Zekyl 05-02-2008, 11:36 AM Saw Iron Man last night, it was solid.
Big Swami 05-02-2008, 03:29 PM Iron man has been getting good critical reviews.
Big Swami 05-02-2008, 03:42 PM Will I see them?
May 2: Iron Man - Yeah, probably
May 9: Speed Racer, What Happens in Vegas - no, neither of those
May 16: The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian - no, religious propaganda
May 22: Indian Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - I hope it turns out good, but that title sounds like it was made up by a 7-year-old kid.
May 30: Sex in the City, The Strangers - no, and I heard The Strangers was far too messed up to actually be enjoyable so no.
June:
June 6: Kung Fu Panda, You Don't Mess with the Zohan - no and aw hell no
June 13: The Happening, The Incredible Hulk - Not into disaster movies but way into Zooey Deschanel, and I thought there already was a Hulk movie a little while ago?
June 20: Get Smart, The Love Guru - yes, no
June 27: WALL-E, Wanted - shit no, fuck no
July
July 2: Hancock - seems like a fun idea, but it might be awful (has Will Smif in it)
July 11: Meet Dave, Hellboy II: The Golden Army - Meet Dave has Eddie Murphy in it so no, and Hellboy II looks really good and was directed by one of my favorite directors
July 18: The Dark Knight - pretty geeked to see this
July 25: Step Brothers, The X-Files - No, no
August
August 1: The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, He's Just Not That into You - No, no
August 8: Pineapple Express - Yes.
August 15: Tropic Thunder, Star Wars: The Clone Wars - Tropic Thunder has Ben Stiller so no, and I have had it with Star Wars
August 22: The Accidental Husband, Hamlet 2 - chick flick so no to the first one, pretty geeked about Hamlet 2 tho
August 29: Babylon A.D. - everything I learn about this movie makes me want to throw up over and over again
Vinny 05-02-2008, 05:18 PM May 22: Indian Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - I hope it turns out good, but that title sounds like it was made up by a 7-year-old kid.
Yeah, I really want that to be good but that title is just absurd. I bet it's worse than Temple.
Zekyl 05-02-2008, 09:35 PM Yes, they recently made a Hulk movie and it bombed. I'll go see this one, if only because Edward Norton is playing the main man and I'll pretty much see anything he's in.
geerussell 05-03-2008, 11:48 AM Iron Man was worthwhile. I don't see anything else coming up that I'm very exciteed about.
The Happening? No way. M Night Shyamalan has turned into the fountain of suck. I'd need a foot-high pile of sworn affadavits swearing the movie isn't a complete waste of time before I'd watch it.
MoTown 05-03-2008, 01:38 PM -I'm pretty excited to see Iron Man. I've heard good things so far, and I'll admit I'm a big comic book movie fan (except the Fantastic 4 series and Spiderman 3).
-I've never seen a movie that looks worse than Speed Racer. It looks like a 4 year old wrote and directed the film. And I can't stand the lead actor. He just pisses me off. The only movie that I think looks worse than this is One Missed Call.
- I don't know a lot about The Strangers, but it looks like a horror film actually worth seeing. It actually looked creepy in the previews, but I haven't heard the bad things that Swami has heard about it.
- Don't know much about The Happening and it looks interesting, but so does every M. Night Shamalan film before I go and see it and vomit in the theater. I'll learn my lesson one of these days.
- The Incredible Hulk it a "loose sequel" to Hulk. Apparently Marvel Studios hated the first one and said make another one with a better director and better actors. So it's a sequel, but also a reboot.
- Sex in the City - You know every one of you vomited when you saw the preview. I would gladly trade Heath Ledger's life for those four women if I could.
- Get Smart and WALL-E look like something I would see when it's free on Showtime... or if I find out I have a 4 year old kid.
- Hancock looks hilarious. The first preview looked funny, the second preview made it look like it could be a good movie as well. I like Will Smif, though. And it's a pretty clever idea for a Superhero movie.
- The Dark Knight is the one I've been counting down the days to. If there's only one movie I see this summer, that's the one. I can't wait to see it, and I really hope my expectations aren't too high. Begins was a great movie, and I hope Nolan continues his great work.
- Tropic Thunder and Hamlet 2 look pretty funny, so if I have any extra cash I'll go see them.
MoTown 05-03-2008, 01:46 PM The newest Hancock trailer, in case you haven't seen it.

