Glenn 04-29-2008, 12:30 PM I hope MOLA doesn't mind me posting this (http://events.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=events.detail&eventID=422563.97304&hashcode=8EF09769-7841-464F-8906-8E118F1C1B00) here.

Does that "D" look familiar?
MoTown 04-29-2008, 12:38 PM I've heard some of his shit. It's really fucking good. If you can make it, seriously check it out.
He has some samples in there as well.
Zekyl 04-29-2008, 06:16 PM I've been debating coming up from Toledo for it. I have a group of friends that are extremely into music, they'd love it.
Tahoe 04-29-2008, 06:29 PM I've been debating coming up from Cleveland for it. I have a group of friends that are extremely into music, they'd love it.
Well Cleveland is a great place for Rock, thats for sure.
DrRay11 04-29-2008, 07:28 PM Would be a haul for me... If we opened, hey, that would be another story but I'll probably have to catch you another time MOLA.

MOLA1 05-03-2008, 01:43 AM What up! Thanks for the plug Glendizzle. I appreciate it! We'll be doing more shows as the year progresses and you're all more than welcome to come and check it out. I think you'll dig it if you're in to Hardcore, Oldschool or Conscious Hip-Hop or even heavy Rock. I'm really excited because I think we have a legitimate shot to get signed. Come on through if you get the chance!
DrRay11 05-04-2008, 01:30 PM It sounds awesome, I am really curious as to your style. I'm definitely looking forward to it and will follow it.
Zekyl 05-04-2008, 01:35 PM Is there anywhere we can listen to any of it in that-there internet MOLA?
Glenn 05-12-2008, 02:25 PM Did anyone go to the show?
Zekyl 05-12-2008, 10:03 PM Couldn't :( But eventually I plan on making it to one.
MOLA1 05-27-2008, 12:31 AM Sorry y'all, I've been busy. We don't have anything recorded, but as soon as we do, I'll hook everyone up with some tunes. We have another show lined up. We'll be performing at Fifth Ave Billiards in Royal Oak on Tues, June 10. For more info, check out www.myspace.com/definitionband.
I'm pumped. The last show was AWESOME. We covered Voodoo Child and it was well received. I was particularly nervous considering the fact that it's such a masterpiece. We had a great turnout and we hope to have an even bigger turnout on 6-10. Come through if you can! If I can get enough people to show, we might be able to have a regular gig there and I love that place so please come check it out!

DrRay11 06-08-2008, 09:44 AM That is some fucking sick art. Did you take care of that yourself?
Cross 06-08-2008, 11:29 AM that poster is fucking sick.
MOLA1 06-13-2008, 10:18 AM Yessir! That's a MOLA1 special right there. Thanks for the props!!!
I need some WTF'ers to come check out my show fools! Come on out!
I'll keep everyone posted.
Varsity came through along with about 80-100 peeps,
I need some more WTFDetroit peeps at the next one.
DrRay11 06-13-2008, 05:38 PM I want to hear some stuff MOLA, for sure. I am a ways away though, hopefully something works out where I'm already in the area.
Timone 06-22-2008, 08:06 AM I'll make it out to a show when I'm not busy with my band.
So like, get another gig already so I can check out the band.
MOLA1 08-13-2008, 11:30 PM We have a show at The Magic Bag
in Ferndale on Friday, September 5th.
Please try to come out and bring as many people as you can! We're headlining this gig and I really need a big ass crowd. I promise we won't disappoint. We put on a great show.
Well, I finally have some music up on the page. The recording isn't the best as we put it together quickly, but it's a lot easier to have people come and see us if they know what the music is going to sound like.
We're going to be putting the album together when I get back from my wedding and honeymoon next month. Please come check us out if you can!
Will be there. Can guarantee bringing one person right now. Strong possibility of 2 more. Potentially a few more than that.
Don't suck.
MOLA1 08-14-2008, 12:15 AM Don't suck.
LMFAO, good looks Fool. Thanks for trying to make it there!
You'll have to introduce yourself as Fool, ha!
Still, much better than introducing yourself as Sir Douche Baggins.
theMUHMEshow 08-14-2008, 12:27 AM I am going to do everything I can to make it out to this fucker... I wanna see Mola stop a hole in that shithouse...
Zekyl 08-14-2008, 02:24 AM I can't promise anything, but if I'm caught up on school and work I want to make the trip from Toledo. If I do, I'll bring a couple people with.
MOLA1 08-14-2008, 10:32 AM Thanks Zek.
As for the rest of yous. Tell your friends. Tell ALL your friends there's a new band in town.
[smilie=kamalone.gi:
How much of your own stuff will you be doing and how much of this stuff will be cover? What did you guys play the first time?
MOLA1 08-25-2008, 07:14 PM How much of your own stuff will you be doing and how much of this stuff will be cover? What did you guys play the first time?
We're only going to be playing 1 cover, a remake of Jimi Hendrix's most famous recording of Voodoo Chile: "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)". Other than that, it's all originals. We played about 7 songs at our first show. We played 8 at our second and we'll be playing 10 next Friday at The Magic Bag show.
The song on our myspace is a God awful recording, but our band just wanted to get something up that people can hear and say, "Oh that's what live cello, drums and rap sounds like". The unfortunate thing is that "Where the Sidewalk Ends" is a pretty chill song compared to our other stuff and isn't really indicative of how we sound live.
If you came to see us, you'd find that we play some pretty heavy shit as my Electric Cello player uses various pedals including distortion and wah-wah, which enables us to do a song like Voodoo Child. When I get back from my wedding, we'll probably be covering "Come Together" by The Beatles and maybe even something else.
For now it's 1 cover and 9 originals. I guarantee a fun time.
The band playing the middle slot is The Pathe Jassi World Music Experience. Guitarist Sean Blackman will be joining Pathe Jassi.

