View Full Version : Dantonio to Notre Dame? Auburn? Broncos? (Calgary Stampeders preparing to make offer)

If they fire Weis, would he make the move?

Two of the "hottest" names out there for vacancies seem to be Brian Kelly and Mark Dantonio.

Pastor Mark has to be less than thrilled that Kelly's making more at Cincy than he is at MSU (he's getting just over $1m/yr.).

There's no doubt that Dantonio will be getting a pay raise, but will it be in East Lansing or someplace else?

If ND came in around $4-5m/yr, would he turn it down?

He could quote the Bible all he wants at ND.

This thread is an unofficial salute to bukdow, btw.

He strikes me as the type that would stay at MSU until either his alma mater calls or it is a premier university. I guess you could call ND that. I would expect the calls next year. Everyone thinks the big ten stinks this year so I'm sure the bigger universities would want to see more than 1 year of sucess from him.

No, I don`t think Dantonio is a Saban-type. And, no, I don`t think ND will come after Dantonio with $4-5 million.

Dantonio realizes he is building something pretty good in East Lansing and is happy and proud to be a part of it. He is looking at being a legend a la Biggie Munn. He is and will be compensated. Also, as I said above, I don`t believe Dantonio is a Saban-type. That being, a greedy worm that would chase a dollar bill into the mouth of a volcano. $1 million+ a year is enough money for anybody. Anymore is just pigish stupidity. Dantonio understands that.

I understand your comment. However, from the way the man has comported himself and from his consistent rhetoric, one can glean the man`s thoughts. He is a cut above the average money-grubbing college coach nowadays. He understands and appreciates the bigger picture. We at MSU are very happy to have him.

Dantonio is at his last coaching stop, boys. The key phrase used so far is he's building something "pretty good" Dantonio is one of those "pretty good" guys. He doesn't have to be great at MSU, just walk around, look serious, land a few Michigan recruits and Ohio garbage, quote the bible (hell, I'd rewrite it if I were him), get MSU to 7-5, not get caught jerking off young boys, and he's golden.

WTFchris

Dantonio in ranked games at MSU:

2007:
L 37-34 at #9 Wisconsin
L 24-17 at #1 OSU
L 28-14 vs #12 Michigan
L 24-21 vs #14 Boston College

2008:
L 45-7 vs #12 OSU
L 49-18 at #8 PSU

I think it's fair to say he doesn't win big games. Actually his big games in year one were much better. Only one game was at home (Michigan) and all were pretty close too. The two big games this year were bad. Getting blown out that badly at home by OSU is the worst.

And yes, he's still been better than Rich Rod, so lets not go there. This is about him, not big brother.

Yes, Dantonio hasn`t won a signature game yet. However, outside beating #1 OSU in Columbus, I can`t think of a big game Saban won while at MSU. I do remember the 38-0 drubbing by Stanford in the Sun Bowl under Saban.

IF MSU beats UGA in the Capitol One bowl game, I think it will be a big win.

WTFchris

In 1999-2000 Sabin's team beat a favored Florida in a bowl game with Bobby as the interim coach. That was his team he prepared for that win. Even if you discount that because he had left, that year he beat Michigan (finished ranked 3rd), Penn State (finished ranked 10th) and Ohio State.

Those are pretty good wins in my book, plus the win over #1 OSU you mentioned. He also beat the 10th ranked Irish that year too. There may be more I can't think of. Either way, those are 5-6 signature wins.

Yes, yes. BUT, if RR tanks, then Michigan will have an opening, and you KNOW they'll look no further than Lansing to at least get in on some of that boffo Michigan recruiting that Dantonio has become a whiz at!
I think we'll hear Dantonio being mentioned quite a bit for other jobs if he keeps this up, but I don't think any of them will have legs. The guy will be nothing more than a safety net, and not be considered for programs other than those that appear to be out of control. He has done a good job turning the Culture of Fail around at MSU so far, ya got to admit that. We'll see next year, though. Big shoes to fill again. Hoyer may not have been spectacular, but he is steady. Ringer? Holy hell, they'll not be replacing him anytime soon.

I wonder if his replacement, Brian Kelly will get more talk than him. He surpassed Dantonio's success at Cincy.

I used to agree until I realized how much Georgia is the SEC version of MSU - WAY overrated. Look at their 3 biggest games. You'll see they got absolutely destroyed in two of them and then forgot to bring defense with them against Georgia Tech. It could actually be a competitive game against two teams that are each 0-2 against real foes and have each lost one to a team that was simply above average.
Fact is, Big Ten and SEC are heavy with two at the top and crap below this year. Big 12 is killing it. I think that's a one year thing, though. Back to normal next year.

Dantonio to Auburn?

WTFchris
12-04-2008, 11:51 AM
I don't get why Auburn fired him. The guy has one bad year in the toughest conference in football (this year you may argue it's the big 12) and you fire him? Look at his previous 6 seasons to this one:

9-4, won bowl game, ranked 14th
8-5, won bowl game, unranked
13-0, won bowl game, ranked 2nd
9-3, lost bowl game, ranked 14th
11-2, won bowl game, ranked 9th
9-4, won bowl game, ranked 15th

Oh, he was also 6-0 in that span against their rival Alabama.

Obviously some boosters were looking for a reason to fire him and one bad season gave them the green light. What more can you ask a guy to do there?

With Dantonio's players. Dantonio is doing it with a MAJORITY of players he did not recruit. Same as Kelly. Therefore, Dantonio > Kelly > JLS.

Furthermore, MSU beat Northwestern while they were ranked this year. Not saying that is a signature win, but you omitted them. UM BIAS!!!!!!!!

WTFchris

It's not bias. It's just not knowing they were ranked at the time.

EDIT - Also, they were not ranked in the AP. They were 22nd in the USA today poll. That's probably why they didn't show up as ranked on the schedule I looked at.

Well it's clear he isn't going anywhere anytime soon. I think this shows MSU's commitment to him and that they are willing to renegotiate during his contract to get him the best deal possible. Hence if someone else comes calling, MSU will pony up. Not like when Saban bolted.

Irrelevant. You were once again shooting your mouth off and sounding like a fuck-ass. So, I will bet you your prognostication of the Dantonio era will be incorrect.

Here is my proposal; if and/or when any of your loudmouth bullshit is proven incorrect, or isn`t, the loser leaves the board. You are a very annoying little fucker, Willy, and I hope you have the balls (vagina in your case) to belly up.
