Grand Valley State receiver Eric Fowler didn't get much of a chance to show what he could do on the football field. Fowler was released Wednesday after so the Lions could make room on the roster for free agent kicker/punter Eddie Johnson.

Fowler, who had been in the off-season program with the St. Louis Rams before getting cut, signed with the Lions on Sunday morning. Fowler participated in five practices and did a good job of catching the ball, but he eventually got squeezed out in the numbers game. Fowler became expendable when the Lions claimed waivers on receiver Taye Biddle.
