Fool 07-28-2008, 04:20 PM Bye bye Isiah guy. Zekyl 07-28-2008, 04:36 PM Do they want to get rid of any more Isiah draft picks? I can think of one I'd like to take. Uncle Mxy 07-28-2008, 05:54 PM Balkman wouldn't have been bad as a 2nd round pick, but Isiah drafted him way high. That's not Balkman's fault. Glenn 07-28-2008, 07:57 PM Ricky Davis to the Clippers Glenn 07-29-2008, 09:02 AM Fuck. :stein: Okafor, Bobcats agree to 6-year, $72 million deal By Marc Stein ESPN.com Updated: July 29, 2008, 8:47 AM ET The Charlotte Bobcats have reached a six-year, $72 million deal with restricted free agent Emeka Okafor. General manager Rod Higgins confirmed the deal Tuesday. The agreement with Okafor by far represents Charlotte's biggest expenditure on one player as the club readies for its fifth season. Okafor turned down a five-year deal with a similar $12 million annual average before last season, preferring to wait for restricted free agency. Okafor was the Bobcats' first-ever draft choice with the No. 2 overall pick in 2004 and was widely viewed around the league as a prime sign-and-trade candidate, on the premise that the Bobcats wouldn't spend to keep him. Charlotte raised questions about its own interest in retaining the 25-year-old by making what sources say was a five-year contract offer starting at the $5.6 million mid-level exception to veteran center DeSagana Diop early in free agency. But Diop elected to take a similar deal from the Dallas Mavericks, while the Bobcats -- most notably new coach Larry Brown -- kept publicly proclaiming their intention to resist any sign-and-trade interest in Okafor and eventually come to terms with their most accomplished interior force defensively. Several top restricted free agents have endured slow-moving negotiations with their teams -- Atlanta's Josh Smith, Chicago's Luol Deng and Philadelphia's Andre Iguodala chief among them -- in a marketplace where only the Memphis Grizzlies have the salary-cap space to extend a lucrative offer sheet to Okafor and his peers in the restricted class. But Memphis has made it clear that it prefers to save its cap room for the summer of 2009. The only other ways for top restricted free agents to create leverage -- to either secure the level of compensation they desire or force a sign-and-trade -- are by threatening to sign a one-year qualifying offer that would lead to unrestricted free agency in the summer of 2009 or by entertaining lucrative interest from overseas, as Atlanta's Josh Childress did and ultimately accepted from Greek giants Olympiacos. It's believed that Okafor, because his salary on a one-year qualifying basis would still be a healthy $7.1 million, convinced the Bobcats he was serious about going that route. The Bobcats then could have lost Okafor without compensation next summer once he became an unrestricted free agent. Okafor averaged 13.7 points, 10.7 rebounds and 1.7 blocks last season in 33.2 minutes per game but never clicked with coach Sam Vincent, who was fired by team president and former teammate Michael Jordan after just one season. Okafor has already played for Brown on the 2004 U.S. Olympic team and has generated plenty of praise from the bench veteran lately. "I hope that it works out because I was with him a little while and he's a terrific kid," Brown said earlier this month. "He plays a position that's very hard to find. And he's the second pick in the draft. I'm sure we'll do what's right. Hopefully he'll be here." Although he was limited to 26 games in his second NBA season because of a persistent ankle injury, Okafor played all 82 games last season and has averaged a double-double in each of his four seasons in the league. An annual salary of $12 million would be in line with the contract extension 2005's No. 1 overall pick Andrew Bogut received from the Milwaukee Bucks earlier this month. Bogut signed a five-year deal with $60 million with hard-to-reach incentives that, if realized, could take the overall worth of the contract past $70 million. Zekyl 07-29-2008, 09:13 AM There goes that idea. Only 12.3mil$ per season, that's not too bad. Its close enough that we could have done Sheed for him straight up :( Zekyl 07-30-2008, 02:27 PM Wow, Deng just got one hell of a contract. I'm not sure he's worth that much. 11~13 million per year. I guess 11 is kind of understandable, but 13 just seems like too