View Full Version : Josh Smith to the D?
Glenn 07-16-2008, 12:22 PM What would you guys deem as a fair trade for a re-signed Smith?
What kind of contract would you give him?
Would Sheed be a good fit back in Atlanta with Woodson?
I'm guessing they wouldn't want Tay, since they would likely re-sign Childress.
WTFchris 07-16-2008, 12:24 PM Tay/Max/1st for Smith/Childress would be cool.
Glenn 07-16-2008, 12:25 PM Tay/Max/1st for Smith/Childress would be cool.
Dream on. The $ wouldn't even be close.
WTFchris 07-16-2008, 12:32 PM I suppose you are right, Smith will probably want something like 5-6 years at 60-70 mil.
How did Law do this year? There could be some sort of Billups/Tay/Max for Smith/Childress/Law deal salary wise.
I liked Law in college, but I'm not sure how he did last year.
Glenn 07-16-2008, 12:33 PM I don't think they'd want Billups, Bibby and JJ. (That would be tough to face, though)
They have to get a center so Horford can play PF, IMO

Well, Bibby and Billups can both play off the ball, so that's not a problem (outside the money invested in those 3). I do think they could get better deals though.
If we traded them Sheed, we'd be drastically undersized. I would immediately want to do a Prince for Okefor swap or something to get back some size (but I don't know why Charlotte would do that).
Glenn 07-16-2008, 12:35 PM I like that Prince for Okafor angle.
You like those 3 way deals, give that one a try.

I'm not sure why they'd want J Rich, Wallace and Prince all at the 2/3 (along with Morrison too).
Maybe taking Morrison's crappy contract would help, but they'd still need some size in Charlotte. I'll give it a shot (but I'm skeptic).
Glenn 07-16-2008, 12:39 PM Maybe Gerald Wallace goes to a 4th team for a big?
WTFchris 07-16-2008, 12:47 PM This is the best I could come up with:
Detroit
Sheed to Atlanta
Prince and Max to Charlotte
Atlanta
Smith to Detroit
Pachulia to Charlotte
Charlotte
Okefor and Morrison to Detroit
conditional pick to Atlanta?
I think Okefor would have to demand a trade though since they become undersized in this deal (relying on May and Pachulia a lot). Sending Wallace for a big would help them.
DrRay11 07-16-2008, 04:47 PM Atlanta doesn't get nearly enough there, IMO. Charlotte's angle is questionable as well...

That's why I said I was skeptic I could come up with a deal.
Glenn 07-17-2008, 09:47 AM I wonder if the Lakers would dangle Odom to Atlanta as part of a Smith S&T?

Kstat 07-19-2008, 01:17 AM I've never heard of such a ridiculous thing as BYC status...
Basically, he can't be traded to the Pistons at all now? The Hawks couldn't even give him to us if they wanted to?
Glenn 07-19-2008, 07:11 AM Significant cap room would be required to make it happen, or a third team with significant cap room.
And the only team left like that is Memphis, and they're not going to use it.
Higherwarrior 07-21-2008, 12:34 PM definitely nothing new. confusing, yes. but not new. lol

WTFchris 07-21-2008, 12:36 PM Here are a couple of my posts from another thread on this:
So the Smith senario is possible, he just counts as 6 mil and we need to add a lot more filler on their end. Probably possible with Speedy Claxton in there. Or possibly with Childress and Pachulia in there.
So we could do:
Tay/Amir for Smith/Claxton
Tay/Amir/Max for Smith/Childress/Pachulia
Picks could be involved to balence things out if need be.
Well, the 2nd deal would give us a SF. Dyess could shift back to 6th man off the bench (I've always thought he fit better with Stuckey anyway on offense):
PG Billups/Stuckey/Bynum
SG RIP/Stuckey/AA
SF Childress/AA/Sharpe
PF Smith/Dyess/Pachulia
C Sheed/Dyess/Samb
That's without using the MLE or any other FA signings. We could still fill out the roster nicely.
The only trick is I think we'd need to be more aggressive moving RIP if we brought in Smith because I think the salaries would get too tight.
Higherwarrior 07-21-2008, 10:32 PM i REALLY don't think they'd do that 2nd deal. childress is more proven than amir and j-max and pachulia almost cancel each other out as far as value goes except zaza can play C. and i don't think they would value prince nearly as high as we do or to put it simply, they wouldn't think he's equal value for smith.
so the trade value-wise looks quite slanted to us.
maybe i'm wrong but i really don't think that deal would be to their liking. plus i've got to think that a re-signed smith AND childress are going to make a lot of money- enough that what we'd be giving up probably doesn't work under the cap. i don't know.
WTFchris 07-21-2008, 11:08 PM They won't do anything unless the players force their hand. They know that nobody can offer more than the MLE, so they'll wait it out. All of the discussion means nothing unless they declare they are not coming back.
Zekyl 07-22-2008, 12:16 AM You've got to remember they're facing losing Childress for nothing if he goes to Europe. Better to get low value than no value for him.
Glenn 07-22-2008, 08:49 AM I wonder what they would/will do if Smith threatens to go to Europe, too?
Glenn 07-22-2008, 02:18 PM Danny (Detroit): Do you think there is any shot of the Pistons acquiring Josh Smith in a sign and trade?
John Hollinger: (2:08 PM ET ) highly doubtful, simply because Smith has very little leverage. And don't say he can go to Greece. A guy in Childress's position can get a competitive offer from Europe, but we've yet to see a club over there make a market-value bid for a player of Smith's caliber.
Jethro34 07-22-2008, 03:44 PM Keith L (Detroit): Are you cuntastic?
John Hollinger: (2:14 PM ET) of course. Knowing that doesn't make you a beat writer, douche. While I'm at it, you should check out my latest rankings. It's too bad Michael Curry is a coach in your town, because his PER is off the charts. Even better than PER MVP Luis Scola.
