Fuck. Tahoe 04-03-2008, 08:02 PM Courageous Timone 04-03-2008, 08:05 PM SIGH DrRay11 04-03-2008, 08:14 PM This season is a clone of last season. A CLONE, I tell you! Zekyl 04-03-2008, 08:28 PM Only with a better lineup and a worse bullpen. Timone 04-03-2008, 08:31 PM I don't know about better lineup right now. The Tigers scored more runs in that second game of the Toronto series (which opened the series and was only 2 games, because the third was postponed) than they have in the first 3 games vs. KC. jk, of COURSE they have a better lineup this season... Zekyl 04-03-2008, 08:34 PM On paper, better lineup and worse bullpen. Timone 04-03-2008, 08:35 PM always check for white text! Tahoe 04-03-2008, 08:37 PM Thats my schtick Timone 04-03-2008, 08:39 PM At least Sheff is soldiering on. We could use his patience at the plate... Tahoe 04-03-2008, 08:41 PM Let him rest it. Maybe somebody on the bench will spark us. Timone 04-03-2008, 08:43 PM Gary's a little stubborn. Tahoe 04-03-2008, 08:47 PM Gary's a little stubborn. Timone 04-03-2008, 08:49 PM Fuck you, racist. Tahoe 04-03-2008, 08:54 PM :thatsracist: Timone 04-03-2008, 08:58 PM Sheff is hilarious. I liked him even before the Tigers got him. Tahoe 04-03-2008, 09:04 PM Thats the way I look at him too...for some reason. Just an entertaining guy. Timone 04-03-2008, 09:04 PM http://100percentinjuryrate.blogspot.com/2007/06/best-of-gary-sheffield.html Tahoe 04-03-2008, 09:21 PM OMG thats some funny shit. Glenn 04-04-2008, 05:41 AM Here's a crazy thought... DL Sheff and sign Barry Bonds Glenn 04-04-2008, 06:41 AM There would be a lot of similarities to bringing in Bonds as there was with Sheed. Both bring baggage and a negative public image. Both haven't/hadn't won a championship prior to coming to the D. Both would be coming to play for a coach/mentor that they highly respect (Sheed/LB, Bonds/Leyland). I think the Sheed thing has worked out about as well as it possibly could have, would it be different with Bonds? Glenn 04-04-2008, 06:42 AM One problem might be Sheff's relationship with BB, who knows how that stands currently? Also, even if they are on decent terms, I'm not sure how Sheff would feel about bringing in another DH to share time with him. Image that platoon, though. Timone 04-04-2008, 06:57 AM OMG thats some funny shit. Timone 04-04-2008, 06:59 AM Bonds and Sheed are two entirely different situations. Bonds is hated by EVERYBODY because he's perceived as an asshole cheater who has helped "tarnish" the game. Glenn 04-04-2008, 08:10 AM As we get further along, I don't think Bonds will be hated so fiercely. I actually feel a lot differently about him now, knowing that hundreds of other players were doing the same shit he was. Tahoe 04-04-2008, 12:37 PM Glenn what time do you get up in the morning? It shows you post at 2:30am-4:00 am. I can't get up that early unless I'm still up from the night before. Tahoe 04-04-2008, 12:38 PM I used to like Bonds when a lot of peeps didn't. But he's in the Mark McGuire, that other guy from the Rangers who lied through their teeth. Glenn 04-04-2008, 12:44 PM Glenn what time do you get up in the morning? It shows you post at 2:30am-4:00 am. I can't get up that early unless I'm still up from the night before. I'm usually up around 5am, which I suppose would be 2am your time. Typically, I'm so ready to make it a great day that I just can't sleep anymore. Also, I have a bunch of kids. Tahoe 04-04-2008, 12:57 PM Oh yeah, time change. 