Just wondering if any of you play chess. If so what are your favorite openings and why, etc. Any memorable games? That type of stuff.

Why? Its a thread about chess. Either you play or you don`t. MoTown 04-09-2008, 11:30 AM I was actually being serious. I just have a feeling that this thread will get off-track quickly, and it probably won't be your doing, bukdow. I've played chess, but I don't play it enough to know the names of each individual box. So I guess the answer is no, I don't play chess. bukdow 04-09-2008, 11:39 AM I was actually being serious. So I guess the answer is no, I don't play chess. I see. Fool 04-09-2008, 12:07 PM I lose at chess. WTFchris 04-09-2008, 01:13 PM Risking ridicule...yes, i used to play chess a lot. I was even on my chess team in elementary school and was the top player (the equivilent of #1 singles in tennis). I used to be rated nationally as well. I think I was in the top 1500 in my age bracket, whatever it was, only losing one match total in 5th and 6th grade. When I went to junior high I never really played much again. I still enjoy it, but probably play about once a year if that. Mostly I don't play because people won't play me. I usually bust out the 4 move check mate on them and they don't want to play again. I put myself out on a limb, play nice please (or I'll ban you). Fool 04-09-2008, 01:16 PM Its cool that you could do well at it. Don't assume Glenn. Zekyl 04-09-2008, 01:17 PM I used to play a ton when I was younger, but its been so long I'd be terrible now. I don't remember any of my old moves but I used to know a few 3-5 move checkmates. I've still got a chess set but no one to play with. Timone 04-09-2008, 01:20 PM I put myself out on a limb, play nice please (or I'll ban you). Please do. Wizzle 04-09-2008, 01:23 PM I like to put little tattoos on my pawns and then use them to take down the queen with a thuggish mentality. bukdow 04-09-2008, 01:26 PM Risking ridicule...yes, i used to play chess a lot. However, getting somebody caught in a Fool`s Mate only happens when you are playing neophytes, and bad ones at that. Zekyl 04-09-2008, 01:48 PM I like to put little tattoos on my pawns and then use them to take down the queen with a thuggish mentality. Are they neck tattoos? Do your pawns pwn from Memphis? Tahoe 04-09-2008, 02:23 PM I play quite a bit with the boy. We enjoy it as a family type thing. Its a good way to teach a kid good sportsmanship too. He's usually red and I'm black. I double jumped him the other day and got kinged at the same time and he didn't even get mad. Oops that checkers...never mind. Wizzle 04-09-2008, 02:53 PM I think thats pretty cool. Playing games with your kids is a good way to teach them to be good winners and good losers. DennyMcLain 04-09-2008, 05:22 PM Does Checkers count? It's the same board, right? Can somebody hijack this thread, and rename it: Anyone play Chess? a.k.a. The Checkers Thread BubblesTheLion 04-09-2008, 05:35 PM I play a little, I typically start out of a Queen's Gambit. bukdow 04-09-2008, 05:51 PM I play a little, I typically start out of a Queen's Gambit. Hey, alright. I have a friend who likes to play that, I always decline. I generally use Sicilian (especially when playing defense) or Ruy Lopez. I picture bukdow sitting at his computer and thinking of things to google and then post on various chat boards what an expert he is on all this shit. Sorry dude, well rounded people don't sit on message boards all friggin' day. I should know. BubblesTheLion 04-09-2008, 06:54 PM Hey, alright. I have a friend who likes to play that, I always decline. I generally use Sicilian (especially when playing defense) or Ruy Lopez. I'm not so good on defense, I guess you could say I play a poor French. I stick with Gambit because I am so used to seeing it declined at this point that I feel comfortable with where the games go. bukdow 04-09-2008, 06:56 PM I'm not so good on defense, I guess you could say I play a poor French. Hell, most of my openings with white start with e4 and are followed by piece development. bukdow 04-09-2008, 07:11 PM I picture bukdow sitting at his computer and thinking of things to google and then post on various chat boards what an expert he is on all this shit. Yes, Sir. b-diddy 04-09-2008, 07:51 PM if i was going to bet my life on anything, it would be that bukdow is the type of guy who puts alot of merit in knowing the names of strategies in chess. note: this does not suggest that bukdow is good at chess or even knows anything about those strategies, just that he is very impressed (and thinks its very impressive) to know the names of strategies. im glad that this thread validated that theory. in conclusion, motown was right: this has been an amazing thread. bukdow 04-09-2008, 08:58 PM if i was going to bet my life on anything, it would be that bukdow is the type of guy who puts alot of merit in knowing the names of strategies in chess. note: this does not suggest that bukdow is good at chess or even knows anything about those strategies, just that he is very impressed (and thinks its very impressive) to know the names of strategies. im glad that this thread validated that theory. in conclusion, motown was right: this has been an amazing thread.
