Finding the job that is right for you can be stressful and exhausting, which is why it's important to determine what you like to do. Here are some questions you should ask yourself to determine what those wants and needs are:

Do you like computers? Are you creative? Do you enjoy problem solving? What are your thoughts on Zach Randolph (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3531/) and Eddy Curry (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3514/) being able to coexist on the low block?

If you had a strong opinion on that last question, boy, do I have the right job for you (http://nbateamjobs.teamworkonline.com/teamwork/r.cfm?i=19519). Yep. Time to tidy up that resume and buy a blue suit with an orange pocket square, folks: the Knicks are advertising for a "Freelance NBA Writer/Editor."

This individual will be the primary Knicks beat writer for NYKnicks.com, writing previews and recaps for all Knicks regular-season and playoff games. Must be able to attend all home games at Madison Square Garden and write 1-2 feature stories per week in addition to game coverage. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with a superior knowledge of NBA basketball and prior experience covering the sport for a team site or professional media organization. Persons with a background in the public relations or marketing departments of a professional sports team are also encouraged to apply.

Minimum job requirements include a bachelor's degree in journalism, communications or English, strong writing and researching skills, and the ability to make a 50-point loss to the Celtics (http://www.thebasketballjones.net/2007/11/29/oh-the-humanity/) sound exciting. Best of luck.

Mark Cuban’s response
By Marcus
Friday, August 1st, 2008 at 8:53 am in Uncategorized.

I have a story in today’s paper about Nellie winning a $6.3 million judgement over Mark Cuban in court on Thursday. Via email, Cuban granted to my request for a response. It was too late to get in the paper, but his answer is way too interesting not to publish.

Cuban’s response:
“As you wrote in the article, I breached the consulting contract by
withholding 25k dollars rather than immediately informing Nellie that he
was in breach. As a result, I breached first and owe him and am happy to
pay it.

“The good news is that from Nellie’s testimony under oath, I got to find out
the truth of what happened prior to Nellie taking the Warriors job and it
certainly was not what was said publicly.

“It was not something that happened quickly, as was quoted in the press.
Nellie and Chris Mullin were meeting and having discussions about the
Warriors’ draft while he was under contract to the Mavs and we were playing
in the Finals (in the summer of 2006). Nellie and his lawyers had their first conversations
about the coaching job long before he took the job. The list goes on.

“Sometimes finding the truth is expensive. In this case I just have to pay
him what I would have had to pay him anyway and some legal fees, so it
didn’t cost too much. In fact, it was a small price to pay. In any event,
now Warriors fans get to enjoy and appreciate the drama queen that is
Don Nelson.

“Maybe some day I will post the deposition transcripts, they make for
incredibly entertaining reading.”

Josh Howard caught doing 95 mph in race on Business 40

Journal Staff Report
Published: August 1, 2008
Updated: 04:18 pm

NBA star Josh Howard was charged late Thursday with trying to race cars after Winston-Salem police pulled him over on Business 40 near Silas Creek Parkway. Howard was driving 95 mph in a 55 mph zone on Business 40.

Howard, a Winston-Salem native who starred at Wake Forest, was arrested just before midnight and taken to the Magistrate's Office in Forsyth County.

He was charged with speeding, reckless driving and racing. He was released from the magistrate's office on a written promise to appear in court on Sept. 23.

An officer patrolling for speeders on southbound Business 40 and Silas Creek saw a black Lexus and a silver Volkswagen Golf approaching. He pulled over the black Lexus, which Howard was driving, according to Winston-Salem police.

Howard is in Winston-Salem this week for a basketball camp sponsored by his foundation. He was seen at the camp today, but was not available for comment.

The arrest is the latest incident in a rocky few months for Howard. He faced controversy earlier this year over comments he made to an ESPN radio host about marijuana use in the off season.

Stornes steps down from Cavaliers CEO post
by Mary Schmitt Boyer
Thursday July 31, 2008, 7:26 PM

Mark Stornes is enjoying the nights at home and a summer off.

Stornes, who joined the Cavaliers in 1996, resigned as the team's chief executive officer in June. He had served in that capacity since January 1, 2003.

"It was just time," said Stornes, married with four children. "I'm ready to spend nights at home. I was there almost 13 seasons, I didn't really think I'd spend that many years in it. I'm ready to do something else."

Although he declined to talk about his next position, Stornes, a 1983 graduate of Cleveland State who has been active in a number of local professional and charitable organizations, indicated he would remain in the area.

He did express his fondness for the Cavaliers, after working his way up from senior vice president for finance and administration and chief financial officer to executive director of Cavaliers Charities to executive vice president and chief operating officer.

"It's all good," said Stornes, whose executive assistant, Jacquie Kronenberger, also has left the team. "I left after a great 12 1/2 years -- nine years with Gordon [Gund] and 3 1/2 with Dan [Gilbert]. But I'm ready to spend more nights at home and do something else."

