Glenn 10-20-2008, 11:17 AM Thanks for the reminder, SDB: q3PKMzD5ogo Timone 10-20-2008, 11:25 AM THEY NEED TO CHECK THEMSELVES Glenn 10-20-2008, 01:14 PM The line opened at MSU by 4.5 in most places and has been bet up to 5.5 already. It really should be 7 pts (or more) but I guess it remains to be seen if that happens. Wizzle 10-20-2008, 01:16 PM Michigan's Brandon Graham boldly predicts victory over Michigan State by Pete Bigelow | The Ann Arbor News Monday October 20, 2008, 4:37 AM The University of Michigan football may still be stinging from Saturday's loss at Penn State, the program's first defeat at the hands of the Nittany Lions since 1996. The team may be careening toward its first absence from a bowl since 1975 and first losing season since 1967. Despite the dubious historical marks, the Wolverines have not lost their confidence or swagger when it comes to facing Michigan State, their intra-state rival. "We are not going to lose to State," defensive end Brandon Graham proclaimed Saturday following the team's 46-17 loss at Happy Valley. "That's just, we're not going to lose to State," he said again, shaking his head. "We're going to work hard. We're going to win." The Wolverines enter Saturday's game against the Spartans at Michigan Stadium mired in a three-game losing streak and do not yet know whether starting quarterback Steven Threet will play. Threet re-injured his throwing elbow midway through the third quarter Saturday. He returned in the fourth quarter. His availability will be a key factor in whether the Wolverines back up Graham's prediction, which no other players stated so boldly, although they agreed with his optimistic sentiments. "Michigan State is a rival game, and I've never lost to Michigan State since I've been here," linebacker John Thompson said. "We're not going in there with a defeatist attitude that Michigan State is a better team." Michigan State (6-2, 3-1) enters the game much like Michigan - smarting from a lopsided defeat, 45-7 to Ohio State. The Wolverines have not lost to the Spartans since 2001. Last year, Michigan trailed by 10 points in the fourth quarter before Mario Manningham caught a 31-yard touchdown pass with 2:28 left that gave U-M a 28-24 win in East Lansing. After that comeback, then-Michigan tailback Mike Hart said: "Sometimes you get your little brother excited when you're playing basketball and you let him get the lead. Then you come back and take it from him." The "little brother" comment stuck. And it's one that Graham's guarantee could rekindle. Either way, Graham made it clear the Wolverines are not dejected and are eager to get back onto the football field. "We'll keep fighting, keep working," he said. "We're doing some good things out there. We just need to keep going 100 percent." this one could hurt Wizzle 10-20-2008, 01:18 PM "We'll keep fighting, keep working," he said. "We're doing some good things out there. We just need to keep going 100 percent." that Lions/Wolverines parallel is starting get a little creepy Glenn 10-20-2008, 01:23 PM Pastor Mark and Little Bro gon' lay the wood to Big Bro. I'm thinking MSU 34 UM 10 Wizzle 10-20-2008, 01:25 PM Threet says he's ready to go by John Heuser | The Ann Arbor News Monday October 20, 2008, 12:03 PM University of Michigan quarterback Steven Threet - who missed most of the second half of Saturday's loss to Penn State after re-aggravating an elbow injury - said he'll play against Michigan State. Threet, who spoke to the media Monday, said the elbow, which was first bruised in the loss to Toledo, is improving and shouldn't keep him out of practices the rest of the week. Michigan (2-5, 1-2 Big Ten) is looking to extend an eight-game home winning streak against Michigan State (6-2, 3-1). The Spartans haven't beaten Michigan in Ann Arbor since 1990. Timone 10-20-2008, 01:27 PM 34-22 tMSU Glenn 10-20-2008, 01:28 PM I'd rather they let one of the RBs play QB. "We" need some major trickeration. A nice wishbone offense that never throws the ball might be their only hope. Timone 10-20-2008, 01:30 PM Even if Wil predicts UM to win this one (which I fully expect), he couldn't possibly pick them to blow the Sparties out. Right??? bukdow 10-20-2008, 01:37 PM Well, I appreciate being an option in the poll. And rest assured, I will win because I`m a winner because I just keep fighting and working hard and giving 100%. The Graham comment reeks of desperation and fear. I am sure he was assured he, as a Wolverine, would never be in this situation vis-a-vis MSU. Well, Brandon, you are and its coming. After wetting the bed then getting kicked