we get back Kyle Farnsworth...

I suppose we fill a need, Pudge was playing well, but he's not going to hinder us offensively and Inge is almost just as good defensively...

Wilfredo Ledezma
07-30-2008, 04:39 PM
what sucks is since Pudge was going to be a Type A free agent, if he turned down arbitration, we could've gotten two first rd picks out of him...

but we should still be able to get the same out of Renteria, who will probably be a Type A free agent...

Wilfredo Ledezma

7th- Farnsworth
8th- Zumaya
9th- Rodney

I wonder if the Tigs dare DFA Todd Jones...Fossum could be DFA, or Dolsi could go down since he's having control issues, either way, I'm shocked

Wilfredo Ledezma
07-30-2008, 04:41 PM
damn, washed up or not, I'm going to miss Pudge...

Zekyl

Just Farnsworth? Tell me we got at least a respectable prospect with him. We wouldn't trade a top-5 catcher for just a 7th inning reliever would we?

Wilfredo Ledezma
07-30-2008, 04:43 PM
Farnsworth, 3.65 ERA, 44 IP, 43 K, 17 Walks, 1-2 record, 1 save, and 11 holds

Wilfredo Ledezma
07-30-2008, 04:43 PM
nope, just Farnsworth, the main reason for the trade was to free up some cash...

I like the move for the Yankees, especially since Damaso Marte made Farnsworth expendable

Wilfredo Ledezma
07-30-2008, 04:44 PM
I guess we'll be bringing back Dane Sardinha...

Zekyl
07-30-2008, 04:45 PM
Farnsworth has 43 hits, 43 strikeouts and 18 walks in 44.1 innings this year with a 3.65 ERA. Of the 18 runs he's let in, 11 have been home runs.

Zekyl

Great trade for the Yankees. My roommate will love it I'm sure.

Wilfredo Ledezma
07-30-2008, 04:46 PM
I really don't know if this trade is 'waving the white flag', or 'going for it'...

Pudge was having a solid season, not many catchers hit .295, now that I think about it, I'm surprised all we got was Farnsworth, especially since NYY was so desperate for a catcher, you'd think they'd even have been willing to 'overpay' for a guy like Pudge...

Jethro34

I just saw it on ESPN as well and ran to the computer. I think this is one of those rare deadline deals that is a win-win between two teams that aren't "selling".
Is Farnsworth under contract beyond this season? Anyone?

Wilfredo Ledezma
07-30-2008, 04:48 PM
no, he signed a three year deal in 2006, he's in the final year, so he'll be a FA at years end, perhaps we'll get compensation from him leaving

Zekyl
07-30-2008, 04:48 PM
Not only hitting .295, but still great defensively as well. He may not be Gold Glove now, but he's still pretty damn close. People still fear trying to steal against him and he calls a solid game for his pitchers.

Wilfredo Ledezma
07-30-2008, 04:48 PM
Brandon Inge is on cloud nine.

Zekyl
07-30-2008, 04:49 PM
I'd like this trade a lot more if Farnsworth was going to be here another year or two. Maybe we work out an extension.

By the way, who did we trade him away for?

Wilfredo Ledezma
07-30-2008, 04:49 PM
Be prepared for a mixed reaction amongst fans/media, you know that clubhouse can't be feeling too 'cheery' about losing Pudge, who is like a 'captain' on the team

Bittersweet.

I'm not sure. A minor leaguer, maybe?

Zekyl

I just don't like this deal, mainly because we should have gotten more in return. I texted my roommate and said they just traded Farnsworth for Pudge and he texted back

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha hahahahaha

Yankee fans have to be pleased

FARNSWORTH!!!......FUCKING FARNSWORTH!!!!....WHAT THE FUCK!!!!!!
That guy sucks, what the shit! I CAN'T FUCKING BELIEVE THEY GOT FARNSWORTH AGAIN!! SHIT!! Man, I don't know what to think. What time does the game start? SHIT.

Fuck me running.. All I can say is that I wish we got more... Was today the deadline?

tomorrow's the deadline

Should have gotten Kennedy at least, too.

jturbo
07-30-2008, 05:57 PM
Damn it!! I mean Farnsworth is a F.A after this year and when he was hear in 2005 he didn't even want to re-sign with us. Thats why we traded him for that one guy everyone around here likes. Could have got more, more for next year. Fuck this.

