His speed allows him to beat his man down the court on a consistent basis ... He has supposedly been timed running a 4.4 in the 40 yard dash ... A hard worker who is very coachable ... Has solid strength and shows a willingness to bang inside ... Likes to face the basket from inside 12 feet ... Has an effective go-to move where he faces up, dribbles left and then shoots over his right shoulder ... Being left-handed helps his cause, as with any lefty, opponents have to adjust ... Shows a solid hook shot ... Raises his level of play in big games, as shown in his big performance against Tyler Hansbrough and UNC earlier this season ... Has shown solid improvement in his rebounding raising his per game average nearly 3 per game to around 9 rpg ... His passing ability has developed in his junior year. When doubled, he does a good job of finding open teammates ... Very durable. Has missed just one game in his college career ... Weaknesses: Despite being an upperclassmen, Plaisted is very inconsistent and at times disappears mentally. He must develop better focus and consistency ... Lacks great back to the basket moves. Has improved in the post, but often relies too heavily on his athleticism, which doesn't work against similarly athletic players ... Despite his great leaping ability, he's not much of a shot blocker. Has short arms and doesn't seem to anticipate shot blocks well ... Small for the center position. Short arms also take away from his ability to rebound with diminished length ... A sub-par free throw shooter. His 55% free throw shooting limits his effectiveness offensively ... Must look to cut down on turnovers ... Glenn 06-27-2008, 04:16 PM :langlois: Trent Plaisted, the player the Pistons picked at 46, had some of his best games against BYU’s best opponents last season. He had 24 points and 17 rebounds against North Carolina, 21 points and 12 rebounds against Louisville. He wasn’t consistently that good, of course, or he would have been a lottery pick, but the Pistons like Plaisted because he is comfortable playing with his back to the basket yet has surprising mobility and athleticism. Plaisted Makes Impression in NBA By Sean Walker - 17 Jul 2008 When Trent Plaisted announced he would not return to BYU to complete his college career with the Cougars, BYU fans were stunned. All hopes of a big run in the NCAA tournament seemed lost. Worse yet, many fans thought Plaisted would never be a contender in the NBA, for all his flaws and weaknesses. If the NBA summer league is worth anything, the 6-foot-11-inch forward may have a solid career with the Detroit Pistons. The magic number for Plaisted is 24. No, it's not the number on his brand new Pistons jersey; it's the average minutes per game he has logged on the court. What's impressive about this 24, however, is that it is third overall in the team's lineup, and first among rookies and free agent hopefuls in Detroit. "Trent's defense is definitely ahead of his offense," Detroit head coach Michael Curry told the Michigan-based Web site, mlive.com. "Pick-and-roll is what our league has gone to now. Your bigs have to be able to get out and move their feet. He already can get up and defend pick-and-rolls, which is the hardest thing to do for a big man right now." In three games in the summer league in Las Vegas, Plaisted has posted stellar numbers for an NBA rookie. Playing his trademark power forward position, the Texas native appears to have already adapted to his new level. Plaisted is averaging four points and three rebounds per game. However, the lull is likely because of the Pistons' latest game against Milwaukee, a 73-59 loss in which Plaisted ran the court for only 15 minutes and posted one rebound and one assist. Before the loss, Plaisted averaged six points and 4.5 rebounds per game. In earlier games against the Clippers and Lakers, both Piston wins, Plaisted has adapted well. In the game against the Lakers on July 11, the ex-Cougar scored 10 points and five rebounds in 23 minutes off the bench. Returning to a form almost forgotten by BYU fans, Plaisted was also 2-for-2 from the stripe. While many players would forget their college experience as soon as possible, Plaisted still remembers the skills and experience from his BYU days. "I came from good