out of it and made to sleep in the garage by OSU, I think Dantonio will have the team focused and ready to take its frustration out on the most loud-mouthed, pretentious utterly jackass encrusted team in all of college football. The target of many of the posters on this board`s vicarious love and desire for a sense of achievement, the Michigan Wolverines. I believe the game will be tight for the first half, but the realities of UM`s team will surface and they will fade. The offense will put the defense at a near constant disadvantage which will be the diciding factor in the game. MSU will run the ball and run the ball and run the ball, then start opening it up with passing game. UM will come out with a head of steam and then punt, punt, punt, fumble, fumble, get into fights on the sideline, yell expletives back at their fans, fumble, punt and then whimper into the locker-room. At the end of the half, MSU 14 UM 14. At the end of the game, MSU 35 UM 20. Tahoe 10-20-2008, 01:38 PM Well, I appreciate being an option in the poll. What I'm excited for is the verbal (written) exchange between Wilfredo and bukky. *giddy with excitement* I have met a lot of delusional UM coat-tail riders in my life, but Willy, who is currently attending McCain/Palin School of Accounting mind you, takes the cake. Glenn 10-20-2008, 02:25 PM You guys can feel free to continue discussing Wil as much as you want to, he won't read anything that you post. Timone 10-20-2008, 02:25 PM ^ lol Over/Under: 3 posts of bukdownage before Willy says "whatever..." and throws in the towel. bukdow 10-20-2008, 02:30 PM You guys can feel free to continue discussing Wil as much as you want to, he won't read anything that you post. Why won`t he read anything people post? Just out of sheer petulance? Wilfredo Ledezma 10-20-2008, 02:54 PM If Hoyer plays, Michigan wins. Wilfredo Ledezma 10-20-2008, 02:55 PM Why won`t he read anything people post? Just out of sheer petulance? I read posts. I just don't respond to them all the time. Jethro34 10-20-2008, 09:16 PM This is a hard game to read. UM is a mess of inconsistency. There was a time in the season where the 4th quarter was the only time they could do anything with the ball, but recently that changed to the 1st quarter, and they've been consistently horrible on offense in the 2nd and 3rd quarters. I'm convinced they can win this game if they can score more than 21, but that is a ton to ask of this game. If Sheridan plays he'll throw 3 TD's - all of them to Otis Wiley. Meanwhile, MSU is so terribly overrated. They've played two teams and lost to both of them. A win this week wouldn't prove anything either. The conference is such a joke right now and they're opportunistic enough to take advantage. However, they need this game more than UM does. UM needs it if they can kick off a 4 game win streak to get bowl-eligible, but most of the players probably don't see that happening. However, MSU needs it in effort to prove they've moved on from their past. For MSU this game is something to believe in. If Purdue and Wisconsin weren't such suspect winless conference teams, this game could carry a fear of MSU losing out. For UM, this is a rivalry game and of course the players want to win - they do every week. But based on the perspective of the season and the series, this is a recruiting weekend more than anything. umichjenks 10-22-2008, 02:36 PM I think this game comes down to 2 things. Michigan not turning the ball over and our D-Line vs MSU's Offensive Line. I think they will try and run and MSU may have a little success, but I think that our D-Line will win that battle. If Michigan can force MSU to make Hoyer beat us, I think Michigan is in a good position. We cannot continue to play 10-12 yards off of their receivers and keep playing zone coverage. Scott Schaeffer needs to be aggressive in this game and let our athletes play instead of using Lloyd's system of bend, don't break. Put some pressure at the line and mix up your coverages. Hoyer is a terrible quarterback, and if our D-line can get pressure and if Hoyer doesn't throw it towards Morgan trent we will be ok. UM-24 MSU-17 Wilfredo Ledezma 10-22-2008, 03:24 PM Hoyer will keep the Wolverines in the game. WTFchris 10-22-2008, 04:22 PM Until Sheridan puts Michigan out of it. Timone 10-23-2008, 05:11 PM The Big Ten Network's airing the 04 game tonight at 8. Moodini31 10-24-2008, 04:47 PM Wow, the Sparties are obsessed with Michigan. "Michigan is the biggest game of the year," said running back Javon Ringer. "We could lose every game the rest of this year as long as we get this