5am sounds like sleeping in after thinking about 2. And don't forget to make it a great day. Glenn 04-04-2008, 01:22 PM Dickerson just said that Sheff's injury is "not, by any stretch, a DL situation". WTFchris 04-04-2008, 01:31 PM It's probably similar to what Kobe has. I'm sure Sheff can go out and swing a bat a dozen times a night. Timone 04-04-2008, 01:32 PM As we get further along, I don't think Bonds will be hated so fiercely. I actually feel a lot differently about him now, knowing that hundreds of other players were doing the same shit he was. ROGER CLEMENS!!! WTFchris 04-04-2008, 01:44 PM Sheffield won't have to go on DL with injured finger ESPN.com news services Updated: April 4, 2008, 1:09 PM ET Gary Sheffield (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=4268), who injured his left hand Thursday, will not have to go on the disabled list, according to Detroit Tigers (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/clubhouse?team=det) manager Jim Leyland. Sheffield was not in the lineup for Friday afternoon's game against the Chicago White Sox (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/clubhouse?team=cha), but Leyland said Sheffield should be able to play again after the swelling subsides in his left index finger. Miguel Cabrera (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=7163), scratched from Thursday's lineup because of a strained left quadriceps, was in Friday's lineup as the designated hitter. Sheffield had torn a tendon in the finger while trying unsuccessfully to stretch a single into a double in the eighth inning of the Thursday's 4-1 loss to the Kansas City Royals (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/clubhouse?team=kan). After the game, Sheffield told reporters, "It won't straighten out," and that when he returned to the dugout after the injury, he looked at the finger and thought "it looked deformed." He added that there was also a period of time when he had no feeling in the finger. The tendon tear in Sheffield's finger is near the tip, and should not affect his ability hold the bat, Leyland said. Leyland said Sheffield will wear a splint when he's not playing for six weeks and wear another kind of padding when he plays. Brandon Inge (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=6681) was again at third base in place of Cabrera, obtained from Florida during the offseason with Dontrelle Willis (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=7133). Vinny 04-04-2008, 02:40 PM As we get further along, I don't think Bonds will be hated so fiercely. I actually feel a lot differently about him now, knowing that hundreds of other players were doing the same shit he was. ROGER CLEMENS!!! Who??? ROGER CLEMENS!!! [Fixed.] Timone 04-05-2008, 04:56 PM With all of these injuries, is there any way the Tigers can get BARWIS?? Glenn 04-15-2008, 10:02 AM Injury updates - good and possibly not Curtis Granderson will start taking batting practice tomorrow, the Tigers just announced. Fernando Rodney is headed to Birmingham, Ala., for a visit Wednesday with Dr. James Andrews. Okay, that's not good. Glenn 04-15-2008, 10:08 AM Rodney to see Dr. Andrews He was slated to throw another bullpen session today, but apparently things didn't go well. Rodney will travel to Birmingham and see noted specialist Dr. James Andrews on Wednesday. Posted on April 14, 2008 at 7:19 DrRay11 04-15-2008, 11:00 AM Shiza. We really need some help out there in the pen. Zekyl 04-15-2008, 06:17 PM Shiza. We really need some help out there in the stadium. Fixed Wilfredo Ledezma 04-15-2008, 06:38 PM I got a feeling Rodney's heading for Tommy John surgery, thats usually what happens when players go to see Andrews. It would be the 2nd time Rodney has had Tommy John, which is kind of abnormal. Anyways, if thats the case, than I would expect Dave to make a move pretty soon. Especially considering the only reason he didn't go out and get a Scott Linebrink-type reliever this year was because he was expecting Rodney to have been healthy. I won't fault Dave for that assumption, b/c his injury really did come out of nowhere, but I think Dave has to address it ASAP. Bring on Chad Crodero! D's Nuts 04-19-2008, 03:41 PM Granderson could report back to the team as early as Monday or Tuesday. Things are looking up up up Wilfredo Ledezma 04-20-2008, 12:24 PM It's about time. Now that Clete Thomas has come back down to earth, it's time to ship him back to the minors where he belongs. Glenn 04-20-2008, 04:31 PM Sheff sees the doctors tomorrow. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3355632 If not Bonds, it might be time to take a look at Big Frank. Tahoe 04-20-2008, 05:03 PM Hopefully the doctors he sees will give him/us some good news Wilfredo Ledezma 04-20-2008, 08:07 PM Ugh, no Big Hurt. At least Barry won't go through slumps. Wilfredo Ledezma 04-20-2008, 08:07 PM It seems like Polanco is going to go on the DL as well. Glenn 04-21-2008, 01:04 PM How about Jay Gibbons as a fill-in DH? Zekyl 04-21-2008, 02:19 PM I didn't read the thread, does anyone know why Sheff hasn't been playing? Wilfredo Ledezma 04-21-2008, 09:23 PM Per RotoWorld, An MRI on Placido Polanco's back revealed no major damage, and he could return to the lineup as soon as Tuesday. So hopefully it was just a "cold weather" excuse-type thing. By Wednesday we could have our entire lineup as it was meant to be constructed. Glenn 04-24-2008, 03:05 PM If Jacque is hurt badly enough, it looks like Clete won't be in the minors very long. Tahoe 04-24-2008, 03:06 PM Are we still carrying 13 pitchers? Raburn can fill in the outfield when needed much better than Thomas. Call up a pitcher. MoTown 04-24-2008, 03:06 PM This, of course, happens right when Jacque was starting to hit. Zekyl 04-25-2008, 10:50 AM Yeah, no need to call Clete back up, just let Raburn take his spot platooning with Thames. Give Thames a little more time and use RR to spell him when needed. WTFchris 04-30-2008, 02:18 PM Some is not injury related, but oh well... -- Leyland said that Brandon Inge will play center field in Curtis Granderson's place tonight against left-hander Andy Pettitte, and also that Inge will likely catch Nate Robertson in Thursday's series finale. ... Thursday is the big day for both Fernando Rodney and Joel Zumaya, as both are scheduled for regular bullpen sessions. It will be the first full session for Rodney since his April 16 visit with Dr. James Andrews, and the first for Zumaya since his October shoulder surgery. ... Wilfredo Ledezma 05-02-2008, 05:45 PM ^^^per DetNews those bullpen sessions went very well and Zoom is going to throw again on Saturday Glenn 05-21-2008, 11:38 AM Zoom update anyone? DrRay11 05-21-2008, 02:48 PM I was wondering the same... WTFchris 05-23-2008, 04:25 PM Injured Tigers take big step forward Posted by Scott Warheit (http://blog.mlive.com/cutoffman/about.html) May 23, 2008 06:54AM Vance Wilson, Joel Zumaya, and Fernando Rodney, each of whom have missed the first third of the Detroit Tigers season, will take a big step forward in their rehabilitation when they play in an extended spring training game in Florida according to the Detroit Free Press. May 23, Detroit Free Press: (http://freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080523/SPORTS02/805230394/1048) The three Tigers have not appeared in the majors this season, but this morning's extended spring training game in Kissimmee, Fla., could be a big boost in their attempts to return. How they fare during -- and how they feel after -- today's game will determine the next step in their respective programs. Tigers head athletic trainer Kevin Rand said Wilson has been able to catch and throw, an encouraging sign in his return from reconstructive elbow surgery. The players aren't likely to begin minor-league rehabilitation assignments until team officials are fairly certain that they will return within the allotted 30-day window. Glenn 07-01-2008, 09:12 AM 1B Miguel Cabrera left the game in the third inning Monday night with a left hip flexor strain. Cabrera may have strained the muscle trying to get a throw that clanked off the heel of his glove in the second for an error. He was listed as day-to-day but manager Jim Leyland is typically cautious with leg injuries and may not try to get Cabrera back until Wednesday afternoon. Glenn 07-08-2008, 10:47 AM Dontrelle Willis has knee-injury setback He's pitched just once in minors BY JON PAUL MOROSI • FREE PRESS SPORTS WRITER • July 8, 2008 It has been almost one month since the Tigers sent Dontrelle Willis to Class A Lakeland to work on his control. Willis has appeared in only one game there, against Daytona nine days ago. He allowed one earned run -- on one hit and three walks -- in two innings. It's not known when he will be healthy enough to pitch again. Willis was scheduled to return to Detroit early this week to have his right knee examined, the team said Monday. That is the same knee he hyperextended in April, forcing him onto the disabled list for the first time in his big-league career. The setback reduces the chance Willis will pitch again in the majors this season. Left-hander Willis, 26, has had a turbulent first season with the Tigers, after arriving in a trade with the Florida Marlins and signing a three-year, $29-million contract extension. He is 0-1 with a 10.32 ERA in the big leagues this season. He was sent to Lakeland after allowing eight earned runs in a June 9 start against Cleveland. Fool 07-08-2008, 11:01 AM That's my Tiger. Glenn 08-04-2008, 02:08 PM I wonder if Zumaya will ever be dependable again, healthwise? Zekyl 08-04-2008, 02:11 PM We'll get a good look next season, after he's had a whole summer to rest and not worry about rehabing. Until then I think he'll be in and out of the pen with various sore arm ailments. Jethro34 08-04-2008, 06:08 PM Are you forgetting that he'll have a whole winter to get bored and do something stupid around the house that will cost him 3-4 months? Timone 08-04-2008, 06:22 PM Are you forgetting that he'll have a whole winter to get bored and do something stupid around the house that will cost him 3-4 months? This man has a great point. :cogent: Zekyl 08-04-2008, 06:57 PM Well, he hasn't had a Rockband related injury yet. Its about time he injured an ankle playing the drum part this winter. WTFchris 08-04-2008, 11:39 PM His next injury will be a high ankle sprain doing the Ski jump on Wii Fit. Glenn 08-11-2008, 12:14 PM Good news fellas! Todd Jones is supposed to be back this week! Glenn 08-12-2008, 11:06 AM Detroit OF Marcus Thames is expected to be out for a few days after an MRI showed only inflammation in his right shoulder. Glenn 08-13-2008, 11:30 AM So Guillen is down now, too, eh? WTFchris 08-13-2008, 11:32 AM Leyland said last night that he thinks Joel is hurt again too. He said something is not right with him. Wilfredo Ledezma 08-13-2008, 04:33 PM Joel to the DL, probably done for the season. Francis Beltran purchased from AAA. Glenn 08-13-2008, 09:13 PM Tigers' Zumaya: 'I felt like my arm exploded' Lynn Henning / The Detroit News DETROIT -- Wednesday's news was both disturbing and encouraging for Joel Zumaya and the Tigers as the 24-year-old reliever was placed on the 15-day disabled list after tearing scar tissue in his right (throwing) shoulder during Tuesday night's game at Comerica Park. "Great news," said Tigers manager Jim Leyland. "No problem with the rotator cuff, or elbow, or shoulder. "That's a great relief for Joel." Zumaya had not been as encouraged when he left Tuesday's game, a 6-4 loss to the Blue Jays, after he faced five batters and all five reached base. "I felt like my arm exploded," Zumaya said of the fastball he threw for his final pitch before being removed by Leyland. "I blew a big chunk of it (scar tissue). "I thought my career was over. I was trying to be a hero. I could have ended my career." In words that echoed another recovering player, Gary Sheffield, who spoke Wednesday of his in-and-out pain and setbacks in 2008, Zumaya said he had not felt right since a pitch he threw that was hit for a home run in Baltimore on July 19. Zumaya, though, said he believed he should pitch through the discomfort in a bid to help his team get back into contention. When he left the mound Tuesday night, Zumaya was booed by Comerica Park's fans. "I think it's pretty lame," Zumaya said. "I give it everything I've got." Glenn 08-13-2008, 09:14 PM Francis Beltran purchased from AAA. [smilie=Francis] Tahoe 08-13-2008, 10:12 PM Shefs brain is injured DrRay11 08-13-2008, 10:32 PM The Tigers' vaginas are injured Jethro34 08-17-2008, 10:50 AM Todd back to the DL. Gary Glover called up. I think, and hope, Todd never throws another pitch in Detroit. Wilfredo Ledezma 08-17-2008, 01:55 PM Ditto. What a way to go out. |
