View Full Version : Is the site acting weird for anyone else?
Glenn 05-14-2008, 12:04 PM I mean, besides having to read my posts.
Pages are taking a long time to load, links aren't working, etc.
Hopefully, it's just my connection.
Glenn 05-14-2008, 12:12 PM Well, it was nice knowing you guys.
Take care.
Big Swami 05-14-2008, 01:12 PM I'm getting some odd latency now and again, but nothing that bad.
Zekyl 05-14-2008, 01:12 PM I have no problems, haven't had any other than I can't use the site at work (all forums are blocked).
Tahoe 05-14-2008, 02:06 PM I notice it mostly when its a thread that everyone is posting on, like last nights Pistons game thread.
DrRay11 05-14-2008, 04:08 PM Not that I have noticed.
Then again, my internet connection is wildly inconsistent as it is... May be happening and I am used to it.
Zekyl 05-14-2008, 05:28 PM I think it just doesn't like you guys. I mean, it works fine down here in Cle............ummmm...........Toledo.
MoTown 05-15-2008, 06:32 AM YES! Zekyl finally embracing it...
Glenn 05-15-2008, 08:13 AM Everything seems back to normal again!
I was so scared there for a minute.
WTFchris 05-15-2008, 01:35 PM It's been acting funny for me this morning (for about the last half hour).
Tahoe 05-15-2008, 02:54 PM ^ me too.
Vinny 05-15-2008, 03:25 PM Probably needs archiving or something.
Tahoe 05-15-2008, 03:26 PM Reindexing? Rebuilding?
DrRay11 05-15-2008, 03:32 PM Pussy?
Glenn 05-15-2008, 03:34 PM Bannings?
Tahoe 05-15-2008, 03:43 PM Its broken hearted cuz SDB left.
Zekyl 05-16-2008, 01:44 AM But he's back.....
Timone 05-16-2008, 02:02 AM Don't get too excited, Zek.
Vinny 05-16-2008, 05:36 PM I hope it's because someone's fixing it but it's a mess right now. Do we need an emergency plan?
DrRay11 05-16-2008, 06:45 PM Ummm...
What is wrong with it?
Tahoe 05-16-2008, 06:49 PM Ummm...
What is wrong with it?
You haven't heard?
DrRay11 05-16-2008, 06:50 PM It's that Miner guy, fucking around with our pages again...
Tahoe 05-16-2008, 06:51 PM No, seriously, you haven't heard?
DrRay11 05-16-2008, 08:03 PM Just tried to open a page, first time it took a while. wtf
Tahoe 05-16-2008, 08:31 PM I was about to tell you but got a pm that said not to tell you Doc.
DrRay11 05-16-2008, 08:35 PM NO!
Tahoe 05-16-2008, 08:36 PM Yes
DrRay11 05-16-2008, 08:37 PM I mean no fucking way!
Tahoe 05-16-2008, 08:39 PM The only peeps who know whats really going on are me, SDB, GD, MoTown, Vinny, Swam, Fool, will and yes, Zekyl. So its a pretty tightly held secret.
Tahoe 05-16-2008, 08:41 PM Oh, forgot, Mxy, WTFChris too.
DrRay11 05-16-2008, 08:41 PM AND ME
Tahoe 05-16-2008, 08:46 PM Sorry Tahoe, not playing along
:cogent:
Timone 05-16-2008, 08:48 PM Just tried to open a page, first time it took a while. wtf
My dad's a television repair man, he's got the ultimate set of tools. I can fix it!