one." Added safety Otis Wiley: "It means more to us than a championship." I think that's going a little far. A win over Michigan means more than a championship. With that said, I'm going to be a homer and say they get neither. M-24 MSU-17 thetwins81 10-24-2008, 06:31 PM THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN 23 Michigan state 17 In a game as sloppy as bukdows mom shags 10-25-2008, 08:09 AM I see this game as being similar to the Notre Dame game (for UM). "Little brother" (which will fire State up) will come out and play great early, but UM will come back to make it seem like a game even though it never really is. State scores in the 4th quarter to put it away. State 31, Michigan 20. Tahoe 10-25-2008, 11:45 AM 21-20 MSU Glenn 10-25-2008, 11:46 AM ^who is the clock operator today? Shaping up to be a nice season in East Lansing. Sidenote, watched the 99 game on BTT earlier this week. What a game that was. Good times watching Plaxico tear it up, dude was a freak back then. bukdow 10-25-2008, 07:03 PM buk, how do you plan on celebrating this momentous victory? Not so much celebrating as much as assimilating. This is the new reality in the Third Coast (what I and Bell`s Brewery like to call the Grand Peninsula). MSU will not only be competitive, but may very well reign supreme. MSU will win again next year. After that, the very good recruiting classes Dantonio has brought in will start to manifest themselves and it will only get harder for the blue and yellow. Brandon Graham, suck it douche. Terrance Taylor you are from the Heights and you are nothing more than a house negro. Not even as good a house negro as Colin Powell. congrats, buckdow. michigan is terrible and msu is better. theres no sugar coating this season. michigan is absolutely terrible, and we'll probably be mediocre next year. msu, on the other hand, is pretty crappy too. its just complete jerkoffs like you might think its something special. your having a mediocre season by big boy standards. as for calling someone a house negro, well thats on you. but if were getting spitefull Seriously though, how can you guys root for this douchebag team/university. when i read that, my thought was 'if i were buckdow i'd kill myself'. note: if 'kill myself' is too mean, replace it with 'attempt a brain transplant' anyway, enjoy the alamo bowl. i think when michigan went last time we considered that season a down year, but its pretty good for you. MoTown 10-25-2008, 11:50 PM Honest question to MSU fans: Does it feel as good beating Michigan this year as it would if they were even respectable, or is a win a win versus Michigan? I think michigan could be a mediocre team if not for the extreme incompetence at qb and safety. threet is just terrible, but sheridan is worse. The safeties couldn't cover a floor with a rug and they can't tackle for shit either. harrison could have snapped his neck on one of the tackles he actually made. I think we can all say this is the worst michigan team in 25 years (as long as I've been following). I can't tell if it is bad defensive play calling or poor safety play, but the number of big plays given up is crushing. I didn't read this entire thread, but I suggest that bukdow grow up and stop with the slave references. it reflects poorly on everyone here. I tend to enjoy a lively discussion, but no one wants to hear (read) a bunch of white guys act like douchebags (no offense ldb). Timone 10-26-2008, 11:46 AM I thought MSU had a great gameplan. Continue to stick with the run even when Ringer was being contained early, and then throw to Blair from the Facts of Life. Genius, I tell ya. Timone 10-26-2008, 11:50 AM Les Miles Got 51 and 52 points scored on his team the last two weeks. bukdow 10-26-2008, 12:53 PM Come on dude, seriously? Don't bring this shit around here anymore. I apologize for going overboard. Although a kid from the Heights trying to be a blueblood is annoying as hell, I will refrain from conveying my annoyance in such a manner in the future. jturbo 10-26-2008, 01:32 PM Honest question to MSU fans: Does it feel as good beating Michigan this year as it would if they were even respectable, or is a win a win versus Michigan? IMO, they have to beat UM no matter what, in any year, the team records are thrown out the window. Does it feel good? Hell yeah it does! I would LOVE if each team could be undefeated and in the top 5 up to the game. I think UM played good, if they played like that all year they would have beat Toledo & Notre Lame. Good win for MSU, a win they HAD to HAVE. Still not cool with the O$U game, but oh well. Fuck it. |