Here's a fun little spat between Sarunas Jaskevissdkjscoasicjkm and Prick Carlisle.

Kravitz: Jasikevicius' time with Pacers was 'miserable'

By Bob Kravitz
IndyStar.com

BEIJING -- Watch Sarunas Jasikevicius now. Watch him in this Olympic basketball tournament, playing the style he plays best, working that high pick-and-roll, finding cutters or stepping back and hitting his shots for the unbeaten Lithuanian national team.

This is the player the Indiana Pacers thought they were getting when then-general manager Larry Bird signed him to a three-year, $12 million contract in July 2005. This is the player Jasikevicius thought he would be as he made the move from the Euroleague to the NBA.

It never happened.

A year and a half after Jasikevicius came, he was gone, traded to the Golden State Warriors. Now, the point guard is back in Europe, playing for Greece's Panathinaikos and for Lithuania in international competition.

"I was pretty much miserable (in Indiana)," Jasikevicius said Thursday night after an emotional victory over Russia. "Those were bad times for me. Obviously."

Those were bad times for everybody connected to the Pacers organization. The team was in post-Reggie Miller, post-Brawl meltdown mode, falling apart on the court, off the court and in the stands.

Jasikevicius, whose signing drew great applause from here at the time, had the look of a player who would Super Glue Jamaal Tinsley to the bench and be the selfless leader this mercurial team needed. He could pass. He could shoot the stand-still jumper. Mostly, he could lead.

We never saw it in Indiana. Never saw the game, never saw the passion, never saw anything.

"How could you see it when I was at the end of the bench right next to you?" he asked, laughing.

Jasikevicius doesn't mince words: He blames most of his problems on former Pacers and current Dallas Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle.

"Obviously, the (up-tempo) style of play Rick promised me was never there, the opportunities to play were never there, and the players who were supposed to be gone by the time I came were still around," he said. "Rick did a great false recruiting job on me, like college recruiting where they say, 'If you come here, we promise you the world.'

"But Larry (Bird) being such an honorable man, and (then-president) Donnie (Walsh), too, they hire the coach and let him coach the way he wants. Rick's a half-court man, no question."

In Carlisle's defense, his issue with Jasikevicius was his defense, or the complete lack of the same.

Jasikevicius could generate perimeter offense in the most creative ways -- that was never a question in any league -- but his lack of foot speed made him an easy target for opposing guards. At times, Carlisle, a man-to-man proponent, relented and played a zone when Jasikevicius was on the floor in the hope of protecting his guard.

It should also be pointed out that when Jasikevicius was in Golden State and playing a wide-open European style of game, he still couldn't get off the bench for Don Nelson.

"I don't know that there's any reason to respond,'' Carlisle said later in a telephone interview. "It's all pretty baseless . . . I respect Sarunas' game and his basketball IQ, and that's why the only NBA success he had was with me as a coach."

Jasikevicius played last season for Greece's Panathinaikos and his defensive shortcomings were an issue, according to Ioannis Ntentopoulos, a radio broadcaster for Greek basketball.

"Every game, he had a target on him," Ntentopoulos said. "Teams would come straight at him because they knew of this weakness."

How about the idea that some international players don't fit in the NBA, just as NBA players -- and even NBA all-star teams -- struggle in international play? It's a different game over here. The bigger, trapezoidal lane. The way the games are officiated. Everything.

"I always say, there are 15 to 20 players, you can put them on any team in any league and they're going to dominate," Jasikevicius said. "And then there are average players like myself, you put them in a bad situation, they're going to be destroyed. You put them in a good situation, they're going to be above-average NBA players.

"I know I'm a much better player than I showed over there (in Indiana). I've had good years before and after. It just didn't work out."

That's an understatement. And it wasn't just the fact Jasikevicius couldn't get comfortable, or get playing time, under Carlisle. He showed up in a toxic, agenda-driven locker room in 2005 and was shunned as Bird's golden boy. He acknowledged that some players even froze him out, refused to give him the ball.

"There were a lot of guys (in the Pacers locker room) who were in the last year of their contract, and they didn't like the European boy coming over and getting the money," Jasikevicius said. "Obviously, Fred (Jones), a lot of guys, they weren't happy I was there."

One thing he wanted known, though, was that Stephen Jackson was not among those conspiring against him. "He might have been my best teammate," Jasikevicius said.

Still, it was a mess.

"A sinking ship," Jasikevicius said. "We weren't acting the right way, we weren't playing the right way and you could tell by the people who weren't coming to Conseco (Fieldhouse)."

Now, though, Indiana is in the rear-view mirror. Which, for Jasikevicius, is a good thing.

"If I ever write a book," he said, smiling, "a lot of chapters are going to be about the Pacers."

The NBA is claiming that's the case.

http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2008/aug/17/deal-breaker/

"It has come to our attention that representatives of Hamed Ehadadi, an Iranian basketball player, may be contacting NBA teams to discuss the possibility of signing Mr. Ehadadi to an NBA player contract," the letter says. "We have been advised that a federal statue prohibits a person or organization in the United States from engaging in business dealings with Iranian nationals."

