I've always debated a fantasy football league but I have no idea how the scoring works and I'd probably be terrible. Still, I may join depending on what kind of turnout you guys get.

Hmm, that's the right password. (I just copied and pasted the invitation email)

Not sure if it is case sensitive or not, but are you using all lower case, no spaces?

In now....not sure what was going on the first time. You may have been right with the case sensitive theory.

It's shaping up to be a great league, right Wizzle?

Is there a way that I can do this without having to do any actual work, like drafting or fixing my roster, but still be able to talk shit to you guys if my team is winning?

I need companionship.

I'll be gone the weekend of the 31st, so I'm debating if I want to be in a league whose draft I cannot be present for. I more often than not hate my team when it's autopicked for me. Something in the defaults with the pre-ranking system seems to screw me - such as when they decide to take a TE because I don't have one yet, even though a solid backup RB that I had ranked highly is still on the board. Thus, you end up with Marcus Pollard instead of Michael Turner. Happened to me once. I'm pretty sure I didn't even have Marcus Pollard anywhere near my rankings.

Wizzle, after the draft, let's talk trades.

What day are you guys doing the draft for this? I may jump in, you'll need someone to kick around relentlessly for humor purposes.

Glenn
08-05-2008, 12:45 PM
Join.

It's set for the Sunday night before the season starts, but we can move it if anybody wants to.

I don't have a problem doing an autopick draft for myself if the time doesn't work for me, since I like to shake up my roster anyways.

Zekyl
08-05-2008, 12:46 PM
Might as well. Autopick would probably do better for me than I would.

Zekyl

Maybe not. Can't seem to get to the site from work.

WTFchris
08-05-2008, 01:45 PM
Autopick sucks on one hand (because you'll end up with 2 kickers and 2 defenses), but on the other hand it does stimulate trades more. When you do a live draft the amount of trade and waiver action is MUCH less because people mostly get who they want.

NEW DRAFT DATE (THIS SUNDAY NIGHT)

Draft Type: Live Draft
Draft Time: Sun Aug 24 9:00pm EDT

Also, we have 10 teams in, so let's close it off there.

WTFchris
08-22-2008, 12:35 PM
I just missed my live draft last night (because I totally forgot about it). I actually like my team though:

Brady
Steve Smith
Roy
Portis
Cooley
Jacobs
Viniterri
Giants D

Driver
Kevin Smith
Stewart
Heap
Rivers

Not too bad for an auto draft.

Glenn

Sorry D's, I went with Sunday night because it was available, because some suggested this weekend and because the week 3 games would be over with and any injuries would be more widely known if we drafted before the week 3 games were over.

I was pretty sure that someone wasn't going to like the choice, but I'll probably be autopicking too, so you won't be alone.

Jethro34

Yeah, it's fine. Not that I should complain since I was the last one in.

Preranking sucks but oh well. At least I have something to do this afternoon at work.

Yeah, my ideal draft would be pick at #1 and end up with LT, Romo, and Colston. Solid foundation there.

WTFchris
08-22-2008, 02:39 PM
I wouldn't mind a pick in the 4-5 range really. I think there's 5 good backs in LT, Peterson, Westbrook, Jackson and Addai. After that it drops off. The worst place to draft is that 6-8 range where you don't want to take a QB/WR and risk not getting your 2nd RB for a long time, or reaching for an OK back that will probably dissapoint you.

D's Nuts
08-22-2008, 03:05 PM
Which is what happened to me last year in 2 leagues.....sucks.

The worst is autopicking 2 kickers and 2 defenses. completely stupid.

WTFchris
08-22-2008, 03:12 PM
you should be able to set a number on the positions so it fills out your roster correctly at the end.

It may not matter anyways. I only got one kicker and one defense with autopick. I did get Cooley and Heap, but that's fine.

Vinny
08-22-2008, 04:37 PM
It used to be that if you removed ALL the kickers from your rankings it wouldn't take one for you, and then you can just take the best one off the waiver wire. You can't leave even one in though or it will take him for you and probably way too early.

I haven't had an autodraft in a couple years though so try it at your own risk, they may have changed the way it does it.

WTFchris
08-22-2008, 05:28 PM
That would work, but you'd have to make sure and get every kicker in the system or you'll end up with inactive ones probably (like FA's not on a roster yet).

D's Nuts
08-22-2008, 05:39 PM
Well I just did it. I sent the prerank to ALL Kickers and then deactivated them. Hope it works.

Wizzle
08-25-2008, 10:15 AM
sorry I missed the draft.....I like my team though (outside of the two kickers)

Glenn
08-25-2008, 11:38 AM
I was online to draft Adrian Peterson, Fast Willie Parker and Big Ben.

