Glenn 01-02-2009, 12:00 PM Peyton Manning voted AP’s NFL MVP
By BARRY WILNER, AP Football Writer
NEW YORK (AP)—Peyton Manning has joined Brett Favre as the only three-time winners of The Associated Press NFL Most Valuable Player Award.
The Indianapolis Colts quarterback was a landslide winner Friday in balloting by a nationwide panel of 50 sports writers and broadcasters who cover the NFL. Manning also was the league MVP in 2003, when he shared it with Tennessee quarterback Steve McNair, and in 2004.
Favre, then with Green Bay, took MVP honors in 1995 and ‘96 before sharing it with Detroit running back Barry Sanders in 1997.
Manning received 32 votes, far ahead of Miami quarterback Chad Pennington and Atlanta running back Michael Turner.
WTFchris 01-02-2009, 12:11 PM shocker.
Pennington was #2? WTF?
Defensive players never stand a chance in this thing.
Timone 01-02-2009, 02:21 PM I had him as my MVP, so I wasn't surprised (I'm always right). I just didn't have Pennington as my #2 (top 5 though), so that came as a surprise.
Glenn 01-02-2009, 02:22 PM Yeah, I had Pennington tied for #2 with someone else on my official ballot, so this was a bit of a shocker.
Timone 01-02-2009, 02:22 PM Defensive players never stand a chance in this thing.
If there was a year for defensive players to have a chance this was it, with Harrison anchoring arguably one of the best defenses in NFL history.
Timone 01-02-2009, 02:24 PM For the record, Peterson was my #2.
WTFchris 01-02-2009, 03:19 PM If there was a year for defensive players to have a chance this was it, with Harrison anchoring arguably one of the best defenses in NFL history.
I would think Porter would get more votes than Pennington.
Timone 01-02-2009, 03:24 PM Plus, you had Ed Reed playing insane for a depleted secondary this season. Not that I'm a homer (my connection to Baltimore is tenuous, at best) or that he'd even get MVP consideration or anything, but...
Glenn 01-05-2009, 02:18 PM Steelers' Harrison named top defensive player (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3811266)
Suck it, Ed Reed fans.
Tahoe 01-05-2009, 02:45 PM Steelers' Harrison named top defensive player (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3811266)
But he lacks character
Timone 01-05-2009, 02:53 PM Steelers' Harrison named top defensive player (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3811266)
Suck it, Ed Reed fans.
lol, I have no problem with that.
Timone 01-05-2009, 03:21 PM I just read that Demarcus Ware finished 2nd.
How 'bout them Cowboys?!?
Timone 01-12-2009, 09:17 AM The Broncos and WTFChris have their guy -- Patriots OC Josh McDaniels.
Glenn 01-12-2009, 10:25 AM Yeah, because offense was their big problem.
WTFchris 01-12-2009, 12:42 PM Well supposedly he worked on the defensive side as well because I guess Billechek does that with his coordinators so they learn from both sides.
I heard he's looking to bring Dom Capers with him, so I would suspect he would head up the defense.
Glenn 01-13-2009, 12:54 PM The Cardinals re-signed Jerame Tuman up in this bitch.
He was always a favorite of mine.
Zekyl 01-17-2009, 04:23 PM Julius Peppers wants out of Carolina. (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/9092360/Peppers-won't-sign-long-term-deal-with-Panthers) He feels that he cannot reach his full potential there and wants to go elsewhere, preferably somewhere with a 3-4 scheme it seems.
Tahoe 01-17-2009, 06:33 PM If we signed him we wouldn't have to draft a DE. Dreaming...
Vinny 01-21-2009, 02:26 PM Orton back at it:

WTFchris 01-21-2009, 03:21 PM That first picture is totally doctored. The shadowing on the bottles is different than the rest of the picture. Not that he isn't passed out...
Vinny 01-21-2009, 03:41 PM That first picture is totally doctored. The shadowing on the bottles is different than the rest of the picture. Not that he isn't passed out...
Yeah, I don't think they were trying to hide that considering the bottles are just kind of hovering in mid-air.
Zekyl 01-21-2009, 04:23 PM And its the exact same picture as the last one, except for the bottles.
Timone 02-15-2009, 03:26 PM Falcons are looking to trade the rights to Vick.
How much you want to bet he ends up in Oakland or Dallas?
Tahoe 02-15-2009, 03:29 PM Is there an NFL team with a Dog logo? I can only think of NCAA Georgia Bulldogs.
epic failure at a joke
Timone 02-15-2009, 03:34 PM Hey, how about the Lions. Lions are related to dogs, aren't they Tahoe?
Tahoe 02-15-2009, 03:42 PM I 'knew' that was coming
RegicideGreg 02-16-2009, 12:32 PM The Jags just released Fred Taylor after 11 seasons. Too bad, he was my favorite player on my second favorite team.
Tahoe 02-16-2009, 01:33 PM I'd give a mil to play here next year. Linehan likes rbs by committee
Vinny 02-16-2009, 03:54 PM Yeah, and he actually still showed a lot last year.
Zekyl 02-16-2009, 05:01 PM Didn't they say they wanted to get another RB to pair with Smith? Would Fred Taylor be a good pairing? Smith is more of a bounce it outside kind of guy from what I recall.
Timone 02-16-2009, 05:45 PM Ravens release McAlister.
Need to clear up some space for Ray and he's also had injury problems the past few seasons, so I understand the move. But Chris has been my favorite Raven for a while now, so it's still going to be sad to see him go.
Jethro34 02-16-2009, 09:34 PM McAllister was pretty clutch until the past 2 years. Only missed 7 games in his first 8 seasons, but has missed 18 games the past 2 seasons.
I'm guessing he'll only sign somewhere that he has a chance to add another ring right away.
Timone 02-16-2009, 09:37 PM McAllister was pretty clutch until the past 2 years. Only missed 7 games in his first 8 seasons, but has missed 18 games the past 2 seasons.
I'm guessing he'll only sign somewhere that he has a chance to add another ring right away.
Yep, which is precisely why I understood the move. 8 mil is too much for an injury prone 31 year old.
Prior to the 07 season you could say that he was a top 3 CB.
Zekyl 02-16-2009, 10:35 PM Injury prone ex-star? Sounds like a Lion-type.
Wilfredo Ledezma 02-17-2009, 01:03 PM Deuce McAllister was cut today by New Orleans.
He's done.
Tahoe 02-17-2009, 06:08 PM Didn't they say they wanted to get another RB to pair with Smith? Would Fred Taylor be a good pairing? Smith is more of a bounce it outside kind of guy from what I recall.
I'm sure we need to sign someone, but doubt they were looking this big.
As far as pairing...I don't look at it like you need somone with a drastically different style. You should get that from your FB.
I'd like to add someone as good as Taylor to keep Smifs atts down.
I was thinkin if SD releases LT,or whatever the hell they're talking about doing with him, that they'd go after Taylor. helluva lot cheaper than LT if they could get him between a mil and a mil and half.
Jethro34 02-17-2009, 09:37 PM Not a good week for McAllisters.
Tahoe 02-18-2009, 07:04 PM Suggs tagged
Haynesworth is testing FA
Wilfredo Ledezma 02-19-2009, 09:05 AM Darren Sproles got franchise tagged.
Wilfredo Ledezma 02-19-2009, 09:14 AM Rams franchise tagged OJ Atogwe.
DrRay11 02-19-2009, 09:21 AM ^Damn. Oh well, Bullocks/Alexander are probably some of our lesser problems...
Zekyl 02-19-2009, 10:02 AM I thought Bullocks actually started to show some promise toward the end of the season. People were starting to like him a bit.
DrRay11 02-19-2009, 10:06 AM Right-- I wanted Atogwe to replace Alexander, but Alexander isn't awful so it's okay... I'd rather get someone like Dunta Robinson in FA to go along with a NT.
Wilfredo Ledezma 02-19-2009, 11:03 AM Dunta would be nice. I hope they look into that...
Sean Jones could be available for safety. Cleveland's not going to franchise him...
DrRay11 02-19-2009, 11:18 AM Eh.. If we're not getting a stud safety, we may as well give Alexander a shot so we can put the rest of our resources into other positions.
Wilfredo Ledezma 02-19-2009, 12:30 PM Hold the phone, the Texans just franchised Dunta...
Looks like Bodden & Bly are the best available corners
Asomugha is about to get a long-term deal too, so cross off his name...
DeAngelo Hall?
Wilfredo Ledezma 02-19-2009, 12:40 PM Also LeRoy Hill, who Killer wrote an article about today on MLive about the Lions possibly targeting, was just franchised by the Seahawks today...
WTFchris 02-19-2009, 12:42 PM Any word on LBs? I think Scott will be cut loose (Suggs franchised and Lewis will be kept). He said he'd love to play here but are the Lions interested? What about Foote?
It would be nice to get a couple solid vets in there (better than Lennon) so they could shore up the trenches (and maybe add a QB and CB based on value).
Wilfredo Ledezma 02-19-2009, 12:44 PM Foote took back his "I want to play for the Lions" statement last week, but he's still likely to get cut since he's got a big cap figure.
Wilfredo Ledezma 02-19-2009, 12:48 PM RotoWorld...
New coach Jim Schwartz acknowledged Thursday that he's interested in adding ex-Titans to the Lions' roster.
As long as they're not as bad as the ex-Bucs Rod Marinelli brought in. CB Eric King, FS Vincent Fuller, and OT Daniel Loper could be targeted by Schwartz.
DrRay11 02-19-2009, 12:48 PM I'd take Scott or Foote so long as we don't overpay for either. If not, Stafford/Laurinaitis could be a decent draft... Laurinaitis' biggest weaknesses are fixable (upper body strength will lead to shedding blockers). It's just that he's not really improved in his 3 seasons at OSU, but all of those seasons were stellar, so... Yeah. I'd like to see Laurinaitis put on some more strength and I think he could be a very good MLB in the NFL for a long time.
WTFchris 02-19-2009, 12:50 PM Yeah, if Stafford really shows he's a franchise QB I would be fine with him and Lauranitus.
The only issue is when do you find a pass rusher? Does one slip to the 2nd?
DrRay11 02-19-2009, 12:58 PM What are you thinking as a pass rusher? A nose tackle? I think Avril and White are going to be starting day one... I don't see us picking anyone to start ahead of Avril, I don't think we have that luxury.. unless we move Avril to SLB or something.
I'm hoping to get a strong NT in FA so we don't have to reach for Brace at 33.
Tahoe 02-19-2009, 01:01 PM Avril and White starting...agree
WTFchris 02-19-2009, 01:03 PM I suppose, but what have they shown? I guess it doesn't hurt to give them a year and see what you've got there.
Supposing it was Stafford and James, do they go CB (2nd), OG (3rd)?
DrRay11 02-19-2009, 01:06 PM I would think it would be that or the reverse. It's really too early to tell depending on FA... If they go Stafford and Laurinaitis, but still don't have an NT, I could see Ron Brace at 33.
Tahoe 02-19-2009, 01:11 PM Led the team in sacks... White had more starts, me thinks, but Avril had 5 and he didn't play regularly til the end of the season. I like these 2...specially CA
Zekyl 02-19-2009, 02:20 PM Avril had something like 5-6 sacks in his 5 starts.
Tahoe 02-19-2009, 02:23 PM He's my Lion
Wilfredo Ledezma 02-19-2009, 05:30 PM I wouldn't mind signing a slew of high-upside FA busts like Dewayne Robertson who was just cut by Denver. If nothing else he's cheap and still decent. He's got moreleft in the tank than Chuck Darby.
Wilfredo Ledezma 02-19-2009, 09:41 PM Colts CB Marlin Jackson was awarded $225,000 in a lawsuit against a Michigan student who accused him of assault in 2003.
The student originally sued for $10 million, claiming that Jackson assaulted him with a bottle at a party. Jackson then countersued, denying use of the bottle and saying that the accusation hurt his draft stock.
Tahoe 02-19-2009, 09:42 PM Damn straight. Don't be accusin peeps of shit like that, unless they did it.
Timone 02-19-2009, 09:43 PM I'm not a Michigan alum, so I couldn't care less. I just want to be a winner on the majority of the Saturdays in the Fall.
Tahoe 02-19-2009, 09:53 PM lol...nice
Tahoe 02-22-2009, 07:15 PM Titans increased offer to FA Haynseworth. This one will be interesting to watch. Tons of money at play here.
FillyCheezeSteak 02-22-2009, 09:40 PM Titans increased offer to FA Haynseworth. This one will be interesting to watch. Tons of money at play here.
They are talking in the neighborhood of 6 years and between 80 - 100 million dollars with a stupid signing bonus. That doesn't even seem fair, but I think he is definitely worth it.
Glenn 02-22-2009, 09:45 PM If he doesn't stomp on anyone else's unhelmeted head, then maybe.
Tahoe 02-22-2009, 09:46 PM 66 ^ I know, its crazy. The Vikes did it, and hopefully they'll be strapped for a while.
Tahoe 02-22-2009, 09:46 PM And for a guy who did what 67 says
Tahoe 02-25-2009, 12:47 AM SHAUN ROGERS WANTS OUT OF CLEVELAND CUZ HE DOESN'T LIKE MANGINI APPARENTLY LOL
I'd take him back if we can get some talent around him. Otherwise, wasted effort at this point in his career. He's making about 6m a year.
DrRay11 02-25-2009, 08:05 AM Haynesworth could be signing with the Redskins for a deal of 100m plus.
http://blogs.chron.com/fantasyfootball/2009/02/albert_haynesworth_will_be_a_w.html
Tahoe 02-25-2009, 12:37 PM I just read yesterday that the Skins were out of the Haynesworth possibilities.
Good, go sign him to 16 mil. That will leave other holes they can't fill.
The numbers I heard from the start were that if the Titans came up with 13 a season, he'd stay, even though he could get 15-16 on the FA market.
I guess that part is true. The Titans raised their offer, iirc, from 9mil a season to almost 11 on Monday.
Tahoe 02-25-2009, 12:42 PM SHAUN ROGERS WANTS OUT OF CLEVELAND CUZ HE DOESN'T LIKE MANGINI APPARENTLY LOL
I'd take him back if we can get some talent around him. Otherwise, wasted effort at this point in his career. He's making about 6m a year.
What are y'all take on Shaun Rogers and him coming back here.
I think he'd make Cody a helluva lot better and Avril too.
Timone 02-25-2009, 12:44 PM The Vikings are offering a 4th rounder for the Rosenfels, apparently.
This would put them over the top for sure.
Tahoe 02-25-2009, 12:53 PM ^ lol
The Ravens need to pull it to pull it together. It seems like every team is going to be after their guys. Get Ray under contract and then see what happens, but you have some players that are ready to hit FA tomorrow. Get some of those deals done.
Timone 02-25-2009, 12:55 PM Bart's probably going to be the odd man out.
Tahoe 02-25-2009, 12:55 PM fwiw
Jim Wyatt, of The Tennessean, reports the agent for Tennessee Titans impending free-agent DL Albert Haynesworth, Chad Speck, shot down a rumor that his client had a deal in place with the Washington Redskins that will pay him $15-$16 million a year as part of a $100 million deal. "Albert is not allowed to have a deal with another team and he doesn't have a deal with another team,'' Speck wrote in a statement late Tuesday, Feb. 24. "We continue to keep the lines of communication open with Tennessee. The rumors suggesting that a deal is in place between Albert and the Washington Redskins is completely false."

