lol. not even a trade? come the fuck on...

Not that he'd be worth a lot given his injuries, but still...

So we sign the guy that we benched, and we cut the guy we played.

DrRay11
03-13-2008, 05:30 PM
Well, one thing's sure here. We will be different next year. Probably worse, but different. I would like to see Roy traded for some more defense & picks next... May as well cuz he'll leave anywho

Glenn

You know, that Shaun Alexander thing may actually come to pass.

Not that that would be a good thing...

Odd on Millen drafting more skilled players?

So we cut a guy with an expiring rookie deal? This has to be the dumbest move yet by Millen. Well, that settles it, Denver is my new #1 team.

I'm sure we could have gotten something for him. I guess we'll see if anyone picks him up.

When do the Detroit Fury start back up?

lol

first thing that came to my mind.

i predicted that millen will get fired after next season, im getting ready to guarantee it.

we are on the presepice of the end of an unbelievable era in lion football.

im not saying its going to get better, but it will be different. i cant imigine it being as nearly as comical, though.

Hmmmm this would make us enemies, Luckily Dungver is pissing themselves into dumb moves. Last year traded their best run defender to a division rival(proceeded to get run on all day after that), then let Javon Walker walk for nothing much like the lions have kevin jones, signed Travis Henry to a contract he may never see with all the babies and weed in his life, and now have alot less help for their wannabe favre pass forcing young qb. maybe you should hope on the pats.

Yeah, with this move it really surprises me that Millen isn't willing to consider deals for Roy.
To be honest, Kalimba has been an expected cut for some time and this is overdue. For KJ, I had zero expectations from him because I just don't ever believe he'll stay healthy - and when he was he was never used properly and so I'm just not sure what he is capable of anymore. Still a little surprised though.

The wheel of interesting continues to turn.

werent we already told that they (jones / roy) would be gone after next season?

the problem with nfl trades is they never make any sense. i'll make one guess regarding the roy situation, though: millen will do whatever gets us the least in return but also is the most damaging to our cap.

whats amusing about the kevin jones cutting is that he was one of the few reasons to ever get optimistic with the lions. 'well atleast this guy plays ok, sometimes'. and we cut him.

He played ok when he wasn't injured. We were planning on running the ball more this year. What's the harm in keeping him around for training camp and seeing where he's at? He's on a rookie contract, it doesn't eat up much cap space. I just think this is a bad move unless they know his injury isn't healed and he wouldn't be able to play this year or something along those lines.

Odds on him going to another team and being a solid back this season?

Glenn
03-14-2008, 08:41 AM
Apparently yesterday was KJ's birthday, too.

What a great gift the Lions gave him.

Seriously, being able to go play for someone else besides the Lions is a pretty nice gift.

Never was a fan of Kevin. At times he showed me something, but most of the time he never impressed me. I'm willing to give it another shot though, because he was playing in Detroit after all.

I don't give a shit about the Lions enough to know who the fuck Kalimba Edwards is.

What bullshit....

My son is the biggest KJ fan ever and just got his black jersey to finish his collection. He was pretty bumed yesterday when I told him.

And it sucks too because Turner and Julius already signed with other teams.

Hey, I suppose that we can all hope that Millen will now re-sign KJ to a new contract.

With a hefty pay raise, of course.

I'm going to laugh when KJ goes to a team that actually builds an OL properly and gets 1500 yards. I understand cutting him if you are going to spend that 2.5 million somewhere else, but we won't. We'll just pad Ford's pockets a little more.

I hope Denver, NYJ, the Steelers or some other team that focuses on their OL picks him up.

WTFchris

And stupid Millen should not have matched the Kalimba deal and let him walk to the Browns long ago.

I really wouldn't be surprised to see him end up with the Jets - if they wanted him. If I'm Jones, I go to the Eagles, Jets, Giants, Ravens or Redskins. They're all relatively close to where he grew up. They all have lines that are better than Detroit as well (see 31 teams in the NFL).

WTFchris
03-14-2008, 06:56 PM
Jets would be my pick. Great OL, plus Thomas Jones is not really a feature back. It would also allow them to pass on McFadden and draft a stud DL, or trade out of that slot to someone in big need of a RB.

Yeah, no shit! Kinda suprised we didn't get Dunn or Rice...and I'll definately renounce my Lion-esk if they sign fuck-fuck Simms!

Jethro34
03-14-2008, 09:27 PM
Surprisingly Dunn went back to the Bucs. I'm not sure how much time he and Rod spent together prior to Dunn's Falcon days.
The remaining TB FA's that would have worked with Marinelli or Barry are Pittman and center John Wade (wouldn't mind him if he could play G). RFA DE Jovan Haye would be a fair replacement for Kalimba. Last year was his 3rd in the league but his first with any kind of PT. He was ok.

Why didn't they release KJ BEFORE Julius Jones, Michael Turner, etc. signed elsewhere...?

Glenn

Why

It's the Lions, you could have stopped your sentence right there.

Glenn

Btw, I don't see the Jets as a good fit at all.

If I'm them, I'm content with Thomas Jones and Leon Washington.

No need to tie up cap dollars on a guy no better than your 2 other RBs that just keeps getting hurt.

I agree, plus they signed Jesse Chatman and Tony Richardson to be the FB, so I would be surprised if the Jets signed him...

I think a team that KJ would be a nice fit is Dallas, he's not a power runner like Marion Barber is, and could do well being a 3rd down/goal line back there.

Regardless, I don't think he'll contribute much this season b/c I'm guessing he will start out on the PUP list. But I think he's got plenty left in the tank to come back and be a solid player.

Glenn
03-15-2008, 02:07 PM
I forgot about the Chatman signing.

It makes even less sense now for the Jets.

Unless they are still planning on just signing everyone that they can.

Thomas Jones is a stud running back and now that they're building an O-line and added a FB 1500 yards isn't out of the picture.

That's crazy talk. Maybe 4 years ago. 1500's a lot of yards.

At least the Raiders are getting these guys cheap from us, we're spending day 1 draft picks on them.

They saw the field and made very ocasional plays, so they came up far better than what we gave up for them. Or have you forgotten the great Shutdown corner AJ Davis and his many contributions to the lions organization? [smilie=heatsmiley2:

Also we do our deals right even when we overpay. Kalimba gets 1million this year and 4 million next year if we keep him. not too many strings attached so i'm not bitching at all.

Matt Millen was a Raider, so its only right that we spend next to nothing on what you guys went hard for. :)