I felt pretty good about those.

I popped back on and picked Kitna and Reggie Brown at the tail end of the draft, too.

I got two kickers and the Saints defense even though I moved all of the kickers and all of the defenses to the "do not draft" list.

One of my kickers isn't even on an NFL roster right now (Feely) and one of my WRs is out until October, at least (Kevin Curtis).

I'm not going to just give away guys below market value, though. I'm ready to go to war with these 14 guys.

That last line is in there just to see if anyone is even reading this.

WTFchris
08-25-2008, 11:47 AM
I wanted Brown but you stole him right before I was going to take him.

WTFchris
08-25-2008, 11:58 AM

Jethro34
08-25-2008, 01:27 PM
I was in and out with computer issues. I think I had 4 picks before I got a RB. I probably would have picked someone else over Chad Johnson, but I'll remain hopeful he can be somewhat healthy and plays with purpose. I need a few breaks to go my way in the running game, but with the top QB, arguably the top WR, and the top TE, I may be ok.

micknugget
08-26-2008, 07:32 PM
I used autopick since I wasn't around and ended up with a pretty solid team:

Brees
Westbrook
Reggie Bush
Braylon Edwards
Calvin Johnson
TJ Housh
Dallas Clark

WTFchris
08-26-2008, 08:11 PM
That is a good team. I like it. Too bad I grabbed Duece in the 2nd to last round. It would have been a nice handicap for Bush.

Jethro34
08-27-2008, 03:29 PM
I'm a Bush hater but there are people talking Westbrook with the #2 overall pick, Brees is a top 5 QB statistically, and that's easily the best receiving corp in the league. As long as you don't fuck it up, you may have just autopicked your way to the championship.

WTFchris
08-28-2008, 12:26 PM
I would take Westbrook #2 if I had the pick. Peterson will get hurt at some point this year IMO. I also see the Eagles as a dark horse playoff team. I wanted the 4th or 5th pick in our draft because I could get Jackson or Addai (or maybe even Westbrook) and then pick 3 spots higher in the 2nd round that rolling the dice with Peterson. Alas, I got #6 and had to reach for Barber.

Glenn
08-28-2008, 12:47 PM
Peterson will get hurt at some point this year IMO.
:red anger firey guy:

Vinny
09-02-2008, 01:09 PM
I think I hate the team I drafted last night. 12 teams, I picked 12th.

QB: Warner/Rodgers/Rivers
RB: Jones-Drew/Thomas Jones/Kevin Smith/Jonathan Stewart/Chris Perry
WR: Terrell Owens/Greg Jennings/Anthony Gonzalez/Bobby Engram
TE: Crumpler
K: Crosby
D: Buffalo

WTFchris
09-02-2008, 01:23 PM
I'm not a fan of that either, sorry. I assume you went Jones Drew and TO as your first two picks. If you are in the end of the round you almost have to go RB with your first two picks or you get a marginal starter as your 2nd back. It's hard to say who would have been there but I would have gotten two of these (Portis, LJ, Grant, Jones-Drew). I then would have grabbed two WR's in this crop (Boldin, Plaxico, Roy, Calvin, Jennings, Welker) with my 3rd/4th picks.

After that I'm fuzzy on your draft. I can't figure out who you took in the 5th round. I think maybe Thomas Jones was your 4th (seems about right) but with two RB's early you could opt for a pretty good TE or QB in the 5th before getting depth.

Vinny
09-02-2008, 03:21 PM
Nah, I gotta disagree there. I think I can win with this team, I just hate TO and Warner and T Jones in general. Picking 12th sucks, didn't leave me with too many options. Grant and Portis were gone and I wouldn't touch LJ with a 10 foot pole on that team with that line. I considered Jamal Lewis and McGahee instead of TO but there just seemed to be a lot less question marks with TO. In years past I've always gone double RB but with so few true feature backs any more, the third tier of backs has grown and there seemed to be alot more value in waiting till the 3rd/4th.

I have the most RB depth in the league, though. We start 2 RB and a flex WR/RB, and with 12 teams that means about 30 RBs should start each week. With MJD/Jones/Smith/Perry/Stewart I've got alot of guys getting alot of touches, just not the high end talent I like to have.

There's no TE or QB i'd really want in the 5th, after the top tier on those it's just a jumble of similairly producing players. Why reach for one when you can get one that scores only a point or two less a week 6 rounds later? McNabb and Cutler are the only other QBs (outside of the obvious Brady/Manning/Romo/Brees/Palmer who were all gone before my 3rd pick) I think have a chance to be much better than the guys I have, and even then we're not talking much.

