I already can't stand the history of this matchup ESPN is shoving down our throats. They'll wind up talking about the old rivalry more than the current matchup, without a doubt by far. ESPN is sooo gay.
Lakers in 6.
Timone 05-31-2008, 12:10 AM Talk about hanging onto the past...
Wilfredo Ledezma 05-31-2008, 12:11 AM I'm not watching one minute of this garbage. Fuck this series. Fuck the stupid KG/Bill Russell garbage. I hope LA wins effortlessly...Go Lakers...
I hope this series is boring as hell and a sweep, one way or the other.
Wilfredo Ledezma 05-31-2008, 12:14 AM I don't know if I can stomach Kendrick Perkins having a little Larry O'Brien trophy patch on his jersey without blowing my fucking brains out...
Timone 05-31-2008, 12:15 AM I'll probably watch all of the games, because I'll have nothing better to do.
Wilfredo Ledezma 05-31-2008, 12:16 AM I'll probably watch all of the games, because I'll have nothing better to do.

"Do you remember when green and yellow meant......STOP and watch"
Ahhh, ESPN at it's finest. They have a week to think of more brilliant shit like this.

Pure unadulterated bullshit. Kobe would never let someone else drive.
Wilfredo Ledezma 05-31-2008, 10:16 AM lol, I love how Vujacic's little face pops out for like half a second...he's the new Varejao
DennyMcLain 05-31-2008, 10:48 AM I hope this series is boring as hell and a sweep, one way or the other.
Boring like a San Antonio, Detroit "defensive gem"?
Glenn 05-31-2008, 11:33 AM Go Lakers.
puke
Uncle Mxy 06-01-2008, 10:26 AM Doc Shivers will be outcocked by Phil Jackoff.
That is all. Well, not really all, but coaching will be the big difference.
Moodini31 06-01-2008, 09:52 PM All I know is that I turned on my T.V. today and Josh Elliott had a boner about how Lakers vs. Celtics just rolled off of his toungue. Then they began a predictable montage of Bird vs. Magic and Bill Russell clips. I immediately gave my TV the middle finger and turned it off. Then I went to church and confessed.
Big Swami 06-01-2008, 11:49 PM Well, great. We finally got the series that everyone 50 and older has been wanting. Everyone older than Kurtis Blow could not be murdered into giving a fuck.
Timone 06-01-2008, 11:50 PM PARTY LIKE IT'S 1987.
DennyMcLain 06-01-2008, 11:52 PM I personally wish the Lakers to roll in 5. Mostly since I'm a Laker fan, but also because it's the only real way Dumars is going to nuke the Pystunz. If the Celtics put up a good show, or even win, excuses shall abound about how the Celtics were a team of destiny.
I hate having to root for the Lakers, but I hate everything Celtic. Hopefully the Lakers can end it in 5, with at least 3 wins being total blowouts. I feel dirty now.
I'm also happy about Gasol maybe getting a ring and all, but I am so sick and tired of all these new bandwagon Laker fans here who have even less a clue than I do about basketball talking out of their ass just because he would be the first Spaniard in history to be part of an NBA champion.
I really do think the Lakers will win this. Kobe can stop Pierce (I don't think Kobe'll be guarding Allen) way more than Pierce can stop Kobe. I think Jackson's actually into coaching this year again and will eat Rivers up.
Big Swami 06-02-2008, 02:12 PM I'd just like to take this moment to point out that no one actually gives a shit about the fact that it's The Legendary Lakers against The Legendary Celtics, except for perhaps someone who's been in a coma for the past 21 years. Honestly, who gives a shit about the "storied history" of rivalry between these two teams? That shit happened in the Bronze Age. I now dedicate this thread to all the things that have come and gone since the Celtics and the Lakers last met in 1987.

I just can't stand to hear Jackson say "Peaul Pearce" anymore.
I may not watch this at all.

No.
Wilfredo Ledezma 06-04-2008, 07:54 AM Did anybody watch the SPORTSCENTER SPECIAL??

Glenn 06-06-2008, 09:35 AM He said something like "Guys go to the lockerroom with a broken shoelace or a loose drawstring in their shorts, these days" and then he went on to say something like, "He was gone, what, 3 minutes?"
Glenn 06-06-2008, 09:37 AM Here's the actual comment, from the presser, but the actual audio is better than this reads:
Q. In the third quarter when you were up by five and Pierce goes out and 36 seconds later Perkins goes out, did you think that that might be a tipping point for the team in terms of
COACH PHIL JACKSON: You know, you don't know what happens. Guys can break a shoelace and go out, the pants break down, drawstring falls apart. You don't know what happens to guys. Pierce was back on the floor in three minutes, so he wasn't that long out of the game. He came back and hit two threes. I think that was a big momentum change in the game.
WTFchris 06-06-2008, 10:26 AM Yeah, I saw the comments on sportscenter this morning. Fricken hilarious.