gusman 05-03-2008, 02:29 PM I am very excited to see batman because of heath ledgers death, imagine his emotion while filming this movie. It is almost as if he really is the joker
geerussell 05-04-2008, 01:26 AM Ok, I'll go out on a limb here and say that the batman sequel will be the best move of the summer.
Unibomber 05-04-2008, 01:54 AM Motown: Completely agree with you on Speed Racer; the movie looks absolutely dreadful and I can't imagine the dialogue and action scenes will be much different from the cartoon...and I don't mean that in a funny way. I'd only see it if I was able to abuse a substance or two on the way there.
Step Brothers might be funny because John C. Reilly gets to play Will Ferrell's foil, but the premise just reeks of wasted talent and gags. The scene in the trailer where Will Ferrell gets crushed by the bunk bed was pretty funny though.
Big Swami 05-04-2008, 01:08 PM I can't imagine that the Speed Racer movie was made for any other reason than because LSD exists.
Vinny 05-04-2008, 01:15 PM -1 for Herr Hoffman.
Big Swami 05-04-2008, 02:56 PM +1 for spiritual and cultural revolution
-1 for terrible movies
Uncle Mxy 05-04-2008, 09:58 PM Ok, I'll go out on a limb here and say that the batman sequel will be the best move of the summer.
It's gonna have to beat Iron Man, which is AWESOME!! Having seen it only a couple hours ago, maybe I'm biased, but it's the best superhero movie of the 21st century. I want my own personal Pepper and Jarvis, damnit!
Black Dynamite 05-05-2008, 08:35 AM Iron Man was damn good, Favreau impressed me. He's never directed anything that big ever in his career as a typically smaller movie/tv show director(long way from Made, Elf, and Zathura) and nailed it fairly well.
But I still gotta take Spider Man 2 and Batman Begins over it for best in the 21st Century. Its probably the most surprising hero movie i've ever seen based on my mild expectations.
MoTown 05-05-2008, 08:43 AM I agree with you Gutz. Spiderman 2 remains my favorite comic book movie and Batman Begins was also amazing. Iron Man was a very close third, however.
Black Dynamite 05-05-2008, 08:52 AM Best Superhero movie of All Time of course is the directors full cut of Superman. I have it on Blu ray and its like watching a new movie sometimes. You forget that its as old as it is.
Also That opening weekend has set the wheels in motion for an Avengers span of movies to tae place. Marvel making its most elaborate push ever.
News
Marvel Studios Sets Four More Release Dates!
Source: Yahoo! Finance
May 5, 2008
Marvel Entertainment released their first quarter report to its shareholders this morning to coincide with the announcement about the success this past weekend of Marvel Studios' first production Iron Man, which grossed an estimated $100.7 million domestically and over $200 million worldwide. The announcement included an update of Marvel Studios' feature film slate with the already-rumored Iron Man 2 announced for a release on April 30, 2010, followed by three more movies for the summers of '10 and '11. Matthew Vaughn's Thor is set for a release on June 4, 2010, and The First Avenger: Captain America (the working title) will kick off the summer of 2011 on May 6, followed by the highly-anticipated and foreshadowed The Avengers scheduled for July 2011. (Edgar Wright's Ant-Man is also listed as being in development with no release date set.)
With that in mind, one can start expecting a lot more announcements in the coming months about creative teams and casting for those movies including who might direct the Captain America and Avengers movies. (Whomever plays Steve Rogers AKA Captain America presumably will be making two movies at once.)
There will be a webcast for investors at 9AM Eastern at www.Marvel.com/webcasts where the same information should be relayed.

Black Dynamite 05-05-2008, 08:58 AM Motown how do you feel about the Spoiler warning:
About Nick Fury great Hasselhoff being replaced by Samuel Jackson?
MoTown 05-05-2008, 09:06 AM I have to admit, I was quite upset with that. But I guess I had to live with it because the character was DESIGNED for him...
MoTown 05-05-2008, 09:06 AM btw:

Holy shit.
Zekyl 05-05-2008, 10:38 AM OMG, that looks even better than before! I can't wait to see that movie.

Black Dynamite 05-05-2008, 11:18 AM Fool w/o the spoiler warning. shame on you.

They've got their own Glenn.

Uncle Mxy 05-07-2008, 09:35 AM Anyone else think that Anne Hathaway is the wrong choice to play Agent 99?
Big Swami 05-07-2008, 09:36 AM Yeah, very excited to see that one. Apparently this was written by Seth Rogen too.
Zekyl 05-07-2008, 11:54 AM It looks hilarious. The song they use is a great song too. M.I.A. - Paper Planes
MoTown 05-07-2008, 12:24 PM I think that M. Night Shamalon doesn't know how to make a movie... he can only come up with a few ideas and try and string them together. It always seems like his movies are developing really well, and then it's like he runs out of ideas and just tries to end the movie as fast as possible. He's great for the first half of the movie, then he just has no idea how to close.
The Happening looks interesting, but I bet the ending is something like: "And then all the plants ceased their attack because they wanted fertilizer."
Uncle Mxy 05-07-2008, 12:37 PM Much like "It Happened", when I see "The Happening", I think "bowel movement".
geerussell 05-07-2008, 01:40 PM Anyone else think that Anne Hathaway is the wrong choice to play Agent 99?
Looks like OK casting to me. She looks good enough for the part and has shown at least servicable comic timing in a couple roles.

I liked unbreakable, signs, and 6th sense. Lady in the water was definitely an abomination and the village was tragically bad.
MoTown 05-07-2008, 03:12 PM I liked some of them, but it's just like he didn't think things through.
Sixth Sense - Good but he copied that from an "Are You Afraid of the Dark Episode." I'm serious.
Unbreakable - I liked the movie, but it's like he didn't know how to show that the last scene was the climax. The guy goes out and saves a life and then all of the sudden the movie is over.
Signs - So Aliens that have far better technology than us come to Earth which is made up of 70% water and don't realize they have a water allergy until the get here? I liked the ideas before that but it's like MNS was writing his story and thought "How do I kill off the aliens?" *sips bottled water* "Perfect!"
The Village - Didn't watch all of it, but from what I saw it was boring and ridiculous. Another one where he thought "What kind of twist can I throw in here to mess with everybody?"
Lady in the Water - Did not watch it.
Black Dynamite 05-07-2008, 03:16 PM I can't speak on the depth of the details. Just that i liked 3 of his movies, hated the other 2. [smilie=heatsmiley2:

You liked signs? The first half was good and suspenseful but the payoff --retarded aliens who apparently forrest gumped their way across the stars to be foiled by water--was one of the worst in movie history.
Uncle Mxy 05-07-2008, 04:13 PM Looks like OK casting to me. She looks good enough for the part and has shown at least servicable comic timing in a couple roles.
I dunno. It's not about being attractive, but Hathaway just looks too young compared to Carell -- like his daughter or something. My hunch is that they should've gotten a thirtysomething. And with Agent 99, the voice is as just as important as looks. Hathaway just doesn't sound like she'd be the competent brains of the operation quite like Barbara Feldon. We'll see.
Glenn 05-07-2008, 04:18 PM If Liz Hurley hadn't had that role in Austin Powers, that might have been a good choice.
Big Swami 05-07-2008, 05:38 PM I really hated Signs. They go through all that shit with the aliens and whatever, and then what's the point of the story? "Hey everyone, the secret is: believe in Jesus."
Unbreakable was awesome, tho. I didn't read any spoilers or anything and I'm also rather dumb, so I didn't really know what was going on. Then they said that Mr. Glass caused the train wreck, and I was like OOOOOH SHIT! I know what's going on here!

