View Full Version : Mozilla Firefox 3.0 rc1... white text
geerussell 05-29-2008, 11:55 AM I decided to give this a whirl since the final release is due some time in june. For some reason the text in the body of messages is all white on white background. It is being rendered and shows up when highlighted.
I'm not html-savvy enough to hazard a guess as to why. For all I know it could be a bug in firefox. Either way, I'm wondering if anyone else is using this browser and has noticed this.
As an aside, firefox 3.0 is a massive performance improvement over 2.x. Smaller memory footprint and handles pages noticably faster. Especially the script heavy stuff. There are some other bells and whistles but the performance is the dealmaker.
Zekyl 05-30-2008, 12:28 PM I'm pretty sure this issue has been brought up a few times in different threads. I'm not sure where and I'm in the middle of moving or I'd look them up for you.
Big Swami 05-31-2008, 01:29 PM Not really sure what you're talking about. I don't have that problem at all.
i'm holding off on using ff 3.0 until it's officially released. i hope it's just a bug in the RC. i'll take a peek at the vbulletin forums to see if this is a common issue.
geerussell 06-12-2008, 10:43 AM Bump... using RC2 now, white-out still in full effect. It's pretty much in code freeze at this point so I expect it'll still be there in the final release which is scheduled for tuesday, 6/17.
RegicideGreg 06-17-2008, 05:00 PM Firefox three official came out today and it still has the white text issue. This could be an issue when firefox 2 will automatically update to firefox 3. We need to get this fixed because it is really irritating.
DrRay11 06-17-2008, 05:26 PM Agreed, my IE is freezing so I am thinking of going Firefox, but I'd like not to have that problem.
Yeah, I sure wish I'd read this thread before downloading it.
Glenn 06-17-2008, 07:32 PM This could be a pandemic.
But seriously, hopefully we (Matt) can find a patch or an upgrade for vBulletin that fixes this.
Vinny 06-17-2008, 07:45 PM Haven't downloaded the new firefox so if this is useless sorry, but googling around I found this:
Open Firefox
Go to Edit -> Preferences
Click on the "Content" tab
Under Fonts & Colors click Colors
Uncheck "Use system colors"
Hope that works.
That didn't work for me. But modifying the color of the backgrounds at least allows me to see everything fine.
Haha. I was just looking for a place to post that I can't see shit after I d/led FF3. I thought people were beng assclowns, writing in magic marker. This the only place I'm having trouble.
WTF
geerussell 06-17-2008, 11:14 PM My current workaround is to use the IE tab extension (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1419) which embeds internet explorer in a firefox tab. Adding the site name to its list makes it automatically make the switch when I come here in firefox but still... that's a weak kludge.
Either fix it immediately... or I'll... um, er... complain more. In this thread. In a mild, relatively inoffensive fashion. Every few days. Forever.
You don't want that. Nobody wants that.
Tahoe 06-17-2008, 11:41 PM #10...did work for me.
geerussell 06-18-2008, 02:09 AM Haven't downloaded the new firefox so if this is useless sorry, but googling around I found this:

Are you using a non-windows version? On mine it's Tools -> Options -> Content -> Colors...
At any rate, didn't work.
:emo kid:
Vinny 06-18-2008, 03:19 AM Just found that from google, I don't know.
On a depressing side note, when you google almost any combination of firefox, white text, vbulletin, etc for some reason the one website that keeps coming up is some white supremacist message board. I found myself strangely fascinated (not in agreement with them, please don't get me wrong, fascinated with how such people can exist in our society....mortified...). After 15 minutes of reading that crap I almost threw up. Just a heads up, don't click on it. It's exactly what you think it is and worse.

whoa
BubblesTheLion 06-19-2008, 10:32 PM You just highlighted my balls.
DrRay11 06-21-2008, 09:11 AM Piss out my assssss. Didn't work for me either. Hm what to do what to do bitches
DrRay11 06-21-2008, 09:59 AM Well. I can't see shit, but it's not freezing like my IE was, so I'm going to stick with it. Time will tell how long I can tolerate the white text.
I've been playing around with the settings and can't get anything to work either.
Glenn 06-21-2008, 10:01 AM I wish I knew anything about this shit, but unfortunately, I think Matt's our only hope here.
DrRay11 06-21-2008, 10:47 AM FF3 users having this problem should be able to see this text. I did it by selecting black from the color palette just above.
This tells me something is or may be wrong with the default font color here on the forums. Is it set to something called "automatic?" Perhaps it needs a specific definition (black?). I am not sure, but may be on to something.