The NBA is applying for a license that would allow NBA teams to negotiate with Ehadadi. Until then, the Grizzlies will not be allowed to proceed with their negotiations.

I think it's a little different with Livan Hernandez because he'd defected to the U.S., as have most Cubans in MLB (either directly or through a third country).

Kevin Duckworth, former Trail Blazer, dies at 44
ESPN.com news services
Updated: August 26, 2008, 10:46 AM ET

Kevin Duckworth, a two-time NBA All-Star who spent the majority of his 12 NBA seasons as the Portland Trail Blazers' center, has died. He was 44.

Duckworth died Monday in Kernville, Ore., near the coastal town of Lincoln City. His death was confirmed by the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office. Duckworth was in town as part of a Trail Blazers group hosting a free kids basketball clinic, Fox 12 reported on its Web site.

The cause of his death was not released Tuesday morning.

The 7-foot Duckworth started at center when the Trail Blazers won Western Conference titles in 1990 and '92. He played in the NBA All-Star Game in 1989 and '91.

He spent 1986-93 with Portland and also played for Washington, Milwaukee and the Los Angeles Clippers.

Duckworth's last season in the league, 1996-97, was spent with the Clippers. He played his college basketball at Eastern Illinois. A second-round draft pick of the San Antonio Spurs in 1986, Duckworth was named the NBA's Most Improved Player in his second year in the league.

Man, that's too bad. He was unstoppable on Sega Genesis (can't remember which game, might have been an early NBA Live).

Tisdale has part of leg amputated to stem bone cancer
Associated Press
Updated: August 27, 2008, 9:07 AM ET

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Former NBA player Wayman Tisdale had part of his right leg amputated Monday because of bone cancer.

Tisdale, 44, revealed on his Web site that the surgery was scheduled for Monday. His wife, Regina, told The Associated Press on Tuesday night the surgery had taken place as planned.

"Everything went well," she said.

Tisdale, a 6-foot-9 Tulsa native who played for Oklahoma before spending 12 seasons in the NBA with the Indiana Pacers, Sacramento Kings and Phoenix Suns, first learned he had a cancerous cyst below his right knee after he broke his leg in a fall at his home in Los Angeles on Feb. 8, 2007.

Tisdale, now an award-winning jazz musician, underwent treatment and later had knee replacement surgery and resumed touring. Tisdale was still undergoing chemotherapy when he told the AP in June that "I feel better than ever. I'm excited. I've got a whole new look on life. I look at life on a whole 'nother radar."

Tisdale told the AP that his latest album, "Rebound," was inspired by his ongoing fight against the cancer.

On his Web site, Tisdale said removing a portion of the leg would be the best way to ensure that the cancer would not return.

"This may sound drastic, but I have put it in God's hands and now have peace, knowing that this is the best way to put this disease in check," he said. "I have complete faith that with the Lord's blessings this surgery will eliminate the cancer from my body and I'll soon be back on the road doing what I do best."

Tisdale said he planned to resume touring in the fall and that he would attend an annual cruise that he hosts.

According to statistics from the National Cancer Institute, about 63 percent of people diagnosed with bone cancer live at least 10 more years.

In 1983, Tisdale became the first freshman to make The Associated Press' first-team All-America list.

Tisdale was also an All-American in 1984 and 1985. He was the Big Eight Conference's player of the year in each of his three seasons with the Sooners and still holds Oklahoma's single-game, season and career scoring records. He played on the U.S. team that won the gold medal in the 1984 Olympic Games.

He went on to average 15.3 points per game during his pro career.

Sources: Warriors' Ellis out at least 3 months because of ankle injury

By Marc Stein
ESPN.com
Updated: August 27, 2008, 2:37 PM ET

The Golden State Warriors won't have Baron Davis or Monta Ellis in their starting lineup on opening night.

In the latest blow during a difficult summer for Golden State, ESPN.com has learned that Ellis -- just awarded one of the biggest pay raises in league history -- will be sidelined at least three months, possibly four, after suffering a severe high ankle sprain in his hometown of Jackson, Miss.

Ellis was scheduled to undergo surgery on his left ankle in Alabama on Wednesday, according to team sources, after he informed the club late last week that he had injured himself working out. More specifics about how Ellis sustained the injury were not immediately available.

Surgery is needed to repair a torn deltoid ligament, sources said, and the foot will need to be immobilized for the first six weeks.

It was less than a month ago that Ellis received a six-year, $66 million contract extension from the Warriors, whose tumultuous offseason began with Davis making a verbal commitment to sign with the Los Angeles Clippers on the very first day of free agency.

The contract calls for Ellis to earn a flat $11 million in each of the next six seasons. He made just $770,610 last season, the final year in a modest three-year deal he received as a second-round pick in 2005.