LOL.....well theres no possible way for you to like that. But yea i personally thought it was an ok movie. Not an oscar winner or amazing hit, but ok? Yea to me personally it was. But I dont have a thing against Aliens twists or Jesus plot twists. [smilie=heatsmiley2:

Black Dynamite 05-26-2008, 10:41 AM The Curious Case of Benjamin Button Looks like a damn interesting movie.
Directed by David Fincher teaming up with Brad Pitt for a Third movie(Se7en and Fight Club before).
Adapted Screenplay by Eric Roth who wrote Forest Gump's Screenplay.
Weird movie idea from a 1920's story.
"I was born under unusual circumstances." And so begins "Benjamin Button," adapted from the classic 1920s story by F. Scott Fitzgerald about a man who is born in his eighties and ages backwards. A man, like any of us, unable to stop time. We follow his story set in New Orleans from the end of World War I in 1918, into the twenty-first century, following his journey that is as unusual as any man's life can be. Directed by David Fincher and starring Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett with Tilda Swinton, Taraji P. Henson, Jason Flemyng, Elias Koteas and Julia Ormond, "Benjamin Button," is a time traveler's tale of the people and places he bumps into along the way, the loves he loses and finds, the joys of life and the sadness of death, and what lasts beyond time.

Uncle Mxy 06-18-2008, 11:50 PM Anyone have any good/bad vibes about Hancock?
Vinny 06-19-2008, 03:18 AM Anyone have any good/bad vibes about Hancock?
Both, to be honest. I really want it to be good but am afraid it'll be annoying.
Glenn 06-19-2008, 08:29 AM I saw a poster at the theater last week that had both Deniro and Pacino on it.
What up wit dat?
Hopefully, it's not "Heat II".
MoTown 06-19-2008, 09:18 AM Anyone have any good/bad vibes about Hancock?
I think it will be good, but the movie confuses me a bit. The first trailer was mostly comedy, but it's being billed as an Action/Drama, not a comedy. Should be interesting, nonetheless.

By the way, I freaked out when I went to IMDB and looked up Pacino. The first thing listed is "Heat, (2009)". Thankfully, it's a video game.
Terrible title. Sounds like a video game announcement.
Vinny 06-19-2008, 02:58 PM I'm confused, did you guys not like Heat or do you just not want to see it bastardized by a cheesy sequel? I thought Heat was phenomenal.
Glenn 06-19-2008, 03:16 PM I thought it was disappointing.
I'm not a Val Kilmer fan and DeNiro and Pacino shared the screen for what, 10 minutes tops?
I own it (VHS, lol) but it just felt like it left a lot of potential on the table.
MoTown 06-19-2008, 04:20 PM I actually agree with you, Glenn. I wasn't a big fan of it, mostly for the reasons you stated.
Glenn prefered Pee Wee's Big Top Adventure.
MoTown 06-19-2008, 04:27 PM I never said my choice in movies is considered "great." I loved Kung Pow.
Glenn 06-19-2008, 04:28 PM I actually agree with you, Glenn. I wasn't a big fan of it, mostly for the reasons you stated.
"actually"?
Also,
Pee Wee's Big Adventure = tits
Big Top Pee Wee = terrible
Pee Wee's Big Top Adventure = nonexistent
MoTown 06-19-2008, 04:36 PM "Actually"
That was just a little shot at you basically stating no one ever agrees with your opinions. There's nothing wrong with that, it's just kinda your schtick.
I love that I got it wrong without even knowing.
Glenn 06-19-2008, 04:44 PM Mo, it doesn't bother me that no one agrees with me.
It's more entertaining this way.
MoTown 06-20-2008, 12:12 AM I figured. You wouldn't be Glenn if it did bother you.
Glenn = The Godfather of WTF
Timone 06-20-2008, 12:16 AM I think Glenn is disappointing.
Timone 06-20-2008, 08:29 AM I do agree though that Pee-wee's Big Adventure is the tits.
Black Dynamite 06-20-2008, 06:00 PM I actually agree with you, Glenn. I wasn't a big fan of it, mostly for the reasons you stated.
I loved the movie personally. Had one of my favorite lines in it.
A guy told me one time, "Don't let yourself get attached to anything you are not willing to walk out on in 30 seconds flat if you feel the heat around the corner.
and the classic
Alan Marciano: Why'd I get mixed up with that bitch?
Vincent Hanna: Cause she's got a great ass. And you got your head...all the way up it. Ferocious, aren't I? When I think of asses...a woman's ass...something comes out of me.
Neil McCauley: Roger Van Zant?
Roger Van Zant: Yeah, who's this?
Neil McCauley: You know who this is.
Roger Van Zant: Yes I do, yes I do. I sent a guy to deliver the package. He didn't call, is everything all right?
Neil McCauley: Tell you what, forget the money.
Roger Van Zant: What?
Neil McCauley: Forget the money.
Roger Van Zant: Wh...it's a lot of money. What are you doing? What do you mean, forget the money?
Neil McCauley: What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone.
Roger Van Zant: I don't understand.
Neil McCauley: 'Cause there's a dead man on the other end of this fuckin' line.
either way i loved the movie(I actually to like almost all of michael mann's films in spite of his very slow build ups) and need to get it on blu ray.
I never said my choice in movies is considered "great." I loved Kung Pow.
I loved kung pow myself. If you loved old kung fu movies, how could you not love it.
Vinny 06-20-2008, 06:34 PM either way i loved the movie(I actually to like almost all of michael mann's films in spite of his very slow build ups) and need to get it on blu ray.
I recently heard that Michael Mann never releases the same version of his films. The DVD and Tv versions are never the same cuts as seen in the theater and to a certain extent, the different DVD versions are different cuts. He supposedly spends alot of time perfecting each for the given medium.
I recently had a pretty cool experience of being behind the scenes of the filming of his latest movie, Public Enemies. It's basically the John Dillinger story, starring Johnny Depp and Christian Bale. I have alot to share, and have been meaning to post it in A-51 and still will when I get a chance (it should be a long post and thus I've been avoiding it to do things like watch all of the lame music videos thread, etc...). It was pretty cool, surreal even. I was in a position to see things that almost noone gets to see and from a unique perspective.
Timone 06-21-2008, 11:46 AM I do agree though that Pee-wee's Big Adventure is the tits.

