.
Timone 01-25-2009, 01:53 PM What makes people want to beat the shit out of Kampfer all the time?
The UofM hit is a great open ice hit. The MSU hit is a cheap shot from behind and away from the action. Not to mention the other piece of shit for MSU who comes in after that and still slashes the guy after he's already down on the ice. Let's just say that if they had tried that in any other league (for their age) but college, they would be defending themselves the entire rest of the game. They deserve any suspensions they get (if they get any).
Vinny 01-25-2009, 02:09 PM The youtube comments are great.

WOW!.....
Wonder if any Michigan folks will mention Chris Fox pulverizing a guy in a summer conditioning league circa.1997 in the same fashion....probably not fuckin hypocrites!

b-diddy 01-25-2009, 02:26 PM why would bukkkdow get upset. these kids werent some 'uncle tom' hooligans. they didnt even have kneck tattoos (probably). they were just wholesome white kids playing a game within the context of the sport.

His name is Milano, not Modano, and "who cares" bukky was pretty quick to go with the story when THAT happened, but wants nothing to do with this one.

bukdow 01-25-2009, 06:02 PM Certainly not any worse than the shit Jack Johnson used to pull for the piss and blue-ball icers a few years back. Besides, considering the kid is a UM athlete he was probably running his mouth and the MSU players had enough. I hope he learns to shut his trap in the future.
Timone 01-25-2009, 07:13 PM I don't know, buk. If you look like that (see my avatar), you'd be pretty stupid to mouth off to anyone. And as you know, UM bootlicks would desperately like you to believe that stupid people don't go to UM.

The kid looks like the quintessential white douchebag. Couple his fuckass, honkey genetics with the fact he plays hockey at UM and you`ve got one white boy with a hell of a sense of entitlement.

It cracks me up that all Sparties are comparing the Johnson hit from a couple years ago where he charged to a hit where a guy winds up with his stick to a player that's already on the ground. You're absolutely right, same exact scenario.

FWIW buk, I think you stand alone on this one:
Kampfer speaks out after slashing incident
By GEORGE SIPPLE • FREE PRESS SPORTS WRITER • January 25, 2009
Michigan junior defenseman Steve Kampfer said the ugly incident he was involved in at the end of Saturday’s 5-3 Central Collegiate Hockey Association victory over Michigan State at Yost Arena was uncalled for, and he’s glad he wasn’t seriously injured.
In the final minute, Michigan State freshman forward Andrew Conboy came up behind Kampfer, grabbed him by the neck and slammed him to the ice. With Kampfer defenseless on the ice, Michigan State sophomore forward Corey Tropp — who had been knocked down by a clean open-ice hit moments earlier by Kampfer — slashed him in the neck area with his stick. Tropp received a double disqualification, and Conboy received two roughing penalties.
Michigan State coach Rick Comley said after the game that Tropp would miss two games and Conboy “will probably stay home” next weekend when the Spartans visit Lake Superior State.
Kampfer was playing his 10th game of the season after suffering a fractured neck and cracked skull in an on-campus incident in October.
Felony assault charges were filed against U-M football player Mike Milano, who was kicked off the team after the incident.
“I have a strained neck right now,” Kampfer said in a phone interview with the Free Press on Sunday. “I had no relapse of what happened earlier. Hopefully, I’ll be back this weekend.”
Kampfer said he didn’t know if Tropp intentionally tried to hit him in the neck.
“It’s not like people didn’t know I had that injury,” Kampfer said. “If that was his true intention, that’s uncalled for. I don’t know what (Tropp) was thinking at the time. Obviously, I’m disappointed.”
Kampfer watched the replays Sunday.
“It’s something that shouldn’t have happened,” Kampfer said. “It just shows the lack of sense that people have. I don’t think two-handing someone over the neck when someone has had previous injuries is right or necessary.”
Asked if he thought the players should miss more time, Kampfer said: “That’s not up for me to decide. I’m biased because it happened to me. It’s up to (CCHA commissioner) Tom Anastos and the refs to decide.”
Timone 01-26-2009, 01:43 PM A little tame compared to what Mo was asking for. And what buk would ask for if they were UM players.
MoTown 01-26-2009, 03:00 PM That's not official, but if it was, it'd be bullshit. The guy that hit Kampfer in the back of the head might deserve a one or two game suspension, but Tropp needs to be kicked of the team. Swinging your stick as a weapon should never be tolerated.
And don't give me that bullshit "caught in the moment" defense. I don't care how caught up in the moment you were, you wouldn't lose your head like that unless you're a total scumbag. I've played basketball at many levels and have never once taken a swing at a player. I've played baseball at many levels and have never used my bat on a player that's talking shit. That kid deserves to be kicked out of hockey... at least for a while.

