Announced yesterday: Drew Lane is not coming back to WRIF. SHOCKER! This morning they were bleeping his name out of all the bumps. "The BLEEEEEP Mike Show, on WRIF."
I know not everyone likes that show, but it's a part of living in the Detroit area that we should all know about. Every big-numbers national radio show that came to Detroit (including Stern) ended up closing up shop within months because people in this area would much rather listen to Drew & Mike. Everywhere I've ever worked where there was a radio, Drew & Mike were always on in the morning.
Their chemistry was always the draw. Drew was the low-key professional who would only lose it every once in a great while. Mike is just a ridiculous shambles of a man, whose only joys in life are cigarettes and fart jokes. Even though Mike Clark is still on the air, and Drew hasn't been on the air since last September, it kind of feels like the end of an era. And I admit that it's a little sad.