Glenn 06-21-2008, 11:53 AM It really deserves it's own appreciation thread, as does Glengarry Glen Ross.
I've refrained for years.
Timone 06-21-2008, 11:54 AM To stay on topic, isn't there a new Pee-wee movie coming out next year?

Glenn 06-22-2008, 08:06 PM That's it. I'm watching PWBA tonight.
Timone 06-22-2008, 08:07 PM I watched it last night on youtube... they have the full movie up on there, it's 9 parts.
Timone 06-22-2008, 08:09 PM I want someone to tell me they're taking a bath... just so I can say, "OH REALLY? WHERE ARE THEY HOSING YOU DOWN?"
Glenn 06-22-2008, 08:11 PM DO YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO SHARE WITH THE REST OF US, AMAZING LARRY?
Timone 06-22-2008, 08:11 PM Why don't YOU make ME?
Because I don't make monkeys... I just train 'em!
Glenn 06-22-2008, 08:12 PM EVERYBODY I KNOW HAS A REALLY BIG BUT
(that one's kind of subtle)
Timone 06-22-2008, 08:14 PM C'mon Simone, let's talk about your big but...
Glenn 06-22-2008, 08:16 PM I love when Mr. Buxton screams after Francis chews the trick gum.
Spearmint or fruit?
Oh, fruit please!
Timone 06-22-2008, 08:17 PM The part where the guido calls Francis buxTON always got me for some reason.

Glenn 07-01-2008, 08:49 AM Anybody get a good read on "Step brothers"?
I'm sure it's probably awful, but I keep hoping that Wil Ferrell is going to return to his Old School form.
Actually, it's more a problem of whomever is writing the scripts that he's taking, not his acting, IMO.
Timone 07-01-2008, 08:59 AM I'm sure it's probably awful, but I keep hoping that Wil Ferrell is going to return to his Old School form.
He had a pretty solid cast around him in Old School.
Kstat 07-07-2008, 10:59 PM Hancock was ok. Not great, but also not bad. It was ok.
Certainly felt like the storyline had untapped potential. I think a sequel would be good.
Black Dynamite 07-10-2008, 03:21 PM I hate Wahlberg, but this Max Payne Movie looks pretty cool.

Also caught this news. Comic movies are about to flood through after Batman, Iron Man, Wanted, and Hulk cleaning up the whole summer. I think Batman may give more freedom for Movies like Wolverine to push the PG-13 rating as far as they can
MoTown 07-30-2008, 09:44 AM I just hope that they don't overdue the amount of Superhero Movies. I like them because that's what I grew up watching/reading. Don't ruin a good thing.
Black Dynamite 07-30-2008, 10:02 AM Yea Marvel is taking a really bad chance on Ant Man in order to do their Avengers come together movie thing. I can see him as an avenger, but he didn't have enough weight to hold his own in solo comics, doubt he does in a movie. They'd be better off doing a Samuel Jackson Nick Fury movie.

Too late, Hollywood realized that comic book movies are the current thing. Prepare for a million of them to flood the market in the next 3-4 years. It'll probably continue until people get sick of them and stop going. And yeah, I read Ant Man is only being made because they want to make the Avengers movie. I honestly know nothing about Ant Man so I have no opinion on it, but I read somewhere that it was going to be one of those funny action movies or something along those lines.
Wikipedia-
Edgar Wright plans to direct an action-adventure film with some humorous elements, insisting that Ant-Man will be a comedy like Fantastic Four or a spoof like Hancock (2008 film).[1] The script has been written by Wright and Joe Cornish, who plan to include Henry Pym and Scott Lang as major characters, with Pym as Ant-Man in the 60's in Tales to Astonish style, and a flashforward to Lang as Ant-Man's successor in the 80's/90's.[2]
On February 9, Wright said that the project was in "a holding pattern" while the script was revised, with casting yet to begin. The director reported that he would have news for the film in a few months.[3] He has been researching nanotechnology for the film.[4] As of March 2008, Wright told Empire magazine that a second draft of the script is being written. Known for being a comedic writer, the director noted that the film would not be overtly comedic, but that it would be "more of a full-on action adventure sci-fi film but with a comedic element."[5]
In June 2008, a film about The Avengers was announced for a release in 2011, with Ant-Man to be part of the superhero team.[6]

