Knicks-Pistons Preview

2006-07 Stats at a Glance
With their playoff seed already locked up, the Detroit Pistons have six games left to tune up for the postseason.
They'll start on Tuesday, when they try for their 11th straight home win over the New York Knicks.
The Pistons (55-21) secured the No. 2 spot in the Eastern Conference playoffs on Sunday when they beat the league-worst Miami Heat 91-75. Detroit, which won an NBA title in 2004, will be making its seventh straight trip to the postseason - and trying to advance to the conference finals for the sixth consecutive season.
Boston already has wrapped up the No. 1 seed, while Orlando will be in the No. 3 spot.
"We're comfortable with our position right now and we just want to keep doing what's made us successful," point guard Chauncey Billups said. "You can't do any more than that."
None of Detroit's starters played more than 28 minutes against the Heat, and the five players combined for a total of just 3 minutes, 28 seconds of playing time in the second quarter, when the Pistons outscored Miami 20-11. Antonio McDyess got the night off, while leading scorer Richard Hamilton sat out for the sixth time in seven games with a sore hip.
Hamilton could return for Wednesday's game at Philadelphia.
"We decided when we came down that we were going to go with the younger guys," coach Flip Saunders said. "They did a nice job, found a way to finish and it was very encouraging."
Rookie Rodney Stuckey scored 19 points and Tayshaun Prince added 14 on 6-for-7 shooting as Detroit won its fifth straight.
If recent history is any indication, the Pistons might be able to get a little more rest against New York (21-56). The Knicks have not won in Detroit since an 89-82 victory on March 27, 2002.
The Pistons won 98-86 in the only meeting this season at The Palace of Auburn Hills on Nov. 21.
The Knicks ended a five-game losing streak on Sunday, beating the Magic 100-90. Rookie Wilson Chandler scored a season-high 23 points, nearly four times his season average entering the game (5.9).
"I think he continues to grow. He played a lot of minutes tonight, he played 44 minutes," coach Isiah Thomas said of Chandler, who has scored in double figures in seven of his last 11 games. "I thought his defensive assignments, he didn't miss any assignments and he was able to follow the schemes."
The game was New York's first at home since Donnie Walsh was hired as president of basketball operations Wednesday. Thomas would not say if he has spoken with Walsh, whom he coached under in Indiana from 2000-03, about his future with the organization.
"Whatever role, my job is to work with Donnie and I'm happy to be working with him, and again we had a nice thing going in Indiana that was interrupted, and I think that given the opportunity we could have a nice thing here," Thomas said.
Sunday's win was just the third in 20 games for New York, which has dropped seven straight on the road.

Glenn 04-08-2008, 08:32 AM I'm interested to see if Rodman does anything outrageous.
Nice job on the thread, CV
Glenn 04-08-2008, 08:33 AM Also, is there any truth to the rumor that Stuckey is on the all-time team?
Zekyl 04-08-2008, 08:37 AM He was nominated all time starting PG, they kicked Isiah out to make room.
Screw Isiah, do you know who Rodney Stuckey IS?!
Thats ME!
Black Dynamite 04-08-2008, 08:38 AM Poll added, more tough choices.
Man. Z's post and Gutz's poll are both high quality and very deep.
Glenn 04-08-2008, 09:10 AM At least CV got the OGT right in only one try.
zing!
MoTown 04-08-2008, 09:20 AM Man. Z's post and Gutz's poll are both high quality and very deep.
Yet there's no multiple answer option.
:emo kid:
Hermy 04-08-2008, 09:49 AM Young scrappy Knicks vs. young scrappy Pistons should be fun.
MoTown 04-08-2008, 10:15 AM Agreed. Is there any chance we could steal David Lee without the Knicks or the league noticing?
Big Swami 04-08-2008, 10:36 AM Rodney Stuckey, motherbitches.
Glenn 04-08-2008, 10:44 AM I'm debating between watching this and putting together a bookcase.
I'll probably try to do both, but right now I would say that the bulk of my attention will be on the bookcase.
Outside of watching Amir and some Stuckeyball, these games are getting pretty painful to watch, IMO.
Glenn 04-08-2008, 11:54 AM I don't understand you.
porqué?
Vinny 04-08-2008, 12:07 PM Agreed. Is there any chance we could steal David Lee without the Knicks or the league noticing? If only we still had Primoz we could put a ski mask on him and pull a switcheroo. A good old fashioned switcheroo.
MoTown 04-08-2008, 12:07 PM porqué?