much. Glenn 07-30-2008, 02:33 PM It's odd to see it reported as "$71m over 6 years, but up to $80m possible with incentives". That makes figuring out their yearly cap figure a bit of a challenge. Glenn 07-30-2008, 02:33 PM I also read that the Suns are interested in Carlos Arroyo. If there ever was a perfect fit for him, there it is. Glenn 07-31-2008, 11:41 AM Nocioni for Brad Miller is rumored out there. Also, Robert Traylor is working out for the Lakers. Glenn 07-31-2008, 04:28 PM Hawks sign local favorite Randolph Morris By The Associated Press ATLANTA -- Randolph Morris, who played sparingly with the New York Knicks the past two seasons, signed with the hometown Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday. Morris, who played locally at Landmark Christian High School, signed as a free agent. The 6-foot-11, 250-pound center averaged 2.6 points in 23 games with the Knicks. The Hawks hope Morris can team with Al Horford and Zaza Pachulia to provide more bulk in the middle. ``We can certainly use a player like Randolph, whose addition will give us much needed depth at the center position,'' Hawks coach Mike Woodson said. ``We like what we saw of him during our summer league workouts, and we believe he will continue to develop his skills to become a talented player in our league.'' Glenn 08-01-2008, 09:48 AM http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/chi-01-bulls-bits-chicagoaug01,0,770570.story Andres Nocioni is a prime candidate to be dealt for these reasons: He is a viable rotation player who becomes somewhat superfluous on a roster featuring Deng, as well as Tyrus Thomas and Drew Gooden, and his front-loaded contract decreases in value over the next four seasons. He'd be a nice guy for Joe to get if he wasn't with Chicago. Glenn 08-04-2008, 10:01 AM The signing of Gibson was the first success the Cavs have had in the free-agent market this summer. They continue to negotiate with restricted free-agent Delonte West as well. Reaching deals with those players were among the team's top priorities. Another was to find a perimeter player who could create his own shot, and to that end, the Cavs have at least inquired about the availability of former Cav Flip Murray, who filled in so admirably when Larry Hughes missed 45 games with a fractured finger in the 2005-06 season. Murray started 25 games and averaged 13.5 points a game, fourth best on the team. He played with Detroit and Indiana the past two seasons. Cleveland-based agent Mark Termini acknowledged the Cavaliers' interest in Murray but declined to elaborate. Termini also represents former Cavs Devin Brown and Earl Boykins, both free agents. Zekyl 08-04-2008, 10:13 AM Please, go to Cleveland, do for them what you did for us. Fool 08-04-2008, 11:07 AM It was much more important for the Hawks to sign Morris than Smith. Priorities = straight. Glenn 08-04-2008, 02:26 PM The Cavs have countered the Kwame Brown signing... Cavaliers Sign Tarence Kinsey CLEVELAND, OH - August 4th, 2008 - The Cleveland Cavaliers have signed guard Tarence Kinsey to a contract, Cavaliers General Manager Danny Ferry announced today. Per team and league policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed. Kinsey, 24, split last season with the Memphis Grizzlies and with Fenerbahce Ulker Istanbul of the Turkish Basketball League. In 11 games with Memphis, he averaged 3.6 points on .421 shooting and 1.1 rebounds in 8.7 minutes per game. He averaged 9.2 points in 14 regular season games with Fenerbahce Ulker and posted averages of 8.8 points on .492 shooting and 2.8 rebounds in 12 Euroleague games. “Tarence is a talented young perimeter player that has good length and athleticism,” Ferry said. “He has shown an ability to be an effective player on both ends of the court.” As a rookie in 2006-07, the 6-foot-6 guard played in 48 games (12 starts) with the Grizzlies and averaged 7.7 points on .457 shooting, 2.0 rebounds and 1.1 steals in 20.2 minutes per game. Kinsey, who played all four seasons at the University of South Carolina, averaged 18.8 points on .491 shooting, 4.4 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 2.4 steals in 41.8 minutes per game in the 12 starts with Memphis. Zekyl 08-04-2008, 02:36 PM Looking back, who would make the Grizz trade of Mike Miller and Kevin Love for O.J. Mayo? I know I would rather have Miller and Love than