bukdow 10-27-2008, 09:44 AM Some interesting quotes coming out from last weekend`s loss to MSU.
“You really can’t get inside someone’s mind and let them know how important it is when it’s your last year,” senior nose tackle Terrance Taylor said. “You don’t get a chance to play in the Big House again, or against State anymore. My sophomore year, playing with (Lamarr) Woodley and (Alan) Branch and all those guys, I understood that. I understood it was their last year, and I wanted to have a good year for them.” I can’t say any more than that.”---Basically saying, this team`s underclassmen don`t get it and can`t be relied on.
And,
Offensive coordinator Calvin Magee: “When we pitch and catch, people gotta pitch and catch.”
Of course, it would be easier to pitch and catch if the offensive coordinator did not do ridiculous things like ask his fullback to run a sideline pattern.
What did Magee think of quarterback Steven Threet’s performance?
“Inconsistent, as it always is.”---Translation, I hate my QB and can`t trust him to make plays.
Considering next year will be just as much a struggle as this year, things are getting a little prickly in Ann Arbor.
Glenn 10-27-2008, 09:50 AM They should be dour, they're not a good team.
I don't think anyone expects them to be upbeat right now.
There is no shame in rebuilding, IMO.
“Inconsistent, as it always is.”
That's Yogi-esque.
And no shit the OC can't trust Threet to make plays. No one thinks Threet can consistently make plays.
bukdow 10-27-2008, 10:23 AM It appears the situation is beyond dour, it is progressing to blame and finger-pointing. The OC just threw Threet under the bus and Taylor has basically said the underclassmen don`t respect the seniors enough to to play efficiently and with passion.

Yes there is, this isn't the Lions.
Jethro34 10-27-2008, 11:14 AM Considering next year will be just as much a struggle as this year, things are getting a little prickly in Ann Arbor.
Wrong again.
bukdow 10-27-2008, 11:24 AM Wrong again.
Please, elaborate.
Jethro34 10-27-2008, 05:20 PM Wrong again meaning there is absolutely no way the team struggles this bad next year. Did you assume Notre Dame would struggle as bad this year as they did last year? Many did. They went 3-9 and had all the talent in the world. Guys were leaving and it looked ugly. But they were young. They even had 5 star guys that fit the Weis philosophy. But suddenly they are 5-2 and if they lose out they're still 67% better than last year.
So to see that Rodriguez will have all his freshmen with another year of experience, basically everyone back on offense (but the addition of some playmakers), some solid new defenders coming in or coming off redshirt years, and to anticipate that they will once again struggle just as much is retarded.
You better hope and pray Edwin Baker can come in and run for 200 yards each game and/or that Nichol (who has thrown how many NCAA passes?) is going to be a stud, because otherwise you'll struggle next year and you'll hide in a hole.
So, that's for those of you who need elaboration in the face of the obvious.

I think your blind faith in this team making great strides next year considering the loss of talent and dependence on freshmen and underclassmen is unfounded given the teams obvious regression over the course of the season. Additionally, the shedule for UM next year is much more difficult.
Speaking of hiding in a hole, didn`t you whine about being gone for a while if UM lost to Utah? Being a hiding, whiny little turd may suit you, but not me.
WTFchris 10-28-2008, 11:50 AM Well, I think most people have targeted 2010 as the year Michigan could contend for a national title.
I think next year they'll be back up to Carr standards (win 8 games and lose the big games).
MoTown 10-28-2008, 12:40 PM I think people like me are who bukdow is referring to.
I never liked the Rich Rod pick. I didn't like it from the beginning, but when Michigan had a different game plan against Florida in the bowl game last year, I wanted to wait until the season started to make my judgement. I'm back to hating it again. Here's my main concern: I hate gimmicky offenses. HATE THEM. They're not football. Name me one gimmicky offense that succeeds in the Big 10. The Big 10 is dominated by power football. Ohio State is great because they beat you up, and they outsmart you. There is a couple different ways Ohio State will attack you, but power football is the backbone of their team.
What coach has a power football background? Les Miles. I know he has an advantage in Louisiana because he doesn't recruit against anybody, but he gets the most out of his talent. IMO, Lloyd and the Michigan brass were so enthralled with getting someone in place before the season ended that they passed up the best choice. I know Lloyd and Miles don't get along, but put your differences aside for the good of the school.
What I'm most scared about is the fact that this could just be the beginning. I want to believe this is just a one year thing, but I can't be sure. I want to believe that Rodriguez will pull Michigan through this year, but I'm still worried. Could Michigan come out of this and be a powerhouse again? Yes. And I will be the first one to admit I was wrong. I'm just scared that Rodriguez isn't what everyone thought he was.
Call me a chicken little if you want, that's just my opinion.
Okay, back to letting bukdown entertain us.