TOMORROW NIGHT BABY!!!!
MOLA1 10-08-2008, 10:38 AM We're playing at Fifth Ave in Royal Oak tonight. Sorry for the short notice. I've had a lot of things going on in my life, some positive, some negative. I'll give y'all more notice in the future.
Zekyl 10-08-2008, 11:21 AM Damn, I'm already going to be at St. Andrews for a Bayside show. I actually had a night off for once, too.

If I still lived in Royal Oak I would definitely show up. Good luck.
theMUHMEshow 10-10-2008, 04:41 AM Mo, I got fucked and had to watch bullshit NBA team in this city or I would have been there.
When does the CD drop?
MOLA1 10-10-2008, 10:43 AM Damn, I'm already going to be at St. Andrews for a Bayside show. I actually had a night off for once, too.
It's all good. We're playing at Fifth Ave again on the 22nd and also at Black Lotus on Nov 1st.
If I still lived in Royal Oak I would definitely show up. Good luck.
Thanks Chris, I appreciate it!
Same set list M1?
I believe you heard about 8 or 9 songs out of the 11 we played at Magic Bag. At Fifth this week, we did about 15. We're going to have about 15-20 songs at the Fifth Ave shows. It'll probably be 8 songs, 20 min break, 7 songs, 20 min break then finish with 5 songs or so.
Mo, I got fucked and had to watch bullshit NBA team in this city or I would have been there.
When does the CD drop?
Shows at Fifth Ave are every Weds night at 10 and they have TV's there...it's a bar playa. I might watch games there going forward and start our show after they're over.
As for the CD, I don't have any desire to drop an album just yet. We might do a 5 song professionally recorded demo, but we probably won't release a full album until we sign.
MOLA1 10-15-2008, 12:52 PM Come out and support us if you have time in your schedule.