Mayo, personally. Is that really the best they could do with Miller? Wilfredo Ledezma 08-04-2008, 05:58 PM lol at Cavs signed Tarence Kinsey, I wonder if somebody texted the news to LBJ in Bejing... ferry needs to die Wilfredo Ledezma 08-04-2008, 06:00 PM Glen, on the 'confirmed signing list' you forgot a few... Wilfredo Ledezma 08-07-2008, 09:10 AM Iguodala is reportedly holding out for a contract worth about $72 million... If you ask me, he ain't worth half that (Iggy is a lousy shooter, mediocre FT shooter, below average defender and turnover prone)...all of which was made evident after that horrid performance in the playoffs this year... Unfortunately, after signing Brand, Stefanski may not have a choice...pony up! Zekyl 08-07-2008, 10:08 AM Iggy's not getting any offers from anywhere else, so I'd say he doesn't have a whole lot to bargain with. Cross 08-07-2008, 11:10 AM ^yeah and memphis is the only team left with cap space, and i highly doubt theyre giving ai any offers. Glenn 08-08-2008, 09:27 AM I saw that White Chocolate is heading to the Clippers on the bottom line this am Glenn 08-11-2008, 09:48 AM A league source said the Cavs might be pursuing Bucks point guard Mo Williams. All the details aren’t known, but the Cavs, Bucks and Oklahoma City (formerly Seattle) are reportedly involved. Bucks general manager John Hammond has made it known he has no intention of parting with shooting guard Michael Redd, a longtime target of the Cavs. Perhaps Cavs general manager Danny Ferry went for the next best thing. If Williams is headed to the Cavs, however, would Delonte West be included in such a deal? He’s a restricted free agent who has been a regular at Cleveland Clinic Courts for much of the summer. It wouldn’t make any sense to have Williams and West on the same roster since both expects to be starters. If West is involved, though, it would have to be in a sign-and-trade. The Cavs have been embroiled in a contract dispute with West since July 1. Oklahoma City probably wouldn’t want him back. The SuperSonics sent West to the Cavs in a blockbuster trade on Feb. 21. The Sonics drafted UCLA point guard Russell Westbrook in June and already have Luke Ridnour and Earl Watson on their roster. In fact, Oklahoma City might want to dump one of its two backup point guards. The Cavs would have to have reservations about Williams’ bloated contract. He has five years remaining on his deal, including the 2008-09 season, worth more than $43 million. He’ll make $8.4 million this season and owns a player option for 2012-13. For a team trying to clear the deck of salaries, that wouldn’t make sense. When Williams was a free agent in the summer of 2007, the Cavs reportedly made him an offer. However, he re-signed with the Bucks. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound Williams is good, but is he a difference-maker? Would he allow the Cavs to get to another round of the playoffs? Some have questioned how Redd would have fit in with superstar LeBron James. The same questions could be asked about Williams, who is a prolific scorer who is used to getting his shots. He’s shredded the Cavs over the years. He’s not known as being a top defender, even though he boasts quickness and speed. He has appeared in just five career playoff games. He averaged 17.2 points and 6.3 assists and shot 48 percent from the field and 39 percent from behind the 3-point arc last season. Another scenario would be for the Cavs to offer only expiring contracts for Williams. Forward Joe Smith ($4.8 million) and guard Damon Jones ($4.6 million) would get the job done. Ironically, they were teammates in Milwaukee in 2003-04. http://news-herald.townnews.com/articles/2008/08/10/sports/doc489e70ff6f55c301173198.txt Black Dynamite 08-12-2008, 08:10 AM Iguodala is reportedly holding out for a contract worth about $72 million... If you ask me, he ain't worth half that (Iggy is a lousy shooter, mediocre FT shooter, below average defender and turnover prone)...all of which was made evident after that horrid performance in the playoffs this year...! Actually he's a solid defender, dont know what you got below average from. He also shoots 45 percent and averages 2 steals a game. And while the 70 percent range isnt great, he's far from lousy FT shooter. Just sayin is all. I will agree that he's kidding himself on the amount. But his stats warranted a big