Are you serious! You better archive this post fella, because when UM is 8-4 or 7-5 in 2010, I will enjoy your reinterpretation of what you said.

I'm not one for 'gimmicky' offenses either. I'm a fan of the pro style/power type of offense. That being said, I'm not going to pretend I even have a clue of what's going to happen one year or two years from now.
Of course, y'all know more about this than I do. I mean, shit, bukdow's a prophet. I'm a casual fan compared to you mofuckas.

I said that's what most people say. I have no idea (I don't following the recruiting stuff). Go back and read those threads and you'll see most posters on here are saying 2010 will be when they make their move.
I do have faith that he'll turn it around fast though. He's done it every other place he's been so far.

Think about it, what is harder to stop, 4 and 5 receivers who all run a 4.4 or less, a speedy HB, and a QB who you always have to worry about taking off to run, or 2 big receivers, a fullback,a power HB and a tree trunk at QB?
I know you said the Big Ten, but Florida won a National Championship with a true spread and LSU's offense last year was very spread-ish. Just be patient.
WTFchris 10-28-2008, 01:15 PM Northwestern and Purdue have had some pretty good success with spread offenses considering they don't get nearly the recruiting edge Michigan does.

WVU won its Big East championships after Miami(Fl), VaTech and another winning program left the conference to be replaced by Connecticut, Cincinnati and Southern Florida. RR`s gimmicky offense may work against that type of competition, but it isn`t going to be anything more than competitive in the Big Ten. Let alone National Champion.
RR will be lucky to get UM back to what Lloyd was achieving and keeping it there.
MoTown 10-28-2008, 01:28 PM Yes but how often do either of those teams contend for the Big 10?
WTFchris 10-28-2008, 01:34 PM Yes but how often do either of those teams contend for the Big 10?
Northwestern won the big ten back to back years. They were ranked #3 the first year and lost to USC in the Rose Bowl. The second year they lost to Peyton Manning.
They also won a 3rd Big Ten title (3 in 6 years) later.
Purdue won it in 2000, but that's it.
My point is that they did it with marginal talent. Look at what Florida and Texas have done with "gimmicky" offenses lead by athletic QB's.
FillyCheezeSteak 10-28-2008, 01:57 PM I wanna throw my 2 cents around regarding the gimmicky offense. Obviously someone in Ohio is quite concerned about it because at last check tO$U's class was chocked full of DB's which is an obvious sign that their future defense will be a little more spread out.
Jethro34 10-28-2008, 03:53 PM With a spread offense the concern isn't just winning the Big Ten, it's winning it all. We've seen what happens when Ohio State wins the Big Ten and plays against a spread.

Did you just fucking say "that being said"? WHAT...THE...FUCK
do you think you are doing? Auditioning for Scout? For crissakes, this shit has got to end.
The next thing you know, you'll be saying "It is what it is", and then I WILL have to kill you.
I am recovering from nearly a year on Scout. Don't push me.

HELLO! Gary Barnett wasn't running the spread when he coached Northworstern to those titles.
Howeva, I have no problem with the spread. The problem I have is with the process of the hire, and the fact that Michigan fans now want to scream that Martin and Rodriguez are here to "change the culture" of Michigan football.
Uh, dickheads, Rodriguez is here by accident. If you'll remember, the job was offered to Greg Schiano FIRST, and he accepted, then inexplicably said "Aw, fuck you. I'm at RUTGERS cocksucker motherfucker and tits"
And Rodriguez has never exhibited an ability to recruit. He won with shit players that he coached up in the shit Big Least. Yah, Yah, You betcha, he won bowl games, but if he keeps recrooting shit players, he won't make it to bowl games while in the BIG ASS BIG BAD BIG 10.

Jethro34 10-29-2008, 11:14 AM On post after he bashes the use of "That being said", he includes "However" in his own.
Pretty solid, since they could have been used synonymously given the context.