Kstat 06-08-2008, 11:11 PM The western conference apparently was all hype.
This level of defense by the Lakers isn't nearly up to Boston's standard.
Shit, it isn't even up to the standards of Detroit or Cleveland.
The fact that this soft ass team made it out of the west does not speak well for that conference.

I turned in for the pregame of Gm 1, and heard Mark Jackson saying how important it was for my generation (basically anybody 25 or younger) to witness a Lakers/Celtics finals matchup because it was our generation that missed out on the first ones...
I contemplated suicide for a short moment and then turned the TV off and went to bed...
The fact that this series is being portrayed as something from the 80's or something that is sacred and precious is a fucking joke, and I'm disappointed in Mark Jackson, who didn't even play for either of these two teams...

I'm not denying that, I think those past finals we're great for the NBA, but for ESPN to think something like that can be rekindled through a bunch of fraudlent fucktards like Perkins, Rondo, Vujacic and Radmanovic. Please...

Gasol too... don't like that dude for some reason.
I really like him, but I always wondered about his balls in big games in the NBA. Turns out he loses them. Every time he gets the ball in the low post he can't pass it off soon enough, damn thing's burning his hands.
This probably should go in the "Things that suck thread" but having horrible insomnia at 4 in the morning (and I mean staring at the ceiling for 2 hours) and then just giving up and turning on the TV to watch the Celtics come back from a 20 point deficit and put a strangle hold on the series...I'd rather chew broken glass.
But at least we'll get a good twelve years of Bill Simmons articles talking about how special this was to Boston and trying to compare it to other Celtic championships, other Boston championships and anything else up to and including the Boston Tea Party. I fucking hate the Celtics.
WTFchris 06-13-2008, 10:24 AM Odom has the same disease Memo had here. He loses the damn ball almost every time he goes up with it. He doesn't draw fouls and he doesn't finish well.

Odom would be fine if he was playing off the bench (ie Bynum was not hurt). However they have no interior defense at all. Nobody helps out. They would probably be wise to move Odom next year though because they already have Walton and Radmon that are forwards as well.
I wonder if they could trade Odom for a gunner like Redd. Redd doesn't do much more than stand and shoot, but Kobe attacks the basket and plays defense anyway. not sure the Bucks want Odom (with Yi and Charlie there), but he's an expiring.
He'd fit well in NY in that up tempo offense. Maybe Odom and Radmon for Curry and Jeffries, not that either of them are that great. Curry could backup Bynum and maybe Kareem can teach him a few post moves too, I don't know.
I wonder if Orlando would take him for Turk and Battie. Turk would open the floor more for the post players. Odom would push Lewis back to SF and give them a very athletic fron court.
Glenn 06-16-2008, 03:19 PM A couple of years ago, I remember hearing a lot of "Sheed for Odom" trade talk.
I'm not as down on Odom as the rest of you seem to be, I watched a few minutes of last night's game (against my better judgement) and I saw him out there scrapping for rebounds and he got a few putbacks out of it.
Just saying...
WTFchris 06-16-2008, 03:22 PM I like Odom, but a Sheed swap wouldn't be very good IMO. You lose a lot of interior defense. Odom needs to be paired with a a player like Camby IMO (not sure that would be good in Denver unless they move Melo or AI too because they'd have even less defense).
Timone 06-16-2008, 03:23 PM I expect Boston to wrap this one up in game 6... Kstat was right, LA being soft (or as they say in some parts, "bitch made") really speaks of how overrated the West might have actually been.
Timone 06-16-2008, 03:57 PM I like Odom, but a Sheed swap wouldn't be very good IMO. You lose a lot of interior defense. Odom needs to be paired with a a player like Camby IMO (not sure that would be good in Denver unless they move Melo or AI too because they'd have even less defense).
While I think having Tayshaun and Odom up front would be cool, I agree... giving up Sheed for him wouldn't be a good idea.

He would have been the perfect backup SF for us for when Tayshaun goes all vagasil. That said, Posey would be insane to leave Boston for Detroit considering the state of the 2 teams.
Which reminds me of something that pissed me off. Joe D pretty much ruled out going after a player with the full MLE, saying you're better off "Breaking it up". This gets on my nerves. How did we get our last good free agent bench player (Dice)? Full MLE. How did we get Chauncey? Full MLE. Handing out Partial MLEs gets you what we've had the last few years... Mo Evan, Flip Murray, Jarvis Hayes, etc. It's crap, and always seems to end up with a fringe rotation player that is constantly the "Weak link" in the chain. How about look for the best player available and go after them, not looking through the bargain bin of has beens and never weres.
Kobe looks like he wants to rape a hotel worker in his post game presser.
Is any championship complete without Brian Scalabrine's opinion? I think not.