Zekyl 07-30-2008, 10:26 AM William Key, USA Today
"What if I told you we were putting together a team?"
That's what Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) teases in the closing minutes of The Incredible Hulk. But Stark's plans come as no surprise to comic-book fans.
They have been salivating ever since Marvel Studios announced plans to develop a team of superheroes to appear first in solo films, then unite as an on-screen team.
Iron Man director Jon Favreau, who is developing a sequel to be released in April 2010, says Marvel's plan is "to team up the heroes for The Avengers, which is made up of all of the Marvel heroes they have the rights to."
Favreau says the team's lineup has changed throughout the years, "but the ones Marvel is talking about now are Captain America, Hulk, Thor, Ant-Man and Iron Man. I would love to see that."
FIND MORE STORIES IN: World War II | Osama bin Laden | Nazi | Adolf Hitler | Communist | Dead | X-Men | Samuel L. Jackson | Incredible Hulk | Last Stand | Am Legend | Norse | Stan Lee | Elektra | Marvel Studios | Avengers | Jon Favreau | Thor | Fabio | Jack Kirby | Man From U.N.C.L.E | Joe Simon | Ant-Man | Red Skull | Nick Fury | Sgt. Fury | Tony Stark/Iron Man | Zak Penn
A scene following the closing credits of Iron Man introduced Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, who will be instrumental in bringing the heroes together.
Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios' president of production, confirms that he's working toward the day when "heroes can cross into each other's adventures and occasionally team up if there's a foe too great for any one of them to handle."
He and screenwriter Zak Penn (X2: X-Men United, Elektra, X-Men: The Last Stand, The Incredible Hulk) are uniting to get Avengers in theaters by summer 2011.
Here's what Stan Lee, 85, who created the Hulk, Iron Man, Thor, Ant-Man and Nick Fury characters, and Joe Simon, 94, creator of Captain America, had to say about the origins of the next wave of comic-book characters headed for the big screen.
Thor
Release date: Solo film to be released June 4, 2010
Screenwriter: Mark Protosevich (I Am Legend)
Origin: Disabled medical student Donald Blake discovers a mighty hammer that transforms him into his alter ego, the Norse warrior Thor. Lee recalls meeting years ago with Fabio, the romance-novel cover boy, about playing the part. "Someone brought him up to my office to see if he could play Thor," Lee says. "Visually, he would have been good, but in those days we weren't even in a position to do a movie." Lee says Thor "will have to be someone big and strong and kind of blondish. And there should be a nobility."
Ant-Man
Release date: Solo film, but timing not yet available
Director: Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead)
Screenwriters: Wright and Joe Cornish
Origin: Biochemist Hank Pym can alter his size as well as communicate with and control insects. Ant-Man creator Stan Lee recently had lunch with Wright to discuss the direction of the film. "There's never been a hero like this in the movies," Lee says. "I did one comic book called The Man in the Ant Hill about a guy who shrunk down and there were ants or bees chasing him. That sold so well that I thought making him into a superhero might be fun."
The First Avenger: Captain America
Release date: Solo film to be released May 6, 2011
Origin: Captain America made his debut in 1941 as lowly U.S. Army Pvt. Steve Rogers. "We had him peeling spuds," creator Joe Simon recalls. "The government shot him up with a super-serum, which made him the first of what was to be an army of superheroes." Simon and comic-book artist Jack Kirby, who died in 1994, created the character during World War II as an all-American adversary to Adolf Hitler. "We were a war-consumed nation, just like today," he says. "Hitler was a comic foil for our character, and every comic sold out that first year." Simon now suggests that Osama bin Laden might be an appropriate foe for Captain America to pursue. But Captain America more likely will take on his most famous adversary, the Red Skull — a Nazi (later turned Communist) introduced by Simon in Captain America Comics #1.
Nick Fury
Release date: Not intended as a solo film, but character will appear in The Avengers universe in summer 2011
Origin: Lee introduced the character in 1963 in the war magazine Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandos. "It did very well," Lee says. "But after a couple of years, I got bored with it and wanted to kill it. Years later, I got a lot of fan mail asking, 'What happened to Sgt. Fury?' In those days, there was a popular show called The Man From U.N.C.L.E., so I brought Nick back as a colonel for S.H.I.E.L.D.: Supreme Headquarters, International Espionage, Law-Enforcement Division."
MoTown 07-30-2008, 10:40 AM Stan Lee looks to be in pretty good shape for being 85.

Wizzle 08-18-2008, 03:07 PM Harry Potter film pulls vanishing act
Aug. 17, 2008, 2:49 PM EST
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Maybe Harry Potter should have brought a note from his parents saying he would be missing school.
Warner Bros. gave Harry the school year off, announcing last week it was bumping the sixth movie in the series from fall to next summer. But Entertainment Weekly — which shares the studio's parent company, Time Warner Inc. — was unaware, featuring "Potter" star Daniel Radcliffe on the cover of its Aug. 22-29 fall-preview issue.
The magazine leads off the issue with a six-page spread pegged to "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," which Warner Bros. on Thursday moved from its Nov. 21 release date to July 17, 2009.

Well its a cycle of borrowed material. Almost every Watchmen character is borrowed from another character. For example.
Rorschach (IPA: /ʁoɐʃax/) is a fictional anti-hero featured in the acclaimed 1986 DC Comics series Watchmen.
Rorschach was created by Watchmen writer Alan Moore with artist Dave Gibbons but, as with some of the characters in the series, he was derived from Charlton Comics characters, in this case The Question and Mr. A, created by Steve Ditko.

I get your meaning, the characters are derivative, with night owl being batman, manhattan being superduperman and the story itself is a first cousin of an episode of the outer limits. I just meant the way those elements were pulled together to shake up the way a comic book hero story could be told was kind of seminal.