I'll take this one, Fool.
It's because Fool (and I) get to see players that we're not used to seeing. We get to see guys that could be the future (Stuckey/Amir) for an extended period of time. We get to see what they can do for 35 minutes, instead of 15. We've watched the starters for 5 years now. The new blood is entertaining. It's a change of pace. Plus Walter Herrmann is dreamy.
Glenn 04-08-2008, 12:12 PM That's pretty much what I said, outside of watching Amir and Stuckeyball, these games are painful to watch.
I just keep thinking that some of our core players who obviously (in some cases), don't even want to be out there, are going to get injured.
The caliber of opponent that we are facing with these non-playoff teams is downright pitiful. Add to that the fact that we're locked in to the #2 spot, so the games are meaningless in the standings.
I like watching the young guys, too, but unless we are going to see 30+ minutes from guys like Amir and Samb, it just feels like I'm watching Pistons-lite.

TV: TV20 Detroit (HDTV) | Radio: WDFN 1130 AM - The Fan
Last Meeting: Detroit won 101-97 (March 7, 2008)
The skinny: It’s been another disastrous season for the Knicks, but they’re coming to The Palace with at least a few reasons to feel better. First and foremost, they beat Orlando 100-90 Sunday night at Madison Square Garden – the first victory over an NBA team other than Miami since Feb. 27. The Knicks beat Miami twice in a 2-13 March and had lost five straight until dumping the Magic, who were coming off a big win at Cleveland on Saturday. New York also got some good news Monday when franchise icon Patrick Ewing was named to the Hall of Fame. And it’s a slam dunk that Knicks coach Isiah Thomas will be among the players honored prior to tonight’s game as part of the Pistons’ All-Time Team celebration to commemorate the franchise’s 50th year in Detroit. Eddy Curry and Quentin Richardson are out for the Knicks, which probably registers as addition by subtraction. The Knicks have gone to a more athletic lineup with Jared Jeffries and David Lee at forward and rookie Wilson Chandler playing in the backcourt next to Jamal Crawford, who leads the Knicks in scoring at 20.8 points a game. Zach Randolph moves to center with Curry out. He’s averaging 17.8 points and 10.3 rebounds. Randolph Morris, who joined the Knicks late last season out of Kentucky, is starting to see some playing time.
What to watch: It figures to be more of the same for the Pistons – short minutes for their starters, long minutes for their bench. Rodney Stuckey and Arron Afflalo have the size to match up to the Knicks’ big backcourt of Crawford and Chandler and Mardy Collins off the bench. Stuckey has been playing as well as any rookie in the league over the past few weeks and it giving every indication that he’ll play a major role in the postseason. His jump shot has turned very reliable, his decision-making has improved and he’s been better than solid as a defender. With a Wednesday game at potential playoff opponent Philadelphia looming, it’s likely that Flip Saunders will give long looks at players like Amir Johnson, Juan Dixon and Walter Herrmann in this one and then use a more normal rotation against the 76ers.
Wilfredo Ledezma 04-08-2008, 02:01 PM Circus comes to town again!
Kstat 04-08-2008, 02:11 PM I'll be in the house for this one.
Going to be a special night.
I'll take this one, Fool.
It's because Fool (and I) get to see players that we're not used to seeing. We get to see guys that could be the future (Stuckey/Amir) for an extended period of time. :motown owns:
Zekyl 04-08-2008, 03:17 PM Agreed. Is there any chance we could steal David Lee without the Knicks or the league noticing?
Maybe if we already have a jersey made up for him, he can just sort of slide into our locker room at halftime and change really quickly.
Timone 04-08-2008, 03:23 PM I'll be in the house for this one.
Going to be a special night.
Yeah, it gets no bigger than Knicks-Pistons.
He's talking about the All-Time Piston team to be announced and all the ex-Pistons in the house.
Timone 04-08-2008, 03:33 PM Am I an even bigger dick than I already am if I say I don't really care about the all-time team and all that?
Timone 04-08-2008, 03:34 PM I'll take this one...
Am I an even bigger dick than I already am if I say I don't really care about the all-time team and all that?
Too hard.
Vinny 04-08-2008, 03:47 PM I'll take this one...
Too hard.
:little tony:
Glenn 04-08-2008, 03:52 PM Hay, it's little Tony!
Kstat 04-08-2008, 05:20 PM Am I an even bigger dick than I already am if I say I don't really care about the all-time team and all that?
Yes.
Dennis Rodman hasn't been back to the palace since 1998.
