Strictly a financial move to avoid him being a 'Super-Two' player. They're not going to bring him up unless he signs a long-term deal like Longoria did last year.

Phillies announcer Harry Kalas hospitalized
19 minutes ago

WASHINGTON (AP)—Philadelphia Phillies broadcaster Harry Kalas was taken to a hospital Monday after passing out in the broadcast booth before Monday’s game against the Washington Nationals, team president David Montgomery said.

“I think it’s serious,” Montgomery said. “Our thoughts and prayers are obviously with Harry.”

The 73-year-old Kalas, known for his distinctive “Outta here!” call on home runs, was found by the Phillies director of broadcasting at about 12:30 p.m., Montgomery said.

Kalas joined the Phillies in 1971. Before that, he was an original member of the Houston Astros’ broadcast team from 1965-70.

In 2002, he received the Baseball Hall of Fame’s Ford C. Frick Award for his contributions to the game.

0-0, 3 games played (1 start), 7 IP, 5 ER, 4 walks, 2 K's and a 6.43 ERA

opposing hitters are hitting .321 against him and he has a 1.86 WHIP!!

He needs to be in the minors.

Company apologizes for jersey error
Associated Press
WASHINGTON -- Majestic Athletic spelled things out quite clearly Tuesday: It was the uniform company's fault that Washington Nationals Adam Dunn and Ryan Zimmerman wore jerseys reading "Natinals" during a game last week.

Dunn and Zimmerman donned the shirts that were missing an "o" for the first three innings of Washington's 3-2 loss to the Florida Marlins on Friday night. They eventually changed into jerseys with the team nickname spelled correctly.

"All of us at Majestic Athletic want to apologize to both the Washington Nationals and Major League Baseball for accidentally omitting the 'o' in two Nationals jerseys," Majestic Athletic president Jim Pisani said in a statement distributed at Nationals Park on Tuesday.

"We take 100 percent responsibility for this event and we regret any embarrassment for the Nationals organization, players and fans," the statement continued.

Company does NOT apologizes for helmet error
Associated Press
WASHINGTON -- Majestic Athletic spelled things out quite clearly Tuesday: It was absolutely the uniform company's fault that the Detroit Lions practice squad wore helmets showing a small kitten as the logo, rather than the recently released updated Lions logo.

And they thought it was damn funny.

The players donned helmets with a printed "jumping kitty" where the traditional logo should be in a 13-3 loss to themselves on Friday afternoon. They eventually changed into helmets with the proper team logo.

"All of us at Majestic Athletic want to publicly say Haaaah haaah!!," Majestic Athletic president Jim Pisani said in a statement distributed at a parking lot across the street from Ford Field on Tuesday.

JESUS-GATE (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/blog/big_league_stew/post/Brian-Wilson-isn-t-very-happy-with-Casey-Blake-r?urn=mlb,162567)

-from the article -

Personally, I'm willing to bet that Blake wouldn't have done what he did if he knew of the move's significance, especially the part about the tribute to Wilson's dad. I mean, haven't we all laughed at the guy in the distance who trips over the curb, only to feel monumentally bad once we draw near and find out he's blind and handicapped?

I'm thinking that's what happened here.

First, being blind is a handicap so that's redundant. Second, he just compared praising your dead father and ... well your resurrected father to being "blind and handicapped" and tripping over a curb.

I don't know who 'Duk is, but I don't imagine he'll be winning any Pulitzers anytime soon.

I see the Phillies, who were already in need of a starter, may likely lose Myers for the season now as well.

He couldn't come through yesterday against my Rockies yesterday. Went to the game and roasted in the sun. Good game though (5-4 nail biter). Also laughed at Delmon Young botching a simple base hit and giving an extra base (runner scored next play). The 2B also lost a ball in the sun and the batter got a double off that.

This year, that could hurt us but long term, that huge contract should handicap them from doing a lot of things...

The move sucks for Scott Podsednik, the guy has been the most clutch hitter all season for the Sox and now he's either going to be a role player or a platoon.

The thing that makes this a no-brainer for the Sox is they have quite a bit of money coming off the books after this year (Dye, Thome) so they have the flexibility to let those 2 walk and add Rios.

I don't think Rios is worth $12M a year, but he is going to a more hitter friendly ball park than the SkyDome.

I don't think he does much for them this year though, as Podsednik has nearly outperformed Rios this season (except for HR numbers).

You're right though-- between Peavy & Rios, the Sox are a bit handicapped long term, however.
