View Full Version : Pick one deficiency to address on this team
Pretend you're Joe D and you are making a list of short comings of this current team. While it would be great to address all of our deficiencies in one fell swoop, that might be difficult to do. So, you need to prioritize and pick one key goal to improve on that will pay the most dividends. What do you focus on?
WTFchris 05-31-2008, 04:28 PM Low post scoring, hands down. We need a player that can attack the rim from inside. Sheed does not do that enough, and never will. Max does not have enough size to do this consistantly. Amir, who knows, but doesn't have enough bulk or experience at this point.
Timone 05-31-2008, 04:30 PM Should've been multiple choice.
Moodini31 05-31-2008, 04:48 PM Should've been multiple choice.
Is there an "all of the above" option?
Timone 05-31-2008, 04:49 PM There should be. But since there's not, I'm voting other.
Tahoe 05-31-2008, 07:57 PM All of the choices are X's and O's type of things. I think this team psychy is the problem.
Tahoe 05-31-2008, 07:57 PM BTW.. how do you spell psychy?
Timone 05-31-2008, 08:01 PM psyche
Tahoe 05-31-2008, 08:03 PM Fucking english language is fucked up sometimes, imo.
And thank you.
geerussell 05-31-2008, 08:06 PM I picked other... backup SF. After several false starts... Delfino, Evans, Hayes... there's still not a capable backup behind Prince.
Timone 05-31-2008, 08:07 PM Anything for one of my favorite 682 posters. :)

Talk about a revolving door...
Tahoe 05-31-2008, 08:08 PM I thought I was in your 5

Technically, that's actually Greek ψυχή being transliterated into English.
Cross 05-31-2008, 10:17 PM consistent rebounding please
Tahoe 05-31-2008, 10:21 PM English is Greek to me Swami.
Low post scoring without a doubt. We haven't had a legit scoring center during this whole run. We're either undersized or, in Sheed's case, lazy-chuckers.
Big Swami 05-31-2008, 10:32 PM My $0.02: defense in general, but rebounding specifically. This team was fun to watch in the first place because even though no one was a spectacular offensive threat, the defense was positively suffocating. I know Ben Wallace had a lot to do with that, and he's not doing that for anyone anymore.
When I think of what I want the Detroit Pistons to represent, I think of two things specifically: lock-down defense and the no-superstar mentality. It fits the Detroit fans like a glove. The Pistons didn't have much in the way of star scoring, but they never failed to make fools of the superstars on opposing teams who didn't take them seriously. I'll accept a team that doesn't win a championship. I know you probably won't believe me, but I really am OK with that. What I really desire as a fan is to see the Lebrons and Kobes and Wades get positively shat upon when they try to get clever. That fits the kind of attitude we have here in the Detroit area.
Where's the "Make Shots" choice?
Sincerely,
Flip Saunders
Seriously though... Finishing of the defensive sequence with the rebound and not settling for deep jumpers IMO.
Almost went with rebounding, but picked slashing scorer. How many times have opposing players been in foul trouble? Not much. When players/teams are in foul trouble they play completely different. That would be the best scenario to improve all of the choices in the poll.

This is pretty much my way of thinking. Except for the championship part; I want us winning titles while we shit upon the marquis players.
I'd add that consistent (and maybe aggressive?) forntcourt play would sum up a lot of what most of you guys are saying IMO. And I would agree with that too.
metr0man 05-31-2008, 11:58 PM Frontcourt scoring and rebounding.

Kstat 06-01-2008, 12:43 AM IMO, we need a stud 3rd scorer to compliment the guards, like the Zeke and Joe needed back in the day.
Id happily gut the roster (outside of the backcourt) for Tracy McGrady, a guy who I think would thrive in a similiar role to the one Adrian Dantley had back in the day, and finish out the roster with big intimidators that will knock people on their asses up front.
I know Tmac catches a lot of flak for not being able to carry a team, but as a 3rd option, he'd be lethal.
Cross 06-01-2008, 12:52 AM lets say we were to trade sheed and max for tmac and landry? wouldnt tmac atleast be the 2nd option. no way he's 3rd option on this team. would he get more touches than rip? i could imagine that.
Kstat 06-01-2008, 12:54 AM well, the scenraio would probably be sheed and Tayshan plus picks for TMac.
You're right that he wouldn't always be the 3rd option, but that's the beauty of it. There's no pressure on him.
TMac reminds me so much of Adrian Dantley before he became a Piston.
Dantley was a 30+ppg scorer, then came here and became 2nd and often 3rd wheel to Zeke and Joe D, but he thrived in that role, and suddenly he became clutch after being a choker for 10+ years.
Besides, after seeing a guy like KG sacrifice his game to get to the finals, I think TMac would be very open to the idea of being a part of a bigger machine.
Cross 06-01-2008, 01:01 AM yeah i agree. but would houston really want battier and tay on the same team?
tmacs a pretty damn good passer too so there would def be no pressure on him to carry his team.
Kstat 06-01-2008, 01:07 AM I think if they want to end the Tmac/Yao experiment and build around Yao, then Tayshaun and Rasheed are the way to go.
You get two long-armed defenders and a big man that will spread the floor for Yao out to the 3-point line.
If we add a couple first rounders to sweeten the deal, I think Hostuon might go for it.
Glenn 06-01-2008, 06:43 AM There is no Earl Watson option in the poll.