Glenn
07-30-2008, 05:58 PM
I thought he wanted to re-sign but just wanted to much $ for the Tigers?

I thought he was pissed when he was traded to Atlanta for those stiffs.

WTFchris
07-30-2008, 06:00 PM
I'm not shocked we moved Pudge, but I wanted more than what we got. Can we trade those damn Yankees Sheff (they lost Matsui) back and get something real in return?

Glenn
07-30-2008, 06:03 PM
So I guess we're saving about $4m the rest of the year on this (which is why they didn't get more in return), so does that $4m go towards a contributor for this season or does it help offset paying someone to take Renteria?

I suppose they can just use that $4m plus the deals that come off the books (Renteria, Kenny, etc.) to sign someone for next year, too.

jturbo
07-30-2008, 06:05 PM
Well yeah I think your probably right about the $ since thats all any of these bitches care about. That doesn't make me confident he'll take the cash this time, if we even offer it. Plus he sucks balls. He's not any better than what we already have.

WTFchris
07-30-2008, 06:29 PM
hopefully that 4 mil goes into making a run at Texiera next year.

Jethro34
07-30-2008, 06:34 PM
hopefully that 4 mil goes into making a run at Texiera next year.

And Texiera would play.....? Perhaps you're thinking we let Sheff go and therefore Cabrera can be DH? When in reality, my guess is Sheff goes and Thames plays DH, with Joyce being the fulltime LF. Maybe Thames gets the occasional day in the OF when Maggs needs to DH, with Joyce playing RF those days.

Who knows.

Wilfredo Ledezma
07-30-2008, 06:39 PM
next year's free agency, we need to decline Edgar's option, sign a random SS like Eckstein, and throw a Kings ransom at either Ben Sheets or CC...

we need an ace, let Kenny walk...

Glenn
07-30-2008, 07:12 PM
Sheff isn't going anywhere unless the Tigers feel like swallowing the $14m he's owed next year.

Which is another possible use for that $4m we just picked up.

KP43
07-30-2008, 07:29 PM
This just hurts because...

1) Didn't get shit back.

2) Rebirth of the Tigers==Pudge

I'm not gunna lie, I'm really gunna miss the guy. I remember when he signed here and I couldn't believe it. Why the hell would he come here(besides money)? Just watching the game and Pudge's interview. He was talking about when he came they averaged 11,000 a game and when he left they've been sellouts.

I heard on ESPN or some other place that Pudge was unhappy and wanted a trade? Any truth to this? I also saw Farnsworth crying as he packed his locker so we're renting him for the next 2 months.

Glenn

I bet the local taverns are happy about this move.

I guess trading away one of your SStars can hurt but at this point in their careers and with our pitching sucking, I'd take Farnsworth.

Pudge has never been the same since he stopped juicing. It's Barry Bonds fault I'm sure. :VOLCANO:

Marlins made attempt to trade for Pudge

Thursday, July 31, 2008
Posted by Jayson Stark

According to clubs that have spoken with Detroit, Pudge Rodriguez was offered to several teams Wednesday before he was traded to the Yankees. And the one other team that made a serious attempt to deal for him was the Marlins. But they didn't have a veteran back-of-the-bullpen arm to offer. So Detroit chose Kyle Farnsworth over the Marlins' prospect package.

^ I saw the interview with DD yesterday and when asked if trading away Pudge was raising the white flag. He said, if that were the case, he would have taken prospects for Pudge.

Zekyl
07-31-2008, 12:41 PM
I'd have taken prospects for him....

Another important point about swapping Pudge Rodriguez for Farnsworth: The Tigers stand to get a big draft pick after they have offered Farnsworth arbitration and he signs a free-agent deal elsewhere, which is the likely script. The Tigers could not have afforded to offer Pudge arbitration, for fear he would have accepted it. So, the prospect that the Tigers wanted for Rodriguez ends up coming in the form of a juicy draft pick

So far post #52 is the only positive about the trade. "Fansy" has been awful.

Zekyl
08-06-2008, 11:52 AM
#52 us a downer if he doesn't pull his head out of his ass. If he pitches great, we get a high draft pick. If he pitches like shit, we get a lower draft pick.