paycheck in some capacity. Wilfredo Ledezma 08-13-2008, 08:45 AM Iguodala says the reports he got a deal aren't true. and I never said Mo can't score... Cleveland is arguably the most offensively challenged team in East, so if nothing else, this should put their scoring margin in the green again... That should've been an easy indication that would suggest they're scoring would go up, since one of the major flaws on them last year was they were outscored by their opponents in the regular season. Your right about the FG%, I was looking at the wrong thing...he is 48% which is pretty solid. And Iguodala is not a spectacular defender. He's mediocre at best. Put a zone defense on Iggy, and he's useless offensively. Cross 08-13-2008, 09:34 AM yeah but most nba teams arent gonna play a zone, because basically every team has spot up shooters that can hit from 3pt land. Black Dynamite 08-13-2008, 10:01 AM yeah but most nba teams arent gonna play a zone, because basically every team has spot up shooters that can hit from 3pt land. Which is what Iggy does. He's no different than Josh smith, score on the break and hit open jumpers, though he can actually slash and his defense is better than mediocre. It's not lockdown, but it's definitely solid. Again though I'm not sayiong he's great defensively, ust not as bad as you paint him. Though after Wil smashing Mo based of a misread shooting percentage(anybody who has seen him play knows he's an exceptional shooter in general and especially off the dribble, and pushes the break at a high speed which are both things Cleveland needs), i gotta wonder how much he's seen of either guy. Glenn 08-13-2008, 10:33 AM Apparently Wil found out that Iguodala is a Heath Ledger fan. Wilfredo Ledezma 08-13-2008, 10:54 AM yeah but most nba teams arent gonna play a zone, because basically every team has spot up shooters that can hit from 3pt land. Not exactly. Philly was the WORST 3 pt shooting team in the NBA last year, so they're going to be facing a zone defense cosiderably more than most teams. Who on Philly is a true outside threat??? Kareem Rush?? As pathetic as it sounds, he may be their best 3pt shooter and he won't play for more than 5 min per game...if that. Laxation 08-14-2008, 02:15 AM It seems strange how they traded away their 3pt shooter for basically nothing, and now are struggling to find another one. Laxation 08-14-2008, 04:10 AM BTW, AI didn't get paid yet... According to Phil Jasner of the Philadelphia Daily News, reports that forward Andre Iguodala has signed a 6 year, $80 million extension are premature. Jasner received an email response from Sixers GM Ed Stefanski saying that there was "nothing to report from our side." Later, in Los Angeles on vacation, he was interviewed by Tom McCarthy, of the Phillies' broadcast team, during the Phils-Dodgers game. When asked about Iguodala, he said, "Right now we're still negotiating. I hope it comes to fruition, but there's no deal yet.'' Comcast SportsNet is saying that while a deal has been agreed to in principle, it has not yet been finalized and would not be so as of last night. According to the Daily News, there has been speculation that agent Rob Pelinka initially asked for a maximum contract, and the two sides have been negotiating from there. Miles, thought to have career-ending injury, signs with Celtics Associated Press Updated: August 22, 2008, 3:28 PM ET BOSTON -- The Boston Celtics on Friday signed forward Darius Miles, who missed the last two NBA seasons due to microfracture surgery on his right knee. The 6-foot-9, 235-pound Miles was selected in 2000 with the third overall pick in the NBA draft by the Los Angeles Clippers. The last time he played was with Portland in the 2005-2006 season. Portland waived Miles in April after a doctor appointed by the league and the NBA's players' association determined the damage to his knee was severe enough to qualify as a career-ending injury. As you might have seen today, the Daily News (http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/basketball/knicks/2008/09/06/2008-09-06_knicks_shopping_zach_randolph_to_grizzli-2.html) and NY Post (http://www.nypost.com/seven/09072008/sports/knicks/randolph_to_grizzlies_heating_up_127943.htm)have jumped into the pool as the waters start to warm. Walsh would not confirm what Grizzlies beat writer Ronald Tillery reported on his blog