View Full Version : Sheed for Kaman

:stein:

The question I keep hearing from some of their rivals: Aren't Camby and Chris Kaman too similar (and offensively challenged) to play together?

LAC get:
Rasheed Wallace

Pistons get:
Chris Kaman
Tim Thomas

Why for LA:
See quote above. Sheed gives them an offensive-minded big to pair with Camby, with an expiring contract. They also shed Thomas' contract.

Why for Detroit:
The Pistons get a young, home-grown rebounder and a useful player in Thomas that can back up the 3 and the 4. Dumars had Thomas in for a visit a few years ago when he was a free agent, so he likes him.

I think we'd at LEAST have to throw in Max here, if not a pick. I'd make that trade though.

Kamen/Thomas for Wallace/Maxiell/Minny 2nd (its an early second but still not a first)

According to a report in the New York Post, the Clippers are interested in trading Chris Kaman.

The Bobcats have been active in trade talks to upgrade their club and are reportedly interested.

Sources say, however, that Charlotte has no one of consequence Mike Dunleavy desires.

The teams are believed to be looking for a third team to get involved.

I'd certainly do it.

Sheed hates Dumbleavy and the guy is the GM and coach.

More reason to do it.

This deal would hurt our off-season ability to extend Dice and make a play for Boozer/Bosh so I say pass.

Yeah, I'm not sure about the current viability of this deal, it was posted back in July and things have changed a bit since then.

(Haven't they, TwinCities?)

It would not hurt our ability to sign Bosh. Boozer would be out though. i don't think he'll come here anyway.

I still think that it would hurt our chances to get Bosh. By this I don't mean having enough money to get him but more so by the chance of luring in another superstar that would make the team more appealing for Bosh to sign with.

My thoughts exactly. At the time, I liked it. Now that we have all this potential cap space, I don't want to blow it with a guy like Tim Thomas.

That is a good point too. I would have to think that Bosh would want a solid center next to him that can rebound and play defense so he isn't the lone man patrolling the paint. Would he be less inclined to sign here if we did not have that (Amare and Boozer pass on us)? If so, would you then do this deal because you'd have that complementary center already in place?

I'd like to see us move Sheed and Max for Boozer or Amare right now and extend them. I'm not sure either Utah or Phoenix would do that, unless they feel both are gone regardless and they'd get a solid PF in Max.

Look at it like this. The Clippers have Marcus Camby, who often is injured. How can they then afford to deal Kamen and not get a big man? What's been going on is the Clippers for several months have been trying to pry loose Zach Randolph for some contracts that will expire after next season-Cuttino Mobley and Tim Thomas-since the belief is the Knicks want to continue to clear cap room to make a run at LeBron James. But you also can't be a 15-win team to attract a free agent, and the Knicks have been playing reasonably well thus far with Randolph, so I don't see much happening. The Clippers Tuesday denied the report, which means nothing, though Mike Dunleavy did mention the Bobcats, and it's widely known Larry Brown is trying to offload his roster. One general manager told me he believes Kamen could be gotten because he isn't enough of a star type talent to draw attention, which Clippers' ownership prefers to compete with the Lakers. But the Clippers absolutely would ask for an All-Star caliber big man, preferably a power forward.

Wish we had one of those...

We could have used Kamen last night when GS was playing volleyball at the rim.

Based off this:

BRIEFS: Randolph’s start has enhanced his trade value, with one of the teams that pursued him last summer, the Clippers, interested again. A league source says the Clips are down on center Chris Kaman, but his contract (three more years after this one) doesn’t fit the Knicks’ desire for deals that expire after next season, so another team would be necessary to make something happen.

WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK OF THIS VERSION THAT I JUST WHIPPED UP?

I would do it. I like that deal Glenn. It helps NY clear space for Lebron and they could always deal Thomas as an expiring later too (he's a solid bench guy for a contender needing depth). We'd still have space for Bosh or Amare too. The only issue is we'd have to let AI walk (unless he wanted to sign a one year deal), so our depth next year would be pretty bad at G.

Agreed. Personally, I'd rather keep Amir than Max. Higher ceiling (Max may have already reached his peak) plus Lee does everything Max does.

what about this 3 way:

LAC get:
Z-Bo, there was a rumor out there, Clips still interessed in Z-Bo,

Pistons get:
Chris Kaman

Knicks get:
Amir, Kwame, Tim Thomas
Knicks got rid of Z-Bos contract, i've read they don't want Kamans contract, so they add only guys with 1-2 years left so they can go for Bron in 2010 (if the Knicks buy out Marbury and cut a guy like Anthony Roberson, they could take on 3 players just sending out Z-Bo)

this trade works after Dez.15, cause of Kwame
we need Dice back obvisiously, but we could keep Sheed and his expiring contract

you can add Maxiell going to the Knicks and Lee going to the Pistons too in this deal ;)
but we still would need a 5th bigman, kinda Dale Davis type

Kaman/Dice
Sheed/Max
Prince/Valter
RIP/AA/Acker
AI/Stuck/Bynum

it would make us better now and put us in a good position for the future, we've finally got a good starting Center, put Amare or Bosh next to him, that wouldn't be too shabby!

I'd be very happy with that deal. I guarantee the Knicks aren't going to ship out Lee in that deal just because we include Max. They're pretty high on him you know. I don't even think they'd do it if we included Max and some picks.