Tarvaris Jackson-Sage Rosenfels-Gus Frerotte
What a great problem to have!
Tahoe 02-25-2009, 12:57 PM Bart's probably going to be the odd man out.
I was reading on him a lil bit and peeps think he is really good, but other said get him away from Ray and he might not be the same player.
It sounds like Ray is the key.
Timone 02-25-2009, 12:59 PM Bart's probably going to be the odd man out.
I don't think Leonhard will be back either.
As well as he played last season, and especially in the postseason, safety really isn't much of a concern for :us:. I think :we: would be fine in that department.
CB is the first position of need, no question. I'd also like to see them upgrade the receiving core.
Tahoe 02-25-2009, 01:00 PM Armando Salguero, of The Miami Herald, reports the Miami Dolphins are targeting two and possibly three Baltimore Ravens impending free agents, according to a league source: LB Bart Scott, C Jason Brown and S Jim Leonhard. However, the source says it is unlikely the Dolphins will get more than one of those players at the most, as one of Brown or Scott is likely to return to Baltimore.
Timone 02-25-2009, 01:03 PM Brown:
“I feel as though I’ve made too many sacrifices to leave or want to go somewhere else. There’s a personal aspect to it. I’ve made so many life-long relationships. The Ravens have a wonderful organization. You hear so many horror stories around the league about staph infections or whatever. I’m praying that I get to stay.”
Love the Cleveland dig.
Timone 02-26-2009, 12:04 PM Tahoe, I can now see them signing Bart and not Ray
WOTS is The Ravens are closer to reaching a deal with him than they are with 52 at this point.
Tahoe 02-26-2009, 01:15 PM I hadn't seen that. I did see something about how Ray IS the QB of that D and if he isn't there, the D will suffer.
^ fwiw...just some peeps opinion
If Ray doesn't bargain with them at all, I'd consider cutting ties. Let him go to Dallas.

