West Palm Beach Congressman Tim Mahoney (D-FL), whose predecessor resigned in the wake of a sex scandal, agreed to a $121,000 payment to a former mistress who worked on his staff and was threatening to sue him, according to current and former members of his staff who have been briefed on the settlement, which involved Mahoney and his campaign committee.

Friends of Allen told ABC News that Allen sought to break off the affair when she learned Mahoney was allegedly involved in other extra-marital relationships at the same time.

Her friends say she told them Mahoney threatened that ending the relationship could cost her the job.

"You work at my pleasure," Congressman Mahoney told Allen on a January 20, 2008 telephone call that was recorded and played for Mahoney staffers. ABC News was provided a copy. Click here to hear the tape.

"If you do the job that I think you should do, you get to keep your job. Whenever I don't feel like you're doing your job, then you lose your job," Mahoney can be heard telling Allen.

"And guess what? The only person that matters is guess who? Me. You understand that. That is how life really is. That is how it works," Mahoney says on the call.

"You're fired," Mahoney tells her. "Do you hear me? Don't tell me whether it's correct or not."

Allen says, "Tell me why else I'm fired."

"There is no why else," Mahoney responds.

Later, Allen says, "You're firing me for other reasons. You don't, you're not man enough to say it. So why don't you say it."

The portion of the tape provided to ABC News cuts off when the two begin a profanity-laced argument.

In a February letter to Mahoney, Coleman alleged sexual harassment, intimidation, humiliation and charged that the Congressman's behavior masked a "dark and depraved personality," according to people who have seen the letter.

Following a day-long mediation session in March, Mahoney agreed to a settlement, staffers said.

Mahoney reportedly insisted that Allen destroy all audio and video recordings of a sexual nature, they said.

These guys are about as loyal to their wives as rock stars.

Anybody want to guess what percentage of major league elected officials have extra marital affairs?

We'll never know, of course, but it's got to be a significant %

It's sad to see, really. Character reflects leadership.

It always seems Dems=Sex scandals, Rep=Money scandals.

There are exceptions, but in this case, I'd have to say I'm more of a Dem.

Just another prominent democrat committing adultery...whats new?

The Republicans have an adulterer on the top of the 2008 presidential ticket. But I don't intend this to be a partisan thread, or limited to American politics. (Italy used to be so good for that shit!)

I know, what McCain did was dispicable too.

John Edwards get's chastised for it, and McCain got a free pass.

What the fuck?

Actually, I shouldn't say 'dispicable'. I've never been married, so I don't know what it's like to be stuck with somebody who gets less attractive each day for the rest of my life.

I'm sure I'll be tempted...when my time comes.

If you find someone less attractive everyday you shouldn't marry them.

Oh I don't know, my favorite scandals are the "NO DUDE I AM TOTALLY NOT GAY (except on weekends)" scandals. Someone made a list of gay scandals a while ago and that list was way larger than I imagined it would be, and this particular list was only Republicans.

I think it's safe to say that "lack of judgment" is a bi-partisan trait.

Barney's biggest sex scandal was the prostitute who lived with him, but that's way old news.

The scandal with the dude in Florida grows:

The FBI is also looking into whether Mahoney helped Martin County secure a $3.4 million reimbursement from the Federal Emergency Management Agency for hurricane damage in exchange for sex with a county official in 2007, the federal law enforcement official said.

The funds were approved late last year. A Martin County news release at the time noted ''Congressman Tim Mahoney was instrumental'' in helping secure the funds.
That's using your instrument...

if obama wins, i hope he'll insist on much more transparency in both the executive and legislative branches. throw all the douchebags in jail. make it bipartisan, include those currently out of office, and their corporate cronies. our only remaining competitive advantage is a perception that our govt. is less corrupt than others.

I figured this thread would be an antidote to presidential stuff, but we have Katie Couric suddenly asking the candidates about marital infidelity?

Why the roads in Ohio are so good:

Rogue employees at an Ohio Department of Transportation office near Cleveland dished out more than $11 million in contracts to vendors who repaid them with fishing trips, Las Vegas hotel rooms and sex with strippers, an investigative report found yesterday.

"For at least the last decade, ODOT District 12 has been riddled with ethical failures, improper relationships, debauchery and raw criminality," the inspector general said in its report.

The "fraud, corruption and depravity" overtook the Garfield Heights operation, but there's no evidence that it spread to the other 11 ODOT offices, the inspector general's office said. However, the watchdog faulted higher-ups in the agency for failing to catch the alleged fraud.

"Kratochvil's greed was fueled by his infatuation with strippers, on whom he bestowed lavish gifts of jewelry, furniture, appliances and cash. He gave one stripper $4,000 for a breast augmentation; when she balked at going through with the surgery, he allowed her to keep $1,000 of the money as a birthday present.

"He also paid strippers for sexual liaisons, which took place during working hours at an Independence motel and in the back of his minivan inside the ODOT garage," the report said. "One stripper has continued to receive money from Kratochvil by duping him into believing that he is the father of her 4-year-old daughter."

So what do you do after filing papers to become a state Senator? Pay for some pussy, of course!

Sen. James Seymour, a Republican from Woodbine, was charged at 2 p.m. on March 13, 2002, after he called a female prostitute decoy who was working with Des Moines police.

He arranged to meet her on the east side for oral sex and intercourse and handed over $90, according to a police report.

Earlier the same day, Seymour had filed papers to run for the Senate. He was elected eight months later.

The state champion girls volleyball team of Mercy High School in Cincinnati was in the Senate chamber recently to receive a resolution recognizing their accomplishment.

They had gathered around State Sen. Eric Kearney, D-Cincinnati, causing fellow Sen. Steve Stivers, R-Columbus, to comment that Kearney “attracts all the attractive women.”

Reminded that he had just returned from his honeymoon after marrying the former Karen Tabor two weeks earlier, Stivers backpedaled.

Michigan hasn't had a good sex scandal since Stabenow's hubby and Kwame's sex texting. I think the only current political 'scandal' we have is that Carey Torrice is a hottie. I'm feeling cheated.
