View Full Version : Is it time to bench Dice?
Cross 03-10-2008, 05:21 AM Maybe he's taking in too many minutes as the season progresses but in 5 March games, he's shooting 6-31, totaling 17 points in 5 games. Can't forget that he has 21 fouls as well.
What's Dice averaging this month?
3.4 points
5.2 rebounds
0.4 assists
0.8 steals
0.2 blocks
4.2 fouls
If we put in Max or Amir, I bet you we could get more than that in 26 minutes of production, because that's what he's averagine minutes wise in his last 5 games.
Dice has only scored in double figures 4 times all of February and hasn't scored over 5 all of March. Are his knees slowing him down? His rebounding is big for us, but we don't need Dice getting 25 minutes a game. I say we switch the roles of Dice with either Max or Amir until playoff time

Higherwarrior 03-10-2008, 07:38 AM i think we at least need to cut back his minutes. he looks like his legs are dead out there. he's not just missing shots, he's drawing front iron on almost all of them. that tells me he doesn't have the same lift in his shot as they're almost all short.
he needs about a week off. since that won't happen, i think we should cut back his minutes a good bit and let the kids play more, mainly amir. theo can help too but not really as an offensive threat.
amir and j-max can at least get more energy buckets on putbacks, etc.
Zekyl 03-10-2008, 07:48 AM He looked pretty terrible in the first half of the game last night. Something is definitely off with him.
Hermy 03-10-2008, 07:58 AM He never should have been made to start to begin with. He's a 25mpg guy.
Glenn 03-10-2008, 09:05 AM If he's not going to score, at least we can hide him with the rest of the starters.
If he sucks it up coming off the bench, there really is no benefit in playing him at all.
I'd keep starting him, but get him out quick if it looks like his shot isn't there.
Zekyl 03-10-2008, 09:41 AM he may be a 20-25mpg guy but that doesn't mean he shouldn't be a starter. The number of minutes you play isn't dictated by starting or not starting. He can start and just be pulled sooner for one of the younger guys. Just look at Manu and the Spurs. He doesn't start but he plays "starter" minutes.

But it has been. Our rotations are set, and if you start you get 30 minutes. That will not change here, so let's not get funny and pretend there are other options.

Uncle Mxy 03-11-2008, 10:10 PM It's time for Joe Dumars to have a talk with McDyess -- nothing more or less.

I agree with this. On the bright side, if he is hitting front iron, at least his aim isn't off ^_^
umichjenks 03-12-2008, 10:06 AM Tonight is a perfect example of a game that does not matter to us. We have a 10 game lead on the Magic.
Start Amir tonight and depending on future matchups before the playoffs Flip can start Theo if the other team has a dominant big man.
Why not start Amir with Theo tonight? We have nothing to lose. It will give Amir a bunch of confidence and let Dyess get some needed rest. Dyess looks tired right now and this is the perfect time to showcase your young talent before the playoffs and put them in playoff type games.
Philly is in the 7th seed now and fighting to stay there, play the youngsters as much as possible and let them get a feel for the the type of atmosphere that will come in the playoffs.
DrRay11 03-12-2008, 10:09 AM If we start Amir, I have a feeling he'll be out with 2 fouls within 3 minutes or less.
MoTown 03-12-2008, 10:48 AM Probably, but he has to learn control some time. Why not start that now?
Zekyl 03-12-2008, 01:12 PM It seems like a good idea, but I'd be worried about how yanking McDyess from the starting lineup would hurt his confidence. Maybe start him but pull him early and give the young guys a ton of minutes, making sure you let him know beforehand that this is just giving the youngsters some run and not anything against him.
Black Dynamite 03-12-2008, 03:17 PM It seems like a good idea, but I'd be worried about how yanking McDyess from the starting lineup would hurt his confidence.
Which would be ironic as fuck since we had to force him against his will to start last year. I think he shouls see the bench, but unfortunately i think it screws up the rotation. Mainly because it means Flip has to use more brain power to figure out how to disperse time between Amir, Maxiell, and Dyess. This would be simpler if Maxiell woulda ever improved his dribble and his weight enough to play part time SF like corliss.
No. Just play him 20mpg. If Flip is incapable of only playing a starter 20mpg, then I guess benching him is the only way to go.
Zekyl 03-13-2008, 08:48 AM Drop the IF FP22, Flip IS incapable. He couldn't manage a rotation to save his life. Unfortunately, he doesn't have to manage a rotation to save his job.
Black Dynamite 03-13-2008, 09:00 AM I do think its sad that you almost have to take away players to force him into playing the right guys.
Zekyl 03-13-2008, 09:01 AM That's the sign of a bad coach. He could have some of the best philosophies or plays in the league (which he doesn't, but bear with me here), but if you couldn't manage the rotation you would still be a mediocre coach at best. Flip can't manage the rotation and he has proven it repeatedly. Its Finals or bust this year, if we don't make it he needs to be replaced.
Black Dynamite 03-13-2008, 09:08 AM I'm not gonna complete bash him until i see the playoff rotation. his Regular season rotations are average at best(which is good enough and better than last year). But his playoff rotations for his career have been overly short and very horrific. Thats where i hope to see improvement.