LMFAO.
Oh and the answer is no of course.
Timone 10-20-2008, 12:24 PM There will be moshing, correct?
Timone 10-20-2008, 12:35 PM I also would like to know if there will be impaled sheep heads. Because they usually have those at the shows I go to...
Glenn 10-20-2008, 12:38 PM Is it possible that the lack of impaled sheep's heads is a dealbreaker?
Timone 10-20-2008, 12:48 PM Eh, no big deal if there aren't.
There will be sluts though, right?
MOLA1 10-20-2008, 01:10 PM No sheep's heads, no moshing, might be sluts there though.
Timone 10-20-2008, 01:17 PM Translation:
Yes, there will be sluts, and they will all have tramp stamps.
SDB'S A LOCK, BABY!!!
MOLA1 10-28-2008, 10:20 AM how was the show?
Definitely our best so far. I don't think anyone from here showed. Varsity's been to most of our shows so far. We'll be playing at The Black Lotus Brewing Co this Saturday. I'm not sure how good the sound will be there as it's not really set up for bands. The good thing is, it's a relatively small place so the energy will be high. It doesn't take many people to fill it up.
So if anyone's interested, we'll be at Black Lotus in Clawson this Saturday and we will be back at Fifth Ave in Royal Oak next Wednesday.
Wizzle 10-28-2008, 04:15 PM a Jurassic Park sample?! my god Mola, that is sick.....wish I could get down to see ya live

These will probably be our only 2 shows for the rest of 2008.
Do try to make it to one if these if you can! We need your support.
We're going to start working on our demo and won't have time to do any more until '09. The idea is to get this demo going, start shopping it and trying to build our fan base here in Michigan.
You may walk away from the show a fan and you may not. The exciting part is that you can be at a high energy bar and watch the Pistons game with fellow fans, throw a couple back and then celebrate the inevitable 105-87 victory with some live music!
theMUHMEshow 11-04-2008, 11:50 AM I've been to two shows...both great and everyone I have brought has enjoyed the show a ton...
Wish I could hit the Nov 5th show, but AC/DC... Mola you'll see me on the 10th
kiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiill it!

That's awesome...Family first homie. Totally understandable.
Besides, you've made it out to the shows, Varsity's been to 4 or 5 out of 7 shows that we've done and Muhmme has come out twice already come to support us and that's much appreciated guys. I was asking the rest of these peeps to come through if possible. If you can make it and have time, come watch the game, have a couple drinks and check it out.
Holler.

DennyMcLain 02-11-2009, 09:51 AM Is that a Cello in there? Electric cello! I like it. Sounds like nothing else out there.
Kinda has a Fort Minor vibe to it, but I like Shinoda's stuff, so it's a good thing.
I dig the Beastie Boys reset on "Hip Hop".
Did LDB write some of your stuff. It's hot.
The electric Cello dude is phenomenal.
Timone 02-11-2009, 09:59 AM I ghostwrite for a lot of peeps. MOLA isn't one of them.
Wizzle 02-11-2009, 11:04 AM great stuff MOLA......that could take off on Itunes
MOLA1 02-11-2009, 06:30 PM Thanks guys. I've been pretty busy recording, getting shit copyrighted, publishing and all that. Next step is a photoshoot and cover art, then bios and all of the aforemtioned for a press kit. We need to do some more shows. Not sure where to hit next. Any serious suggestions? (we can't play the palace yet and doing a show from the balcony of the Potbelly sandwich joint might not cut the mustard.) Big Pun. Yeah Baby!
DennyMcLain 02-11-2009, 07:30 PM Your cover art can be a cartoon Bukdow, stating the famous geerussell "I'm kind of a big deal" rant. I'll get right to work on it.

MikeMyers 02-16-2009, 12:52 PM You should compete in the "April in the D" song contest.
MOLA1 02-18-2009, 10:04 PM Why don't they just use "April in the D, April in the D" from the commercial, LOL. It's a catchy tune! :)

