Pistons Seek a Swingman: The Pistons are in the process of finding a new swingman and are believed to be close to offer C.J. Miles of the Utah Jazz an offer sheet. Miles is yet another young, athletic player with a nice perimeter offensive game. He's still only 21 years old and has shown flashes of potential in his limited playing time. He could fit in nicely with a Pistons squad hoping to increase their overall athleticism.

That's fine, but we better play him. No Amir situation, thanks.

play him as opposed to.....who?

if we get him both backup SFs are going to be 21 years old. CJ would be the elder statesman of the two.

He's not going to sign a 4th SF, so there won't be a veteran backup.

As for Prince, I very much doubt he will be on this roster by September, and Rip isn't a SF.

I'd prefer the other CJ Miles.

That supposes our 3rd isn't in the D league. And we played a 3 guard loop at the end of the year a few times, but thanks for the tip that Rip isn't a 3.

Beware Darvin Ham.

Joe has a yes man for a coach now. He won't make the same mistake his predecessor did of trying to win games.

Whoever Joe wants to play will play. I'll be surprised if Curry doesn't get the nightly rotations faxed into him nightly by Dumars.

I won't be thrilled adding C.J. Miles, but it's better than Carlos Delfino, IMO.

Think the Jazz will match?

Kstat

anything past 4.5 million, I don't think they match.

and he ain't getting that much. i'd be surprised if he got $3 mil. maybe i'm off but he seems like the type of guy joe would split the MLE for, not give the majority of it to.

so yeah- i would expect the jazz to match. unless we send them a 2nd rounder for 'cash' to persuade them not to match.

Joe's not going to make Miles an offer unless he thinks the Jazz won't match. He's going to have to overpay a bit.

^^ exactly what i was going to say. its not like were going to get anyone else so might as well overpay a bit..

besides, the market dictates. He'd the best option left right now, sadly.

I think as soon as this deal is done, Joe pulls the trigger on a mega-deal.

cj's flashes of potential

dec 22 vs miami 8-14 fgs, 3-6 3's, 1-2 ft's, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 0 turnovers

dec 28 vs LA 7-13 fgs, 2-4 3's, 2-4 ft's, 3 rebounds, 5 assists, 0 turnovers, 2 blocks

march 31 vs washington 12-17 fgs, 4-6 3's, 1-2 fts, 4 rebounds, 5 assists, 0 turnovers, 1 steal.

k, so he never got his minutes consistently, but he can produce numbers if given the minutes. his 3's are pretty solid, ft can be improved but he gets little turnovers. 27, the whole season.

i would like to see what this guy can produce in a detroit uniform.

Hoopsworld... as in no credibilty... no inside scoop... just Hoopsworld... we're talkin' Hoopsworld ... not the real journalist... just Hoopsworld.

They might as well have said Miles Davis will be joining the team.... He had a Jazz background too.

I wonder if this is like an Andray Blatche type deal, he got paid a nice chunk of change despite having done nothing in his NBA career to earn it...

Blatche had way more upside though.

I wonder if the timing of this "report" has anything to do with Alex Acker's injury?

I didn't even hear about Acker's injury. What happened there?

Never, ever hit the reply button in the NBA forum before 10:15. Glenn has a report due every morning at 9:30, drops the kids off at the pool, pours his 3rd cup, then goes striaght to Langlois and Hoopsworld to deliver the kind of cutting edge journalism you deserve.

Well, forget CJ Miles.

He signed an offer sheet with OKC.

Another swing and miss for ol' Joe.

Oklahoma is OK by C.J. Miles
July 19
Salt Lake Tribune

"There won't be anybody questioning C.J. Miles' decision to skip the Rocky Mountain Revue any longer. Now the Jazz's biggest concern is whether Miles will be playing for another team entirely this season. Miles signed a four-year, $15 million contract Friday with Oklahoma City, according to sources. Utah will have seven days to decide about matching the offer sheet and keeping the restricted free-agent guard. "

It's not THAT bad. Amir showed way less than Miles before he got his deal, and they are pretty similar (though Miles got 1 extra year). If you think the kid will be decent, 3.75M per year is nothing.

Jazz matched the offer sheet.

As long as the Jazz had the right to match the four-year, $15 million offer sheet he signed last week with Oklahoma City, C.J. Miles knew he'd better not say any goodbyes to Utah. It turns out the restricted free-agent guard won't be heading anywhere. The Jazz decided Friday to match Oklahoma City's offer to Miles despite the crowd of young guards already on their roster as well as the potential luxury-tax implications.