You're just not street savvy.
WTFchris 02-26-2009, 01:41 PM i'd bring Ray here for a couple years to play between Sims and a LB at #20.
Timone 02-26-2009, 01:44 PM I'll jump aboard the Ray to Dallas bandwagon.
The Jets are a possibility as well, of course.
Zekyl 02-26-2009, 02:44 PM i'd bring Ray here for a couple years to play between Sims and a LB at #20.
In a heartbeat. He'd bring intensity we've been lacking, and he'd be a great teacher/example for the young guys.
Tahoe 02-26-2009, 05:05 PM As long as we bring in 4 or 5 news D players, yes. If we roll with this crew, then I don't do it.
Tahoe 02-26-2009, 05:17 PM Dallas released Brad Johnson. Wasn't that there #2 guy? Maybe a possibility for Danny O
Timone 02-27-2009, 12:25 AM Ravens offered Ray a 3 yr/$24m deal.
Timone 02-27-2009, 10:11 AM IT's OFFICIAL: ROSENFELS TO THE VIKINGS FOR A DRAFT PICK.
NOW I WON'T LOL WHEN PEOPLE PICK THE VIKINGS TO GO TO THE SUPER BOWL.
WTFchris 02-27-2009, 12:02 PM How do you feel about this MoTown? Is he going to take them all the way?