Timone 04-08-2008, 05:21 PM Yes.
Disagreed.
Timone 04-08-2008, 05:23 PM Where's the options that have to do with the actual game?!
Still, I believe CV makes the BEST OGT threads.
I can't WAIT for this one!
Timone 04-08-2008, 07:50 PM Mahorn looks bored.
Timone 04-08-2008, 07:55 PM Rodman didn't show up. Must be sitting in a truck somewhere contemplating suicide.
Ok, that was mean.
Tahoe 04-08-2008, 07:58 PM I'm just getting the Zeke talk right now.
MikeMyers 04-08-2008, 08:03 PM I wish Rodman would show his face
Tahoe 04-08-2008, 08:07 PM I don't know...I loved Rodman and his game at first but later he had to be the center of attention, or he'd act like baby.
I wish he'd be there too though. As long as he could handle giving Zeke, JoeD, Daly and Billy Laims there props.
Timone 04-08-2008, 08:09 PM OT...Jump is the worst Van Halen song.
Tahoe 04-08-2008, 08:09 PM OT ... Did you ever wear a suit to a BBall game?
Timone 04-08-2008, 08:10 PM OT...no, you'd never catch me in a suit.
Unless it's my birthday suit.
Timone 04-08-2008, 08:12 PM OT...Jump is the worst Van Halen song.
This even includes the Van Gaygar days.
Vinny 04-08-2008, 08:16 PM Hearing the old guy doing intros reminds me how terrible Mason is.
Joooooooooooeeee Duuuuuuuuuuuummmmmmaaaaaarrrrssss!
MoTown 04-08-2008, 08:21 PM I like Mason, but have you ever listened to the shit he says? It's ridiculous.
Timone 04-08-2008, 08:29 PM Mason is ok, the worst is the Heat guy imo.
Vinny 04-08-2008, 08:31 PM Dwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyynnnnee ee Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Glenn 04-08-2008, 08:41 PM any way to watch this game online?
There should be, it's your birthday.
(If it's still your birthday where you are)
Joe Asberry 04-08-2008, 08:47 PM hehe, its 3 am over here in germany, April 9th, so my birthday was yesterday ;)
Timone 04-08-2008, 08:48 PM But the best Van Halen song?
Obviously it's "Unchained."
Dude, no fuckin' question.
Tahoe 04-08-2008, 08:49 PM Happy Belated BDay Mr. Asberry
Glenn 04-08-2008, 08:49 PM I can't believe that we're losing to these guys.
Glenn 04-08-2008, 08:49 PM Quick analogy...
The Knicks are to the Pistons as the Royals are to the Tigers
Glenn 04-08-2008, 08:50 PM Quick analogy...
The Knicks are to the Pistons as the Royals are to the Tigers
Actually,
The Knicks are to the Pistons as all of MLB is to the Tigers
Timone 04-08-2008, 08:52 PM What do you think is Kstat's all-time starting Pistons lineup?
Timone 04-08-2008, 08:53 PM OT...
#1 = Unchained
#2 = Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love
Joe Asberry 04-08-2008, 08:56 PM thanks tahoe
kstat's alltime Pistons starting lineup
Darko starting center, Delfino starting SG
Amir PF, Rodney White SF, Horace Jenkins PG :p
Timone 04-08-2008, 08:58 PM Gotta include Dixon and Flip.
Joe Asberry 04-08-2008, 09:04 PM I can see Walter on the floor in the 2nd Q, wtf ?
Vinny 04-08-2008, 09:06 PM OT...
#1 = Unchained
#2 = Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love
I was going to say Aint Talkin Bout Love was my favorite VH song back when you were talking about Panama but I didn't want to piss off Tahoe.
Timone 04-08-2008, 09:09 PM Forgot about Panama. Damnit!
PAAAAAANAMAAAAAUHUHUH
Tahoe 04-08-2008, 09:13 PM I was going to say Aint Talkin Bout Love was my favorite VH song back when you were talking about Panama but I didn't want to piss off Tahoe.
I wouldn't worry, I hear that Tahoe guy is unpissable offable.
Tahoe 04-08-2008, 09:14 PM Oh boy, that Herman is good.
Timone 04-08-2008, 09:16 PM Oh yeah, we're getting killed.
Timone 04-08-2008, 09:17 PM I reach down in between my legs.. ease the seat back...
Higherwarrior 04-08-2008, 09:23 PM good to see we haven't lost our ability to play down to the competition.
