Just to even out the VP love on this board.

here are some quick hitters on Leigh Bodden...

- senator of Delaware (wherever that is) Update: Delaware is on the East Coast, it's always been a blue state, and carries all of 3 electoral votes (which he would've gotten anyway), why didn't he just pick Dennis Kucinich instead, he's a king in Ohio, a legit swing state and a more popular individual than Joe Biden?

- makes Obama look even less experienced

- has nothing compelling to say on domestic issues, at all, which is what voters still care about

- won't help win any swing states, at all

- voting trends: no energy independence, no guns, no legal protection of US troops overseas (despite voting yes on the war), no solvency in Social Security, no SC Justices that follow the constitution, and higher taxes...

- unexciting, bland, and a blowhard

I don't expect this thread to have more than three or four posts. There's just simply not enough to talk about this "Player To Be Named Later" politican.

Biden asks Politician in Wheelchair to "Stand Up"

Sen. Joe Biden offered a good example today of the difficulty of a national presidential campaign. Candidates are rushed from site to site (Biden left Columbia for St. Louis), often hitting more than one state per day. And while mostly sticking to their stump speeches, they try to recognize local politicians and sprinkle their speeches with local references.

Biden slipped a bit during the introductions, through no fault of his own. In introducing local elected officials, from Ninth District Congressional candidate Judy Baker to former Gov. Roger Wilson, Biden tried to give a special recognition to Sen. Chuck Graham of Columbia.

"Chuck, stand up, let the people see you," Biden says. He was a bit chagrined when he realized that Graham uses a wheelchair. He recovered quickly and told the crowd to "stand up for Chuck." The crowd responded with a standing cheer for Graham.

Yeah, I think they need to hold off on her and expose her at the debate.

You don't have to take verbal shots at somebody to expose her, the media's sympathy will ALWAYS side with the woman in those cases. Biden is by far the least popular person on the ticket, so he can't afford to say anything that would stir controversy....

If his goal in the debates is to "expose" Palin, there's no way he'll be able to do it without making it obvious. It's best he be a gentleman and watch what he says...

Fuck a Buckeye!
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/09/19/biden-in-hot-water-with-some-ohioans/

(CNN) — Joe Biden's off-the-cuff remarks on the trail have at times taken the Obama campaign off-message, but the Delaware senator's latest riff just may have landed him in hot water with voters — and die hard football fans — in a key battleground state.

Speaking to members of the University of Delaware football team Friday morning, the Democratic VP candidate said he thinks the Fightin Blue Hens (1-1 this season) could thrash a certain team from Ohio.

"I was out in Ohio," he said while fiddling with a football in his hands. "I told the folks in Ohio that we'd kick Ohio State's ass!" (It remains unclear if Biden actually ever told Ohio voters this.)

Biden, a proud University of Delaware alum, was clearly trying to rally his Division 1-AA team ahead of their match-up with Furman this weekend, but the comments couldn't have come at a worse time for faithful Buckeye fans who saw their team suffer a 35-3 trouncing at the hands of USC last weekend.

The comments also come as polls show the race in Ohio could hardly be tighter: A CNN poll of polls in the Buckeye state shows Obama holding a slim 1 point lead there. Close enough, presumably, that enough angry OSU fans could just make the difference — at least that's what Republicans are hoping.

The state GOP is already attacking the Democratic ticket over the comments

1999 $120
2000 $360
2001 $360
2002 $260
2003 $260
2004 $380
2005 $380
2006 $380
2007 $995

Uncle Mxy

Uhhh... I don't get it. If you don't deduct a lot due to charity, then you're likely paying more in taxes. You put down big dollar amounts on tax returns so you can deduct them and pay less taxes. Biden didn't do that. In other words, Biden's walking the walk when it comes to "pay more taxes".

Of course, you could ding him for not giving a lot to charity. It could well be the case that he does stuff that he chooses not to deduct, or can't easily deduct. Jill Biden biked across Iowa raising money for breast cancer. I don't see a big deduction for that, even though it's charitable in nature.

What's funny is that the sentiment of "rich equals bad" has its roots in stuff associated with today's conservatives. "It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." comes from the Bible. 40-50 years ago, it was the richer Republicans that had the relatively leftist leanings. Contrast with centrist Richard Nixon, whose wife wore "a respectable Republican cloth coat", not a fur coat.

Over the weekend, Democratic Vice Presidential candidate Joe Biden said he is against building any more coal plants in the United States.

According to Obama and Biden's energy plan they support "clean coal" technology and want to subsidize five coal plants on a commercial scale that use carbon capture and sequestration technology.