WTFchris
09-02-2008, 03:43 PM
So who did you get in the 5th?

1) Jones-Drew
2) TO
3) Jennings
4) Jones
5) ?

Smith, Stewart, etc are all mid to late round picks in my book. I got them in the 9th and 10th rounds in one draft. I got White, Jones, Duece and Driver in the later rounds from the WTF draft. It seems like you have a lot of those types of guys but only a couple surefire contributors.

Vinny
09-02-2008, 03:59 PM
1.
(12)Maurice Jones-Drew (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/7809)RB2.(13)Terrell Owens (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/3664)WR3.(36)Thomas Jones (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/5036)RB4.(37)Kevin Smith (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/8841)RB5.(60)Chris Perry (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/6785)RB6.(61)Greg Jennings (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/7801)WR7.(84)Jonathan Stewart (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/8790)RB8.(85)Anthony Gonzalez (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/8286)WR9.(108)Kurt Warner (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/4541)QB10.(109)Aaron Rodgers (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/7200)QB11.(132)Alge Crumpler (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/5482)TE12.(133)Philip Rivers (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/6763)QB13.(156)Bobby Engram (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/3512)WR14.(157)Buffalo (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/teams/buf)DEF15.(180)Mason Crosby (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/8447)K16.(181)Michael Pittman (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/4326)RB17.(204)Chris Taylor (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/8101)RB

With 12 teams and up to 3 RB starters, guys like Smith and Perry and Jones are high round picks. Anybody who's going to get the majority of their team's carries doesn't last much past the 4th-5th.

Vinny
09-02-2008, 04:26 PM

I'm contemplating a somewhat radical move for this week.

Kitna over Big Ben?

Ben got his shoulder banged up last week and got pulled because they were crushing Houston. He's being held out of practice, and they have Cleveland this week, which means he could get an early hook again.

Kitna is at home vs. GB.

Am I nuts?

I have Kurt Warner vs. Miami as a plan C, too.

WTFchris
09-10-2008, 10:35 AM
well, GB has a pretty decent defense, so it is risky. Then again if the Lions tackle like last week they'll be down big and throwing a lot.

WTFchris
09-17-2008, 10:21 AM
I didn't accept it. I rejected it. I don't understand why anyone would want Lewis for those two players. Lewis is a solid backup fantasy RB. McFadden has the upside to become an every day start, something Lewis will not be all year. And Colston will be back after not too long.

Wilfredo Ledezma
09-17-2008, 12:29 PM
i know, i dont know what i was thinking, i thought mcfadden was going to see minimum carries after week 1, and colston's out for 8 weeks, so i went ahead and accepted it, thinking Jamal Lewis will rush for 1000 yds..

I could have put up 118 points instead of the 76. LOL

I play against a pissed off winless Godfather, and the player that has everyones attention after his 5 TD outburst has a bye week to forget how to score.

I was down 10 pts to a winless, Mola-led, "Furious Styles" squad with Adrian Peterson on my side for MNF.

I thought it was in the bag.

Tough loss for defending champ to me. He puts up 112 (2nd most this week) and loses. In fact he has the 3rd most total points in the league and has a losing record.

Thanks Roddy White.

I'd trade you Lendale White, but unfortunately I don't really see anything I need from you. My weak spot is an elite TE which you don't have either. The only player I would like from you is Greg Jennigs (for White/Jones and one of my WR's).

I made the mistake of grabing him as a backup and dumping Pennington. Now someone grabbed him and dumped Palmer. So I have no backup QB out there to grab. Who do you guys think I should grab?:

Russell
Ferotte
Garcia

Bulger
Cassell

Those are the top producers now.

EDIT- I'm leaning towards Garcia, with Russell as my #2 option.

I know, I was shocked yesterday to here Tirico say he leads the NFL in TD's. The thing is, since I already have Chris Johnson, I'd be reluctant to play LenDale too.

Pretty sure it's total points Glenn. That's more fair than record, which is more a reflection of opponents on any given week than the individual.

Glenn

That undermines the whole premise of playing in a head to head league, IMO.

If wins mean less than total points, then it should just be rotisserie scoring throughout.

It's most TDs scored by entire roster. (For Yahoo at least...)

Not sure it "undermines" it at all. Weekly games vs. a playoff tiebreaker.

If you want total fairness a head to head is flawed fundamentally to begin with, yes.

Glenn
12-16-2008, 12:08 PM
That's pretty weak, too (unless it's most TDs by your entire roster for the whole year, even guys that you have since cut while they were on your squad).

My firm opinion is if you are playing in a head to head league, the most logical tiebreak is total wins during the season. Even if they used regular season record vs. the same opponent that would be better than this.

[/sour grapes]
