Does 119 losses ring a bell? Apparently not. Baseball's highest marks for ownership, coaching, players and fan relations has put the Motor City Kitties into the Ultimate Standings top 10. And that's without making the playoffs in 2007. GM Dave Dombrowski and owner Mike Ilitch proved they had no intention of trying the faithful's patience, though, snagging Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis over the winter. In his three years as manager, Jim Leyland has built up even more good will. "For changing the culture of perpetual losing, he could probably run for mayor and win," says Bill Ferris, creator of DetroitTigersWeblog.com. In a city that's been decimated by the tanking economy, the team continues to lift fans' spirits a few hours at a time with free carnival rides on Sundays. And at a family-friendly price: 27-game ticket packages start as low as $297. If only Ilitch & Co. knew something about cars. -Molly Knight

It's good to be a Pistons fan these days. Though the team regularly contends for NBA titles, the average ticket price ($47.50) is still $1.33 below the NBA average, and promotions are as on-the-mark as a Chauncey Billups bounce pass. On Ladies Night Out, for the bargain price of $59, a pair of gals gets two tickets, two Pistons martini glasses, two passes to a postgame autograph session with players and a $20 Palace gift card. For the same money on their special night, guys get the tickets and gift card, plus two pint glasses and a meet-and-greet with the Pistons' dance team. To top it off, every fan in attendance can redeem a buy-one-get-one six-inch sub deal from Subway when the Pistons score 95 points and win, which probably happens more than Jared's peeps would like. Now if only the team could translate fan goodwill into another championship, 'cause it will take more than a couple of martinis to inspire a little love for Flip Saunders. - Molly Knight

Keep these numbers in mind, because they tell the story. First, 558as in W's the Wings have amassed under GM Ken Holland, the most in the NHL since 1997-98. That one explains why Detroit's front office is tops in the league and why Hockeytown feels the next Stanley Cup is always right around the corner. Of course, a 17th-straight winning campaign can keep hope springing eternal too. And then there are these: 16, 14 and 10. Those are the years of service for beloved vets Nicklas Lidstrom, Kris Draper and Chris Chelios. Now give a nod to 29 and 27, the ages of Euro-jets Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg, the league's highest-scoring one-two punchand the 27-spot category bump Mike Babcock gets after becoming the first coach in NHL history with 50-win seasons in his first three with a club. No, you don't need a calculator to figure out where this city's love affair with its icemen comes from. - Jason Catania

The Lions finished last in our Standings a year ago yet found a new way to torture followers: by stoking false hopes. Detroit began 2007 going 6-2 ("From here on out," Jon Kitna said in November, "we're in the playoffs") then immediately collapsed. Thus the Lions are the only team in the history of our Standings to double their win total while finishing dead last in fans' expectations for a championship (Title Track: 122). Otherwise, it's ho-hum in Motown. Owner William Clay Ford (next to last among NFL owners) still has Matt Millen on the payroll as president. Near-entire classes of players drafted by Millen (like his picks in, say, 2002, or 2003, or 2004) have failed to crack the Lions roster, let alone the Pro Bowl (next to last). Yet the Lions still think it's a hoot to raise ticket prices (No. 115). So we'll leave you with this: Google the words "there are absolutely no words to describe the horror," and all the results, across the entire Web, are descriptions of Lions games. - Peter Keating
WTFchris 04-23-2008, 03:39 PM Well, that doesn't mean the Lions fans are bad, just unsatisfied.
Glenn 04-23-2008, 03:40 PM If anything, they're bad for continuing to spend money on a shit product.
Tahoe 04-23-2008, 03:48 PM One could make a case for the Lions fans as being some of the most loyal.

George Bush fans are also loyal, despite bad results. There is a fine line between loyalty and blind faith though.
Timone 04-23-2008, 03:55 PM It's just like my friend 田武雄 said:
No watch the games! No buy the mementos!

Yuk...sports and politics don't mix for me.
Wizzle 04-23-2008, 04:45 PM If it was a switch that I could just turn off, it would have happened years ago but, God help me, I'll be a Lions fan for life
:emo kid:
Glenn 04-23-2008, 04:47 PM Just don't go to the games or buy any merch, please.
Zekyl 04-23-2008, 07:55 PM I meant to title it "fan satisfaction" but screwed up.