Biden says ad mocking McCain is 'terrible'

WASHINGTON (AP) — Barack Obama's running mate says a campaign ad that mocked Republican presidential candidate John McCain as an out-of-touch, out-of-date computer illiterate was "terrible" and would not have been done had he known about it.

Obama, McCain's Democratic rival, launched the ad earlier this month, part of an aggressive push to slow McCain's rise in the polls after he chose Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to be his running mate. It included unflattering footage of Sen. McCain at a hearing in the early '80s, wearing giant glasses and an out-of-style suit, interspersed with shots of a disco ball, a clunky phone, an outdated computer and a Rubik's Cube.

"He admits he still doesn't know how to use a computer, can't send an e-mail, still doesn't understand the economy, and favors $200 billion in new tax cuts for corporations, but almost nothing for the middle class," the ad says.

Asked about the negative tone of the campaign, and this ad in particular, during an interview broadcast Monday by the "CBS Evening News," Obama's running mate, Sen. Joe Biden, said he disapproved of it.

"I thought that was terrible, by the way," Biden said.

Asked why it was done, he said: "I didn't know we did it and if I had anything to do with it, we'd have never done it."

Late Monday, Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton issued a statement from Biden. In it, Biden said he "was asked about an ad I'd never seen" and was "reacting merely to press reports."

So after Barack took Biden behind the woodshed, he tries to take back what he said.

Again, what a total dumbfuck!

Actually, Biden's statements on coal are the Obama party line. He got this right, but didn't get the nuance or presentation right when talking in a rush to ecowarrior-grrl in Ohio. Here's the full statement:

Z6FvHs3f48E
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z6FvHs3f48E

Basically, when anyone asks Obama about "new coal plants", his response is "clean coal". He can justify "clean coal" by pointing out that we'll be victimized by the world's dirty coal otherwise and that we're the Saudi Arabia of coal. It is a reasonable argument.

Note that "clean coal" doesn't answer the question of "new coal plants".

What Obama doesn't say in a very direct way is that he's opposed to new coal plants until clean coal improves. Actually, that's not even strictly true. What he wants is to cap coal emissions, so that no matter how many new plants are built, coal emissions are capped to the same level. He wants to use that as part of the carrot-and-stick approach to adoption of clean coal. It turns out that in PRACTICE, this means opposition to new coal plants, as clean coal isn't far enough along to permit a new coal plant to go online without breaking the emissions cap.

Keep hearing talks (even got an e-mail) that they're going to replace Biden on the ticket with Hillary shortly after the VP Debates...

Apparently, the way it would go down is Biden will either say something that's controversial or they will announce that Biden has health issues, in which case he'll step down. Then, shortly after, Obama announces (probably via text message) that he's selected Hillary to be his new VP and the party will be rejuvinated and reunited for the stretch run.

Think it will happen? Personally, I don't.

Joe Biden, the Democratic vice-presidential nominee, has told Americans to expect a “major international crisis” that will present an early test of a Barack Obama administration.

His comments were seized upon by the Republican campaign yesterday to raise fresh doubts about the prepared-ness of Mr Obama to be commander-in-chief.

Speaking at a fundraiser in Seattle on Sunday night, Mr Biden said: “Mark my words, it will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy. The world is looking. We’re about to elect a brilliant 47-year-old senator president of the United States of America. Remember I said it standing here . . . we’re gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy.”

He cited Russia and the Middle East as possible places that may cause problems, as well as the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan – “crawling with al-Qaeda” – as being of particular concern.

Mr Obama would need help and support, Mr Biden suggested, “because it’s not gonna be apparent, initially, that we’re right.” He then spotted the media in the room, “I probably shouldn’t have said all this because it dawned on me that the press is here.”

The major foreign policy crisis happening early on tends to be the case with any new president.

Dubya had 9/11 7 months after inauguration.
Clinton had Black Hawk Down 8 months after inauguration.
Bush Sr. had Tiananmen Square 5 months after inauguration.
Reagan went into the elements leading to Iran-Contra right away.
Carter created his own early foreign crisis with the Panama Canal.
Further back than that, you have Vietnam...

Joe Biden isn't a dumbass, he's just a very clumsy public speaker. Too many years in the Senate. He's used to speaking in front of small crowds, but not large crowds with media attention. If you've spend 1000 years talking to pancake dinners at the Knights of Columbus, you get used to speaking off the cuff.

