some of you are prolly closer to my boys age then me, but he wants to go to 3 proms this year.

His girl friend moved to Reno last year and she invited him up for that one, he just got an invite to the Junior prom, and his Senior prom.

They run a few hundred a prom. This could get expensive

Thoughts...

Yea, it could be really expensive night if you think about it.

Is it me, or did Tahoe just successfully post a poll?

I didn't even see the money question. I got busy remembering getting bizzy at prom. If he's got chicks that aren't his girlfriend asking him to go with them, have them pay for those proms.

I'd have him pay for the one he wants to go to (his prom) and the other chicks pay for the other two. As a parent I wouldn't be paying for jack. I'm assuming the senior has a job.

As the parent I think you are obligated to pay for one, a local one. I picked 'pay half' because it was closest to what I think. With the other two those should be more or less out of his pocket. Also you could scale back the one you're paying for and help him with the other two.

I'd probably offer to pay for one of them (tux rental, corsage and dinner for the two of them) and if he wants to go to the others, he'd have to pay for those.

This assumes that his grades are satisfactory and there aren't other discipline/attitude/responsibility problems that you are dealing with.

This being my answer, I can't really vote in your poll.

So you're saying the poll is kind of effed up? That would not be a first.

I like the scaling back advice. They do so much for these proms these days.

Foo, No he doesn't have a job. Shakes head. His AP classes take all night for homework. Its really incredible. He does have a lil lighter load this semester. I pay him too much when he helps me with construction.

LOL I saw that one coming from Uxs post.

We bought him a tux last year. He's 6'2" but weighs like 22 pounds or something. So no tux rental, but get this prom tix are 65 bucks, the limo gets a lil spendy when they're just sitting there eating or at the dance.

I don't know, I'm happy for him on one hand and don't want to come across like a dick, but 3 proms out of my pocket stretches my goodwill.

Kid doesn't have a job as a senior. His life is cake. Tell him to find cheaper lays and skip the prom bullshit.

(If I can do that with my kids, the no job thing, they won't either. Props to you Tahoe.)

Ah shit(that makes me feel bad)...if you can get a HS girl to ask you, I'll chip in.

Don't feel bad, I didn't go because I didn't want to.

Thanks foo. If he took sluffy classes and got bad grades, I guarantee he would be working.

Even still, these kids are growing up so much different these days than the life I had. Not complaining, just the truth.

Tahoe Jr must be huge with the ladies. Like father, like son.

He's been a pretty quiet kid. Last year, his junior year, he busted out a lil.

I was never able to outgrow that.

I went to three proms. My parents paid for one of them, I had to pay for everything else.

Have you thought in terms of buying a tux rather than renting?

I paid for everything for my Senior Prom, except her dress.

And I kept on paying after the stupid bitch wouldn't put out.
