Because Glenn doesn't want it discussed in his 2009 thread.

Renteria for Jair and Gorkys is a huge one.

Including Willis in the deal with the Marlins, although I'm not sure who we would have kept or who else we could have gotten if he hadn't been included.

Signing Jacque Jones.

Here are a few more to get you started.

--Trading for Sheffield and giving him an extension.

--Robertson's contract extension ($7m for 2009, $10m in 2010)

--Dontrelle's extension ($10m in 2009, $12m in 2010), this is a seperate mistake than having him included in the trade in the first place

--Trading Denny Bautista isn't looking too hot right now, either

There's more, for sure.

Letting Carlos Pena go?

Alan Trammell?

I don't view letting Pena go as a mistake. The guy obviously wasn't getting it here and who knows what happened to him in Tampa that got his career going. Who did we trade for Sheff?

--Re-signing Todd Jones

--Re-signing Kenny Rogers (this one might not be a concensus mistake)

--Neifi Perez

--Giving Inge 4 years/$24m

Who did we trade for Sheff?

Not so much what we gave up, but what else could that $ have been used for?

--Giving Jose Mesa $2.5m

--Bondo got a 4 year deal, let's see how that works out (TBD)

--Pudge for Fansy (TBD)

--Letting Durbin walk? http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/6371

That Inge deal might end up working out now that he's taking over at catcher if his bat gets going again, which I have very large doubts about.

The biggest problem with that Sheff deal is definitely the cotnract extension. We definitely gave him a year too many, and most people would argue two years too many.

Todd Jones deal wasn't so bad until about half way through this year. He was a rollercoaster but he got the job done most of the time and he was better than our other options due to injuries.

--Not bringing back Percival after his injury - He gave us first dibs but we spurned him and now he's the closer for the first place Rays and our bullpen is a mess.

Ouch, I had no idea Durbin was doing so well this year.

I was in favor of trading for Sheffield at first. When I heard he was on the block I was hoping that we'd be the ones to spring a deal for him. Even when he was a Yankee, I was a fan of his.

My fault?

I don't know that we spurned Percival, did we? i thought they were hoping to bring him in but then all of a sudden he was on the cards, I felt like we got backstabbed on that one, but maybe I missed something.

It all just seemed to go down weird, maybe it was an insurance thing from his old contract?

It looks like not taking prospects for Pudge. Instead he took Fansy.

I didn't mind rolling the dice on the Sheff trade. If he had worked out he improved our lineup more than enough to have made it worth it. Jurgens for Renteria has to be the worst move IMO. The Willis extension is just awful but losing a promising pitcher for a guy who we probably didn't need and had already shown to suck in the AL edges it out.