I remember Bush kept talking about how the economy was declining just after he was elected, and it wasn't. But he made it happen by talking about it every chance he got. Someone will probably pull Biden aside and say, "Hey Joe, why don't you shut the fuck up about terrorist attacks?" and everyone will forget about it.

All presidents have to deal with international crises and we are in the middle of a global economic crisis so I'm not sure we'll even have to wait. In its entirety, I think the statement itself is pretty factual. I think it was stupidly phrased and largely irrelevant to the point he was making.

Can Vice President Joe Biden make a ballroom full of savvy insiders laugh at a time of economic turmoil?

Yes, he can.

Biden, filling in for President Barack Obama at Saturday night’s Gridiron Club dinner, poked fun at Obama’s charismatic persona by explaining that “he couldn’t make it because he’s busy preparing for Easter,” which in fact is still three weeks away.

"He thinks it's about him," Biden dead panned.

In some Beltway circles, Obama’s absence was viewed as a snub of the media elite, since he chose to be ensconced with his family at Camp David only a brief helicopter ride away. Obama is the first president to skip the dinner in his first year in office since Grover Cleveland in 1885, when the journalists’ club was founded.

Biden even came up with an excuse of sorts for Cleveland: “He was married to a 21 year old girl and had better things to do.”

Although newspaper revenues are in free fall, causing Washington bureaus to close at nearly the same pace as the Gridiron stage show’s weekend run, Biden told the fancy-dress audience of 600 guests at the Renaissance Washington hotel that newspapers still have a vital role to play.

“You can’t house break a puppy on the Internet,” he said, citing “Champ,” the Biden family’s newly acquired German Sheppard.

For that matter, as Biden saw it, it wouldn’t hurt for Rahm Emanuel a fellow attendee whose foul mouthed reputation has followed him from Congress to the White House to master some house breaking skills as well.

The walls between his office and that of Obama’s chief of staff “are paper thin,” Biden noted, likening the experience to “listening to ‘Sesame Street’ where every day is brought to you by the letter ‘F.’”

In contrast to some other Democrats, Biden had nice things to say about Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, who departed soon after Tribune Company columnist Doyle McManus portrayed him on stage.

“Tim Geithner is always there when you need money no questions asked,” Biden said.

“We’ve got a plan for a plan to make a plan to plan … a pla aan,” McManus sang.

California Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who was born in Austria, and Michigan Democratic Gov. Jennifer Granholm, who was born in Canada, also spoke after members of the exclusive journalists’ club, dressed in rakish costumes and bolstered by several ringers, mounted skits that lampooned both their political parties.

Although nominally off-the-record, Gridiron dinners have often been demanding auditions for aspiring politicians, including, previously, Obama. But Schwarzenegger’s and Granholm’s foreign births eliminate them as potential presidential candidates.

Biden congratulated Schwarzenegger “on a really great speech,” adding, “I can hardly wait for the English translation.”

For his part, Schwarzenegger alleged that Emanuel “is concerned that some ninth graders are cursing only at the fifth grade level.”

Noting that his marriage ceremony required him to take his wife, former newscaster and Kennedy scion Maria Shriver, “in sickness or in health,” he said, “And being a Democrat is her sickness.”

Granholm asked Schwarzenegger which of his movies had best prepared him to deal with a party now led by radio commentator Rush Limbaugh and Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele.

The choices, she said, are "True Lies" or "Kindergarten Cop."

Imagining a reverse version of "The Dating Game," a show on which she and Schwarzenegger once appeared – albeit separately -- Granholm turned to him and said: “Let's get started, Governor No. 1."

Then she interjected: “And believe me, that’s better than being called ‘Client No. 9.’”

Inside joke: Eliot Spitzer was forced to resign as New York’s governor, shortly after attending last year’s dinner, when court papers cited him as “Client 9” in a call girl ring.

In making light of the financial crisis, several of the journalists’ skits paid heed to the depressed state of their own industry. “Will Twitter for food,” a sign held by a chorus member read.

Dick Cooper, this year’s club president, opened the evening’s festivities by noting that “the newspaper industry and the Obama administration have one thing in common: They’re both deep into deficit spending.” He asked the assembled guests to “please stop by our bake sale in the lobby as you leave.”
Cooper is one of some 35 editors and reporters at the Tribune Company’s Washington Bureau. At the peak, there were a combined 110 staffers working in Washington for print outlets owned by the now-bankrupt newspaper chain.

Although Obama was absent, a coterie of White House aides showed up for the four-hour white tie dinner. In addition to Emanuel, the Democratic speaker at the 2006 dinner, press secretary Robert Gibbs and senior advisor Valerie Jarrett attended.

