Thoughts? Predictions?

Timone
12-29-2008, 09:21 AM
Three of the 4 home teams this weekend are underdogs. I think 3 will lose (Miami, San Diego, and Minnesota -- sorry MoTown).

About San Diego though: as a fan, Indy is truly the only team in the AFC that scares me. And even though I'm picking against the Chargers, I'll be rooting for them and wouldn't be surprised if they pull off the upset. They traditionally play the Colts tough.

MoTown
12-29-2008, 09:37 AM
So, 4 out of the 5 "bird" teams made the playoffs. Ravens, Falcons, Cardinals and Eagles made it... Seahawks blew it.

Just an FYI - I HATE the Vikings. Even if I was truly a Minnesota fan, I wouldn't be able to stand the Vikings.

Well then, here's to hoping the Eagles beat the shit out of those Viqueens!! :motown owns:

Playoffs? PLAYOFFS? Talking about Playoffs?

Wilfredo Ledezma
12-29-2008, 03:53 PM
Once again, I`m joining the Steelers bandwagon for the playoffs.

The only two teams I really like (Lions & Bills) are the only two teams that haven't made the postseason since 2000.

But since I went to a game at Heinz Field last year, I`ll adopt them for a month.

Glenn
12-29-2008, 03:59 PM
^might only be two weeks

Timone
12-29-2008, 04:00 PM
^ Yeah, if Baltimore don't put Pittsburgh in position to drive down the field and win the game late.

Timone
12-29-2008, 04:02 PM
Nevermind, the Steelers would probably play Indy in the Divisional round... I think.

Glenn
12-29-2008, 04:03 PM
They'll play the team with the highest seed that wins this weekend.

Glenn
12-29-2008, 04:04 PM
Anybody else notice that the two teams most predicted to make it to the Super Bowl by "experts" (Pats and Cowboys) BOTH didn't even make the playoffs?

Timone
12-29-2008, 04:05 PM
It's all assumption on my part. I think Indy (#5) will beat SD (#4) and Baltimore (#6) will beat Miami (#3).

WTFchris
12-29-2008, 06:51 PM
I think all 4 road teams win this weekend myself.

DE
12-29-2008, 07:01 PM
It's at least not too hard to argue that all 4 road teams are better than each of the home teams they're playing.

I'm hoping that Miami throws their entire high-school playbook (to quote ESPN's TMQ) at the Ravens. We'd have a wacky cool offense going against 99999 different types of blitzes. That would be fun.

Timone
12-29-2008, 07:05 PM
They tried that Wildcat shit against Baltimore in Miami earlier in the season and got it shut down.

Tahoe
12-29-2008, 07:11 PM
They tried that Wildcat shit against Baltimore in Miami earlier in the season and got it shut down, so it'll be interesting to say the least.

Yep, they turned that wildcat into a tame pussy.

Tahoe
12-29-2008, 07:12 PM
^ And when the Ravens shut them down, I lost a lil respect for the Pats D. NE's D looked like shit against Miami.

I'm thinking about picking the Falcons to shock the world.

Tahoe
12-30-2008, 12:11 PM
I'd say Titans, Giants and Steelers in the top group to win it all.

Then Ravens, Colts, Panthers, Eagles and Chargers.

The rest is just to fill out the field.

Giants
Titans
Steelers
Panthers
Ravens
Chargers
Eagles

Wilfredo Ledezma
12-30-2008, 02:40 PM
I heard that the Vikings are having an incredibly hard time selling their playoff tickets. Apparently over 50% of their season ticket holders decided NOT to buy playoff tickets, citing 'the economy' as the main reason.

Just think how fast NFL playoff tix would last here in Detroit.

2 minutes, tops?

WTFchris
12-30-2008, 02:48 PM
Wow. They haven't been there since 2004, you'd think they'd be excited to go.

Glenn
12-30-2008, 02:49 PM
Maybe they all volunteered to help count votes instead?

Wilfredo Ledezma
12-30-2008, 02:53 PM
Or maybe they know it's not worth being teased until they get a real QB.

I like your picks except I'd have the Panthers over Atlanta.

Glenn
01-02-2009, 11:46 AM
Yeah, I'm taking a bit of a leap on that one.

I really wanted to put the Falcons into the Super Bowl.

WTFchris
01-02-2009, 11:48 AM
It would be cool, but I see the Panthers D (they both have running games) winning out. I think they'll have better field position and win the battle of attrition.

