Post stuff about Biden, positive or negative.

Try to stick to facts, if possible.

Biden confronted tragedy five weeks after his first election. In 1972, his first wife, Neilia, and 13-month-old daughter, Naomi, were killed when a tractor-trailer broad-sided her station wagon as she drove home with a family Christmas tree. His sons Beau and Hunt were badly hurt.

He was sworn in from the hospital bedside of one his sons and still won't work on Dec. 18, the date of the accident.

--Biden's middle name is "Robinette"

--

Biden's elder son, Beau, was a partner in the Wilmington law firm of Bifferato, Gentilotti, Biden & Balick, LLC and was elected Attorney General of Delaware in 2006. He is a captain in the Delaware Army National Guard, where he serves in the Judge Advocate General's (JAG) Corps. He is set to be deployed to Iraq in October, 2008.

-- In 1973, at age 30, he became the fifth-youngest U.S. Senator in United States history.

-- Biden wrote the laws that created the nation's "Drug Czar," who oversees and coordinates national drug control policy.

I might get banned, but more likey, nailed to the post for this but if JM gets hit for playing the POW card, then Biden's handlers sure seem to be playing the I lost a son and wife card.

This is what I hate about politics. I would have never mentioned this if it weren't for the left wing sites coming out with the POW Card thing.

Both stories compel thoughts and prayers, but both stories are being used too.

Let me know when Biden responds to a contemporary question with "my wife and daughter died in 1972". Pimping the life stories is common at conventions. "Obama had a single mama" is getting a whole lot of airing at the moment. But it's different when you're using your life story as a crutch to dodge the "hard" questions. It's 2008, not 1968.

Tahoe, I think it's a fair question to ask, but Mxy has pointed out the significant difference, therefore, you are wrong and have learned nothing.

Tahoe is upset because hannity and limbaugh are upset. He has a deep emotional bond with those guys, and lets face it they're upset all the time. i remember when they were bellowing about mccain being the worst gop candidate in history. of course, at some point, most people realize how full of shit these people are. Anyways, let me try to make this simple:

1. Now let's say it is the biggest night of your life and you are introducing yourself to the nation... would you mention the most important event in your life and how it changed you?

2. Now let's say you are on leno, and he asks you how many houses you own, and you don't want to answer that question. would you talk about the most painfrul experience of your life here?

I am trying to help you here tahoe, but you have to think for yourself. just block out the limbaugh and hannity in your head and think about it.

Tahoe's not completely wrong here. Believe me, it's not wrong to be thoroughly nauseated by life stories from politicians and have a negative reaction to them.

Yeah, if Biden plays that card in response to policy questions I will definitely cry foul there. However I agree it's fair game to bring personal life experiences into play at conventions. It's basically an introduction to everyone who the VP candidate is. I would expect to hear about his past.

In fact, I would expect McCain to talk about being a POW at the RNC. I'll probably barf because I've heard it far too much though. It's like the boy who cried wolf. He was in the right calling wolf the last time, but all the previous bogus times make you numb to it going forward.

Biden's first wife's maiden name was Hunter.

They had a son named Hunter.

Their other son, Beau (actually Joe III), has a son named Hunter.

But it seems they might be both playing the sympathy card. So theres really no difference as far as that goes. If the reporter isn't good enough to point out that his POW experience has nothing to do with the question, then shame on them. And I think JM did answer the question after he talked about his POW experience.

But, imo, we should leave these things alone. Let JM play his POW and let Biden play his without questioning them. I honestly believe that neither really want to say these things, but once the handlers get ahold of a candidate that is in a fight in our political system, we lose all scruples or something.

But Biden isn't playing the card when he's introducing himself as the VP candidate. If he responds to a policy question with that, he's playing the card. Biden is framing himself as a character and how the common voter can relate to himself.

I'm not sure how you are comparing one written speech by Biden to dozens of responses to questions (not about that subject at all) by McCain. It's apples and oranges.

My uncle has a saying (about himself) that if you ask him what time it is, he'll tell you how to build a watch. So basically, he'll give you more information about the topic than you wanted to know.

Well, if you ask McCain what time it is he'll tell you how he never knew what time of the day it was as a POW. So instead of providing more information than needed, he derails the topic to a sad story so you don't care what answer he has you're just happy he made it out alive.

Not sure if you've seen the Seinfield episode where they wreck Jerry's car. They make up a story about being chased by thugs and he ends up just being happy they are alive (and that the car doesn't matter). That's what McCain is doing (intentional or not).

Ok, I thought of a way to get out of this one.

The liberal media will ask Joe about his past so he can play his card but they'll never ask JM about his POW experience so he has to introduce it where he can. :)

I don't think he has to introduce it though. Everyone knows he was a POW. If you're too dumb to know that there is no hope of reaching you in politics anyway.