Jethro34 01-26-2009, 07:33 PM Comley suspends Tropp, Conboy for remainder of season
By From staff reports
The State News
Published: January 26, 2009
MSU hockey head coach Rick Comley has suspended sophomore forward Corey Tropp and freshman forward Andrew Conboy from the team for the remainder of the season following an on-ice incident during Saturday’s game at Michigan.
U-M junior defenseman Steve Kampfer was hospitalized overnight following the game in Ann Arbor after Conboy hit him from behind and sent to the ice with less than a minute remaining as MSU trailed 5-3. Tropp then slashed Kampfer near his head and neck as he lay on the ground before a referee intervened.
Kampfer has since been released from the hospital.
“What happened near the end of the game this weekend is not the way in which we want our hockey program represented,” Comley said in a prepared statement released Monday evening. “We cannot condone their actions. We felt that we had to send a strong message that this behavior will not be tolerated.”
“This was an incident that was an emotional, split-second action, for which these players are being punished. I do not want this to be portrayed that this was anything pre-meditated, or that any single player was “targeted.” Their reaction, while inappropriate, was a split-second response that I know that they wish they could have back.”
Also in the statement, MSU Athletics Director Mark Hollis said the university feels strongly that student-athletes “should have respect for the game, respect for their opponent, and a commitment to fair play.”
“After conversations over the last two days with Rick Comley and CCHA Commissioner Tom Anastos and his staff, I fully support coach’s decision,” Hollis said. “I agree with Coach Comley that these were spontaneous, emotional actions carried out during a highly-competitive game, but their actions were completely inappropriate and reflect poorly on our program.”
Anastos released a separate statement saying he supported the actions taken by the MSU coaching staff.
“We feel that the measures taken by Michigan State are appropriate and consistent with the parameters of the sanctions that were being contemplated by the league,” Anastos said.
Kampfer was hospitalized overnight for precautionary reasons and passed a standard series of head and neck tests before being released Sunday morning, according to U-M’s athletic media relations department. Kampfer’s history of head injuries — he suffered a fractured skull in October last year after he was allegedly attacked by a U-M football player — led doctors to keep him overnight.
Kampfer has a sore neck but might be healthy enough to play this weekend against Notre Dame, according to the university. He will need to pass concussion tests to be cleared to play.
After the game Saturday, Comley called Conboy and Tropp’s actions “cheap and uncalled for.”
U-M police also are investigating a report that a 48-year-old Jackson man entered the MSU locker room after the game and confronted an MSU player.
Police conducted interviews at the scene and are actively conducting an investigation, said U-M Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Diane Brown.

bukdow 01-26-2009, 08:57 PM Fine. The fact remains that everyone got their panties in a bunch over a douchebag with a strained neck. Sorry, I have no real sympathy for the kid. Maybe he should learn to keep his mouth shut and play badmitton. Wait, the shuttlecock might strain his neck too.
Timone 01-26-2009, 09:00 PM Speaking of badminton buk, how's MSU's women's team doing this season?
We can speculate all we want about why the kid got his ass kicked the first time around, but if you aks me THIS incident occurred not because he was running his mouth, but because the Sparty he walloped and his teammate were butthurt. Simple as that.

Could be, but the fact remains, everyone made a big deal about him being carried out on a stretcher and the fact he was in the hospital, when in the end (Sunday) he had a strained neck. Looks like a bunch of fawning over a kid who seems to end up on the wrong side of "shut the fuck up" quite a bit.

My point has nothing to do with the kid's injury. He could have swung and missed for all I care. Fact remains he still wound up with his stick and hit a kid on the ground. What kind of fuckup does that? I don't care if he wears green and white, maize and blue or scarlet and gray - you're an asshole if you do that.
And good for the MSU coach. It's classy that he suspended them both for the season. I still think Conboy's hit was bad, but not enough to get him kicked off the team. Tropp is a different story.
Jethro34 01-27-2009, 07:03 AM The deal is that a foul is a foul, a cheap shot is a cheap shot, and so on.
The end result of a play in terms of severity of injury should never be a factor.
In hoops, is it only a flagrant foul if it injures a player? No, it's flagrant if it could injure or seemed to have intent.
This isn't the court of law where the difference between attempted murder and murder is the end result.
Fact is the kid was extremely lucky he only hurt his neck. The reality of the play is that it could have done much worse. In sports people are lucky and unlucky with results of plays all the time. The same wreck that killed Dale Earnhardt is one that many drivers walk away from with only minor soreness. It's a freak thing.
But when there is less than a minute to go and your high and mighty team is getting beaten for the 5th time in the season against their hated rival, that shot followed by the stick action on a down player is some punk ass shit.
The coach is trying to redeem the program. Your attitude, on the other hand, is embarrassing to State. Your attitude is like "Hey, if he doesn't get a life threatening injury we should kick his ass as much as we want, seeing as he's kicking ours in the scorebook. It's only fair. While we're at it, we should throw rocks at baby's heads. As long as it doesn't kill them, it will be funny."
Your game is weak and it's clear you can understand the frustrated feeling of being an athletic participant who is getting worked and needing to show some aggression to make you feel better.

it couldnt be that the msu 'student-athlete' is as imaginary as the easter bunny and your heterosexuality?
you are HILARIOUS when your not trying to be (then your pretty dull and annoying). if this were a black michigan football player you would be talking about how the house negro was being sent back to the farm, etc etc.
i do, however, like you condoning taking the easy way out and quiting. great philosophy on life. not enough people say 'you know what? it is hard. go ahead and quit. i understand.'
nice job buk. if you werent on the sexual predator's list, you would make a great role model for the kids.
