View Full Version : OGT: UM vs. UW

I know many view this as a possible upset game. I don`t think so. Although UM did show some offensive life against ND, UW`s defense is not ND`s defense. As of now, UM is pretty one-dimensional (i.e. the passing game is lacking) and UW is a decent run stopping team. If UW can get pressure on the QB, it could lead to a long day in the form of turnovers for UM.

UM`s defense is coming around and is a fairly sound unit. However, it doesn`t get any support from UM`s offense and UW will run the ball and eat up clock which will, in turn, wear down UM`s defense.

UM is just not good enough on both sides of the ball to win this game. UW 23 UM 13.

I think UM's passing game is better than it gets credit for. In the last game, Threet finally showed some touch, in spite of the fact that he was throwing in the type of rain that contributed to a combined 13 of 49 performance in EL from the QBs, one of whom had completed 21 of 34 the previous week. Don't give MSU's D all the credit for that. The rain was crap.

We'll see if Threet still has good touch on a ball when the rain isn't helping to keep it from going 4 yards over a WR's head. IF that happens, one dimensional isn't true anymore. That's why the game could, potentially, be interesting.

I'm going on Saturday, and for the record, I've never seen UM lose at the Big House.

Of course I've only seen them play Minny, NW, Indiana, and Utah (4 yrs ago)...but still...

I'm a good luck charm!

We'll see how RR wants to attack the big boys from the B10.

If we make a game out of this, it'll be due to RR.

bukdow, Michigan's run defense is 8th in the nation and 1st in the Big Ten.

PJ Hill has never played well Vs. Michigan (5 car, 14 yds last year and 20 car, 54 yds in 2006).

If Wisconsin's gonna "eat up clock" they're going to have to complete some passes.

Tough game to call. Wisconsin has beat up on their usual shit, but they will definitely NOT have any surprises today. Their QB situation is a bit fluid.
I don't know if UM can generate a pass rush against these guys, it hasn't exactly been a stellar group of defensive linemen so far.
UM has shown steady improvement, and they just can't beat themselves.

But yeah, Glenn is prolly right. Wisonsin by twenty.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!

I can't take this much longer. This rebuilding crap SUCKS!

Our offensive line is filled with crap. Threet has no time to do anything, then when he does get a throw off he's back to pre-Notre Dame game massive overthrows.

AND CAN SOMEONE FUCKING RETURN A KICKED BALL WORTH A SHIT?

I didn't think it was going to be this bad, where when our Offense gets back to the line of scrimmage, its considered a success.

And why did the refs blow the whistle on that punt?

Dwayne Wade should play for UM. With the number of turnovers each has, it would be a match made in heaven.

Oh wait, Wade can score too, we need someone that has turnovers and doesn't score.

I think Michigan needs to spend the entire week of practice (and longer if necessary) on how to hang on to the ball. Do nothng else until you KNOW they won't fumble again.

This has been the most inept, incompetent offensive half of football I've ever seen in my life.

Everyone knew Michigan would struggle this season, but you hope to see progress. Michigan has taken some GIANT steps backwards. Granted, Wisconsin has a very good (if not great) defense, but this is ridiculous.

If this keeps up, Michigan may not win another game the rest of the season.

Because you are rebuilding, doesn't mean you have to fumble the ball. I'm not sure what's going on with these guys.

Some game. Glad I could watch it in a living room with Michigan fans this time.

Aside from Michigan winning it Wisconsin should absolutely fire their idiot offensive co-ordinator. What a moron. If he tries to run the ball more at the end of first half and sustain drives and work for touchdowns, Wisconsin's up by over 25 at the half and Michigan's D (great game) would have been even more tired. And with 5 minutes to go, 3 timeouts and the clock stopping every first down he decides to go with 4 receiver sets and long balls (pass-wacky as Espn's TMQ calls it)? His crappy play calling was as much a factor as everything else in this game.

Jethro34
09-27-2008, 08:01 PM
Seriously, had I been just an average fan I promise I would have turned off the game and taken a nap near the end of the 1st half. Instead, I took a shower at halftime, made some nachos, put on a different MICHIGAN shirt (superstition) and enjoyed something I never could have seen coming.

This win just might have been the difference for the entire season. Had the horrible play continued, I was ready to predict that win win MAYBE one or two more games the rest of the year. Now, I'm feeling like we can be at least competitive in all but 2-3 games. We still may not finish at or above .500, depending on injuries or how often we can see the offense we saw in the 2nd half, but the season certainly has new life now. 1-0 in the Big Ten sounds pretty good right now.

My biggest question = is there a reason Wisconsin didn't use Clay more? His first touch went for 46 yards, his 2nd (on the following play) was the only TD the team scored in the first 58 minutes. The box score shows he had one more carry, but I must have missed an injury or other reason why he wouldn't have had more touches.

Greatest football game I've ever been to. The guy next to me left after the 3rd quarter, and the people in front of me left at halftime.

The atmosphere in the 4th was simply electric, perfect weather, and a big time W vs. a top 10 team.

Jonas Mouton was a freak on defense, he made plays all over the place. It's about time he's started to play like the 5 star he was coming out of HS.

After the first half, I was just hoping that u-m would top nd's win total from last year. I had to run and get some stuff from my office after u-m punted at 19-7 and was absolutely shocked to come home and see the celebration after the int return. I'd be surprised if wisc finishes in the top 20, but still a great win. I still think they'll lose by 20+ at osu/psu, but they should at least have at shot at the rest, making 7 wins a possibility. I was never so relieved as to see threet cover up with 2 arms after the 50 yard gallup. i had visions of fumble #15 or whatever it would have been. 7 wins including sparty and the season would be an unmitigated success. it's funny, but i feel like bielema is taking over lloyd's big 10 mantle of turning sure wins into close losses. also, imo i don't think mcguffie is cut out to run up the middle in the b10, at least this year. give it to minor or grady instead, and use mcguffie on the edge. also i think they need to look downfield more since those quick hitters aren't fooling anyone early in the game.

Jethro34
09-28-2008, 08:20 AM
I think McGuffie would be capable if the line was. Most of those attempts up the middle, he was met 2 yards deep by three Badgers. I'm not sure anyone could turn that into positive yardage. I hope our line can improve as much in one year as ND's has.

Also Jethro, Tom said on GBW that Will Campbell was also at the game for an unexpected, unofficial visit with Thomas Gordon. He said that Big Will was decked out in Michigan gear and the win made an impact on him big time...

I mean, with Will seeing how much Mike Martin got to play, and with both Will Johnson & Terrance Taylor graduating, how is this not the perfect fit.

I think he knows it, and the insiders at scout seem to think there's no way in hell he'll pick anybody other than Michigan. Especially since he wants to enroll in January.
