I probably shouldn't be saying this, but Cogent is one of my company's clients.

When I heard a couple of guys talking about doing work for Cogent, I was like "bullshit, your connection to Cogent is tenuous, at best." They had no idea what I was talking about.

I gage the validity of that story as tenuous, at best.

Actually, that story is 100% true, and 100% sad. :emo kid:

Maybe we should take a collection of alpacas and invest in some Cogent stock.

What makes you think I'm a technophile? In many ways, I'd be considered a knuckle-dragging luddite.

Having said that, it's showing the network path of IP routers between Cogent Communication's closest network "looking glass" and where the wtfdetroit.com colo is physically hosted. Both are in the metro DC area, so you'll typically see only a few milliseconds between the two. Larger network providers like Cogent often maintain network looking glasses so it's easy for an outside troubleshooter to do a cursory check of how low-level IP network things perform from various points along their network.

Isn't that the old tracert command?

Isn't that the old tracert command?
More-or-less, yeah. This is likely coming off a Cisco, not a Windows box.

It is. The actual command is traceroute but it's being abbreviated by the web app. Cogent has a CGI script on this website that is relaying hostnames to one of their Internet routers via SSH and executing traceroute. << Stuff like this is pretty much my entire life.
