Three MSU football players face charges
Joe Rexrode
Lansing State Journal

EAST LANSING — Three Michigan State football freshmen are facing misdemeanor charges of failure to obey police.

Safety Charles Burrell, defensive end Cameron Jude and walk-on receiver Mitchell White were cited June 30 for fleeing from campus police when approached and ordered to stop near Snyder Hall, said Ingham County Prosecutor Stuart Dunnings III.

The officers caught up with the players and issued them tickets. They face a maximum penalty of 90 days in jail.

“The officers were on campus investigating a crime that had been reported to them, and they approached (the players), who took off running,” Dunnings said. “When the officers caught up with them, they said they never heard them say ‘Stop!’ But that kind of begs the question of why they ran.”

Dunnings said he is not aware of any other investigations involving the three players.

Jude has a pre-trial hearing Aug. 20 in East Lansing District Court 54-B. White has already had his pre-trial hearing and is due for jury selection on Sept. 9 in 54-B.

Burrell failed to appear in court by July 10 as mandated. A warrant for his arrest was printed on July 22, according to court records, but it has not been issued yet.

MSU associate athletic director John Lewandowski said coach Mark Dantonio does not comment on internal disciplinary matters. All three players have been practicing with the team in fall camp.

Burrell, of Detroit, and Jude, of Chesterfield, Va., are candidates for some playing time this season. White, of Livonia, is the twin brother of scholarship defensive back Myles White.

I THOUGHT THIS ONLY HAPPENS TO DICKROD?

If they can't outrun the police they need to be cut immediately.

I'm shocked that this wasn't reported by the great and almighty Bukdow. It's amazing how he seems to fall short when it comes time to report certain things. However, I'm sure we'll get another thread bashing Michigan from him soon.....................wait on it

BTW Glenn, did you graduate from Michigan State? Are you allowed to report on any Michigan State Football stories? Have you checked in with papa bukdow?

So there's a warrant out for Burrell's arrest, yet Dantonio still welcomes him at practice.

Nice touch.

Sounds like the JLS era all over again.

All three are in trouble for running from campus police. Mainly for being stupid kids. However, if I were Dantonio, these guys would be disciplined and kept a close eye on. Secondly, I would keep Burrell on a short leash. Some of the PSL players seem to have difficulty in staying out of trouble.

Considering RR`s past players` profiles, I think MSU under Damtonio will continue to recruit kids with talent and character, whereas RR will just recruit kids who can operate in his system. RR reminds me so much of JLS. An outside guy that just doesn`t get it.

Glenn made me do it.

You can't seriously think that's the extent of what is going on here. You don't run from the police unless you have a reason to run. And you don't skip your court appearance out of youthful innocence.

Please.

Well, if there is more to it, then I expect Dantonio to deal with it appropriately. I, for one, have had it with NCAA football being nothing more than a holding pen for borderline retarded primates with aggression problems.

I agree that any MSU coach always deserves the benefit of the doubt.

Now for those scoundrels over in AA...

Some people are just scared of police. It's a fact.

Frankly, I don`t think RR has the same upstanding nature and high level of character as Dantonio. I`m sure that is not sufficient reasoning for you, but its how I perceive the two.

In the interest of keeping this forum "fair and balanced"...

Roderick Jenrette (starting safety) and Enrique Shaw (another safety) have been "asked to leave" the MSU football team.

Thought about making it a new thread, but I just couldn't.

What has happened is that Jenrette has been asked to leave the team to attend to some personal matters. Shaw was not asked to leave the team, but rather left of his own accord.

The Jenrette thing sounds weird, but the Shaw thing sounds like the kid realized he was buried in the depth chart and no longer wanted to put forth the time and energy D-I football requires.

In the future, if you are going to keep it "fair and balanced", don`t do it like FOX News.

How is Shaw buried on the depth chart when safeties are dropping like flies in EL?

As far as the "fair and balanced" act, I was just poking you with a stick in hopes that you'd come back with the anticipated "There's a new sheriff in town, and his name is Mark Dantonio" verbiage.

I'll keep trying.

I seem to remember some derisive comments about a certain team and its treatment of black athletes. Now, you propose to subject all psl players at msu to some type of special probation. One can't help but admire the absence of logic and consistency... kudos

Frankly, the game of hopscotch you are playing trying to connect the two issues is pretty impressive.
