It's too bad the Tigers didn't do their spending spree this year, because Michael Young wants out.
Would you give up Porcello to get him?

View Full Version : Who wants Michael Young? MoTown 01-12-2009, 01:21 PM It's too bad the Tigers didn't do their spending spree this year, because Michael Young wants out. Would you give up Porcello to get him? Glenn 01-12-2009, 01:24 PM He's very good, but red flags should fly since all it took for him to want out of Texas was for them to ask him to move from SS to 3B. With as much as Leyland likes to move guys around, that might not be a good fit. WTFchris 01-12-2009, 02:21 PM He's very good, but red flags should fly since all it took for him to want out of Texas was for them to ask him to move from SS to 3B. With as much as Leyland likes to move guys around, that might not be a good fit. Well, he already had to move from 2B to SS. They want to move him to 3B to make room for a young guy. I can understand getting tired of having to adjust every time. He might be thinking why shouldn't the other guy adjust? Wilfredo Ledezma 01-12-2009, 02:29 PM I wouldn't give up Porcello for Michael Young, no way. Young is a damn good player, but he wouldn't make us a better team. We're already a top 3 offense in the AL. WTFchris 01-12-2009, 02:36 PM Uh, we were probably the #1 offense on paper last year, that didn't pan out. It would be going from .245, 5-10 HR's and 30-50 RBI's to about .300, 15-20 HRs and 90 RBI's Yes, it is a big upgrade. So what would you pay for that upgrade? The other issue is he just signed a 5 year 80 mil contract. I can't imagine DD will take that salary on without dumping Sheff. Wilfredo Ledezma 01-12-2009, 02:55 PM Our offense isn't want killed us, we need pitching. If Michael Young was on the 2008 Tigers, we would've won the same amount of games. Not to mention, he plays in the most hitter friendly park on earth (he hit .264 away from Arlington; and just .256 after the All-Star break). It would make more sense if we made a deal for him next offseason. That way we would have Sheff's contract off the books and Polanco would be a free agent (thus creating a hole at 2B). If we wanted him now, we'd have to give up probably two of our top 5 prospects (Porcello, Perry, Iorg, Crosby, Satterwhite). Not worth it. We need pitching. Any kinds of pitching will do. Washed up vets like Mark Mulder or mediocre lefties like Will Ohman & Joe Beimel. The division is winnable. Nobody in the division, other than mayble Cleveland, has upgraded their roster this offseason. But we just need to acquire some bullpen arms, of any kind. Glenn 01-12-2009, 03:06 PM Would you give up Porcello to get him? I think the better question is "Would you give up Porcello AND Sheffield for him?" I wouldn't give up Porcello for him, personally, but I would give up something pretty good + Sheff, that's for sure. The Rangers were interested in Sheff a while back, no? Vinny 01-12-2009, 03:11 PM Young's numbers have been trending pretty steadily down. He may rebound but at 32 his peak's probably pretty much over. That contract they gave him was the laughing stock of the league, no way should we bail them out of it. I'd give them a minor prospect and Sheffield but not much more. Zekyl 01-12-2009, 04:41 PM Some douche on MLive's comments section thinks we could get Young for: Give up: Nate Roberston or Dontrelle Marcus Thames and some prospects Those would have to be some solid prospects for them to take on Robertson or Dontrelle. Vinny 01-12-2009, 06:00 PM They'd be shedding alot of salary themselves though. WTFchris 01-12-2009, 06:07 PM How many years does Nate have left? Young still has 3-4 left. Train Wreck 01-12-2009, 06:46 PM I believe that Nate has 2 years left. Wilfredo Ledezma 01-12-2009, 07:25 PM The Rangers were interested in Sheff a while back, no? Until Dombrowski asked for value in return. Zekyl 01-12-2009, 07:32 PM Until Dombrowski asked for value in return. That's how I seemed to remember it. They wanted him for nothing. Jethro34 01-14-2009, 09:40 PM We need pitching. Any kinds of pitching will do. Washed up vets like Mark Mulder or mediocre lefties like Will Ohman & Joe Beimel. Saying Mark Mulder would solve our problems makes you a genius. Calling him washed up puts you on thin ice. |
