1 year, $1 million + incentives

I don't like this signing. If he lasts the year with the club, I'll be very impressed.

I seriously think Santiago will end up being our SS for the majority of '09.

With him and Inge on the left side, our ERA could drop half a run. If we weren't going big with like a Furcal or something, I think this is about as good as we could do.

That's true, defensively we'll be much better than last year. God knows our pitchers don't rack up the K's.

How are the Indians in contention? I looked at their lineup a couple days ago (since the AL Central is playing the NL West this year I have paid a lot more attention to IL games)...it is so bad.

They have Haffner and Cabrera and the rest of that team is garbage. I think Inge could hit cleanup for them when they are playing without the DH. They aren't missing anyone either. I can't see that team staying in contention unless the pitching can really carry them the rest of the way. This is their lineup:

CF Brantley .274 (.256 in June)
2B Phelps .207
SS Cabrera .297
DH Haffner .341 (can't play in field)
RF Choo .244 (.233 in June, on DL)
1B Santana .255 (.218 in June)
LF Buck .226 (.179 in June)
3B Hannahan .214 (.175 in June)
C Marson .233

Nothing scary about that and many of them are getting worse. Right now they have 3 solid starters (under 4.0 ERA) that are keeping them in games. Even that is failing now. Masterson leads them at 2.98 ERA (5-6) but he used to have a 2.11 ERA and was 5-1. Talbot hasn't won a game in 5 starts and Carmona went from 3-3 to 4-10 with an ERA two runs higher.

I actually worry about Chicago the most. They had a lot of guys slumping and aren't that far back.

It's a terrible division, no doubt.

We're in first with a roster that is 50% minor league level talent.