Tahoe

Atl over Zona
Colts over SD
Ravens over MIA
Philly over Minny

Car over Atl
NYG over Philly
Ravens over Titans
Steelers over Colts

NFC Championship

AFC Championship
Ravens over Steelers

Super Bowl
Car over Ravens

Glenn
01-02-2009, 02:01 PM
Wow, the Panthers, eh?

I guess that would finally settle an old argument about which Jake was better, Delhomme (Me) or Plummer (Jethro).

That was Peavy/Mulder before Peavy/Mulder ever existed.

Timone
01-02-2009, 02:03 PM
ARI over ATL
BAL over MIA
IND over SD
PHI over MIN

CAR over ARI
NYG over PHI

I like the Steelers but Rothy is slightly dinged up. I think the Giants were the best team in the NFL this year, but doing it twice is tough. Ravens O concerns me a lil bit. Colts have Peyton at QB...I've given up on him. I'll start believing, again, when he gets the first one.

edit...what I meant to say is its Car by default.

I'm actually a little nervous. Only a little though.

Tahoe
01-04-2009, 03:33 PM

SD Cheerleaders pretty damn good, theres only 1 or 2 on Indy's squad, iirc.

Tahoe

I'm feeling failure in AZ future this weekend. And Philly WiLL go down at some point. They have McNabb at QB afterall.

Vinny
01-06-2009, 11:10 PM
Zona's 10 point dogs. That's pretty big for a division round game.

Tahoe
01-06-2009, 11:15 PM
They finished the season so shitty, imo, that its tough to pick them. Maybe they'll surprise again....but I doubt it.

The 2 AFC games look like they could be epic games.

Who knows if the Giants are still in their funk. If not, its goodbye Philly.

Timone

My prediction: Ravens 16, Titans 13

Shock the world!

Tahoe
01-10-2009, 06:09 AM
Ravens by more than 3. I don't expect the Titans O to have a very good day.

Tahoe
01-10-2009, 05:52 PM
Looks like it was a pretty good 1st half of football.

Tahoe
01-10-2009, 05:54 PM
Ravens D comes up big again.

Timone
01-10-2009, 05:56 PM
I'll take a tie at halftime. :we: could very well be down 10 or so right now.

Tahoe
01-10-2009, 05:59 PM
"Your" D played good...no? Or just came up with the timely TO?

Timone
01-10-2009, 05:59 PM
The Titans o-line has dominated today. Which is why Collins looks so good -- he's getting all god damn day to throw.

Tahoe
01-10-2009, 06:02 PM
The man has to know his limitations though. I saw the drive from the 1 yard line and sure enough, he tries to go to far down field for the pick.

He was going good without trying to be a hero. Then it bit him in the ass.

Timone
01-10-2009, 06:05 PM
The man has to know his limitations though.

Sky's the limit when you put down the bottle.

Timone
01-10-2009, 06:10 PM
That's more like it.

Timone
01-10-2009, 06:13 PM
Damnit, the offense is starting out on the 10 -- a 3 and out is forthcoming.

Tahoe
01-10-2009, 06:18 PM
:we: got this

Timone
01-10-2009, 06:20 PM
I like :our: chances if they're going to have to rely on Lendale as far as the running game goes.

Tahoe
01-10-2009, 06:21 PM
Has Ryan been called for any of the coaching vacancies?

Timone
01-10-2009, 06:22 PM
Yes. I'm not sure which teams though.

Tahoe
01-10-2009, 06:24 PM
Good call to review that.

You never know if its the coach or the players. I think I could coach that fucking D...well...you know what I'm saying though.

Tahoe
01-10-2009, 06:25 PM
I always liked Deirdorf. I don't know they fired him on MNF.

Timone
01-10-2009, 06:26 PM
Nice job, Johnny.

01-10-2009, 06:34 PM
No Chris Johnson, I guess. Really good news.

Timone
01-10-2009, 06:34 PM

Timone
01-10-2009, 06:47 PM
I really wish Joe would lead them to a FG, or something. Something to fire the D up and make them play with even more intensity.

01-10-2009, 06:48 PM
Leonhard with a good return. Let's get this FG, fellas.

