Wizzle 06-28-2008, 03:59 PM No bad feelings between ex-Tiger Grilli, Leyland by Graham Couch Friday June 27, 2008, 11:32 PM DETROIT -- Jason Grilli isn't too worried about his reception this weekend at Comerica Park. "I've been booed here for two-and-a-half years, what's another three days?" Grilli asked Friday, this time from the visiting clubhouse. Grilli, traded by the Tigers to the Colorado Rockies in late April, returns, in his words, as "Darth Vader" after published comments he made more a month ago drew the sharp tongue of manager Jim Leyland. The 31-year-old reliever was quoted by USA Today on May 20 as saying the Tigers' clubhouse was "stale" and "stagnant," and "It seems like they kind of broke up our team chemistry when they got rid of Sean Casey." Detroit Manager Jim Leyland shot back: "Jason Grilli isn't here any longer because Jason Grilli didn't pitch good under pressure situations and didn't pitch very well in Detroit." Friday, any bad feelings -- which both sides said never existed -- were apparently gone. "I love the people here. Familiar faces. Everybody's been welcoming me with open arms," said Grilli, who didn't pitch in Friday's 7-1 Tigers win. " ... I don't harbor any ill will toward any one person in the whole front office. I hugged and shook Leyland and (Dave) Dombrowski's hands and thanked them for the opportunity when I left." "I like Jason Grilli a lot," Leyland said Friday, "always have, always will. That's yesterday's breakfast. I hope I get a chance to talk to him, say hi. He made a statement. I made a statement, but I have no problem with Jason Grilli." The move, whatever the circumstances, has benefited Grilli on the mound. He's 2-0 with a 2.82 earned-run average and 26 strikeouts in 22 1/3 innings for Colorado. Grilli spent parts of four seasons with Detroit after being called up from Toledo in September 2005. He was 0-1 with a 3.29 ERA in 13 2/3 innings with the Tigers this season. Jethro34 07-05-2008, 12:15 PM He allowed 4 earned in one inning yesterday, I think. That crazy 18-17 game vs the Marlins. |
