Insomenia is the LEAST talked about, or its talked about as not a big deal, condition in the entire world. I'm serious. It fucking sucks.

When I'm going through heavy stress times, I can sleep for about 3 hours and I might as well get up and work, cuz I ain't gonna sleep.

Then about mid day when everyone is cruising, I'm fucking hurtin.

I'm with you. I don't think I've ever slept on my back. Don't even understand the concept. It just doesn't feel right.

Agree, but I don't need stress for this to happen to me. Sometimes (like earlier this week) I'll just go a couple of nights in a row that I wake up at about 1:30am and feel like I could run a marathon. A couple hours later I'll be able to go back to bed, but the next day is always a fog.

And I also need to sleep on my side, but my knees can't be touching.

Sounds like a thread for me. I have not one, but two types of insomnia. Regular sleepless insomnia, and slow-sleep insomnia. Honestly the slow-sleep is the worst. For those who don't know, instead of cycling through the stages of sleep every while it can take hours to cycle through each stage of sleep... so while you may be unconscious for eight hours you might only reach stage two of sleep and therefore never reach a deep sleep. At least when I just don't fall asleep I'm aware of it, but slow-sleep is by far worse the next day.

Also I cannot sleep on my back either.

WTF did I just say?

I have found that it sometimes helps to get away from the computer and into a thing called a "bed." Or, if you have a laptop, "turning it off" or "closing the lid." Both can be effective sleep techniques.

This is not a joke:

I had a dream last night that I was hanging out with a couple of my friends, and Uncle Mxy called me up to try and sell me something (I don't remember what it was, some device or something). Keep in mind that I've never met Uncle Mxy in my life, nor do I have a clue as to what he is like outside of WTF, but if it's like my dream he has a high voice and introduces himself over the phone as "Uncle Maxy."

I think I need to take a while away from WTF if posters are haunting my dreams.

Bwahahaha!

1) No, I don't do sales. Decades ago, I had a sales gig for a couple months. I was good at it by being slightly disingenuous, taking advantage of people who didn't know better (which is how they ended up with me in the first place). I decided that wasn't for me.

2) My voice is kind of a low baritone. The most defining characteristic is that I'm loud. I have to consciously think to NOT speak through my diaphragm.

3) I pronounce it "Mixy", short for "mix-el-plix" or "mix-yez-pitellick" depending on which comic book geek you talk to. The name is an old BBS handle from the '80s. I needed a throwaway name to cause some mischief long ago. I was watching Saturday morning cartoons, specifically this episode of the Superfriends:

http://www.tv.com/superfriends-the-legendary-super-powers-show/uncle-mxyzptlk/episode/194803/summary.html

I resuscitated it for modern-day web-fangled BBSes today.

The real question I have is -- did you buy what I was selling? ;)

MoTown
06-04-2008, 02:43 PM
I'm pretty sure I kept politely trying to tell you I couldn't buy it from you, that I just wasn't interested right now. That doesn't mean that you didn't continue to sell me, which of course in a dream can get annoying.

Glenn

Nah, besides having an annoyingly high pitched voice and sounding like a used car salesman, I have no problem with Mxy.

Uncle Mxy
06-04-2008, 05:15 PM
<laughs>

Someone in my family IS a used car salesman, but that's because he likes to fix up shitty cars and resell 'em. He has a steady stream of cars on blocks on the lawn, held together by coat hangers, bondo, iffy weld jobs, and miracles. And no, he doesn't have a high-pitched voice. :)

Vinny
07-09-2008, 08:00 PM
My sleep schedule's such a wreck. My work schedule makes it impossible.

Roughly, I work:

Sun: 10-4
Mon: 1-11:30
Tues: 10-6:30
Wed: 5:30 PM-2:30/3:00 AM
Thurs: OFF
Fri: 1:00 PM - 3:30 AM
Sat: OFF (usually, once every 5-6 weeks, I work 5:00 PM-4:00 AM)

It's hard to go back and forth between nights and days.

I have to get up before 6 on weekdays for work and the worst thing is that every couple of months I will totally jinx myself and don't fall asleep until like 4:30. It is tough as hell. I will be completely exhausted and when I go lay down, I won't be able to fall asleep. Then I will watch the clock and during each passing minute I will put more and more pressure on myself to sleep which makes things worse. The clock flies when you are laying in bed and need to sleep but can't. Shit goes 1 hour for every 5 minutes.