Okay seriously, does anyone else see what's going on here? IT'S THE LIONS CURSE!!! Every team that beat up and embarrassed the hapless Lions this year is getting tormented in the playoffs. Seriously just look at the facts:

Chargers over Colts (Colts beat Lions during regular season)
Cards over Falcons (Falcons are first team to make Lions a punchline)
Eagles over Vikings (Vikings rip the Lions heart out twice this season)

Ravens over Titans (Titans made the Lions look like fools on Thanksgiving)
Cards over Panthers (Lions thought they might finally win a game until the Panthers decided to ruin their hopes in a matter of 10 minutes)

The Lions are the biggest influence of this years playoffs! Who would have thunk it?!?!

MoTown

I'm starting to feel the Cards a lil bit. I think the Giants are running out of gas and the Eagles WILL fail tomorrow on in the NFC champ game.

Ravens look tough. Yes, Pit is rested but sometimes playing is better than sitting. Ya think the Ravens aren't pumped right now? yea right. SD is banged up.

Pit over SD
Who cares in the NFC cuz either team will be beat by the AFC. I guess the Giants could come re-energized, but I doubt it.

I want to see the Ravens and Pit play. That should be one to remember.

disclaimer: I didn't sleep last night and am tired and already had 1 beers.

Other than the QB, there are some similarities...

Marshall Faulk/Edgerrin James & Tim Hightower
Torry Holt/Larry Fitzgerald
Isaac Bruce/Anquan Boldin (if Boldin's healthy)
Az-Hakim/Steve Breaston
London Fletcher/Karlos Dansby

CAR has a pretty good defense IIRC, but not a D on the level of a Baltimore or PIT. So if it is ARI advancing, there's no way they're going to be able to move the ball through the air at will on either of those teams.

Same with Philly, even though they get more production from their backs (they probably won't be able to run it on either team though).

So why play DC? That's what I don't get. I can understand you wanting to play Dan O or Stanton (to develop someone). But wanting DC makes no sense.

You don't want Donovan because of money, yet you are willing to pay Dante 5 mil to do nothing more than Kitna did here.

McNabb makes twice that, but only for two more years. If they cut him can't any team sign him to whatever they want anyway? I'm betting he would end up signing for not that much more than Dante's 5 mil anyway.

Assuming he's out there, we should sign him. OR, you go the opposite way and play Dan O or Stanton %100 of the time. Either you go young OR you go with a vet (that actually can win). Dante is a waste of time.

I'd prefer to draft and OT and defense and let Stanton develop. But if they want a vet I prefer McNabb over the other options.

Depending on how the season ends for DM, I could see Minni, Chicago or some other team offering him some fairly big dough. But if he wins it (and if it he does, its cuz of Philly's D) he stays in Philly.

This discussion is getting silly.

Otherwise, yes, go away from this thread or keep the Lions discush in the Lions discush thread where it belongs. Please go review WTF rules.

Since the discussion about the Detroit Lions has moved over here though, I'll go with this.

DM on this years Detroit Lions and we'd prolly be drafting 3rd or something. You can post his carreer stats vs DCs and it doesn't mean shit to me. You could put Johny Unitas on this team and we'd still wouldn't have made the playoffs. If you'd be talking bout the Eagles defense, different story.

WTFchris
01-12-2009, 06:06 PM
Of course we wouldn't be in the playoffs. But DM is probably worth 3-4 wins that DC is not. Supposing we draft well and fill 2-3 holes on defense and 1-2 holes on the OL, he could be the difference between 4 wins and 8 wins next year.

Again, it all depends on the coach, offense run, and who they pick. All I'm saying is he's much better than DC.

A lil side discush...

Does Ed close on WRs the same way Troy does? I don't think I've ever seen a player anticipate better and be able to close the gap on a WR better than Troy does.

I'm not saying Troy gets out of position but it seems he likes to anticipate run and then is able to get back as quick as anyone I've ever seen.

I don't watch the Ravens as much as I have the Steelers, but is Ed the same type of player Troy is in that aspect of the game?

Also, I think first name basis is the way to go here.

I think the game will be won or lost when Warner is on the field vs Philly's D though.

I watched one of those replay things on NFLNET and I couldn't believe how many big plays the Cards had on the Panthers D. Big = more than 10-12 yards or something. I consider that a big play in the playoffs.

I don't expect the Cards to be able to do that vs Philly but I didn't think they would do that vs the Panthers either.

They've been playing since their bye in week 2, so 16 or 17 straight weeks now. They're giving up way more yards in the playoffs than in the regular season, but less points.