Train wreck?
Glenn 02-27-2009, 01:22 PM Is he a Bucs fan?
Tahoe 02-27-2009, 01:24 PM lol, not asking another unanswerable there. That GM is going to turn them into the University of Miami.
Wilfredo Ledezma 02-27-2009, 01:25 PM I don't understand what Tampa is doing.
Fire Gruden & GM, hire a position coach to be head coach. Lose Monte Kiffin.
They cut all their veterans, so one would assume they are going to take a step back.
They franchise Antonio Bryant after one fluke season, and acquire Kellen Winslow. So maybe they're going for a division title next year.
They're letting Garcia walk and told Luke McCown he will start. Ok, maybe they are taking a step back

Timone 02-27-2009, 03:31 PM I'm telling ya, I think he pulls a Plummer.
Tahoe 02-28-2009, 01:48 PM Per Rotorooter...
NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports that Matt Cassel is expected to be traded to the Chiefs, but there may a third "mystery team" in play.
The deal isn't quite done yet. Schefter has softened his wording, saying the deal has been "agreed to" and "expected." Paperwork has been drawn up; Cassel will be traded. Schefter says there is now some question whether Kansas City could be his final destination. The "mystery team" is supposedly a surprise, which would seemingly rule out Tampa. That team could either swoop in or get involved in a three-way deal. Cassel is also working out a possible contract, which is probably the biggest factor in holding up this news. It's possible the Patriots agreed to trade compensation, but Cassel's contract demands are holding the deal up. If Cassel is dealt, it's safe to say the Tyler Thigpen era is over before it started.
I wonder who the surprise 3rd team is
Tahoe 02-28-2009, 01:49 PM NFL NETWORK has it a done deal. Who knows
Tahoe 02-28-2009, 02:11 PM Vrabel and Cassell to KC the 34th overall pick.
Tahoe 02-28-2009, 02:57 PM Detroit and Tampa were in on the Cassell to KC deal. Detroit tried to get Cassell to trade him to Denver for Cutler.

