View Full Version : Living in Delaware now...
Kstat 07-02-2008, 12:13 PM Been a few days since I've had access to a TV, internet or anything of the sort. I'm resorting to using the public library for now, hopefully I'll have internet back up in another day.
Much different from Detroit. A lot slower, but it's also more relaxed, which is cool.
The %0 sales tax is also a nice touch.
No pro sports teams here, but apparently the state has adopted Philly and Baltimore as their own.
Oddly enough, any eagles fan (1 out of every 2 people I meet) I talk to will look ready to fight me when I say I'm not an Eagles fan, but when I meantion "Lions" all the fight goes out of them and they walk away like I told them I was handicapped or something. They literally will not pick on the Lions here. It's hilarious.
Only downside here is I'm living only a few miles from Dover Speedway, which is a major NASCAR track.
I'll miss the Palace, but I hope to drive out to philly to catch a Pistons game or 2. Maybe a Wizards or Nets game too.
MoTown 07-02-2008, 12:17 PM Glad to see you're enjoying Delaware so far. Are you going to get NBA Access or something along those lines to keep up with the Pistons?
Timone 07-02-2008, 12:29 PM Where in the fuck is Delaware?
Glenn 07-02-2008, 12:30 PM Good luck with the change in environs, Kstat. I don't think anyone can blame you for getting out of dodge.
Why did you move? Is your girl there?
WTFchris 07-02-2008, 01:38 PM Hey, we're in Delaware...

and hour east of baltimore, two hours east of DC, an hour southeast of philly, 2 1/2 hours south of NYC
Glenn 07-03-2008, 08:50 AM Yeah, the blue hens.
Is that their college team too?
Are there really that many blue hens there?

my bad, they're called the blue rocks now...

FYI, the blue hen is a point of pride in Delaware.
http://www.netstate.com/states/symb/birds/de_blue_hen_chicken.htm
It's recounted that the popularity of the "Blue Hen Chicken" goes back over 200 years. It's almost universally agreed that the origination of the "Blue Hen Chicken," as Delaware state bird, was during the Revolutionary War and that the battling ferocity and fearlessness of Delaware soldiers in battle was associated with the Kent County Blue Hen Chickens owned and bred by Captain Jonathan Caldwell. The courage and intensity demonstrated by the Delaware soldiers caused them to be referred to alternately as fighting "gamecocks" and as the "Blue Hen's Chickens."
The blue hen is also associated with misc. retail stores in the area.
Kstat 07-03-2008, 09:07 AM BTW, U-Delaware is in Wilmington, which is in northern Delaware.
I'm living in Dover, which is located in southern Delaware, also home to Delaware state, which is in the same division but much smaller. I think I could name 10 or 11 highschools with bigger football stadiums.
Glenn 07-03-2008, 09:08 AM I remember seeing a feature on ESPN about Delaware vs. Delaware St.
One of them (Delaware St.?) is predominantly a black school and Delaware pretty much refuses to play them in football. (Or something like that)
I think they played each other in the playoffs this year, IIRC.

Yep, all of the above is true.
Delaware state is a very small school. I can see why they got obliterated by U-D in the playoffs 44-7.
Hermy 07-03-2008, 09:14 AM Fuck UD. Go GVSU. You had might as well have moved to Cleveland.

Kstat 07-03-2008, 09:58 PM So far it's the nicest community I've ever been in.
Timone 07-08-2008, 07:31 PM You living in Dover? That's my friend's last name.
Vinny 07-08-2008, 10:01 PM Small world.
Timone 07-08-2008, 10:04 PM His name's Ben, BTW.
geerussell 07-09-2008, 03:46 AM His name's Ben, BTW.
It's this kind of shameless post count padding that will put an asterisk next to your 20,000.
Timone 07-09-2008, 04:15 AM There was an asterisk from the very beginning.
Glenn 07-09-2008, 06:38 AM His name's Ben, BTW.
I laughed.
Glenn 07-24-2009, 01:05 PM And just laughed again.
Timone 07-24-2009, 01:15 PM I am?
I'm taking you off of text alerts player. At least until I get an app that handles all my tweets and stuff separate from my texts.
MoTown 07-24-2009, 01:56 PM LDB=GOAT
Uncle Mxy 10-14-2009, 06:16 AM Kstat, why did you feel the need to give away your Hoff poster when you know Motown would've gone Hofftastic with it for free?
http://itemnotasdescribed.com/2009/10/07/funny-classifieds-free-david-hasselhoff-poster/
MoTown 10-14-2009, 08:47 AM That is one beautiful poster.
MoTown 10-14-2009, 08:56 AM And at least he's giving it away. Cardinal Rule #1 of Hasselhoffology is "Do not attempt to make money off the Hoff. Use the Hoff's power for good."
#2 is "Don't Hassel the Hoff."
I think that should explain how important rule one is.