DennyMcLain 02-26-2009, 07:39 PM That is tight. I am certain you will raise the ceiling, yo, with your dope Bach and Handel rap. Those sick dudes kill.
How's your following? Is this place a big deal out in the D?
Hermy 03-04-2009, 08:28 AM When will you be on? I am old and have a baby, I can't be rolling home @ 2:30.
Wizzle 03-05-2009, 09:00 PM hey MOLA, have you ever checked out Flobots? Somewhat similar sound
Got the kid tomorrow, otherwise I woulda made my second Definition show.
MOLA1 03-06-2009, 09:52 AM [smilie=yourock.gif]THE SHOW IS TONIGHT BABY!!!!!!!! [smilie=yourock.gif]
How's your following? Is this place a big deal out in the D?
The following is getting to be pretty strong man. The cool thing is, we had our first show last May so we're going strong. As for tonight it should be close to full capacity and it's a very solid venue.
When will you be on? I am old and have a baby, I can't be rolling home @ 2:30.
I don't know exactly, but I'm thinking probably around 11 or 11:30. Our set should be a little over an hour and then we get to chill. If there's an encore it'll be 1, maybe 2 songs.
hey MOLA, have you ever checked out Flobots? Somewhat similar sound
Yeah, they're good. We've been compared to Rage, Flobots, Linkin Park, Fort Minor, Saul Williams, Method Man/Eminem with a band, Rakim with a band, The Roots and Body Count. So the common denominator is props, but I don't agree with half of them.
Got the kid tomorrow, otherwise I woulda made my second Definition show. You're a good man. Take care of your kids. I appreciate you sir.
Timone 03-06-2009, 10:24 AM Fool, make sure you tell TheKid that WTF misses him.
ISWYDT but Hermy can pass that along quicker than I can.

You've added another black dude to your band?
MOLA1 07-16-2009, 12:29 PM :thatsracist:
Fine. You added the dude on the right to the band?
MOLA1 07-16-2009, 08:42 PM Haha! Yeah. We needed a 5 string bassist and finally found one that's as good as everyone else in the band. He used to play in the Black Bottom Collective. The best part is the fact that he's a Hip-Hop head like myself. Mos Def is his favorite rapper (mine is Black Thought) and thinks Rakim is the greatest of all time (as do I). He brings that Hip-Hop/funk bass style which is what we were missing. Adding that to our rock/classical cellist and jazz/gospel drummer creates a perfect sound.
Sorry if that was totally boring. I was just going
to respond, "Yes." and probably should have. LOL
No man, I preferred that reply.

MOLA1 08-12-2009, 09:52 AM DEFINITELY!
Our enthusiasm for The Definition began after we met Jeff Ehrinpreis at Gusoline Alley, and continued to build after we heard the band’s CD, and gained unstoppable momentum when we we’re privileged to sit in on a jam session inside a Birmingham dojo. For the first time, “novelty” has not soured in our ears. By blending the discipline of classical music (yes, that’s an electric cello) with strong, original hip-hop rhythms, The Definition has succeeded in creating unique and incomparable sounds worthy of notice. If this is old news to you — if you’ve already heard the magic at Black Lotus or The Detroit Pub — well, fine. If not, you owe it to yourself to catch Jeff, Martin Malota, Derek Buford and Kamau when they ascend on the stage at The Berkley Front on August 14. 3087 12 Mile or call 248.547.3331. Roll over, Beethoven!

Glenn 08-12-2009, 12:29 PM Nice!
MOLA1 08-13-2009, 09:49 AM DEFINITION defines itself further
First, you just don't see an electric cello everyday.
Second (and no less importantly), you probably haven't seen The Definition yet. They aren't intoPR (much)and they've depended almost entirely on their audiences to spread the word about the music. It's definitely succeeding - and you can form you own opinion when the guys show up at the Berkley Front on August 14.
By blending the best elements of classical music with the modern spirit of hip-hop, this ensemble (Jeff Ehrinpreis, Martin Malota, Derek Buford, and Kamau) is creating a sound that is unmistakeably unique and memorable.

I live in Australia and while I would love to see Mola's band in person I just don't have the funds.
It wouldn't matter if you could guarantee every Playboy playmate from the last 12 months would be there AND would agree to suck me dry for free.
I just don't have the funds for a flight.
You could pay for it, LDB.

MOLA1) was also recently cast in a movie, one of the many that have been in production around the Metro Detroit area. To find out more about the Definition Band and the man who wears many hats take a listen!

Where can I "listen" to your music without spending a dime?
MOLA1 03-02-2010, 10:36 AM www.definitionband.com
There are multiple links there as well as a myspace music player.
I like adding the bass. Sounds like it backs the Cello well and makes the rhythm thicker (more robust to go all bukdow).
You sound tighter too in those first couple tracks than when I heard you at wherever that was. Though I lol'ed when I heard "I've been called the Jesus of microphones" because I don't think Muhme calling you that counts.
Keep workin' hard.