Zekyl 03-01-2009, 11:52 AM For a potential starting CB. I'll take it.
Tahoe 03-02-2009, 12:24 AM Brandon Marshall arrested Sunday. Not that I still have hopes of Cutler being moved, but I still have hopes of Cutler being moved. This can't help Cutler to get those warm fuzzies back with the team. Marshall could start the year suspended, again.
Also, the meeting that was supposed to take place between the Broncos and Cutler Sunday night (presumably to smooth things over), was postponed or cancelled or some shit. At least thats what I read.
Timone 03-02-2009, 07:24 AM Samari Rolle wants out of Baltimore.

Absolutely, with some other swapping. There's countless tossing back and forth scenarios out there that seem decent.
Timone 03-02-2009, 10:49 AM I like Chris' Cutler/12th for #1/#20/extra 3rd deal.

Charges dropped against Marshall.
Tahoe 03-02-2009, 03:45 PM ^ But now the NFL is going to look into the initial arrest anyway.
Tahoe 03-02-2009, 04:19 PM Skins release Jason Smith DE. In case you're wondering...This release is the result of making the biggest splash in FA signings and only having 8 mil of cap space. Expect more of this.
DrRay11 03-02-2009, 04:25 PM ^^Jason Taylor. He's 35, with a big contract -- I don't know if I'd say I expect a bunch more cuts from them.
Tahoe 03-02-2009, 04:28 PM They have to. They are over the expected cap.
DrRay11 03-02-2009, 04:35 PM Oh, K. Just saying the Taylor cut especially makes sense.
Tahoe 03-02-2009, 04:39 PM They do not have a lot DEs though.
They just signed him from Miami last year? Granted to big bucks so that contract puts a bullseye on him, but I think this was a 'had to' move.
Zekyl 03-02-2009, 05:32 PM Any interest in making him a Lion? Not that I think he'd want to come here in the slightest, but if he was available I'd take him on a 2 year deal.
DrRay11 03-02-2009, 05:35 PM Nope, DE is one of the lesser needs on the team, and we're likely trying to get younger. That is a signing Millen would've attempted. No.
Tahoe 03-02-2009, 05:36 PM He was out all year on the IR I think and expects big coin. It doesn't look like hes the type of guy the Lions are looking at.

WTFchris 03-05-2009, 05:31 PM Apparently he requested his release. Wonder why?
I hope Denver signs him. They could really use him and they've had crap back there since Lynch retired.
yes, I'm a Lions fan but Broncos are my #2 team now.
Zekyl 03-05-2009, 07:01 PM Fuck Denver. Bring him in and pair him with Bullocks. Probably better than any other option we'll end up with.

Timone 03-05-2009, 07:07 PM What I want to know is if it's possible that he's gotten even worse at coverage.