Black Dynamite 10-30-2008, 12:26 PM Sho'nuff! Samuel L. Jackson is in The Last Dragon
Source: The Hollywood Reporter
October 30, 2008
Samuel L. Jackson is set to star as the bad guy in Columbia Pictures' remake of Berry Gordy's 1985 cult classic The Last Dragon, says The Hollywood Reporter. Jackson will play Sho'nuff, the Shogun of Harlem, a role played in the original by the late Julius Carry.
"I'm a huge fan of the original and look forward to bringing Sho'Nuff into the 21st century," Jackson said.
Writing the screenplay as well as producing is Dallas Jackson, who heads up the urban family label DJ Classicz with Davis. Wu-Tang Clan's RZA is co-producing.
The updated plot will be along the same lines of the original, centering on young martial arts student Leroy Green in his quest through the streets of New York to achieve the highest level of martial arts accomplishment, known as the Last Dragon. Those who achieve the high ranking possess the Glow, making them the greatest fighter alive.
The project will take a new look at "Last Dragon" coinciding with the 50th anniversary of Motown next year. Davis Entertainment's John Davis and Gordy's son Kerry Gordy are producing.

A Sequel to The Phantom in the Works
Source:The Associated Press
December 15, 2008
An Australian production company on Monday announced it had secured the rights to The Phantom Legacy, a follow-up to the 1996 film, The Phantom, which starred Billy Zane as the masked hero who fights evil from his jungle headquarters.
According to The Associated Press, the adaptation is expected to cost $87 million and will focus on "the Father/Son relationship, and what it means to be The Phantom," scriptwriter Tim Boyle said in a statement. "The film will be set in the present day and will deal with the concept of destiny."
Producer Bruce Sherlock, who also served as executive producer of the first "Phantom" movie, said the new film will be a marked improvement over its predecessor.
"It has the makings of a blockbuster," Sherlock said. "There's some surprises that will thrill the 'Phantom' fans worldwide." Sherlock's Sydney-based Sherlock Symington Productions won the rights to the film.
The movie will likely be shot entirely in Australia, with production set to begin within six to nine months, Sherlock said. Producers are in talks with several "top talent" Australian and American actors, Sherlock said. He declined to provide names.

Uncle Mxy 12-16-2008, 08:22 PM The Phantom could've been a great movie if they'd taken a Phantom 2040 spin on it, or otherwise pushed for a better director and script. Billy Zane was the perfect casting choice... about the only thing that would've been better is if he'd played Diabolik (a movie that -should- be remade)..
Timone 12-16-2008, 09:27 PM Milk looks gay.
You could've said gay if you wanted to. No one was going to stop ya.
Zekyl 12-20-2008, 12:21 PM Its about time they included Gambit in an X-Men movie.
I just saw the Wolverine trailer online. I have to admit I was shocked to see they were putting Gambit in the movie. The only thing is that Gambit is sort of an anti-hero in a movie about an anti-hero.
The choice of Schrieber as Sabertooth is interesting at least. From the trailer they seem to be taking the comic's angle that Wolverine almost never beats Sabertooth. It will be interesting to see how they pull that off in the movie.
Geek moment of the day...

A judge has denied a Warner Bros. motion to dismiss 20th Century Fox’s lawsuit over Warners’ right to make a film based on the graphic novel "Watchmen."
Ruling is potentially a huge victory for Fox, which could wind up as a profit participant in the film, and could cost Warners millions considering the film’s box office prospects. However, Fox’s legal team says it isn’t looking for monetary compensation and instead wants to prevent the big-budget film from being released altogether.
At the heart of Fox’s suit, filed in February, is the contention that it never ceded rights to the property. And according to the federal Judge Gary Allen Feess, Fox retained distribution rights to the graphic novel penned by Alan Moore and illustrated by Dave Gibbons through a 1991 claim. Furthermore, Feess appears to agree that under a 1994 turnaround deal with producer Larry Gordon, Gordon acquired an option to acquire Fox’s remaining interest in "Watchmen," which was never exercised, thereby leaving Fox with its rights under the 1994 agreement.
Surprisingly, Fox said it would rather see the film killed instead of collecting a percentage of the box office.
"When you have copyright infringement, there are some damages you never recover," said a source close to the litigation.
Fox spent more than $1 million developing "Watchmen" but had not previously taken legal action against the project, which had been in development at Paramount several years ago.
The case resembles to some extent the copyright suit, also involving Warners, over "The Dukes of Hazzard," in which Feess also presided. The studio agreed in 2005 to pay producer Robert B. Clark at least $17.5 million for infringing on the copyright to his 1974 United Artists film "Moonrunners," which became the basis of the Warners TV skein "The Dukes of Hazzard."
Warners settled the "Hazzard" suit while faced with a preliminary injunction, issued by Feess, which would have canceled the release of the feature and seen all copies impounded by federal marshals.
Black Dynamite 12-28-2008, 12:20 AM kinda pathetic that we may get robbed of the movie out of pure spite on Fox's part.
Black Dynamite 12-28-2008, 12:28 AM Bullock Joining Stallone's Expendables?
Source: Shannon
December 24, 2008
JoBlo.com is reporting that Sylvester Stallone is pursuing Sandra Bullock to co-star in his new action film, The Expendables. Sly so far has cast Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Forest Whitaker and Randy Couture in the film about a team of mercenaries on a mission to overthrow a South American dictator.
Stallone and Bullock starred together in Demolition Man. The site says that "Bullock would play a government agent (paired up with Whitaker) on the hunt for Stallone's crew of hired guns."
LOL and i'd watch it just for laughs.
Yeah I can agree with that. 80s action stars, Li, Whitaker and MMA... wow.
kinda pathetic that we may get robbed of the movie out of pure spite on Fox's part.
:cogent:
I obviously don't know all the details, but you wonder if they started the legal process while the film was being made or waited until now.
Black Dynamite 12-28-2008, 08:59 AM They filed the Lawsuit awhile ago when the movie was halfway done. I have no issue with the lawsuit, what I do have issue with is the "we want the rights back solely to fuck over anybody ever seeing the movie since we failed at making it". Then they'd probably do their own shitty version or just as bad decide to try and force snyder to re-shoot it and cut out true to the comics parts of it. To be fair Fox did distribute Fight Club, but i dont trust them to let Snyder put out the movie he wants like WB let's him now(a right he had to earn with them).
Black Dynamite 12-29-2008, 06:59 PM Fox to Seek Order Delaying Watchmen Release
Source: The Associated Press
December 29, 2008
An attorney for 20th Century Fox says the studio will continue to seek an order delaying the release of Watchmen, according to The Associated Press.
U.S. District Court Judge Gary Feess last week agreed with Fox that Warner Bros. had infringed its copyright by developing and shooting the film, scheduled for release March 6.
Feess said Monday he plans to hold a trial Jan. 20 to decide remaining issues.
Fox claims it never fully relinquished story rights from its deal made in the late 1980s, and sued Warner Bros. in February. Warner Bros. contended Fox isn't entitled to distribution.
Warner Bros.' attorney said Monday he didn't know if an appeal was coming, but thinks a trial is necessary and a settlement unlikely.