last week, that the Grilzzlies want the Knicks to pick up the deferred portion of Randolph's contract. But where there's smoke, there's fire. And, as we reported today, Z-Bo is telling friends that he's expecting to be traded before training camp and the destination he believes it will be is Memphis. Walsh likes the idea of getting Darko Milicic back in the trade because of Milicic's shot-blocking ability He has averaged 1.3 per game in the NBA and he does possess a good shooting touch. Could you play him at the four? Possibly. Could you play him with Eddy Curry? Here and there, maybe, but not often. Randolph's departure could be a major bonus for David Lee, who could move into the starting position at the four. Lee and Curry aren't going to dominate anyone on the defensive end, but Lee's rebounding ability makes up for Randolph's departure. He's not nearly the scorer that Z-Bo is so Lee is aware he has to prove he can make that mid-range, baseline and elbow jumper consistently to be effective. Another option is if Danilo Gallinari proves himself capable, the spot could be his with Wilson Chandler at the three. But that's why we have training camp, kids. Bottom line, Randolph's departure will open up the low blocks for Curry and, whether it's Lee or Gallinari, add another player on the floor who can move the ball on offense. Milicic would likely come in and play the role Jerome James was supposed to play: shot-blocking big who can give you decent minutes and a different look (and not order fried fast food in the locker room before games). Marko Jaric is a big guard who is good in the open floor, has decent fundamentals (which means he'd fit in the D'Antoni system, too) and is a willing defender. Jaric would mostly play a reserve roll, but, again, it adds more of what D'Antoni wants. The Milicic contract works with the 2010 plan because it expires after next season. But Jaric has one more year -- $7,625,000 in 2010-11 -- which the Knicks could try to trade. But, if anything, the trade for Milicic and Jaric at least gives them almost a $10 million savings from the Randolph contract ($17.3 million) on the ledger in 2010-11. As we told here before the weekend, the Knicks didn't want the Randolph trade talk to dominate during Patrick Ewing's Hall of Fame induction. Now that the Hall of Fame ceremonies are over, getting this deal done takes center stage. Stay tuned. Glenn 09-08-2008, 11:03 AM Jaric would mostly play a reserve roll Fucking hacks. Uncle Mxy 09-08-2008, 12:23 PM Milicic would likely come in and play the role Jerome James was supposed to play: overpaid big who can give you 6 fouls in 6 minutes and a new way to make the Knicks look stupid. Fixed. Wilfredo Ledezma 09-12-2008, 04:06 PM - Cavs re-signed Delonte West - Thunder re-signed Robert Swift - Magic signed Mike Wilks (who instantly becomes their best defender) - Bucks invite DerMarr Johnson & Julius Hodge to camp - Pat Garrity retires - Sam Cassell re-signs with Boston - Chris Quinn re-signs with Miami Cross 09-13-2008, 01:04 AM - Cavs re-signed Delonte West - Thunder re-signed Robert Swift - Magic signed Mike Wilks (who instantly becomes their best defender) - Bucks invite DerMarr Johnson & Julius Hodge to camp - Pat Garrity retires - Sam Cassell re-signs with Boston - Chris Quinn re-signs with Miami lol and delonte is so overrated. dude fucking sucks Cross 09-13-2008, 10:09 PM theres a marion and banks for gordon, hughes, and noah deal. that makes both teams better. hmm and the pistons are still staying pat Wilfredo Ledezma 09-13-2008, 11:07 PM ^^trading sheed for marion makes no sense...imo sheeds a better defender, marion is fragile and can't guard anybody over 6'10"... Glenn 09-14-2008, 06:49 AM ^^trading sheed for marion makes no sense...imo sheeds a better defender, marion is fragile and can't guard anybody over 6'10"... But Marion guards everyone under 6'10". Wilfredo Ledezma 09-14-2008, 08:34 PM But Marion guards everyone under 6'10". so can Tayshaun (as long as they aren't named Paul Pierce) We'd be an awfully small team with Marion here, that's for damn sure. If we traded Sheed, KG would destroy us. Zekyl 09-14-2008, 08:42 PM Wouldn't Kwame take care of that problem? mercury 09-14-2008, 09:50 PM Dealing for Marion would give us just about everything Tay does along with better offense and rebounding at SF... we would retain his bird