Glenn 05-19-2008, 03:40 PM I sent Matt an email to see if he could look into these issues when he has time.
I also sent him a link to this thread, so if you have anything to add that might help him diagnose the problem, please post it here so he'll see it.
It could be a problem with the flux capacitor, Matt.
WTFchris 05-19-2008, 04:27 PM yeah, I triple posted earlier because it hung up on me. Luckily I can delete them.
Glenn 05-19-2008, 04:30 PM yeah, I triple posted earlier because it hung up on me. Luckily I can delete them.
MOD POWER
Also, check your PMs, Chris.
Some polls are not allowing multiple choices. That seems like it should be fixed.
Glenn 05-19-2008, 04:35 PM Some polls are not allowing multiple choices. That seems like it should be fixed.
That's a setting that you have to choose when you post the poll.
Yeah, that should be fixed.
are you guys noticing this randomly? or is there a particular time of day when the site speed is noticeably bad?
Tahoe 05-19-2008, 05:33 PM ^ Not a particular time of day for me.
I click on a thread and it just give me the progress bar, across the bottom of my browser, without loading the thread and sometimes times out.
DrRay11 05-19-2008, 05:40 PM Well, this has only happened to me once so far, and I check the site usually about every 15 mins during the day when I'm home, lol.
Vinny 05-19-2008, 05:44 PM It's pretty random, and seems fine today.
Vinny 05-19-2008, 05:46 PM Of course, until that "Quick Reply" there that took about 3 and a half minutes to go.
Glenn 05-20-2008, 10:08 AM HAY MATT, IT'S SLOW RIGHT NOW
Glenn 05-21-2008, 03:23 PM Just got this message after clicking on a thread:
There seems to have been a problem with the database.
Please try again by clicking the Refresh button in your web browser.
An E-Mail has been dispatched to our Technical Staff, whom you can also contact if the problem persists.
We apologise for any inconvenience.
I guess it has been funny for a few days. Also, the front page at the bottom in recent threads, it doesn't always show the 7 newest threads even if I refresh n shit.
Vinny 05-21-2008, 07:23 PM Matt, I think the site just misses you. Come back!
WTFchris 05-22-2008, 11:14 AM Just got this message after clicking on a thread:
I got that same message this morning
Glenn 05-22-2008, 11:16 AM WE GOT HIT BY A VOLCANO
Big Swami 05-22-2008, 11:20 AM I was really sad for a second there that the WTF era was over.
Glenn 05-22-2008, 11:22 AM I was really sad for a second there that the WTF era was over.
We like to pull the plug once a year or so for that exact reason.
:VOLCANO:
Timone 05-22-2008, 12:07 PM Whew, I almost went back to my old habits.
Glenn 05-22-2008, 02:36 PM The hosting service is to blame for these hiccups, btw.
Matt's kicking their asses about it and hopefully all will be resolved soon.
Tahoe 05-22-2008, 02:38 PM It was pretty bad there for a while. Its rarely the software.
DrRay11 05-22-2008, 03:55 PM Just had a few times where it said it could not load the page.
Big Swami 05-22-2008, 04:00 PM My guess is either the ISP security guy is fucking with some stupid ACL that should have been applied a long time ago and should be working perfectly by now, or the SQL server is shaky and needs a reboot. My guess is the latter.
Timone 05-22-2008, 04:04 PM Well, I'm going to wipe out my hard drive and see if that does the trick.
Tahoe 05-22-2008, 04:05 PM I'm about to go give the server a large grocery bag full of ass and then kick it in the nuts or something.
Glenn 05-22-2008, 04:11 PM Matt said that it has to do with the database of another one of their clients on the same server.
Or something like that.
Tahoe 05-22-2008, 04:14 PM Tell Matt that we don't give a shit about the other database OR one of their other clients... or something like that. :)
ps...thats what I always say to subs when they start telling me how busy they are. "I don't give a shit about them"
^ Those are both jokes, it might not be funny but it is to me.
Big Swami 05-22-2008, 05:01 PM Matt said that it has to do with the database of another one of their clients on the same server.
Or something like that.
Yeah, someone is using waaaaaay too much processing power on their database, and WTFDetroit.com is getting starved.
Yeah you guys probably need to bitch.
DrRay11 05-22-2008, 10:13 PM lol...
Big Swami 05-23-2008, 01:07 PM I think it's safe to say that the current WTF hosting deal is balls. Time to get a new webhost.
hey guys, sorry for the recent hiccups in sevice. our webhost was experiencing issues that affected WTFD. they seem to be behind us, so we should be back to running smoothly. feel free to let us know if things aren't acting right for significant periods of time. our webhost has actually been quite good over recent years and we don't have reason to switch at the moment.
Tahoe 05-23-2008, 03:02 PM Thank you Senor Matt. No need to appologize. I agree the site has been hiccup free for the couple of years I've been here.