Tahoe 04-08-2008, 09:26 PM Panama ah oh oh ah oh ah oh
Higherwarrior 04-08-2008, 09:28 PM Mason is ok, the worst is the Heat guy imo.
no way. the spurs PA announcer is BY FAR the worst. he sounds like he's holding his nose and constipated at the same time. i've never heard such a strained, nasal voice in a PA announcer in my life.
Glenn 04-08-2008, 09:31 PM I'll be in the house for this one.
Going to be a special night.
Glenn 04-08-2008, 09:32 PM Yeah, this shit performance is just "hangover" from the opening ceremonies, Eli.
Dickweed.
Timone 04-08-2008, 09:33 PM Panama ah oh oh ah oh ah oh
Glenn 04-08-2008, 09:33 PM The bookcase is almost done, btw.
Timone 04-08-2008, 09:33 PM Also, lol @ this "D".
Glenn 04-08-2008, 09:36 PM The Piston regulars so do not want to be here tonight.
The fans in attendance should get their $ back.
Timone 04-08-2008, 09:39 PM This is so annoying. Making no effort to contest shots or play any D in general...
Tahoe 04-08-2008, 09:43 PM 49 pts ouch, but Pistons O still > Tigers O.
b-diddy 04-08-2008, 10:02 PM insult to injury. when espn2's nba 2night cut to the game they had clyde frazier on there talking about how he dressed better than anyone in detroit.
ouch.
Black Dynamite 04-08-2008, 10:09 PM for everything he does good on offense, dixon does just as bad on defense. Not really what i wanted in "pick your poison".
Timone 04-08-2008, 10:23 PM I admire the fact these guys are kinda playing hard.
Higherwarrior 04-08-2008, 10:25 PM even the most minimal effort tonight could have won the game for us. we had nothing to play for and i understand that.
but we've played so lazy out there and showed no interest in trying hard at anything.
i didn't expect us to be at our best, but i think our play tonight kind of is a slap in the face of the players we honored at the pregame ceremony.
oh well, bring on the sixers.
Timone 04-08-2008, 10:26 PM Holy shit, they can cut it to a 1 posession game with a bucket here.
Higherwarrior 04-08-2008, 10:27 PM we play hard for 2 minutes and we close it to a 5 point game. somebody get mario chalmers ready to sub in for these last few seconds!
Timone 04-08-2008, 10:28 PM Are you kidding me?
Timone 04-08-2008, 10:28 PM I'll be in the house for this one.
Going to be a special night.
Higherwarrior 04-08-2008, 10:29 PM no need to foul! play D and box out!
Timone 04-08-2008, 10:29 PM FUCK Mardy Collins, lol.
Higherwarrior 04-08-2008, 10:30 PM lol. mardy collins beats us. that's funny. at least the kids made it interesting at the end.
BubblesTheLion 04-08-2008, 10:30 PM And that's how you redeem a shitty game.
That was wild fun!
Timone 04-08-2008, 10:30 PM lol. mardy collins beats us. that's funny. at least the kids made it interesting at the end.
I knew that shot was going in...lol.
Kstat 04-08-2008, 11:19 PM Sucks that I'm only 18-2 now.
Still, it felt like a preseason game. Got to see a great comeback, too.
Kstat 04-09-2008, 12:19 AM Oh, and i was in the halftime show too. I lost the competition, but I won my previous one, so I suppose I was due.
On a good note, it felt good to be at center court in front of 20,000 people.
Glenn 04-09-2008, 06:19 AM According to McCosky, Rodman "missed his flight".
Uncle Mxy 04-09-2008, 06:37 AM no way. the spurs PA announcer is BY FAR the worst. he sounds like he's holding his nose and constipated at the same time. i've never heard such a strained, nasal voice in a PA announcer in my life.
If it's who I'm thinking of, I hear his voice and expect a cracker with a shotgun.
Uncle Mxy 04-09-2008, 06:55 AM According to McCosky, Rodman "missed his flight".
It might've had something to do with this:

Glenn 04-09-2008, 07:47 AM Mxy, do you have any pics of Rodman's 19 year-old daughter?
When she became pregnant with Alexis they got engaged - with Rodman popping the question as they had sex on the bonnet of a car, according to the UK's Sunday Mirror (http://www.sundaymirror.co.uk/news/tm_objectid=16559610&method=full&siteid=62484&headline=den-s-a-sex-psycho-name_page.html).
After their wedding they went to McDonalds, she has said.
Fairy Tale material.