Watchmen featurette, pretty damn cool look at the whole idea from comic novel to movie. Maybe warner will do a heavy media blitz of Watchmen to put Fox on the hot seat with their efforts to stop it.
I'm watching the Eagles-Giants game and I just saw a Watchmen commercial at the break. On Fox.
geerussell 01-15-2009, 11:25 PM There'll be peace in the valley. Fox laid down with Warner. Watchmen is a go.

Glenn 03-25-2009, 10:06 PM 'Three Stooges' coming together at MGM
Wed Mar 25, 2009, 02:54 PM ET • Source: Hollywood Reporter
Nyuk-nyuk-nyuk.
MGM and the Farrelly brothers are finally slapping together their high-profile cast for "The Three Stooges," a comedy project the filmmakers have been developing for years. Sean Penn is set to play Larry, and Jim Carrey is in negotiations to play Curly. Benicio del Toro is a rumored possibility for the brothers' taciturn leader, Moe.
The studio is looking to start production in the fall for a 2010 release slot.
The project was originally set up at Columbia, which produced the 1930s Stooges shorts. C3 Entertainment Inc., which holds the licensing rights to the Stooges brand, then sold the feature rights to Warner Bros. in 2001 for the Farrellys to write and produce the movie. Eventually, Warner Bros. let the rights lapse and MGM's Mary Parent scooped them up along with the Farrellys' continuing participation.
Peter and Bobby Farrelly wrote the script, which Bobby has referenced as "Dumb, Dumber & Dumbest," and will produce with Bradley Thomas and Charlie Wessler. Earl and Robert Benjamin of C3 will executive produce.
The film is not a biopic but a fictional treatment that maintains the Stooges' gleeful slap schtick updated for a modern milieu.
Originally constructed as four separate shorts, the feature screenplay has since been streamlined into a single narrative. Included in the story line is an opening that shows the Stooges as kids in an orphanage, a device that will require some "Benjamin Button"-style visual trickery to place the adult actors' heads on child actors' bodies.
The Stooges maintain remarkably global brand recognition, and their shorts, films and cartoons are still broadcast in 30 countries. The Farrelly brothers' latest comedy "The Heartbreak Kid" grossed $124 million worldwide.
Penn is repped by CAA, Carrey by CAA and the Miller Co.

Zip Goshboots 03-25-2009, 10:08 PM Just say no to Benicio Del Toro in this movies. His comic talents, if you ask me, rate somewhere between George Will and Jeffrey Dahmer.
MoTown 03-25-2009, 10:40 PM It's sad that these people make millions of dollars and haven't come up with an original idea since 1984.
Uncle Mxy 03-27-2009, 10:27 AM I'd feel better if they were making a movie about Iggy and thr Stooges.
Zip Goshboots 04-09-2009, 08:31 AM I just can't get over how the fuck you cast Benicio Del Toro as Moe. Del Toro is about as funny as sticking your cock in an alligator. He has the personality of a roll of toilet paper. His face looks like it's been through a meat grinder.
I'm sorry, but as the world's #1 fan of the Three Stooges (except for the shit they put out after Shemp croaked), I am going to have to boycott this one.
Glenn 04-09-2009, 08:50 AM It does seem like a stretch. I'm surprised that they didn't pull a Charley's Angels and go with someone like Chris Rock or Chris Tucker as Moe to broaden the appeal.
Zekyl 04-09-2009, 06:50 PM Jim carrey can pull it off. Doubt the other two greatly
Black Dynamite 04-13-2009, 08:46 PM If Jim Carrey pulls it off, the other two just have to be half as good, they can be that good at least. Will they? dont know.
On a side note i'm reading the cast listing for Stallone's new movie The Exependables(it's a few throwbacks) and was surprised to see Straight to video martial arts movie star Gary Daniels was still alive. Then I find out he's starring in this:

MOLA1 your opinion of hollywood finally butchering your favorite fighting game?
Are there movies worth being excited about anymore? I learned to leave my hype at the door a couple years ago. It's the only chance I have of not being pissed about a movie, and even considering that I usally want the 1.5 hours of my life back. I'm trying to think of a new movie I saw in the last long while that I liked, and I'm drawing a complete blank. I've also been slacking on movies a bit lately, but still.
DrRay11 04-13-2009, 10:07 PM The last movie I saw that I really liked was Pan's Labyrinth. That was a while ago.
Exactly. Sure I've seen some stuff that I don't totally hate, but there's not much that be willing to see again even way down the road.
Zekyl 04-13-2009, 11:45 PM In other words, there are some decent movies but nothing phenomenal anymore?