how about you post more?
Glenn 05-27-2008, 09:40 AM Everything seems better now to me, agreed?
People can still make polls that don't allow multiple answers.

Wizzle 06-23-2008, 09:23 PM I also got that on the home page.......earlier today I couldn't get on at all
FIX IT GLENN!! WTF!?
just playin
Vinny 06-23-2008, 11:17 PM Everything's flying now. Thanks, Matt.
Glenn 06-24-2008, 05:50 AM HOW'S MY ASS TASTE?
Vinny 07-22-2008, 12:32 PM Last night and today, when I try to go to wtfdetroit.com, www.wtfdetroit.com (http://www.wtfdetroit.com), or www.wtfdetroit.com/forums (http://www.wtfdetroit.com/forums), I just get this error:
Invalid forum path specified! Please edit this file and be sure to include the correct path for your $forumpath variable.
I got on just now by going to the URL for an old thread I had in my history. Anyone else having problems??
Zekyl 07-22-2008, 12:42 PM I had that problem when I was trying to go to the site trhough www.iptwister.com but now I'm using www.unblocked.org and its working just fine.
Glenn 07-22-2008, 01:01 PM No problem for me, but my computer is very MoTown.
Are you willing to clear your cache, Vinny?
Not sure if that will help, but I felt like I had to offer advice of some kind, at least.
WTFchris 07-22-2008, 01:11 PM mine seems fine also today.
Vinny 07-22-2008, 01:12 PM Strange. I tried clearing the cache. I've tried on multiple computers too, but they're all sharing the same comcast internet so I don't know if that has something to do with it.
MoTown 07-22-2008, 01:34 PM No problem for me, but my computer is very MoTown.
So smooth...
Glenn 07-23-2008, 10:01 AM I had that problem from my home computer last night.
I fixed it by Googling a thread that I new the name of and clicking on that link.
Then I deleted my old bookmark/favorite and saved a new one.
I'm guessing that the web host changed something.
Only the great Matt would know for sure.
Zekyl 07-23-2008, 10:28 AM I never have the problem if I go directly to wtfdetroit.com/forums, I get it if i go to the home page every once in a while, but I'm going through a proxy at work because the site is blocked.
Vinny 07-23-2008, 06:24 PM I wonder if this is keeping some people away? It happens to me every time on the home page. I imagine there are some people who just think the site's down altogether. I know I did until I was told different in the baseball league, and I didn't even bother trying to "backdoor" it before then.
WTFchris 07-23-2008, 06:29 PM I went to the site from the PC at my apartment complex and it didn't come up. I actually had to search for a specific forum and go there.

I bet you are right. Traffic is way down over the past two days and we're missing some regulars.
We can do a mass email tomorrow to alert everyone if the problems persist.
Hopefully Matt has a clue as to what is going on.
I believe in young Matthew.
Vinny 07-23-2008, 08:42 PM Going to www.wtfdetroit.com/forums (http://www.wtfdetroit.com/forums) works for me but www.wtfdetroit.com (http://www.wtfdetroit.com) and www.wtfdetroit.com/index (http://www.wtfdetroit.com/index) (coincidentally the 2 I have bookmarked) both give me the error. Even once I get on, if I click the link to "Home" at the top I get the error again.

Glenn 07-24-2008, 09:03 AM The email is going out right now.
It's fixed now. It was a configuration issue....I'm investigating what changed that borked the front page.
Sorry for the inconvenience, fellas.
I'm one of those that thought the site was down. Glad you got it fixed Matt.