Glenn 03-20-2009, 03:51 PM Police: Fugitive Ex-NFL QB killed in Greece crash
By PATRICK WALTERS, Associated Press Writer
Fri Mar 20, 12:47 pm ET
PHILADELPHIA – A former NFL quarterback who failed to show for sentencing on drunken driving charges nearly four years ago was killed in a car crash in Greece, authorities said, leaving behind an unsolved mystery involving two suspicious fires and years spent on the lam.
The State Department used fingerprints to determine that the victim of Saturday's crash was William "Jeff" Komlo, according to Jim Vito, Chester County's acting chief detective. Vito said he was initially skeptical, concerned because of Komlo's history that he might have faked his own death.
"Even though we heard that he was deceased, the first reaction was that, well, we better make a positive identification," Vito said.
Once the State Department verified the fingerprints were those of the 52-year-old fugitive, Vito was satisfied.
"As far as we're concerned, we're closing this now."
A State Department spokesman, Noel Clay, declined to comment "out of respect for the family." He would not say where in Greece the accident happened or release any details of the crash.
Komlo played for the Detroit Lions, Atlanta Falcons and Tampa Bay Buccaneers over five NFL seasons from 1979 to 1983.
In July 2005, Komlo failed to show for sentencing on two drunken driving convictions.
Two months earlier, authorities had issued a warrant for Komlo when he didn't appear for a May 10 preliminary hearing on charges in an alleged assault on his girlfriend.
At the time he went missing, Komlo was under investigation for fires at his home in Chester Springs, Pa., and another home in Florida.
Komlo had lived in Chester Springs and worked as an insurance broker in the nearby Philadelphia suburb of Wayne. Authorities did not know what happened to him after he skipped the hearings in 2005.
"This guy apparently has created some intrigue over the years," Vito said.
After getting into 16 games his rookie year with the NFL, the 200-pound, 6-foot-2-inch quarterback played sporadically the rest of his career.
An NFL spokesman did not immediately comment Friday.
Komlo starred at the University of Delaware, leading the Blue Hens to the Division II national championship game in 1978. The Lions picked him in the 9th round of the 1979 NFL draft.
Scott Selheimer, Delaware's sports information director, said the school's thoughts go out to Komlo's friends and family.
"It's a tragic situation where someone, when they were here at the university, was kind of like a hero," Selheimer said. "It's a shame that his life kind of tumbled. He was going through so many troubled situations for so long."
An attorney who had represented Komlo in Palm Beach County, Fla., declined to comment Friday.
Two other attorneys who had represented him in Pennsylvania did not return telephone calls from The Associated Press. A telephone number for his ex-wife could not be located.

Tahoe 03-30-2009, 01:09 PM Frickin Pats get a 3, 4, 5 comp picks again this year (or is it 4, 5, 6?). Those fuckers are good at working the system, but its through good drafting.
They draft good players and develop them. Then they tender the players that can't quite make the starting lineup, let them go sign elsewhere and get a good pick for them. Then draft good players again, develop them, etc. Thats how good teams stay good.
The Lions, on the other hand, suck. We just signed a bunch of players and I think 1 of our guys signed elsewhere.
We'll see what happens with Pioli leaving, but I'd bet it will continue.
Tahoe 03-31-2009, 01:19 AM Got damn those DA's seem to be fuckin with Plax. I bet most of us could shoot ourselves in a bar with our own gun and not have a DA asking for 5mos-1yr in actual jail time. Sheeeit
Zekyl 03-31-2009, 08:52 AM I'm pretty sure he's not in as much trouble for accidentally shooting himself as he is for lying to police, being submitted to the emergency room under a false name and trying to cover it all up. You put both of those together and its going to be a much tougher sentence.
WTFchris 03-31-2009, 10:11 AM Got damn those DA's seem to be fuckin with Plax. I bet most of us could shoot ourselves in a bar with our own gun and not have a DA asking for 5mos-1yr in actual jail time. Sheeeit
I heard on ESPN radio this morning that the min sentance for 2nd degree possession of a fire arm is 3 years in jail in New York. %40 of those who plead to 3rd degree charge get a year in jail. They are not being jerks and going after him. If you or I did this we'd be in jail a year, no question about it.