Vinny 07-02-2009, 01:52 AM The climactic scenes in Public Enemies were all filmed right outside where I work in Chicago. They took over our business and put the video crew in there and alot of the lesser actors (ie Yes: Leelee Sobieski, no: Johnny Depp). It was an awesome experience. They filmed overnight for 6 days and I was in there every night keeping an eye on things.

Uncle Mxy 09-13-2009, 09:49 AM Crank 2: High Volatage
Plot Synopsis
Hitman Chev Chelios (Statham) launches himself on an electrifying chase through Los Angeles in pursuit of the Chinese mobster who has stolen his nearly indestructible heart and replaced it with a battery-powered heart that requires regular jolts of electricity to keep working.Seriously?
It was a blast -- another movie with comic book action. And I do love me some Amy Smart, too...
I love how at the end, they fry Statham's face so they could do a Crank 3 with a different actor if Statham decides it's full of shit. The outtakes from the end credits are great!
Cross 09-13-2009, 02:31 PM i thought it was too unrealistic..amy smart is a babe though

I too found the movie awesome. I know it was an action movie, but it was so over-the-top that I laughed my ass off for most of the movie. There were actually tears in my eyes from laughing so hard at certain points.
geerussell 10-16-2009, 03:36 PM Consumer advisory warning: Nicholas Cage is seriously seriously strapped for cash (http://www.tmz.com/2009/10/16/nic-cage-nicolas-business-manager-lawsuit-money-samuel-levin/). I see a string of bad movies for big paychecks in his future.
Timone 10-16-2009, 03:52 PM ^ Nick Cage talk belongs in the Tool of the Day thread.
Glenn 10-16-2009, 03:54 PM Who has more talent, Cage or Keanu?
Uncle Mxy 10-16-2009, 03:58 PM Who wastes more talent, Cage or Keanu?
Cage and Cage.
Who has a better list of movies though? Cage or Kenau?
Timone 10-17-2009, 11:01 PM I'll take Keanu over Cage for Hard Ball alone. That movie cracks me up.
And I'd bet that you can list more Kenau movies you'd re-watch on cable than Cage ones (to steal a Bill Simmons gimmick). At least that's the case with me.
Uncle Mxy 10-18-2009, 11:05 AM Cage movies I'd rewatch (which doesn't mean that I haven't liked some of his other movies, but this is strictly "if it's on the tube, I probably wouldn't click to change it"):
Fast Times At Ridgemont High (sure, Cage only plays a bit part :) )
Valley Girl (Deborah Foreman -- yessir!)
The Cotton Club
Peggy Sue Got Married (a movie I'd watch _despite_ Cage's voice)
Raising Arizona
Honeymoon In Vegas (not to be confused with Leaving Las Vegas)
Red Rock West
Guarding Tess
Lord Of War
the first half of Snake Eyes (De Palma does a great thriller in the first half of the movie, and a lousy action flick for the second)
The Rock
It Could Happen To You
Keanu movies I'd rewatch (again, a subset of what I've enjoyed):
Matrix
Matrix 2
Matrix 3
Speed
Much Ado About Nothing (despite Keanu)
Dracula (for Monica Bellucci)
Point Break
Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure
geerussell 01-11-2010, 10:02 PM Spider-Man 4 officially dead. (http://www.newsarama.com/film/Spider-Man-4-Cancelled-100111.html) Sony pulled the plug on the 2011 Raimi movie and is going for a 2012 Peter Parker in high school reboot without Raimi, Maguire and Dunst.
Pharaoh 01-12-2010, 02:56 AM They're gonna reboot Spiderman?
Already?
Fuck - just leave it for 5 years and only have Spidey appear in cross overs.
Uncle Mxy 01-12-2010, 11:20 AM Wasn't the idea for them to do TWO more Spider-Man movies back-to-back?
geerussell 01-12-2010, 04:03 PM They had all kinds of plans but in the end Raimi and the studio couldn't see eye to eye creatively, in particular on the question of what villains to include. Raimi wanted the third movie to be just the sandman, the studio made him add venom. He wanted the fourth movie to be the vulture and the studio drew a hard line on adding another villain they thought would boost sales.
Nobody was going to give so they all walked away.
MoTown 01-13-2010, 09:36 PM That really sucks. I'm skeptical about a reboot. This was my favorite comic book film franchise - I'm worried that picking a high school Peter Parker will be tougher than they think. I'm hoping they go the route of the Spectacular Spider-Man and have him already as Spidey instead of doing another origin story 10 years after the first film origin story.
However, they can't do any worse than Dunst as Mary Jane. Hopefully they have Parker go after Gwen Stacy instead in this series.
Zekyl 01-14-2010, 10:11 PM However, they can't do any worse than Dunst as Mary Jane. Hopefully they have Parker go after Gwen Stacy instead in this series.
Couldn't agree more. I always thought she was a terrible choice. She is just not a good actress.
Uncle Mxy 01-15-2010, 08:07 AM Mary Jane is supposed to be all about Peter Parker hitting the jackpot.
I never got that "hit the jackpot" vibe for Kirsten Dunst's MJ.
They would've done better putting a redhead wig on Elizabeth Banks.
geerussell 01-19-2010, 09:57 PM They've got a director (http://www.deadline.com/hollywood/toldja-sony-pictures-to-officially-announce-marc-webb-as-spider-man-reboot-director/) now, don't know enough about him to say if this is good news or not.
CULVER CITY, Calif., January , 2010 – Marc Webb, the director of the Golden Globe nominated Best Picture (500) Days of Summer, will direct the next chapter in the Spider-Man franchise, set to hit theaters summer 2012, it was jointly announced today by Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios.
