Report: Big Ten Network, Comcast to announce deal
by Philip Zaroo | MLive.com Tuesday June 17, 2008, 11:50 AM
The Big Ten Network and Comcast Cablevision are on the verge of announcing that they've reached an agreement that would give customers of the country's biggest cable provider access to the Big Ten Conference's year-old network, according to an article in the Chicago Tribune, citing unnamed sources.
Chicago Tribune, June 15: (http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/cs-080615-big-ten-network-comcast,0,670552.story) Comcast and the BTN are prepared to put nearly two years of bitter negotiations aside to announce a long-term partnership, the Tribune has learned. "For all intents and purposes, it's done," one source close to the negotiations said Sunday.
Technically, it's not done. But sources expect the deal will be completed and unveiled this week.
Wilfredo Ledezma 06-17-2008, 02:40 PM What a joke, about a month ago I changed to WOW! from Comcast, specifically because of the BTN availability...
If only I was a bit more patient...
Glenn 06-17-2008, 02:41 PM Hopefully Charter steps up too, now that Comcast has done all the negotiating work for them.

Tahoe 06-17-2008, 03:15 PM I can't say I've locked on to a bunch of shows on B10, but there are times when the B10 network comes through with some great shows, replays, info, etc.
MoTown 06-17-2008, 03:31 PM Fuck Comcast, I hope they all die.
That is all.

They did you a favor by waiting. Comcast sucks ass. Their commercials are highly decieving BTW. They say they have the largest amount of HD. While that is technically true (because of their on demand movies), they only have about 7-9 HD channels even on the best packages. If you only care about movies then Comcast is good. If you care about actual TV watching it sucks balls, regardless of HD or not. Also their prices suck major balls as well.
Wilfredo Ledezma 06-17-2008, 05:09 PM the Thing I miss about Comcast though is the On Demand! selections are BY FAR better...like on Comcast there were On Demand sections for each channel like Discovery, TBS, History Channel, Bravo, MTV etc...
With WOW it's just movies (at least to my knowledge)
However, the plus about WOW is they give you Starz & Encore whereas with Comcast they just give you Encore...(based on the packages I had)
Both have it's flaws, Comcast is the more 'corrupt' of the two, but they also have been more reputable
Wilfredo Ledezma 06-17-2008, 05:11 PM oh yeah, and one more thing is at least WOW gives you NFL network...
Moodini31 06-17-2008, 11:17 PM That's it...I'm moving to the Detroit area....or I could just buy a dish. Moving to the Detroit area seems like less of a hassle to me.

Too bad Comcast charges you 50 bucks for basic cable. 50 bucks that could be spent on the 200 channels with a dish. I don't know what digital cable costs, but I'm sure you could have the largest package on the Dish with 40 HD channels for the same price of basic digital cable.
And also, my comcast has gone out about 10 times more than my Dish ever did to weather. I'm not sure how you call them reputable. My inlaws have comcast cable modem and it goes out for a few days about once a month. I had comcast cable modem as well and it probably went out about as often. One time it was out for a week and they simply kept telling us they were working on it. Meanwhile I've had SBC Yahoo and Verizon DSL in two different service areas and I think it was out once or twice combined in 3 years. It might not be quite as fast, but it's much more reliable and for most people the speed makes no difference (unless you are a major file sharing person).
Besides, these guys like it:

Wizzle 08-27-2008, 11:41 AM from a Charter press release
Joint Statement from Charter Communications and Big Ten Network
ST. LOUIS & CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 27, 2008
--Charter Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ:CHTR) and the Big Ten Network have reached an agreement-in-principle on terms of a multi-year distribution agreement in which Charter will carry the Big Ten Network and related programming throughout the Big Ten territory, including its systems in Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Northern Illinois. Big Ten Network and Charter are currently working together in an attempt to ensure that the majority of these same systems can launch the network on its expanded basic level of service in time for Saturday's Big Ten college football openers.

Glenn 08-27-2008, 11:50 AM Finally.
Thanks, Wiz.
Jethro34 08-27-2008, 03:27 PM Well, I'll be at Saturday's game so I won't need it yet, but how many of UM's games will really be on the BTN?
ESPN is showing ABC as the carrier for this week, with ESPN the following week, NBC (obviously) for the ND game. Wisconsin is TBA but they won't let that slip through. Toledo may be the first game UM fans wanting to follow their team will need the BTN for.
Jethro34 08-27-2008, 03:50 PM Adding to my earlier thought, this news is a much bigger deal for State fans, and anyone wishing to watch State. Since their 2nd and 3rd games are against crap teams, they won't be covered by other networks. (Anyone who even tries to start an argument about Florida Southern being a good team can save their breath)
I'm thrilled with the news, because it will be especially big for Michigan in the winter, and I'm excited for all the other programming besides just games, but the urgency wasn't there for me yet.
While I'm happy to have the B10 network finally on Comcast, they pushed the National Geographic channel out of the regular channels for it. I still get NG in the livingroom in HD, but I watch it a lot while falling asleep and I'm not paying $10 a month for another box so I can watch NG while I'm falling asleep 2 or 3 nights a week. Fucking Comcast.

Jethro, I found this page yesterday. Check out the programming that we're going to get. The urgency was definitely there for me. They're also constantly playing classic Big Ten games too. Sweeeeeeeeeeeet!

WTFchris 08-28-2008, 12:19 PM Comcast caused me to lag out of two games last night online. Why am I paying 50 bucks a month for a cable modem that lags me out of games that I've never lagged out of on a 1.5 mbps DSL modem?
Glenn 08-29-2008, 10:16 PM I got my BTN today (Charter).
And it's in HD, too.
Moodini31 08-30-2008, 10:15 AM I got my BTN today (Charter).
And it's in HD, too.
Yes sir! Bonus! I didn't expect that either. It's been on every T.V. in my house for the last 2 days straight.
For those of you that aren't getting the game you want, I just discovered by pure luck that I have 4 channels called 'XTRA' that are airing all the BTN games. So if you can't see the game you want you should scroll through all your channels and look for them. Channels 692-695 for me.