So did two other governors: Tim Kane (D Va.) and Bill Ritter Jr. (D-Colo.). Four senators also came: Susan Collins (R Maine), Ted Kaufman (D Del.), Amy Klobuchar (D Minn.) and Ben Nelson (D Neb.).
They were joined by a group from the House led by Reps. Chris Van Hollen (D Md.), John Dingell, (D Mich.) and Chet Edwards (D Texas.) Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Anthony Kennedy sat on the dais. (Each year, the club invites all nine Supreme Court justices, but judicial etiquette dictates that only two may accept.)

The U.S. Marine Band, which played as the dinner began, has been associated with the club of 65 active journalists since the time that John Philip Sousa directed the musical activities of both organizations. Gen. James Conway, the Marine Corps’ commandant, came, along with an array of top military brass, all also seated at the dais in their be-medaled dress uniforms.

As the oldest organization of Washington journalists, the club has traditionally inducted newspaper bureau chiefs and columnists. Lately, however, it has opened its membership rolls (and stage roles) to non print media glitterati.

While on stage, one such newly minted inductee, Andrea Mitchell of NBC News, spoofed former Fed chairman Alan Greenspan, her husband and a veteran guest. “Hell,” she quipped, “if I had understood what he was saying, we would have been married 12 years earlier.”

WASHINGTON—In an effort to stimulate discussion, resolve party conflicts, and increase legislative productivity, members of the 111th Congress were once again required to watch an instructional video on bipartisan collaboration this week.

Senators reluctantly watch the section on "non-vitriolic communication."

"Since both House and Senate seem unable or unwilling to compromise on several issues regarding tax money, earmarks, or even seating arrangement, we have decided to take drastic action," Vice President Joe Biden told a special joint session of Congress Monday. "Hopefully this will give you some tools you can use to lend a hand, and maybe an ear, across the aisle."

"And please, no talking on cell phones during the video," Biden added. "I'm looking at you, Senator Reid."

WASHINGTON—According to an incident report filed by the Secret Service, special agents responded early Wednesday morning to a distress call from Number One Observatory Circle and arrived to discover Vice President Joe Biden chained to a bed, spread-eagle, with a pair of cutoff denim shorts around his ankles. Though White House officials have refused to comment, the report indicates that Biden told agents his wallet was missing and detailed its contents as a lucky two-dollar bill, a Sizzler gift card, and a Federal Bikini Inspector badge. After further questioning of the vice president, the Secret Service advised local law enforcement to be on the lookout for a stolen white 1981 Trans Am driven by "this real feisty little firecracker."

WILMINGTON, DE—As the moderate wing of the Democratic Party consolidated its backing around his candidacy, former Vice President Joe Biden reportedly wondered Thursday where all this support was back when he still had a functioning brain. “Here’s the deal: I’m flattered that everyone’s voting for me and the big Democratic donors are giving me a lot of money, but look, I used to have a general idea of what was happening, and it would’ve been nice if they’d shown me that kind of support back then,” said the former vice president, trailing off and staring blankly for a moment before telling reporters that he didn’t win a single state when he ran for the party’s nomination in either 1988 or 2008, when he would have been physically and cognitively prepared for the demands of running in a general election. “I’ve been pandering to people and compromising progressive goals for decades, and now you’re just throwing all this campaign support and money behind me? I was lucid for 70 years! I honestly can’t figure you people out. Why are you just now saying Joe Biden should be president when I can’t hold a train of thought for longer than 10 seconds or talk to anyone on the campaign trail without getting agitated and sticking my finger in their face? What is your deal?” Sources confirmed that Biden also wondered why the Democrats were supporting him now that he wouldn’t be the only candidate in clear mental decline with a history of reactionary policies in the race.

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/10/04/us/politics/biden-covid-test-trump.html

But beyond the public examples of safety precautions, Mr. Biden’s health protocols have remained largely under wraps, with his campaign saying little about what steps it is taking to protect the 77-year-old Democratic nominee.

His aides will not answer questions about whether Mr. Biden is tested daily; they say simply that he is tested “regularly.”

