View Full Version : Rip on Flip
In the spirit of Sheed on Flip, it seems like the malcontents are speaking up.
Pistons' Hamilton is a happy camper (http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20081001/SPORTS0102/810010427/1127)

AUBURN HILLS -- For most of last season, Richard Hamilton was not his usual self. He was moody off the court -- at least with the media -- and at times couldn't contain his frustration on it, which was evidenced by his career-high 15 technical fouls.
There was speculation he was distracted by the birth of his son, which happened right before the season-opener. That, he says, wasn't it.
"I had a son, which was one of the greatest times of my life," Hamilton said Wednesday. "That was not a disappointment. Nothing off the court was a disappointment."
So, what was?
"I was disappointed at the way Flip (Saunders) did things, that was the frustrating thing about it," he said.
Hamilton wouldn't get into specifics, but his major point of contention with Saunders was that he didn't hold all players accountable for their actions.
"Players like to be challenged and they want discipline, even when they fight at times," coach Michael Curry said. "Rip was frustrated because he didn't feel that everybody was being held accountable. Our goal as a coaching staff this year is to do a better job holding everybody accountable every day."
Hamilton has been a happy camper thus far and is eager to turn the page on last season.
"I don't want to talk about (Saunders), either," he said. "It's a new season and I am glad MC is the coach. You can't look to the past. I am glad to move on and focus on the season ahead of us."

Wilfredo Ledezma 10-01-2008, 10:17 PM As much as I'd like to, I find it hard to believe that Flip was the biggest reason we lost to Boston.
Joe Asberry 10-01-2008, 11:15 PM players always whine about the coach, i'd bet ya someone will whine about Curry next season because he benched that player or sth, either the coach is too tough and too strict or he's too easy going...
The more they speak about Flip the more it sounds like NBA players are like children in that they like to have their boundaries set and test those boundaries on occasion.

This would be the complaints I'd want to hear.

And they are, you become a millionaire before you turn 21 w/o even earning the check yet, in most cases your growth will be stunted.

Chris.

Exactly. The more I hear from this team, the more I realize that what they actually need is an NCAA coach. And I guess that's why LB was so successful with them - they are a bunch of grown men acting like your average college kid (that is to say, retarded).
Glenn 10-02-2008, 12:27 PM I'm anxiously awaiting the "Cheick on Flip" thread.
Black Dynamite 10-02-2008, 09:31 PM I'm not anxious for anybody on anybody....thats gay.

MoTown 10-02-2008, 10:40 PM I was waiting for that comment.
Tahoe 10-02-2008, 10:46 PM That wasn't a Political Forum type of lol.
MoTown 10-02-2008, 10:49 PM I was actually referring to Gutz' comment.
But I liked your LOL as well, Tahoe.
Tahoe 10-02-2008, 10:51 PM Doh!
Uncle Mxy 10-03-2008, 02:07 PM Dear Flip,
The tall guy fucking you with that mask on wasn't Rip.
Sincerely,
-Tom Wilson
metr0man 10-03-2008, 07:54 PM You know, I spent 3 years railing against Flip, and all the things that were grossly apparent just during his first season about his coaching... and even though the players are echoing my own thoughts, it still rubs me the wrong way to hear them say stuff like that. Take some damn responsibility.
We all thought Flip sucked before you guys started making excuses.
metr0man 10-03-2008, 07:56 PM The more they speak about Flip the more it sounds like NBA players are like children in that they like to have their boundaries set and test those boundaries on occasion.
This is exactly the way it is. It's always been like this. Somehow, some pistons fans got this fantasy in their heads that our players were different, and started subscribing things that coaches are responsible for, to the players.
A coach's attitude, his system, what he emphasizes and pushes and what he doesn't, all of that stuff matters.
If a coach doesn't get on them night in and night out to score inside the paint, they're not going to do it consistently. Same for rebounding, same for everything.
lospistones 10-03-2008, 08:21 PM Who did Flip not hold accountable? Sheed? Because Larry Brown didn't, either.
Black Dynamite 10-04-2008, 12:29 AM Who did Flip not hold accountable? Sheed? Because Larry Brown didn't, either.
Brown didn't blame the players either, in fact he accepted his role as the one to hold blame. He also DID hold his players accountable(calling out Ben Wallace, Billups, and Tayshaun on many occasions), they responded by actually running his plays no questions asked.
even with a perfect roster of accountable pussies would you want flip back?
Wilfredo Ledezma 10-04-2008, 10:54 AM I wonder if Flip not being able to get another NBA coaching job this past offseason speaks to how highly/lowly regarded his coaching is viewed around the league.
I don't even think he was interviewed after he got canned from Detroit.
Uncle Mxy 10-04-2008, 06:57 PM Why would Flip want to get back on that bandwagon right away? He's still getting paid this season. He might want to spend quality time back home.

Pretty much, same thing he did after Minny canned him.
Wilfredo Ledezma 10-04-2008, 09:30 PM He got canned by Minny in mid-season, and he got the Detroit job that very offseason. He never took a year off.
zeebneebV.3 10-05-2008, 06:00 AM well, we will all know how much of a problem flip actually was with the results of this season. Alot of players have been talking, and they know that the ONLY way not to look like an ass, is to win it all, or at the bare minimum to make it back to the finals.
Put up or shut-up time.

During that stretch he never took another job and if he didn't get the detroit job he would have took the year off. It was detroit or bust at that time.
Glenn 10-05-2008, 10:32 AM He'll probably do some TNT or ESPN this season, maybe play some golf, catch some Eddie Money shows at the casinos, you know.
He has even less reason to get his mullet trimmed now, too.

Kenny and Flip? In the SAME studio? [smilie=hyper.gif]

Flip actually did some announcing in 2005 after the Wolves let him go. He was very good, so I wouldn't be surprised at all if ESPN or TNT gives him a look, if he's interested.