rights... most likely signing him for similar to Tay $'s I'm sure there is a good Market for Tay (re another big). Cross 09-15-2008, 09:50 AM yeah. move marion to the 3 and trade tay for another big. but oh well joe thinks this team with a new coach could have a legit shot..sigh Wilfredo Ledezma 09-15-2008, 10:47 AM you think Miami would bite on a Tay, Amir type package for Marion? then have Shawn play the 3 Cross 09-15-2008, 09:41 PM we would trade our youngest starter out of the core and our future bigman project for a one year rental. I don't think Joe would. If Tay and Amir were both on the last years of their on their contracts I sure as hell woul;d Wilfredo Ledezma 09-15-2008, 10:20 PM but look at the cap room you clear up for the offseason, you can sign two players if you want...(if Rip opts out: which he probably won't after seeing Corey Maggette make that mistake) DrRay11 09-16-2008, 11:33 AM As if it's that easy to sign good free agents... lospistones 09-16-2008, 11:39 AM I would still like a third PG not named Will Bynum... Glenn 09-16-2008, 11:52 AM but look at the cap room you clear up for the offseason, you can sign two players if you want...(if Rip opts out: which he probably won't after seeing Corey Maggette make that mistake) How many rings and all star selections does Corey Maggette have? Wilfredo Ledezma 09-16-2008, 12:21 PM ESPN seems to think theres no way Rip will opt out, because he'll never be able to get more than his 11.9 option for next year, and they said that they think the Pistons will give him a 2 yr extension... Fool 09-16-2008, 12:30 PM Glenn thinks that's horseshit. Glenn 09-16-2008, 12:37 PM I don't think the question is "can he get $11.9m for next year?" it's more likely, "can he get $55m+ for 5 years?". Does he risk injury and play the contract out or does he want security and to get onto the market ASAP? Are there advantages to being on the market in the summer of '09 vs. the summer of '10? Fool would like to make it very simple, he should stay in Detroit, just because, but it's not that simple. WTFchris 09-16-2008, 12:54 PM opt outs can backfire for top FA's because teams often plan to have cap space to try and lure a top FA. if you opt out there are probably less teams prepared to make a run at you. There are two ways to look at RIP. If he waits until 2010 there are a lot of big names. So, do you opt out thinking there won't be money in 2010 out there (with all the big names)? Or do you wait until 2010 and hope a team that missed out on the bigger names makes a run at you? Glenn 09-16-2008, 12:56 PM ^I think that is a factual statement, but I also think that we can safely assume that bad teams generally try to get cap space as quickly as they can. Fool 09-16-2008, 12:57 PM Fool would like to make it very simple, he should stay in Detroit, just because, but it's not that simple. Translation: Fool is skeptical over the high level of alert I (Glenn) place on the issue. He (Rip) will stay in Detroit because no one will pay him more. Glenn 09-16-2008, 01:02 PM I maintain that it is a possibility and that Dumars best be prepared and not caught off guard. You seemingly maintain that it's damn near impossible. There's the disconnect. Fool 09-16-2008, 01:04 PM I maintain that it is a possibility and that Dumars best be prepared and not caught off guard. Translation: I advocated trading all our PGs for a fleet of SGs to replace a guy who hasn't left. I am the disconnect. WTFchris 09-16-2008, 01:04 PM Translation: Fool is skeptical over the high level of alert I (Glenn) place on the issue. He (Rip) will stay in Detroit because no one will pay him more. It depends on what they plan to do to address Sheed. They can't pay both good money with a cheap owner. I'm optimistic, but we've seen economics force Joe's hand before. Fool 09-16-2008, 01:05 PM Sheed should be paid Clipper money, or Nugget money, etc. Glenn 09-16-2008, 01:22 PM Translation: I advocated trading all our PGs for a fleet of SGs to replace a guy who hasn't left. I am the disconnect. The fun with trade ideas forum is supposed to be exactly that. :emo kid: Wilfredo Ledezma 09-16-2008, 02:37 PM I don't know, I just don't see Rip being a hot commodittie on the FA market... I think he'd end up like Maggette in the sense that if he opts out, he'll get paid less despite thinking he'd be paid more... This year will tell alot... |