WASHINGTON—Excoriating the presumptive nominee for his lack of action, the national news media turned its ire on the Biden administration Tuesday for its failure to solve the Covid epidemic. “Hopes were high when President-elect Biden won the election but unfortunately at this point he has failed to deliver on his promises to listen to scientists and see the nation through this challenging period,” said CNN anchor John Berman, confirming that thus far, the Democratic nominee had not lobbied Congress or issued any executive actions to address rising hospitalizations or the economic devastation incurred by the virus. “Despite signaling that he would make it a chief priority, Biden and his as-yet-unnamed cabinet officials have acted like deer in the headlights, refusing to put forward any legislation whatsoever despite having at least the House and, pending results, even the Senate in their corner. It’s this type of stalling that just adds more fuel to the fire for Republicans who claim that Democrats get nothing done.” Berman went on to further condemn Biden for his failure to propose meaningful policy solutions to the wave of right-wing violence expected to escalate over the next few months.

WASHINGTON—Signing an executive order that would place the policy into effect immediately, President Joe Biden announced Wednesday that he had authorized the United States military to shoot down any harmful greenhouse gases that enter the nation’s airspace. “With this executive order, I’m directing the military to use all weapons at their disposal to wipe out any carbon emissions attempting to slip into the country’s atmosphere,” said Biden, adding that military intervention was necessary to defeat the hostile fumes threatening the lives of our citizens. “Any carbon dioxide, methane, or fluorinated gases caught entering the air from industrial or agricultural processes will be shot on sight.” At press time, the U.S. had launched airstrikes on several dangerous smog clouds above the nation’s largest cities.

WASHINGTON?In a stirring speech at the U.S. Capitol Thursday morning, President Joe Biden vowed not to forget the lessons of the Jan. 6 riot, urging Americans to hang former Vice President Mike Pence. ?We stand here today to declare that we will not back down in the face of tyranny, and we will gut the traitor Pence limb from limb for the way he turned on President Trump,? said Biden, who spent nearly 10 minutes of his prepared remarks encouraging the crowd to chant ?Hang Mike Pence! Hang Mike Pence!? along with him. ?What can we learn from the events of Jan. 6? The enduring lesson here is that we must drag Mike Pence from his home and string him up from the rafters for all to see. Where was he when his president needed him most? Where was he when the true patriots needed his help to stop the steal? The only way to heal this divided nation is to unite around the shared cause of killing Mike Pence for his many failures as vice president. God bless this country, and God bless you all.? Biden was then seen departing the Capitol with a pistol, vowing to take revenge on Mike Pence himself.

WASHINGTON?In the aftermath of a disastrous night that left Democrats reeling over their candidate for the 2024 election, political analysts confirmed Friday that President Joe Biden could negate his debate performance by pulling a train with a chain clenched between his teeth. ?Our post-debate polling indicates that one of the only way the president can recover from yesterday?s catastrophic evening is by gathering likely voters next to the train tracks and using the sheer power of his jaw and neck muscles to pull a 4,000-ton train,? said Democratic political strategists Thomas Fitzpatrick, who described how the feat of strength in which Biden would hold a steel rope in his mouth and rely solely on his own brawn to move a seven-coach train would go a significant way toward restoring trust in the 81-year-old?s fitness for office. ?There?s no way to spin the president?s evening of rambling answers and unsettling gazes in a positive light for Democrats. The silver lining here is that the party does have options. For example, Biden could also take a cannonball to the stomach or put two women on either end of a pole and lift them way up over his head. Whatever they choose, Democrats should act now to avoid a potential loss in November.? Analysts added that Biden should also wear a striped leotard to show off his physique and convince voters his strength is real.

Reassuring...

EAST HAMPTON, NY?Defending her 81-year-old husband in the wake of his highly criticized debate performance, first lady Jill Biden reportedly assured an audience of Democratic donors Monday that she ?hit[s] that on the daily,? referring to President Joe Biden. ?To any doubters of my husband?s virility, let me just start out by saying that I hit that every single night, and it?s magnificent,? Dr. Biden said at a fundraiser, winking as she held up a special cushion that she claimed she had to sit on during her flight to New York while icing her ?worn out? pelvis. ?No, my husband is not a young man, but his age doesn?t prevent him from regularly pounding the ever-living shit out of me, raw and wet. You may rest assured that our nation?s commander in chief is relaxed and clear-minded each day from having busted so hard the night before. For anyone wondering if Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. is still up to the task of the presidency, I submit as evidence the handprints on my raw red ass, which show the man in the Oval Office is a pure fuck machine capable of making me come again and again and again, the way the leader of the free world should.? Dr. Biden went on to say that the president only stumbled during the debate last week because his mouth was so tired from a night spent ?jowls deep? in her pussy.

Why did he ever bother to tie his own hands by taking a Hunter pardon off the table?
Why do it now instead of at the very end, where it'd get drown out by the inauguration?
Why not issue pardons for everyone on Trump's hit list, so it's not just about Hunter?
