View Full Version : MARINELLI FIRING WATCH
Glenn 09-09-2008, 09:14 AM Do you guys think he'll make it through the whole season?
The other thing is, will WC Ford allow Millen to hire ANOTHER coach? In other words, is Millen's future tied to Marinelli?
MoTown 09-09-2008, 09:32 AM If Marinelli can make it through half of the season, he will be the longest tenured coach of the Millen Era.
Awesome.
WTFchris 09-09-2008, 10:48 AM I don't see a danger of a firing this year (barring a complete disaster season). I think this is his year to show progress. The worst part is you can see how much talent we lack with the shitty high round draft picks. We've got a couple good players but most of them are complete busts.
Tahoe 09-09-2008, 01:12 PM I mean no ill will toward the man, but I sure as hell hope he is fired. But it won't mean a thing if Millen doesn't go.
Tahoe 09-09-2008, 01:19 PM Millen 31-81 record. It feels like 0-infinity.
I read he has the worst 6 years in Lions history.
How much longer can this misery go on. Fire that pos.
WTFchris 09-09-2008, 02:12 PM Yeah, firing Rod is pointless if Millen stays. Crap talent = losses forever.
Wilfredo Ledezma 09-09-2008, 02:25 PM No way he gets canned during the season.
Tahoe 09-09-2008, 04:07 PM Its just crazy that he took the blame again yesterday, saying he needs to teach them how to tackle or some damn thing.
Its mind boggling.

Passive-aggressive.
Glenn 09-09-2008, 04:26 PM Call me crazy, but I do think that Millen's fate is tied to Marinelli, and for that reason alone, he'll probably make it through the season.
In a vacuum, he'd (Hot Rod) be gone by mid-season, IMO.
Tahoe 09-09-2008, 04:30 PM ^ Do you mean if MM wants to talk to Sr about a coaching change that Sr might want to talk to Matty about his performance?
Glenn 09-09-2008, 04:33 PM It's hard to fathom that Millen hasn't done enough to be fired yet, but if he goes to WCF and tells him that he wants to hire ANOTHER new coach and keep paying this one, I think it finally might sink in that there is a problem here.
Timone 09-09-2008, 04:41 PM Is there any way NO can trade us the Saints for the Lions?
Tahoe 09-09-2008, 04:44 PM edited because cuz

I guess the hurricanes are enough....
Zekyl 09-09-2008, 05:26 PM SDB, you know Millen would still fuck up that trade somehow.
And how about we fire the coach and the GM and let Bill Cowher take over both? Can't do any worse.
WTFchris 09-09-2008, 05:42 PM Millen would somehow trade elevations and we'd end up below lake level and drown.
DennyMcLain 09-09-2008, 08:59 PM If he does, I choose Wilford Brimley. He'll make them eat OaTmEaL, so they'll grow healthy and strong, and diabeetus free.
Jethro34 09-09-2008, 09:17 PM They would have to go 2-14 for him to lose his job. As much as they remain the Lions, that isn't going to happen.
Wilfredo Ledezma 09-10-2008, 12:01 AM I think Rod thinks he can be successful with players who have "heart" and "effort". Both of those qualities are A) un-measurable, and B) overrated. At some point, you need to have players who are actually talented, not just "potential projects" like Ikaika Alama-Francis & Jordon Dizon.
Players having the "intangibles" may work in high school and college football, but "leading the league in effort" doesn't seem to be getting us very far here.
I like Rod, but he's just not cut out to be a head coach. He would be a great defensive coordinator, IMO, but his message is obviously something that cannot be translated into an actual NFL lockerroom
