Jonathan Vilma is in Detroit Wednesday to take a physical.
Vilma, the No. 12 overall pick in 2004, is recovering from reconstructive knee surgery, which he underwent in November. He has experience in a Tampa 2 defense like Detroit's, having played for Herm Edwards 2004-2005. If he's cleared physically, a trade could be announced on Friday.
Wilfredo Ledezma 02-27-2008, 04:45 PM IMO, Dwight is a better player than Kenoy Kennedy, but I'd much rather see Gerald Alexander & Bullocks get most of the time, b/c I think they can be a decent safety tandem...
Wilfredo Ledezma 02-27-2008, 04:45 PM as for Vilma, thank god, I can't take Paris Lenon starting anymore...finally a guy who can rake on tackles...
Glenn 02-27-2008, 04:56 PM Is Vilma related to Valter?

I don't know who Valter is, but yes.

WTFchris 02-27-2008, 05:29 PM I sure hope Vilma comes here. I heard they are also looking at the CB from Tampa (Kelly). If we could add Vilma, Kelly, a 1st round CB and a 2nd round LB to this team our defense would be a LOT better.
Wilfredo Ledezma 02-27-2008, 08:39 PM Listen, diminishing returns or not, I don't care about Vilmas injury last year, just bring him in. I don't care if we only get 2 years out of him, we need a MLB badly...
at this point, even Glenn is a better option than Paris Lenon...
Tahoe 02-27-2008, 08:45 PM Lenon is garbage.
DrRay11 02-27-2008, 08:52 PM If he just fell on the ball, we could have salvaged .500. I will never forgive him for that bonehead play...

That's Paris Lenon's legacy...for not falling on the fumble Vs. Dallas, nobody remembers that he took an INT back for 6 Vs. KC 2 weeks later. Nope!
WTFchris 02-28-2008, 11:02 AM Not sure what to make of this:
As for Vilma, the major issue appears to be his right knee. While the Jets have refused to disclose the full extent of the injury that sidelined Vilma for the final nine games last year, the New York Daily News reported that, in high school, Vilma was diagnosed with osteochondritis dissecans (OCD), a bone defect that can cause instability and loose particles in the joint.
The Jets are in the Rogers talks now. I'd be happy with an even swap if Vilma is going to get over the knee issue.
Zekyl 02-28-2008, 01:37 PM With the knee issue, would it be Rogers for Vilma and a pick? Maybe even Rogers and a 5th for Vilma and a 3rd?
Glenn 02-28-2008, 01:39 PM It's funny how they think they can trade him without disclosing his injury.

Well, the Lions want a 2nd or 3rd for Rogers. I havent seen what NY wants for Vilma.
WTFchris 02-28-2008, 05:44 PM Report: Lions in talks with Jaguars to trade Shaun Rogers for Marcus Stroud
by MLive.com staff Thursday February 28, 2008, 3:47 PM
According to an unnamed league source, the Jacksonville Jaguars are the latest team to enter into trade discussions with the Detroit Lions. Jacksonville is reportedly offering to swap defensive tackles, offering three-time Pro Bowler Marcus Stroud in exchange for Shaun Rogers.
February 28, Jacksonville Times-Union: (http://news.jacksonville.com/justin/2008/02/28/the-jaguars-have-given-three-time-pro-bowler-marcus-stroud-permission-to-seek-a-trade/) To replace Stroud, the club is in discussions with Detroit to make a trade for defensive tackle Shaun Rogers, according to a league source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because such moves can't officially be transacted until today - the start of the league's new year. Coming off microfracture surgery on his right ankle in 2006, Stroud played in nine games last season and posted 35 tackles, three sacks and recovered a fumble before he was placed on injured reserve on Dec. 12.
Wilfredo Ledezma 02-28-2008, 10:46 PM Vilma's going to the Saints...for a Third Round Pick...So for basically what we used on ikaika alama-francis last year, could've landed us an all-pro stud MLB...now we're back to Paris Lenon
DrRay11 02-28-2008, 11:11 PM Cot damnit, fuck Paris Lenon.
WTFchris 02-29-2008, 10:15 AM If Millen doens't take Lofton or Mayo in the 2nd round to fill our MLB hole then he should be fired immediately.
This is my ideal draft for the Lions:
1st - Cromartie (CB)
2nd - Lofton (MLB)
3rd - Adibi (OLB)
4th - Kellar (TE)
5th - ? (OG)
Timone 02-29-2008, 10:19 AM Leodis McKelvin is apparently the guy the Lions are projected to draft right now.

The nice thing about him is he could become our new return man as well.
