View Full Version : It Happened. -- Rod Marinelli Edition Timone 12-29-2008, 09:12 AM If you don't know, you'll find out. Glenn 12-29-2008, 09:12 AM Marinelli out, I assume? Timone 12-29-2008, 09:13 AM Nobody? Time to let the cat out of the bag then. The Detroit Lions' pursuit of at least one victory in 2009 will have to come without Rod Marinelli, who is out as coach, ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports. The decision was made Monday morning. The Lions' 31-21 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday capped an 0-16 season -- the first in NFL history. Wilfredo Ledezma 12-29-2008, 09:19 AM Per NFL Network. Wilfredo Ledezma 12-29-2008, 09:19 AM Steve Spagnolo, anyone? Wilfredo Ledezma 12-29-2008, 09:20 AM ugh...LDB beat me to it MoTown 12-29-2008, 09:37 AM I'm actually surprised by this. I figured Ford liked him too much to fire him. Glenn 12-29-2008, 09:41 AM I figured that he wouldn't want to pay another coach. This is a good sign if you hope that they'll bring in a "real" boss, though. Any new leader is going to want his own coach, anyways. MoTown 12-29-2008, 10:03 AM Meyhew will have to find a coach that fits his GM style. WTFchris 12-29-2008, 10:36 AM Not a shocker. I didn't see how he could be retained when he was a defensive specialist and oversaw the worst defense in NFL history. The real issue is getting a good GM that can not blow 5 picks in the first 83. Zekyl 12-29-2008, 02:16 PM I'm sure we could find a way to keep him in the organization. I think we worked really hard this week. These valets gave their all out on that pavement. We've got to work on getting our bumper level lower than the other valets! We just aren't parking cars on Sunday the way we practice throughout the week. Our parallel parking needs to transfer over from practice to the streets but I'm proud of the way we worked, we'll get it, we'll keep working hard. Instead of pound the rock his motto could be "Pump The Break" Glenn 12-31-2008, 08:17 AM Bears would 'love' to have Marinelli John Niyo / The Detroit News Fired on Monday as the Lions' head coach, Rod Marinelli sounded confident he'd land another NFL job for next season. And he might find that opportunity with the Lions' North Division division rival in Chicago, where head coach Lovie Smith is both a friend and a former roommate. The two coaches got their start together a decade ago on Tony Dungy's staff at Tampa Bay. Bears general manager Jerry Angelo made it clear Tuesday that he'll strongly consider hiring Marinelli. "I think the world of Rod Marinelli," Angelo told reporters at a news conference, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. "I would love to have Rod Marinelli on our staff and I think Lovie would say the same thing. He's a great football coach. Anytime you get a chance to get a great coach or great player, you're not going to sit here and say you wouldn't consider him or you wouldn't work a way to do that." Bears defensive coordinator Bob Babich has taken heat for the team's struggles this season, as has defensive line coach Brick Haley. Marinelli was a defensive line coach with the Buccaneers before taking the Lions' head coaching job. |