coaching where we emphasized good defense," Plaisted told reporters from mlive.com. Some local Detroit reporters are even calling Plaisted "one of Detroit's most consistent players thus far in summer league." All this has gotten Detroit fans talking about a recurring role for the BYU product throughout his rookie season. While a position in the starting rotation may be out of Plaisted's reach, Curry has been impressed by the big man's defensive play. "I like the way he finishes around the basket," Curry told mlive.com. "He's what we call a live body. He does really well defending and going to the rim, offensive and defensive boards." Only time will tell if Plaisted can live up to the expectations thrust on him early. But if the same things from the summer league work out by the beginning of the NBA season, he may be sticking around Detroit for a long time to come. http://newsnet.byu.edu/story.cfm/69044 Atticus771 07-17-2008, 04:48 PM That's funny. Why don't they realize that he has no chance? I'm sure Trent knows that. Higherwarrior 07-17-2008, 05:10 PM understatement of the year, I would say. Slightly optimistic, I would say. http://newsnet.byu.edu/story.cfm/69044 WTFchris 07-17-2008, 05:24 PM If he can't play center here he'll never get any PT to prove himself (barring trades) Zekyl 07-17-2008, 06:14 PM What do they mean "position in the starting rotation may be out of reach"? He's going to Europe. He won't even be on the team this year! bardthebambino 07-17-2008, 06:40 PM http://entrepreneur.typepad.com/photos/uncategorized/2007/12/13/plaisted.jpg OOOOOOO WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! BubblesTheLion 07-18-2008, 12:04 AM I don't know much about the guy except what I saw from that highlight package. He looks comfortable in the paint He is not a robot. They guy moves really well for that size (if that really is his size) If all we got is an athletic post up player, that's one more post up player than we have. Zekyl 07-18-2008, 12:36 AM If all we get is an athetic post up player that can give us 10 minutes a game for a few years, we win. 2nd round pick! Glenn 08-01-2008, 01:02 PM Off to Italy: http://www.heraldextra.com/content/view/274858/163/ Uncle Mxy 08-01-2008, 08:38 PM Bye Lacey! We'll hook up again when you get back. Glenn 01-02-2009, 04:07 PM :mccosky: I've been asked a lot about the two Pistons' draftees who are playing overseas -- Trent Plaisted and Deron Washington. Here is a quick update: Plaisted, a center taken at No. 46, was supposed to play in Italy but he's been sidelined with a back injury. He has done nothing yet except rehab and George David, Pistons director of player personnel, said there was no timetable for his return. So it's looking like a lost season for Plaisted. Glenn 01-02-2009, 04:10 PM :mccosky: Also, here is an update on Plaisted's arms: http://animalmakers.com/Catalog/images/alligator_3201-01.jpg WTFchris 01-02-2009, 04:32 PM that's not funny Zekyl 01-05-2009, 05:47 PM I L'ed OL Glenn 12-14-2009, 03:54 PM Michael (Modiin, Israel): The Pistons need a big man in a big way. Do you think the answer is Trent Plaisted? Is anyone following him in Croatia? Langlois: It’s pretty tough to project Plaisted to the NBA just yet, Michael. As you know, last season was wiped out for him with a back injury. He’s playing with KK Zadar of the Adriatic League in Croatia, which is a level below the top league. He’s averaging 5.0 points and 4.7 rebounds through his first three Eurocup games and 5.1 points and 2.0 rebounds through his first 10 league games. As we’ve seen from the success of Jonas Jerebko and Brandon Jennings, to name two, it’s tough to base NBA futures based on Euro stats. Plaisted has a chance to stick someday because he’s a really active defender, but it would help if he could develop a reliable 15-foot jump shot. I don’t think the Pistons are banking on him to boost next year’s team, necessarily, but they’re monitoring his progress. lol. Uncle Mxy 12-14-2009, 03:58 PM If the answer is Trent Plaisted, you're probably asking the wrong question. Glenn 09-30-2012, 07:40 AM Additionally, five players were invited to camp, all long-shots to make what is already a full roster: Marqus Blakely, Courtney Fortson, Chris Johnson, Trent Plaisted and Hank Thorns.
