Maybe they can get a coach that will get Nash and Barbosa to play defense, or at least learn how to defend a pick and roll properly, or at least against a PG with a suspect jumper.

I think Nash is a little old to be learning how to play defense. Bill Simmons has a great article about the Suns on ESPN right now. Basically calls them the 4th best team to not win anything. Something along the lines of "critically acclaimed". Also reviews the past 4 seasons and its easy to see why they didn't win shit. Basically lost Joe Johnson for no reason, draft picks sold off, terrible free agent signings, etc.

He needs to find a team even softer than the one he has right now, so year toronto is probably a great fit.

Bill: "What, Phoenix? Are they still paying you?"
Jalen: "Yeah, under the table."
Bill: "Yeah, just like at Michigan."

That's the funniest thing I ever read. I missed that one somewhere along the way.

So it sounds like D'Antoni to Chicago is imminent.

I wonder if they have discussed having the Suns "trade" him to the Bulls?

He's got two years left on his existing contract, and it seems like that could work for both parties. Maybe something like a 2nd round pick?

I thought that was illegal now.

Nash expects D’Antoni to stay despite speculation
3 minutes ago

PHOENIX (AP)—Despite rampant speculation that Mike D’Antoni is headed to Chicago or New York, Phoenix point guard Steve Nash expects his coach to be back on the Suns’ bench next season.

Beyond that, the two-time NBA MVP had little to say about the Suns’ ongoing coaching saga during a charity appearance Friday.

“This is the last thing I’m going to say about our coaching situation: Mike’s my coach,” Nash said. “So I expect to see Mike back here next year. And I know there’s a lot of stuff going on right now, but Mike’s my coach. I love playing for him. I expect to see him back in October.”

Nash’s remarks came after he helped officials from utility Arizona Public Service and the Suns dedicate a refurbished basketball court at Florence Crittenton of Arizona, which offers programs for at-risk girls.

D’Antoni, who has two years worth $8.5 million remaining on his contract, reportedly has been courted by the Chicago Bulls and the New York Knicks. Earlier this week, the Suns granted D’Antoni permission to speak to other teams even as they expressed hope he would remain with them.

Yes, Mike D'Antoni now coaches the Knicks. That may be the funniest outcome possible after Isiah left.

I just LOL'd reading a story from one of the New York papers about how D'Antoni will be using LeBron in his offense (they speculate that he'll be a PF).

I'm sure that Eddy Curry and Jerome James really fit into D'Antoni ball, uh-huh. Starbury, too...

Kerr flies to Detroit to interview Porter for Suns' coaching job
By Marc Stein
ESPN.com

Updated: May 16, 2008, 12:05 AM ET

The Phoenix Suns have begun their coaching search in earnest by interviewing Detroit Pistons assistant coach Terry Porter.

Suns president Steve Kerr told ESPN.com that he flew in and out of Detroit on Thursday to meet with Porter, his former teammate for two seasons in San Antonio.

Porter, who posted a 71-92 record in a two-season stint as Milwaukee's head coach from 2003-05, is believed to the first to formally meet with the Suns.

Other candidates who have been mentioned prominently are Suns assistant general manager Vinny Del Negro, part-time Utah Jazz coach Jeff Hornacek, ESPN analyst Mark Jackson, Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Kurt Rambis, three-time NBA head coach Paul Silas, Boston Celtics assistant coach Tom Thibodeau.

Jackson was to interview with the Suns on Friday, ESPN confirmed.

Houston media reported Thursday that the Rockets have given permission to the Suns to interview assistant coach Elston Turner, who was to interview next week, according to the Houston Chronicle.

"I'm excited," Turner said, according to the Chronicle. "I'm looking forward to it, very much looking forward to talking about it and seeing if I'm the kind of guy they're looking for."

Porter had not surfaced in speculation before Thursday, suggesting that -- as Kerr warned recently in an interview with The Arizona Republic -- the early guesses in circulation about the Suns' pecking order are just that.

"I don't think anybody has a clue," Kerr told the newspaper. "I have my list."

Kerr has also made it clear that he plans to be "thorough and methodical" and might need "a month" to settle on a replacement for new Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni.

"There's not a huge rush because we're not one of five or six teams out there looking for someone," Kerr said. "So we don't feel like we're competing with other people."

Yet Kerr has never hidden his fondness for Porter, calling him "one of the best people I've ever met in the league" in a 2003 column Kerr wrote for Yahoo! Sports.

This is Porter's second season as an assistant to Flip Saunders in Detroit. He spent one season as an assistant to Rick Adelman in Sacramento in 2002-03 before landing the Milwaukee job, taking the Bucks to the playoffs in his first season (41-41) before a 30-52 mark in 2004-05 resulted in his dismissal.

In an interview in Thursday's editions of The Chicago Tribune, Kerr said: "What's interesting is that there are no obvious candidates now. It's not like there are really prominent former head coaches out there. Once D'Antoni was off the market, it kind of changed things."

rambis will end up as phoenix's coach. his background fits their style more IMO. then again, i guess it depends on what type of team kerr is trying to build now.

Didn't they call it the "remove useless kiss asses who aren't named Igor Kokoskov" theory?

Otherwise his biggest contibution was telling everybody how much better his bulls squad was.