WTFchris 04-03-2009, 03:31 PM NEW YORK -- The New York Giants (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=nyg) have released wide receiver Plaxico Burress (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=2139), the team announced Friday.
I expect their pursuit of Boldin to pick up now.
Glenn 04-06-2009, 02:20 PM Burress: 'I know the sheriff personally'
ESPN.com news services
Plaxico Burress, released Friday by the Giants amid an ongoing gun-possession case in New York, cursed out a police officer in Florida during a recent traffic stop, telling the cop he was going to be in trouble because Burress knew the sheriff "personally," the New York Post has reported.
Burress, who faces a 3½-year prison sentence on the gun charge, replied to each of the officer's questions and commands with an "[expletive] you" during the stop, the newspaper reported, citing police.
Broward County Deputy Sheriff Donald Harris pulled Burress over around 10:30 a.m. on March 18 for speeding on Interstate 95 near Fort Lauderdale, the Post reported. Harris opened the door of Burress' black 2008 Toyota Sequoia when the officer couldn't see inside the player's SUV.
"[Expletive] you," Burress said, according to the Post. "You can't open my [expletive] door."
Burress, who the police report said was driving like "he was going to kill somebody," was issued a $150 speeding citation, his fifth traffic ticket in Florida in the past month, the report said.
According to the police, a "violent and aggressive" 31-year-old Burress was asked to get out of his car in order to be checked for weapons.
"You're going to hear about this by the end of your shift," said Burress, who has a house in South Florida, as he returned to his car, according to the newspaper report.
Burress also received tickets for going 60 mph in a 45 mph zone, improper tags, improper lane change and improper window tinting on March 1, the Post reported.
His gun-possession case was adjourned last Tuesday until June 15.

Hall
Patrol spokesman Lt. Tony Bradshaw says a state trooper stopped Hall just after 3 a.m. Sunday in Clermont County, west of Cincinnati.
Bradshaw says the 24-year-old Hall was polite and cooperative, acknowledged he had been drinking and took a breath test that showed a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.149. The legal limit in Ohio is 0.08.
Hall is the first Bengals player to face criminal charges in nearly a year. He's scheduled to be arraigned in Clermont County Municipal Court on Friday.
Bengals spokesman Jack Brennan referred to the team's "standard policy that we refrain from commenting on legal matters that are unresolved."

True. The hidden cap hits are death traps.
We'll have to roll with Lydon Murtha.
Tahoe 05-06-2009, 12:59 PM I'm pretty sure Backus can be cut without any cap hit. I think cutting him saves about 4.5mil.
No need to cut him unless Loper steps up.
WTFchris 05-06-2009, 01:12 PM I think they'd save 1.5 mil this year if he was cut. Do you consider Levi Jones a long term replacement there? I'm sure he wants to find a long term job.

The St. Louis Rams have released linebacker Pisa Tinoisamoa, the team's leading tackler in 2008.
"This was a difficult decision based on a lot of factors," Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo said Friday in a news release. "I have a great deal of respect for Pisa and wish him all of the best."
Tinoisamoa, a six-year veteran drafted by the Rams in the second round of the 2002 NFL draft, recorded 135 tackles in 2008, 88 of which were solo.
Tinoisamoa spent much of the previous two seasons on the injured-reserve list.

Zekyl 06-12-2009, 08:23 AM You know they will. He was good before he got here, we stuck him in a terrible defense that didn't fit his strengths in the slightest, then we cut him right as we moved to a defense that he fit perfectly. Opinions have ranged from the need of an upgrade to taking shots to get a #1 type playmaker such as Anquan Boldin or malcontent Brandon Marshall. Most fans agreed that they didn’t feel that the current group had enough talent. Sure Mason is an experienced pro, but Mark Clayton and Demetrius Williams have had injury issues and have been plagued by inconsistency and Kelley Washington had caught three passes in as many years.
So yesterday with the Ravens fresh off a record breaking day offensively they were ready to respond to the criticism particularly from ESPN analysts Keyshawn Johnson and Cris Carter who also poked fun at the Ravens wide outs. Johnson was quoted saying, “You want a bum, you pay for a bum”.
But after the ball game Derrick Mason was ready to defend his honor.
From CBS Sports:
“Keyshawn Johnson is the bum, that’s why he’s in the analyst seat,” said Mason after catching four passes for 47 yards against Kansas City. “He tried to come back to football but no one would sign him. He was never that good a player. He got lucky and signed on in Tampa Bay and won a Super Bowl because they had a great defense.
“Just look at the two people doing the criticizing, that’s all I’m saying. Keyshawn was overrated and Carter is in the same boat I’m in. He doesn’t have a Super Bowl ring either. He’s in the analyst seat without a ring. At least I’m playing. He still wants to play but he can’t anymore. We’re the bums? That’s why you’re in the analyst seat. Just be quiet and keep dreaming you still could play.”
Carter is the lesser of two evils, but I can't stand either of those guys as analysts.
At least Carter had game.