Give me a minute to investigate this.
You can also read the text fine by just changing the background. It's letting the site use its default colors that causes the white text.
DrRay11 06-21-2008, 10:52 AM How do you do that?
Tools/Options/Content/Colors (in the middle where it says Fonts and Colors)
Glenn 06-21-2008, 10:57 AM Too many options in the admin panel, I got scared.
I'm not going to cause a crash or lose the database or anything
DrRay11 06-21-2008, 10:59 AM Tools/Options/Content/Colors (in the middle where it says Fonts and Colors)
Yeah I tried that already, didn't work for me.
You go into Colors and change the background. Then you make sure the "Allow pages..." option is unchecked. If you leave that part checked then you get the default page and you'll still get the white text.
DrRay11 06-21-2008, 11:03 AM Well yeah, but that makes the site ugly as sin. I'm trying to find a bipartisan solution.
Please let me know if you find one. For Wtf, I uncheck the box and at least I can read all the posts. For every other site I go back and check the damn box again.
DrRay11 06-21-2008, 11:09 AM Don't be a pussy, Glenn.
Actually, on second thought....
Timone 06-21-2008, 11:16 AM Holy shit, what the fuck just happened? Some of the links are black now and not blue.
I'm using Opera.
DrRay11 06-21-2008, 11:16 AM Ahhh all the links are black! lol. still can't read the wt though.
Timone 06-21-2008, 11:17 AM Glenn fucked with something.
Glenn 06-21-2008, 11:17 AM Holy shit, what the fuck just happened? Some of the links are black now and not blue.

Um, give me a minute.
DrRay11 06-21-2008, 11:17 AM Hehehehe. What you did was change the not visited links to black, the visited links are still blue.
Timone 06-21-2008, 11:19 AM And WTF lived happily ever after.
DrRay11 06-21-2008, 11:20 AM except the Firefox 3 users so far
Glenn 06-21-2008, 11:20 AM Better? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yu_moia-oVI)
Glenn 06-21-2008, 11:21 AM I didn't notice that the links were black because they are always black in the forum style that I use.
Glenn 06-21-2008, 11:22 AM Matt's going to have a heart attack when he reads this, lol.
I can just picture it now.
DrRay11 06-21-2008, 11:22 AM Rick Astley is just incredibly.... cool.
Glenn 06-21-2008, 11:23 AM Rick Astley is just incredibly.... cool.
I just watched/listened to the whole thing, too.
DrRay11 06-21-2008, 11:24 AM Rick Astley will never:
Give you up
Let you down...
A few days ago I did check out the vBulletin site/fourm to see if there was any mention of it. My guess is that either the answer is there now or you guys can post there and see if someone has solved it.
DrRay11 06-21-2008, 11:28 AM MATTT WAAAAAAHHHHHH
^^baby crying
DrRay11 06-21-2008, 11:30 AM Glenn keep playing around or give me temporary administrative powers, damnit.
Actually, don't, I will fuck something up.
Timone 06-21-2008, 11:31 AM It's no surprise to me that they'd give someone like Glenn power... I mean, just look at the boob in office.
Just to rile up Tahoe. : p
Glenn 06-21-2008, 11:32 AM I'm Spurs messing around wit dis.
Glenn 06-21-2008, 11:38 AM test
SpursSpursSpursSpurs.
Glenn 06-21-2008, 11:39 AM test
SpursSpursSpursSpurs.
Fuck, that didn't work.
Timone 06-21-2008, 11:41 AM THIS GUY IS IN CHARGE?? WHAT IF WE GET ATTACKED?
He'll continue to read children books followed by a weak commitment to a necessary war and then a strong commitment to a horribly mishandled war.
Or were you talking about Glenn?
Vinny 06-21-2008, 11:57 AM THIS GUY IS IN CHARGE?? WHAT IF WE GET ATTACKED?
The war hasn't even started and already it appears that Bukdow has already won.
Timone 06-21-2008, 12:00 PM I heard bukdow posts at RealCavsFans... if it's true, do you think they're conspiring against us?
Timone 06-21-2008, 12:03 PM I heard bukdow posts at RealCavsFans... if it's true, do you think they're conspiring against us?
Or maybe the Sparties that used to post here have gathered with bukdow and co at SpartanTailgate and THEY are the ones conspiring against us?
RegicideGreg 06-22-2008, 12:48 AM THANK GOD IT IS FIXED!!! THANKS GLENN, RAY, Jesus
Alright, I think I found the culprits....some font color settings needed adjustments. Sorry that one took so long to hunt down.
Can anyone using Safari and/or an iPhone see if the forums look ok?
Tahoe 06-22-2008, 01:02 AM The blue seems slightly lighter in Safari to me, no big deal at all. Whenever I go to websites like WTF on the IPhone it locks it up. I don't browse on it.
Glenn 06-22-2008, 07:31 AM I told y'all that Matt is the man.
DrRay11 06-22-2008, 09:28 AM w00t! was I of any assistance?
Now if myspace would just load when I login, all would be right with Firefox!
geerussell 06-22-2008, 11:19 AM Yay.
Vinny 06-22-2008, 12:22 PM I told y'all that Matt is the man.
No you didn't.
